The sympathetically project : A qualitative study concerning the construction of otherness in the relationship between social services and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children

Westerholm, Märtha, de Vos, Simon January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine how social workers relate to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, regarding their cultural background and potential social issues. In order to achieve a more profound and comprehensive view of the social workers views regarding the separated children, we selected to execute semi structured interviews with social workers. These interviews were aimed at those social workers who performed assessments and investigations concerning unaccompanied children. We completed nine interviews which we recorded and transcribed in a strict manor. When we analyzed the empirical material, certain themes where identified as more protuberant and thus we our selection was based on what we regarded as the most relevant topics, in accordance to the aim of the study. Furthermore, our focus was set upon the social workers views regarding cultural differences between unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and Swedish children. We also decided to focus on which views these social workers portrayed, regarding the unaccompanied asylum-seeking child’s cultural background and how social issues could affect the social workers frame, their assets and formulation of their interventions, concerning separated children. We learned during our study that the social workers are enduring a heavy workload, especially since the numbers of arriving separated children are rapidly increasing. Furthermore, the economical recourses, in forms of personnel, are not increasing the same pace. In recent years, societal attitudes have altered and more negative and separative views regarding separated children are apparent. However, the social workers have applied a more universalistic approach towards the children to show the resemblances rather than differences between unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and Swedish children. Our study makes evident, that underneath this universalistic policy, culturalization of the children took form and this development also affected how the interventions were framed. Conclusively, this study displays how culturalization of the interventions affected the care of the children negatively and resulted in a declining standard of care, as well as differentiation of care.

Att hitta hem : Socialarbetares upplevelser av nyanlända personers möjligheter och begränsningar att bosätta sig i Sverige / Finding your way home : Social workers’ experiences of newly arrived immigrants’ possibilities and limitations resettling in Sweden

Nilsson, Kajsa, Baldesten, Gustav January 2018 (has links)
Municipalities in Sweden have had severe difficulties with providing housing for newly arrived immigrants that have been granted permanent or temporary residency in Sweden. There is a shortage of affordable apartments and houses in Sweden, due to multiple reasons. The purpose of this essay was to study social workers’ experiences and perceptions of the housing situation for newly arrived immigrants and the tools and strategies they possess to affect the housing situation.  The empirical data has been gathered through semi-structured interviews with seven social workers in three municipalities in Sweden. Our result shows that social workers in this sector have to deal with a wide range of emotions, such as stress, frustration, anger and joy. Furthermore, the result proved that current housing policies are not working in favour of newly arrived immigrants. The social workers interviewed in the study experienced that newly arrived immigrants had very limited possibilities to retain a place to reside in Sweden. We have analyzed our findings through the theoretical concepts of social capital and empowerment, and found that a person’s social capital has a large impact on his or hers housing situation. As a conclusion, we feel that further research about newly arrived immigrants and housing is needed so that unacceptable living conditions for newly arrived immigrants as well as stress and frustration for the people in this line of work can be avoided.

Professionella samtal med barn i utsatta situationer : En kvalitativ studie om barnsammtal utifrån socialsekreterarens perspektiv

Basmaci, Adessa, Varli, Daniella January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to study social workers' experiences of communicating with children within the frame of child protection work. This includes the key factors that social workers experience in professional communication with children, how the conversations are designed and implemented, as well as the obstacles and opportunities that may arise in communication with children. The study is based on a qualitative approach, as the purpose of the study is to investigate the social worker's own experience and experiences of communication with children ´s. The empirical material of the study has been acquired through six semi structured interviews with qualified social worker in a children and family. The result shows that there are key aspects that play an important role in professional communication with children, one aspect was the importance of the circumstances and the environment of the conversation. The study shows that the social secretary uses different methods and tools in the implementation of child talks. The result identifies obstacles and opportunities in communication with children, an obstacle raised by social workers was situations where the child did not want to participate and an opportunity is a good conversation environment. Furthermore, the results of the study are discussed based on previous research and theoretical reference framework, which largely confirms what the social worker emphasized for the outcome of the study.

You can not let people live on the street" : A qualitative study on how the social services work to help abused women with housing

Redzepi, Ajsa January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate and understand how social workers in social services work with abused women in intimate partner relationships in order to accommodate housing and how they are limited in their efforts to arrange accommodation for these women. The study is conducted through semistructured interviews and I have interviewed six social workers which belongs to four equal municipalities around middle Sweden. Each social worker work with abused women but it may differ in how they work with these women depending on the organization structure. Interest has been in describing restrictions and contradictions that the social workers encounter when providing accommodation to abused women in intimate partner relationships. The result was analyzed on the basis of previous research, Michael Lipsky ́s and Johansson Roine ́s theory of street-level bureaucrats and Svensson, Johnsson & Laanemets concept of discretion. The result shows that the social workers' scope of action is limited by various factors, for instance the organizational limitations, laws and housing shortages.

Effektiva samverkansprocesser?

Al-asadi, Ronza Halla, Hanna, Jessika January 2017 (has links)

: A qualitative study on causes of juvenile delinquency

Olsson, Frida, Madani, Rima January 2020 (has links)
This interview study presents what social workers consider contributes to young people entering a criminal lifestyle. The purpose is to discover which risk and protective factors social workers think influence whether or not youth develop criminal behavior (both in their environment and in themselves) and how one can help youth who are already involved in crime. The result shows, among other things, that unfulfilled needs (such as love and safety) at home can lead youth to criminal behavior. Judgment from adults can also cause youth to enter into or continue a criminal lifestyle. Protective factors for youth are therefore to have safe adults in their lives, as well as adults who are interested in listening to and understanding their situation. The result is then analyzed using the theoretical concepts of resilience, attachment, defense mechanisms, social learning, and the looking-glass self. / I denna intervjustudie presenteras vilka orsaker som socialarbetare anser leder ungdomar in i kriminalitet.

Tiderman, Josefin January 2020 (has links)
This qualitative study aims to examine social workers experiences of working with hoarders, focusing on what social psychological factors may be thought to play a role in promoting collaboration. Fourteen interviews have been conducted with social workers in social psychiatry units in various districts of Stockholm county. The results have been analyzed using attribution theory, interaction theory and structural theory. The results show that there are several factors that affect the collaboration with the hoarder. Collaboration is considered vital for the hoarder to make progress and it is also important that there is consensus among professionals about how to approach the problem. Social workers experience a strong resistance in working with clients, which places high demands on the professional role to be persistent and patient. The social workers in this study emphasize different strategies for building relationships with the client, which in many cases go beyond the conventional role of the social worker. The social workers agree that it is important to proceed cautiously and allow the process to take time. The social workers in this study emphasize that it is important to think about being sensitive and at the same time direct with the client. They believe that the balance between being sensitive and direct is difficult as they have experienced that the clients has been offended by them showing strong reactions. The social workers emphasize the difficulty of being able to help clients that do not want to, of which the free will can create problems to be able to help the clients. At the same time, they point out that voluntary is not always voluntary when there are underlying eviction threats.

: En kvalitativ studie om yrkesverksammas erfarenheter och tankar om insatser mot psykisk ohälsa / What is being done to prevent mental ill-health in young people?

Björk, Matilda, Björklund, Anna January 2020 (has links)
The mental ill-health of young people is a growing problem, which is something that must be stopped. The aim of this study was to show the perceptions and experiences of professionals about treatment against mental ill-health for young people. We conducted a qualitative study in which we interviewed six professionals who work with young people in different contexts in the community. The collected data has been analyzed with a thematic analysis. The results of this study showed that professionals work very much in their daily work with preventative efforts. There is short of research on the subject, especially evidencebased. The study's results showed that mental ill-health is a problem that is partly a consequence of the changing society we live in today. Our opinion is that more research is needed on the subject and more working methods that professionals can use.
