Sipel, Tovi January 2012 (has links)

Thermo-economic optimization of a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) system using Tabu search

Liu, Zelong 11 November 2010 (has links)
Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) systems in conjunction with a primary gas turbine and a secondary steam turbine can provide advanced modern power generation with high thermal efficiency at low cost. To achieve such low cost efficiencies, near optimal settings of parameters of the HRSG must be employed. Unfortunately, current approaches to obtaining such parameter settings are very limited. The published literature associated with the Tabu Search (TS) metaheuristic has shown conclusively that it is a powerful methodology for the solution of very challenging large practical combinatorial optimization problems. This report documents a hybrid TS-direct pattern search (TS-DPS) approach and applied to the thermoeconomic optimization of a three pressure level HRSG system. To the best of our knowledge, this algorithm is the first to be developed that is capable of successfully solving a practical HRSG system. A requirement of the TS-DPS technique was the creation of a robust simulation module to evaluate the associated extremely complex 19 variable objective function. The simulation module was specially constructed to allow the evaluation of infeasible solutions, a highly preferable capability for methods like TS-DPS. The direct pattern search context is explicitly embodied within the TS neighborhoods permitting different neighborhood structures to be tested and compared. Advanced TS is used to control the associated continuum discretization with minimal memory requirements. Our computational studies show that TS is a very effective method for solving this HRSG optimization problem. / text

On Construction Of Stable Project Schedules

Gormez, Baran 01 December 2005 (has links) (PDF)
It is a well-known fact that project activities are subject to considerable uncertainty, which may lead to multiple schedule disruptions during project execution. As a result, the random nature of activity durations has been the subject of numerous research efforts since the introduction of the initial PERT. A common problem which arises in project management is the fact that the planned schedule is often disrupted by several uncontrollable factors like weather conditions, other environmental factors, additional time that might be required for rework and correction of detected defects. As a result, project managers are often unable to meet the promised completion dates. It is therefore vital to take into account such possible disruptions and their potential negative consequences at the project schedule design stage. Hence, the ability of the pre-schedule to absorb disruptions may be very important in such settings. At this point two new criteria are used in modern scheduling literature: &quot / robustness&quot / and &quot / stability&quot / . In this thesis, we propose several stability measures. These measures are embedded in a tabu search algorithm to generate stable schedules in a multi resource environment subject to random disruptions.

Heuristic methods for coalition structure generation

Amir-Hussin, Amir A. B. January 2017 (has links)
The Coalition Structure Generation (CSG) problem requires finding an optimal partition of a set of n agents. An optimal partition means one that maximizes global welfare. Computing an optimal coalition structure is computationally hard especially when there are externalities, i.e., when the worth of a coalition is dependent on the organisation of agents outside the coalition. A number of algorithms were previously proposed to solve the CSG problem but most of these methods were designed for systems without externalities. Very little attention has been paid to finding optimal coalition structures in the presence of externalities, although externalities are a key feature of many real world multiagent systems. Moreover, the existing methods, being non-heuristic, have exponential time complexity which means that they are infeasible for any but systems comprised of a small number of agents. The aim of this research is to develop effective heuristic methods for finding optimal coalition structures in systems with externalities, where time taken to find a solution is more important than the quality of the solution. To this end, four different heuristics methods namely tabu search, simulated annealing, ant colony search and particle swarm optimisation are explored. In particular, neighbourhood operators were devised for the effective exploration of the search space and a compact representation method was formulated for storing details about the multiagent system. Using these, the heuristic methods were devised and their performance was evaluated extensively for a wide range of input data.

Tavares, Renata Corbetta January 2016 (has links)
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2016. / Made available in DSpace on 2016-12-13T03:11:33Z (GMT).
/ Abstract : The present dissertation consists in an examination of the translation process accomplished by Nabokov: the transposition of his novel Lolita to screenplay format. Aiming to identify how the author/translator approaches the central theme of the plot - the controversial relationship of a grown man and his teen-age step daughter - an analysis of such process is presented. Such analysis is based on the functionalist approach to translation studies, specially on the contributions of Christiane Nord (1991) with her model of text analysis in translation. Based on the study carried out in this dissertation it is possible to conclude that the controversial theme of Lolita's plot is approached through two main biases in Nabokov's retextualization to screenplay: the focus on semiotic elements in the written text (a peculiar aspect of the target text), and the production of dialogues by using literal extracts of the novel. Furthermore a discreet mitigation of the controversial nature of the relationship between Humbert and Lolita's characters, and a strategy towards making H.H.'s character more relatable to the public are identified as translation choices in the retextualization.

Sundström, Matilda, Carlzon, Maria January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine how the portrayed images of mental ill-health has been constructed and re-constructed in the online publications of the tabloid Aftonbladet, in the year of 2004 and 2014. The study also examined similarities and differences in the portrayed images of mental ill-health published by the writers, recurred as metaphors. The study also aimed to increase awareness and understanding about how conveyed images in news media about mental ill-health can influence people. The study is grounded in a social constructionist approach and the collected data was analyzed with impression management, the looking glass self and performativity. The result indicated similarities concerning that Sweden’s mental ill- health increases, and a taboo about the mental ill-health. Differences in the result indicated distinction in modality between the years, i.e. with how much certainty the portrayed images were published. The result showed a more alarming situation concerning mental ill-health 2014 than 2004. In the empiric of 2014 the conveyed image appeared slightly more bound to person and the stressed environment of the contemporary individual was portrayed as the cause of the increase of mental ill- health. Recurring, images of certain exposed groups were portrayed as victims of the mental ill-health. The social worker has an important task revealing how the prevailing conceptions about mental ill-health in society affects the social work as well as the client. /
Andra författaren Maria Carlzon heter numera Maria Fransson.

Visuell kommunikation i kampanjfilm : Hur budskap kommunicerar genom visuella element.

von Schéele, Emma, Mähler, Matilda January 2021 (has links)
