Inga Elisabeth Jansdotter : Ett exempel på dvala-predikande i Uppland 1858

Nyström, Per January 2011 (has links)
Sleep-preaching was a phenomenon that occurred in the ecstatic revival movement in Sweden and Finland at the end of the1700s and in the 1800s. It was mainly women from the lower classes, but sometimes even children that was sleep-preaching.They made their messages often lying in a trance-like condition. This work will present one of these women, Inga ElisabethJansdotter, who lived in Uppland in the mid-1800s, as well as the source material available about her.

Hälsa och datorkonsumtion bland pojkar i årskurs nio : En komparativ tvärsnittsstudie

Forsberg, Hanna, Jildenhed, Cecilia January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of computer consumption among boys in ninth grade, and to see if there were any differences with regards to physical activity, sleeping habits, breakfast habits and BMI. The study has cross sectional design with a comparative and a quantitative structure and is based on a former study called “Food & Health 2007”.  The respondents were represented by 181 boys in ninth grade, recruited from ten different schools in the county of Uppsala, who were answering questions about media consumption, breakfast habits, physical activity and sleeping habits. Daily computer consumption was reported up to one hour for 12 % of the respondents, one to three hours for 65 % and over three hours for 42 %. The boys who had a high physical activity level were less frequent in computer consumption while those who had a low physical activity level spent more time by the computer. The boys who were high computer consumers showed either a high or low level of physical activity, while the boys who were low computer consumers were presented mainly by boys with a high activity level. BMI increased in relation to increasing computer consumption and in relation to less prevalence of physical activity. The boys with high computer consumption had a higher BMI than the low consumers and involve a risk of decreased general health. Further studies are required to confirm the results and to find out the causes for the differences, and to give a foundation for further work against overweight, obesity and decreasing level of physical activity among children and adolescents.

Studies on the expression of the major cell surface molecules of insect forms of Trypanosoma congolense, a major parasite of cattle in Africa

Loveless, Bianca C. 11 January 2011 (has links)
African trypanosomes are protozoan parasites that cause African trypanosomiasis, diseases that affect humans and their livestock. Not only has trypanosomiasis had an overwhelming effect on the development of tropical Africa in the past, but it also constitutes one of the most significant present economic problems of the continent. Trypanosomes alternate between a mammalian host and a tsetse vector using a complex life cycle. In the mammalian host the trypanosomes live as bloodstream forms (BSFs) that are so proficient at antigenic variation, and thus host immune system evasion, that no suitable vaccine candidates have yet been identified. In contrast, the lifecycle stages that exist in the tsetse vector do not undergo antigenic variation. This potentially makes the vector-occupying trypanosomes much better targets for control if strategies can be devised to disrupt their lifecycle in the vector or to interfere with their transmission to mammalian hosts. The primary impediment to developing strategies for disruption of trypanosome life cycles in tsetse is a lack of understanding of the molecular basis of trypanosome-tsetse interactions. Although several major surface molecules have been identified on insect form trypanosomes, these have not been well studied due to a lack of appropriate antibody probes and to the difficulty in obtaining sufficient quantities of the different parasite life cycle stages required for such molecular studies. My thesis research was focused on developing and using monoclonal antibody probes for analysis of expression of major surface molecules of Trypanosoma congolense, a serious pathogen of cattle in Africa. I used this species of trypanosome since in addition to being a socioeconomically important parasite, all four of its major life cycle stages can be grown in vitro in amounts sufficient for immunochemical analysis. I successfully derived and characterized monoclonal antibodies that were useful for detecting the three major surface proteins of T. congolense insect forms: glutamic acid/alanine rich protein (GARP), the T. congolense heptapeptide repeat protein (TcHRP) and congolense epimastogote specific protein (CESP). Selected monoclonal antibody probes were then employed for expression analysis of these molecules throughout the parasite life cycle using in vitro grown trypanosomes and parasites taken directly from infected tsetse. In addition, I determined the peptide epitopes for two of my GARP-specific monoclonal antibodies and in collaboration with Dr. Martin Boulanger and Jeremy Mason was able to localize the epitopes on a high resolution three-dimensional structure obtained by X-ray crystallography. This allowed us to derive a model that describes the orientation of GARP in the trypanosome surface membrane and explains the possible structure-function relationships involved in replacement of the bloodstream form variant surface glycoprotein (VSG) by GARP as trypanosomes differentiate in the tsetse vector after a bloodmeal.

Introduction: Enuresis, sleeping respiratory problems and asthma are diseases that compromises the quality of sleep in children and may occur isolate or in association with each other. Enuresis is considered one of the most common sleeping disorders in pediatrics. Sleeping respiratory disorders (SRD) such as obstructive sleep apnea are common problems in infancy and association with enuresis has been demonstrated. According to the United Airway Concept, abnormalities of both superior and inferior airways may coexist. A sibilant toddler has a greater chance of having snoring and nocturnal apnea. Since asthma and SRD may be associated and SRD has an association with enuresis, we questioned the possibility of the association between asthma and enuresis. Objective: to evaluate possibility of the association between asthma and enuresis in children 6 to 14 years of age. Methods: Between August 2012 and March 2015, parents of children between 6 to 14 years of age from 16 different schools in our region were randomly chosen for interview. Children with non-monosymptomatic enuresis, neurological diseases were not included. A specific questionnaire for SRD (Tucson) and the ISAAC questionnaire (Internacional Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood) were used for the evaluation of SRD and Asthma and a structured questionnaire was applied to evaluate enuresis and its characteristics. Results: We evaluated 524 children, 283 males and 240 females, with mean age in years of 9.42 ±2.46. The overall prevalence of enuresis in this sample was 15.87% [12.98-19.26%] 95%CI. Enuresis is associated to apnea reported by parents OR = 5.34 [2.19 to 13.03] 95% CI (p = 0.0002), to history of wheezing at any time of life OR = 1,63[1, 01 to 2.64] 95% CI (p = 0.0465) and to have current asthma OR = 2.33 [1.37 to 3.95] 95% CI (p = 0.0017) Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that asthma, as well with sleeping respiratory disorders, is associated with primary nocturnal enuresis.

Sjuksköterskans omvårdnad vid sömnproblematik hos vuxna patienter som vårdas på sjukhus : En litteraturstudie / The nurse´s nursing for sleeping problems in adult patients who are hospitalized : A literature review

Pålsson, Felicia, Widström, Stella January 2021 (has links)
Backgroud: Sleep is an essential component of the nurse’s tending. It is also a fundamental factor in the human well-being and recovery. Numerous of diseases affect human sleep. When the body does not get the sleep that is required, it can result in consequenses such as menial ability to concentrate, impaired decision-making ability and it can also result in rised mood swings. In addition, it can contribute to cardiovascular disease and type two diabetes. Aim: The aim was to illustrate the nurse ́s nursing in the event of sleep problems in adult patients who are cared for in hospital. Method: General literature study with structured search method. Ten result articles were selected. Results: The result developed in four categories: the nurse’s knowledge about patients’ sleep; nightly sound and light exposure which affects the patient's sleep; anxiety, worry and pain which affects the patient's sleep and organizational factors which affects the patient's sleep. Conclusion: Above all, it turns out that a redirection of the care environment regarding noise levels, light exposure and disruptive nursing interventions at night is required. It also needs to be restructured within the business to give the nurse more suitable conditions and, in general, time to support patients’ sleep health. It was also stated that in some scenarios the nurse felt that some of the competence and knowledge for patients with sleep problems was lacking.
