Universal Biography and Autobiography: for a model of analysis of the rituals of
production and consumption in multimedia art regards the study and analysis of alternative
forms of questioning how we create our collective cultural memory through
objects and rituals.
The field of investigation here shown stands apart from areas of History or Art criticism.
The approach to rituals is made from the Socio-cultural view point, aspiring to
recognize a model of cultural profusion.
Foremost, the role of memory in the construction of cultural content is here analyzed.
With that intent, the validity between external devices, such as hermeneutics and
rituals, is discussed on that construction. Approaching broad themes such as Memory,
Culture, Language, dichotomies between Hermeneutics and Rituals, Text and Image are
established to understand an evolution from traditional rituals to contemporary ones in
artistic activity.
It is questioned and suggested that contemporary rituals, with their potential of being
performative manifestations that centre on the individual, constitute a privileged format
for a transverse language, independent of religion, nationality or group.
Being the investigation developed in the scope of the Master in Multimedia Art, an
analysis of artistic proposals was followed, that discusses the breadth of the multimedia
and performance concepts. The presence of the sub-heading For a model of analysis
of the rituals of production and consumption in multimedia art , represents a framing
of the dynamic which is present on contemporary rituals in biographical and autobiographical
artistic work.
Pondering about the model of interpretation and analyses is made in the presence of
the body of work of the artist: Tracey Emin, Mona Hatoum and Morgan O Hara, seeking
to inquest if their work can be characterized as a memory agent.

Vaterschaft, christliche Erziehung und Rituale : ein gemeindepädagogischer Beitrag zur Reflexion und Förderung christlicher Vaterschaft / Paternity, christian education and rituals : a contribution to the reflection and promotion of christian paternity through church educationGroezinger, Stefan Alexander 30 November 2005 (has links)
The father represents an important figure in society. Together with the mother he is the most important socialization-agent of early childhood. He is involved in the act of procreation and finally becomes father at the time his wife gives birth to their child. However, a social role "paternity" develops only through the fact that he fulfills certain tasks which are connected with the child. The dissertation approaches the extremely multilayered and complex subject "father" as follows: the cooperation between father and child is understood as interaction. The father´s role as model for the child is described. "Christian education" and "rituals" with regard to the topic "father" are the two other dimensions of this dissertation. An empirical survey of fathers about these topics by means of a questionnaire supplements the theoretical perspective.
This Master-Dissertation would like to deal with the three mentioned areas, and - as
practical-theological thesis - contribute to the reflection and promotion of Christian
paternity. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M.Th. (Practical theology)

Die sosiale konstruksie van geloofsontwikkeling by `n groep katkisante / The social construction of faith development with a group of young peopleNaude, Christo 03 1900 (has links)
Despite the fact that most youth from the Dutch Reformed Church are of school going age during their final year of catechism, insufficient attention is given to the life stories of these young people.
My research project on faith development with a group of young people involved in catechism was shaped by a pastoral theological perspective and a social constructionist discourse.
Over a period of a year a process of qualitative research was conducted with a group of twenty-nine young conformants. The aim was to encourage faith development by given attention to their faith stories with the intention for them to write their own confessions of faith. Afterwards the process was reflected on. The study was guided by three themes.
The context in which the study was conducted, consisted of the congregation, society at large, paradigms and relationships in which the process took place.
The context of the catechism was conducted is a participatory manner.
The third theme was the group of twenty-nine young people that participated in their final year of catechism in which the context of participatory pastoral catechism was focused on.
The approach that was followed, was create space within the congregation for catechism to be conducted in a participatory manner with the twenty-nine young participants. In this way participation which is the main focus of this study is accentuated. The attention to the life stories of these young people makes the narrative discourse relevant to the study.
Catechism according to this study has a participatory character that is supported by the following approaches.
The practice of catechism shifts to a pastoral approach.
The content of the catechism shifts to relationships.
The content of the catechism becomes socially constructed. / Practial Theology / D. Th. (Pastoral Therapy)

The traditional Ba Venda concept of the after-life vis-à-vis, the Bavenda christian understanding of eternal lifeDube, Stephen Maqethuka 30 November 2002 (has links)
This dissertation explores the traditional Ba Venda concept of the after-life vis-a-vis the Ba Venda Christian understanding of eternal life. In this dissertation a historical background of the traditional Ba Venda and how there were reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ will be given. A comparative study of the traditional Ba Venda and Christian Ba Venda beliefs and practices is given. It will be noted that the Ba Venda Christians of BeitBridge district revert to traditional beliefs and practices concerning the dead. These rituals carried out by the Ba Venda Christians show the syncretistic elements practiced. A central question therefore is "Are the Ba Venda Christians operating on the basis of Christian concept of death and hereafter?" It is argued in this dissertation that the Ba Venda Christian concept of death and after life is the blending of Ba Venda Christian and Ba Venda traditional beliefs and practices, particularly when it comes to death and burial practices. / Religious studies / M.A.(Religious)

Shattered dreams : pastoral care with parents following the death of a childBiermann, Hugo Hendrik 30 November 2005 (has links)
This qualitative study focuses on the stories of a bereaved couple living with the death of two of their children. The effect of the children's death on the parents is explored, as well as the way in which the parents live with the death of their two sons. The stories of the bereaved couple show their courage and resilience in continuing with their lives, maintaining their bond with their deceased sons and trying to make meaning of their death.
As a study in practical theology and pastoral care one aim of this study was to help transform the lives of the parents for the better.
In one of the chapters of the research report a study of some literature on bereavement and the death of children is presented. Dominant cultural discourses about death, bereavement, grief and mourning are discussed, as well as voices protesting against these discourses. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M.Th. Investigating the prevalence of Satanism in Zambia with particular reference to the Kabwe districtKayuni, Hachintu Joseph 04 1900 (has links)
This study examined the alleged prevalence of Satanism in Zambia, with a particular reference to the Kabwe District during the period 2010-2013. The overall objective was to ascertain the claims and speculations on the alleged prevalence of Satanism in the district of Kabwe.
The claims about the alleged prevalence of Satanism and the satanic scare were found by this study to be a reality in Kabwe, with eighty-eight per cent (88%) of the respondents acknowledging the alleged prevalence of the phenomenon. People’s knowledge of Satanism was mainly through rumours, messages from Churches and the electronic media. Studies on rumours (by Stephen Ellis, Gerrie Ter Haar and Jeffrey Victor) have shown that rumours can be investigated in the search for facts, especially rumours that offer plausible explanations for people’s shared anxieties. The above mentioned scholars argue that with efforts at corroboration, such as by interviewing key informants, the researcher can seek credibility on prevailing rumours by verifying or dismissing mere rumours from true stories.
The assertions from scholars above justified the use of rumours as a methodological tool in this study. From sources of information the study relied on, claims about the alleged prevalence of Satanism in the district were investigated. The study refuted the satanic claims in a number of cases that were analysed, because they were mostly based on ‘pious legends’ hence lacked objective evidence. From the few incidents that suggested the prevalence of Satanism, there were still two basic problems faced in assessing their credibility: the first being the difficulty in determining the reliability of the confessions from informants who in this case either claimed they were ex-Satanists or served on behalf of Satanists. The second problem consisted in what seemed to be the inconsistency in the explanations of motives behind human killings found in the ritual murders. Some explanations did not suggest satanic motives.
One example of refuted claims concerned the two locations within Kabwe district which were highly rumoured to be sites for Satanists, which were found by this study to be Freemasonry Lodges, contrary to what was rumoured. From the findings of this study, it was believed that people joined Satanism either because of the greedy for riches or to avoid poverty. It was also believed that other peoples joined Satanism unconsciously through luring methods used by Satanists.
The study also found the satanic scare to have effects on the lives of people in the district. For example, it caused some people to become more committed Christians in their defence against the alleged satanic forces. Because people had associated riches to Satanism, certain individuals avoided getting rich for fear of being labelled ‘Satanists’. / Religious Studies and Arabic / D. Litt. et Phil. A psycho-educational perspective of parental bereavement in African adolescentsMabotja, Zolelwa Thobela 02 1900 (has links)
The study focuses on the emotional experiences of parental bereavement of African adolescents who live in a rural environment. Findings revealed that the loss of a parent is very devastating for African adolescents. The adolescents received inadequate assistance from family, peers, community members or educators. It is essential after this study to uncover ways in which these adolescents could be assisted to cope with the loss of a parent who had been providing love, care, financial and material support, as well as safety and security.
To gather data the researcher drew meaning from eight participants’ lived experiences from transcriptions of interviews with the participants. The participants, seven girls and one boy, were adolescents between the ages of twelve and fifteen years, who had lost their fathers.
This study recommended that educators be equipped to take a major role in dealing with children in bereavement, since there are no educational psychologists or other professionals based in the school or neighbourhood. The community needs to be made aware of the plight of bereaved adolescents and should be introduced into giving positive and constructive assistance to these young people. / Psychology of Education / M. Les interactions verbales en France et en Grande-Bretagne : étude comparative de quatre petits commerces français et britanniques / Verbal interaction in France and Great Britain : a comparative study of four French and British independent shopsGagne, Christophe 07 July 2014 (has links)
This thesis, which is of a contrastive and intercultural nature, is informed by the idea that it is by observing the behaviour of interactants in everyday interactions that the relationship between cultures can best be approached, and the specificity of the forms of behaviour encountered explored. Through the careful and detailed analysis of recordings taken in four different shops (French and British), the study aims to understand the linguistic behaviour of the participants by linking it to various contextual elements (micro-contextual elements: discursive material that surrounds the utterances analysed; situational elements: site layout, number of participants, interaction’s finality; macro-contextual ones: status of service encounters and of the types of shops selected, cultural values that underpin explored behaviour). The purpose of the study (which analyses opening and closing rituals; thanking; the way directive speech acts such as questions, offers and requests are performed; conversational sequences) is to provide a better understanding of the communicative styles that can be associated with French and British cultures.

Hrdinové tichého vzdoru: poetika pasivity v moderní literatuře / Heroes of Silent Resistance: The Poetics of Passivity in Modern LiteratureKoudelková Jesenská, Lucie January 2018 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the phenomenon of passivity in literature, particularly with how it manifests itself through actions, stagnation and means of existence of chosen literary characters and subjects. It concentrates on such figures that are inactive or apathetic, whose actions lack the clearly articulated meaning and purpose and it often seems that they vegetate rather than live an active life. The main theme is the relationship between passivity and activity and turning the passivity into a creative principle. The thesis applies the performative theory on the literary text and sees passivity of the literary characters or subjects as a means of their art performance which offers new interpretations of examining texts and the passivity in general. Methodologically the thesis is based especially on the performative theory of Erika Fischer-Lichte, but also on the anthropological research of transition rituals, theoretical concepts of mediality, John Austin's speech-act theory or on selected philosophical thesis of Maurice Merleau-Ponty and post-structuralist philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and Jacques Derrida. As primary texts for the analysis serve the short story The Overcoat (Шинель, 1842) by Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol, the novella Bartleby, the Scrivener (1853) by Herman Melville, The Book...
