Overcoming the view of the laicity as an abstention when affirming that the religious, on its own definition, doesn't concern us nor even the science, and admitting a laicity of intelligence when we defend that is our duty or even the duty of science to understand it as a human and social expression, the teaching of the religious phenomenon can overcome these two views with the use of a strong epistemological basis for this area of knowledge, as fixed in our Constitution. It guarantees the respect to the diversity and the cultural plurality of the brazilian society and it contributes to the comprehension of the religious phenomenon as a "cultural object". It is capable of support practices of a teaching of the religious phenomenon in a secular education system, without prejudicing its laicity - on the contrary, it can actually go on its behalf. The secular education focusing on the formation of a citizen cannot ignore the existance of religions for its strong presence and for its role in a society. It is needed to critically decrypt the religions representations and its practices in name of a more constructive cohabitation between people and extract values from the religious traditions that can contribute with the human life on its plenitude. This model of teaching the religion as an anthropological, social and cultural phenomenon can even perform a specific role on what concerns the knowledge of oneself (identity) and also on what regards the acceptation of the different (alterity), pointing to the construction of ethic values and the notion of being a citizen. This research is based on a great bibliographic raising data and interviews with specialists on secularization, laicity and on religious teaching, all based on Régis Debray's proposal adopted in France. It leads us to conclude that the teaching of the religious phenomenon in Brazil's public schools is not only necessary, but indispensable if we want an education that contributes to the formation of our students in a solidary living.

São Paulo, one of the largest metropolis in the world has a plural cultural background, not only for the active forces of modernism, secularism, globalization and post-modernism. The composition of the city's population has a plural ethnic genesis. Besides the indigenous native, white European colonists and African slaves’ matrix, since the early nineteenth century others immigrants, Europeans and Asians, have arrived. In the first decades of the twentieth century, Brazil was the country that received more immigrants in the world. It is estimated that in the 1920s, only a third of the total population in the city of São Paulo were Brazilians, the rest was composed of immigrants. The insertion of Adventism in São Paulo took place by foreigners’ missionaries who worked first with other immigrants before evangelize and develop the Adventist mission with local Brazilians. Somehow, those early events have made a mark in São Paulo’s Adventist mission. São Paulo is now the city with the highest total number of Adventists in the world and the only one with ethnic Adventist churches for five distinct ethnic groups: Japanese, Korean, Jewish, Arab and Bolivian / Peruvian. This research looks for the formation of a cultural sensibility in the São Paulo’s Adventism that allowed it to get acquainted with the cultural diversity of the metropolis.

Pastoral care, or persuasion? The influence of church leaders and their control of clergy and believers. Research of religiosity, communication strategies of priests and their image in letters in the late 19th and early 20th century. Tomáš W. Pavlíček SUMMARY The author of the Ph.D. thesis examines the religious culture in Bohemia in the late 19th century. Contrary to the concept of secularization and the prevalent opinion about an extraordinary decline of religiosity in the Czech society, he attempts to explain the interdependence of social and religious changes in the modern times. Within the sociological concept of secularization and disenchantment of the world, the author focuses on three phenomena: the vocation of a priest, religious practices and conversion, which he treats as religious concepts and at the same time applies them in historical research. The biggest part of the thesis is devoted to the first object of the research - the attitude of a priest towards his vocation, as the clergy is the agent of religious change. The thesis contributes to the current discussions about the relationship of the church and the state and the role of clergy in the society. The main questions are: What is the role of a priest in the religious changes? In what way or under what circumstances does a person get the...

Postoj současné české společnosti k otázce Desatera / Attitude of the Current Czech Society towards the Issue of the Decalogue

CHOCOVÁ, Blanka January 2009 (has links)
The thesis looks into the relationship of the current Czech society towards the issue of the Decalogue. The first two chapters deal with the theological-anthropological reflection on man in relation to human freedom and corresponding norms. The third part enquires into the problems of the Decalogue as a codex of ethical norms with regard to the biblical rootage, and ethical and catechistic features. Further, the work outlines the level of value orientation and religiousness of the current Czech society with reference to the European context. Following the findings and results of a research carried out at a public secondary school in České Budějovice, the fifth part reflects the position of the Decalogue in the society

The research draws on part of the debate about secularization to show how its authors do not use the legal practice in their diagnosis and how their conclusions are hampered by this obliviousness. It argues three major points against those authors. First, it will show that there is a legal reason why religions might have public influence nowadays. Second, it puts evidence to how the law also constitutes different forms of experimenting faith and different relations between religion and social life. Third, it sheds light on how the legal practice constitutes and regulates social conflicts in a unique way, without which those conflicts would become incomprehensible. These points allow for the occurrence of secularization in a specific sense, that is, the independence of law from a religious institutional environment. The dissertation thus goes back to the debate on secularization to show how each specific author needs to have its conclusions limited by the findings of the research. It is not the purpose to argue that they use the concept of secularization in a wrong way, but to show that their diagnosis do not have neither the reach nor the strength they intend to, for they do not analyze the conception of secularization that has to do with law. For some authors the research will impose significant limits; as for others, it will be able to complement their arguments by including new facts brought by the internal legal point of view.

Os caminhos da libertação : valores presentes na luta pela terra / The paths of liberation : values in the struggle for land

This work deals with two big debates. The first concerns on the reality of rural settlements of agrarian reform in Brazil linked to the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST), which attract different interpretation and controversy. A key question concerns to the democratic processes of decision making in this settlements, involving the relationship between his basis and leaderships. The second concerns on the debate around the theme of the secularization process advance or goes back, point out the case of Brazilian society. The union of the these two controversies arose in the studies I have been doing in the settlements of the city of SumaréSP, mainly in the socalled Settlement II. During the research it was found the relationships between religious values and the values involved even in the organization of the fight for the land conquest and in the strategies for survival within the settlements. In the analysis of such values approximation I use the theoretical and analytical perspectives of rural sociology and of the religion sociology, taking two basic questions as the starting point: Is there democracy in the formation process of agrarian reform settlements and in their posterior organization? Is there an irrevocable ongoing process of secularization in Brazilian society? The isolate answers to these questions have been put in extremes inside the debates. It is my intend here, from a Weberian perspective fundamentally, to propose a new response, through the unification of these two themes / Doutorado / Doutor em Sociologia

Sob o signo da cruz: Igreja, Estado e secularização (Campinas e Limeira 1774-1939) / Under the sign of the cross: Church, State and secularization (Campinas and Limeira 1774-1939)

Mateus Rosada 25 March 2010 (has links)
It deals with the relation between the Catholic Church and its consequences in the form and the dynamics of two cities in São Paulo State (Brazil): Campinas and Limeira. It tries to understand how the game of forces between these powers was and how this has moved throughout the time. For this, it analyzes a historical clipping between 1774 and 1939, enclosing the three political periods of Brazil: Colony, Empire and Republic, to have and overlook about the questions that involve the slow process of secularization in the country. It approaches the advance of the Enlightenment ideas and the urban lines of direction in the end of XVIII century and its consequences in the urban drawing of the cities that would appear. It investigates the model that granted lands for the Church to initiate a new population and how this land was being expropriated for the civil power. It analyzes, still, how new hygienic thoughts, the new technologies and the secularization way of thinking development of the individual had been increasing the apparatus of urban and profane equipment and diminishing the symbolic importance of the Catholic Church in the city space.

Pejnemo Åström, Marcus January 2017 (has links)
The study delves into reasons and arguments why Kristofferskolan, the first Waldorf school in Sweden, was able to get financial aid from the government in a time when it was unthinkable to support private schools in Sweden. From the 1950s until the 1990s publicly controlled schools were the norm in the Swedish school system and private schools were systematically dismantled. The government of this time motivated the objective of centralization with it being a democratization process to achieve equality. The public-school system was transformed during the 1950s and this transformation needed inspiration. Ironically this was found in private schools such as Kristofferskolan since it had a unique pedagogy, waldorf pedagogy. The study draws the conclusion that a long period of persuasion from the actors supporting the school’s principles was set into play, in which to convince the government of allowing the privately-operated school to be able to base the education on waldorf pedagogy. The reason why the school could flourish during these times was proved to come down to forces not foreseen by first glance. Lobbyism by the founders of Kristofferskolan to get the media on their side was discovered to be one of the utmost reasons to how the school could convince the government of providing subsidies yearly. The study was made using the method argumentation analysis and qualitative text analysis.

Religious Social Welfare and the Reshaping of the Relationship between State and Churches in Brazil in the XXIst Century / Papéis e práticas sociais das organizações religiosas no Brasil do século XXI

Mourier, Eliott 23 September 2013 (has links)
The present work purports to contribute to a better understanding of the contemporaneous changes of the relationship between Politics and Religion, through the lenses of the growing social action undertaken by religious actors and the increasing account Governments are taking of it via the establishment of “public-religious partnerships”. At a time when the crisis of welfare statesrequires of them to rethink their models and social practices, the religious entities, more and more diverse and committed, not only to the salvation of souls, but also to their material and physical welfare and security, offer a credible alternative to Governments which have become more “supervisors” rather than “providers” of social goods and services. The Brazilian case – which will here command our attention –, where the “flexible separation” between State and Churches allows the instauration of successful win-win collaborations, witnesses the emergence and the proliferation of those “public-religious partnerships” that this work will attempt to define and typologize. These forms of collaborations between the State and the historical Catholic entities of course, but also increasingly with Evangelical, Spirit-Kardecist, Mormon or even Afro-Brazilian actors, offer a relevant framework of interpretation for the transformations of the State and the public action, and also of the evolutions of the religious sphere. Thus, the “public-religious partnerships” reflect in a symptomatic way the actual reshaping of the spheres and the relationship between Modernity and Religion in the global era, which the present study will attempt to portray.
