Euclides, Maria Luzinete. January 2007 (has links)
Abstract: The representation of the information needs aiming the retrieval of relevant information has demanded from the areas of Information Organization and Retrieval the development of theoretical and instrumental models which may help in the procedures of analysis, synthesis, representation and retrieval of the documentary contents, contributing both to the theoretical sedimentation of the area and to the professional training. In this context, the perception of the demand of the information needs of a users' community becomes an important aspect to be considered by the indexer in the process of treatment of documentary contents of an information system. This way, one proposes an investigation about the representation of the information needs in the user's perspective, in order to identify conceptual elements and models that may provide the indexing professional with subsidies for the treatment of information of documentary contents, turned to the demand of the users' community of an information system. By means of an exploratory approach of theoretical investigative nature and a methodology of analysis of the theoretical search models of Tom Wilson and David Ellis, this research aims at contributing so the indexer may be able to improve the representation of the documentary contents and enlarge the vision about the demand of the users' community. The results obtained signal that, for the treatment of documentary contents turned to the demand, the option of the socio-cognitive approach demonstrates to meet in a more satisfactory manner the complexities that involve the user in his/her social dimension and, consequently, his/her information needs. / Mestre

The Construction of Refugees in News Headlines : A Critical Discourse Analysis on Rohingya Refugees in Malaysia and Thailand / The Construction of Refugees in News Headlines : A Critical Discourse Analysis on Rohingya Refugees in Malaysia and Thailand

Bach, carina January 2019 (has links)
As news coverage regarding refugees have increased in the past decades, the media representation of refugees in the host countries tend to more or less portray them as national security risk. This study questions the differences between the news discourses in main recipient countries and the less recipient countries asking what factors determine the portrayal. This study seeks to fill the already existing field of research on media representation on Rohingya as available research is conducted on main recipient countries, Myanmar and Bangladesh. The countries chosen for this study are Malaysia and Thailand as they are considered third point of exit countries, they are in same region and as each country has same religious belief as either Myanmar or the Rohingya. Thus, the objective of the study is to understand how the news discourse in Malaysia and Thailand present their ideological perspectives on Rohingya in a subtle way to influence the opinion of the general public. Furthermore, it seeks to reveal how language is used in news reports to frame Rohingya and the underlying factors in which determines the approach of their news reporting. To answer the objective, this research analyses in total 40 news headlines by using the method of Critical Discourse Analysis. Moreover, the results indicate that the news discourse in Malaysia predominantly reports on the Rohingya emphatically and portrays them as active actors in the crisis doing anything to survive the Myanmar violence. The situation of Rohingya is also emphasized in the news discourse in Thailand, though not to same extent as in Malaysia. Thailand rather reports on the crisis itself and how the other actors involved urge and criticize one another. Furthermore, this study demonstrates that portrayal of Rohingya differs depending on who they are to the affected country as well as the international political relationship between the countries affected.

A contextual analysis of compound nouns in Shona lexicography

Mheta, Gift January 2011 (has links)
This research is in the area of lexicography and investigates the relationship between Shona terminology development and the culture of the language community for which the terminology is intended. It is a contextual analysis of compound nouns found in Shona terminological dictionaries. The study specifically explores how lexicographers together with health, music, language and literature specialists make use of their knowledge about Shona cultural contexts in the creation of compound nouns. Thus, this research foregrounds Shona socio-cultural contexts and meaning generation in terminology development. This study employs a quadruple conceptual framework. The four components of the framework that are utilised are the Traditional Descriptive Approach (TDA), Cognitive Approach (CG), Systemic Functional Approach (SFL), and Semiotic Remediation (SRM). TDA is used in the linguistic categorisation of Shona compound nouns. In addition, it provides the metalanguage with which to describe the constituent parts of Shona compound nouns. As TDA is mainly confined to the linguistic dimension, this research employs CG, SFL, and SRM to explore the cultural and socio-cognitive dimensions of terminology development.

Prosodie, Syntaxe, et Référence : processus cognitifs et marqueurs linguistiques / Prosody, Syntax, and Reference : cognitive processes and linguistic markers

Rousier-Vercruyssen, Lucie 09 June 2017 (has links)
Referring to people, objects and events is a cental piece of the Speech. This dissertation studies the variation in the use of referential markers, by combining syntactic and prosodic cues, produced during a storytelling task sequential pictures. The goal is to determine the effect of situational parameters on the production of the syntactic and prosodic markers. Two other goals are also pursued: (i) to highlight the underlying (socio)cognitive abilities and (ii) to study the impact of aging. To meet these objectives, a storytelling task with sequential pictures was used to obtain the production of referential markers. 30 younger (age span:19-39) and 30 older participants (age span : 59-79) undertook this storytelling task. All the participants were submitted to (socio)cognitive tests to characterize their profiles. Our results show that referential marking is a complex process influenced by multiple situational factors. Indeed, the syntactic and prosodic markers vary according to discourse stages and the referential context. Depending on the cognitive accessibility of the referent - in particular the lesser cognitive accessibility, referential marking requires (socio)cognitive abilities. The results also indicate effects of aging on referential marking : the use of referential markers is different in seniors and in younger participants. Given the importance of referential marking during conversations, our results may have some clinical implications.

ABSTRACT This work stems from unrest about effective learning built, individually and collectively, on the process of educational management in distance learning programs, and their impact on the practice of professionals working in this process. Such unrest is the result of direct observation participant in the development of the first edition of the Curso de Especialização em Gestão Escolar, in Programa Nacional Escola de Gestores da Educação Básica, developed in Bahia, whose management is carried out by a team that operates in a decentralized and geographically distributed. In lived experience, it was found a common problem in the development of distance education, which is the absence of collective and collaborative involvement of professionals within the teaching teams in the construction of knowledge oriented planning, organization and development of courses in the distance, set in computermediated spaces. Thus, based on preliminary analysis of the experience and the literature in order to settle the problem presented to the second edition of course, sought to promote the establishment community of practice in order to support the dynamic, autonomous and multidisciplinary knowledge construction. Within this community of practice, which had as interaction spaces for work, available resources in the Moodle platform, looking up, then understand, from socio-cognitive aspects, the process of knowledge construction in the collective team teaching of the course. The analysis is intended as a socio-cognitive phenomenology theoretical-methodological assumption Discourse Analysis Franco-Brazilian, trying to understand in depth the relationship that exists between the statement (text), interspeech (context socio historical ideological) and practice (situated action). At the end of this work, it is proposed guidelines for the implementation of educational management, collegiate and distributed to distance courses, considering the establishment of a community of practice.

Analyse des déterminants sociocognitifs de l'intention de s'engager dans les programmes de restructuration du travail informel au Cameroun / Sociocognitive determinants analysis of the intention to commit in informal work restructuring programs in Cameroon.

Le Grand Tchagnéno Téné, Charles 09 March 2018 (has links)
This thesis has a double objective: to evaluate the theoretical pertinence of the planned behaviour theory (PBT) in the Cameroonian context and to validate an integrative explanatory model of the intention of engaging in the informal work sector restructuring programs. Our stating point was the observation of the distance that exists between the increasing mobilisation towards the formalisation of informal activities and their paradoxical persistence in developing countries in general and particularly in Cameroon. Our preoccupation is to understand why the informal work actors refuse to adhere to public policies in favour of the said sector. Which psycho-social variables could justify their intention and consequentLiterature on the informal work considers it as a category of analysis (Busso, 2005) and has the tendency of explaining the failure of programs by external, socioeconomic and political causes. By doing so, they neglect the psycho-social dimension in the implementation of public policies and the accompaniment of change. The successive failure of programs initiated in Cameroon in order to restructure the informal work justifies the interest towards socio-cognitive determinants of engagement in the said programs. Based on the cognitions-behaviours models, we expect that the representations, beliefs and perceptions could help in the understanding of the intentions of the actors to engage in informal work restructuring programs. Therefore, prediction models of behaviour have been mobilised in order to discern those socio-cognitive factors that can likely explain those intentions. Several theoretical approaches have been used in this framework. These include: the theory of social representations (Jodelet, 1996), the theory of planned behaviour (Ajzen, 2015), the goal oriented behaviour theory (Locke & Latham, 2002), etc.Seven studies have been realised. The first one which is exploratory, analyses the social representations of the informal work and the programs geared towards its reorganization. The six other studies are empirical. They analyse the relationship between social representations, beliefs and attitudes respectively of the informal workers and the informal business promoters (studies 2 and 3); they evaluate the theoretical pertinence of the planned behaviour model just as the mediator role of the desire (Bagozzi, 1992) between the behavioural intention and its determinants (studies 4 and 5). In the 6th and 7th studies are evaluated the impact of the knowledge, the perceived credibility of the programs and the actors in charge of piloting them, as well as the perception of information about those programs on the intention. The hypotheses are verified on two samples (337 informal workers and 175 informal business promoters respectively). The global model is evaluated. The results reinforce the thesis. Despite the pertinence of the planned behaviour model in the explanation of the intention of engaging in the programs, the integration of new variables improve significantly the explained variance of the intention. Indeed, this variance goes from 52.40% to 76% among informal workers and from 44% to 78.30% among informal business promoters. Moreover, the results show that knowledge of programs plays a major role not only in explaining the intention, but also in the attitude. These results are in line with previous works (Radovic & Hasking, 2013). The perceived credibility of the programs appears also as a major determinant of the intention among informal workers while it is less among informal work promoters. Among the latter, there is quite a high effect of the perception of information on the intention of engaging in the informal work restructuring programs. These results are also consistent with the literature (Lunenberg, 2011) which considers the desire as the proximate determinant of the intention.
