Hedberg, Caroline, Öjergren, Sofia January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate the existing types of working methods and approaches used by professionals on clients with suicidal thoughts. Through interviews with five professionals who meet clients with suicidal thoughts, data were collected for a qualitative study. The result suggested that the working methods used by these professionals are mapping based on therapy talk, evaluation forms, talks and follow-ups. The professionals treat their clients by listening, having the courage to ask questions about suicide, to allow the client to narrate their story and to be there for the client. The results are expected to contribute to increasing our knowledge as social workers on working methods and approaches towards clients with suicidal thoughts. Our choice was based on the lack of specific training on that field within the study program in social work.

O Corpo no cinema: pensamento em movimento / The body in the cinema: thinking in motion

Silva, Mônica Toledo 25 April 2005 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Monica Toledo Silva.pdf: 1851946 bytes, checksum: d535d7b70aafb5f845671e4e69435685 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2005-04-25 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Inspired by the philosopher Gilles Deleuze s propose that the element of cinema is the gesture and not the image, we propose the thinking- action of the body as the mode of organization of a film. Therefore, we follow the hipotesis that the body has a place not yet explored by the cinema s theory, although in pratic it presents precious exercices of different forms of representation, in the context of the organizational modes of gestures and images created in the body and from the body. Cinema presents itself as a media complex enough to discuss movement in general and, at the same time, to colaborate with the specific research for the body s place in the film. Along the text, we suggest that studying the body in movement means to recognize it as a communication processor in the cinematographic scene. We propose to conduct the modes of construction of the filmic narrative, exposing three distinct resourses of body appropriation in the creation of sense: when the place of the body is represented by the camera, when it organises itself in the character s body, and when it is presented in the film locations. Besides an historical and conceptual introduction which proposes an unique taxonomy of the representations of the body in the movies, the Monograph presents two Chapters. In the first one, it analyses one single film, where the body thinkings not only iluminate well these three places, but also seam to create and conduct the narrative, being extended to other bodies in scene that conduct our perception and determine an aesthetics and a film composition that are singular. This is the Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne film, Le fils ( The son , 2002). In the second chapter we develop a creative exercise of video-art, which language porposes new discussions and contributions for the understanding of the image construction of a thought in movement: Brevidade ( Brief , 2005). As a methodology, we work with specific intertheoric conexions, from the research of specialists as Jacques Aumont (1997), François Jost and André Gaudreault (1990), José Lino Grunewald, Philippe Dubois and Arlindo Machado (2004), and from the investigations of a few concepts studied by the neurocientists António Damasio (1999), Rodolfo Llinás (2003) and Gerald Edelman (2003), redimensioned by the philosophers Gilles Deleuze (1984, 2000), George Lakoff and Mark Johnson (2001) and by the researchers Helena Katz and Christine Greiner (2005), in what is related to the body studies specificaly as an object of communication. In the many possible conections that could be developed, we emphasize the topics refered to the studies of time, of movement, of the creation of internal images and of the body transit with the ambient. It is about a theorical -practical exercise that selects informations in the academic and scientific texts in order to bring them to an artistic and communicational context, through a theoric intersection and a creative propose, aiming to get started a process that shall be continued in a Doctorship, in the sense of turning the cinema studies disposable to researchers from other areas, and therefore extending not only the cinema s perspectives but its own language.

Åström, Mathilda, Lindström, Katarina January 2013 (has links)
Background: Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer among men in Sweden.Getting a cancer diagnosis is stressful for both the patient and their partner. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the degree of stress responses in the form of avoidance behavior and intrusive thoughts in patients with prostate cancer and their partners. Another purpose was to assure the quality and design of the measuring instrument and its response options.Method: The study had a quantitative cross-sectional design. The data was collected using the questionnaire "Impact of Event Scale" (IES) and by a questionnaire framed according to "The Question and Answer Model" (QAM) to safeguard the quality of the IES. Questionnaires were distributed at surgical and oncology clinics in Uppsala and Falun during the spring of 2013. Inclusion criteria for the study were patients with prostate cancer and their partners (n = 34). 12 respondents participated. The data were analyzed descriptively and with Mann-Whitey test. Results: It was found that patients (n = 6) with prostate cancer have moderate degree of stress responses in the form of avoidance behavior. Partners (n = 6) were found to have strong degree of stress responses in the form of intrusive thoughts. Any significant difference between patients and partners dit not appear. The majority of study participants (n = 11) were confident of their answers in the IES.Conclusion: Partners seem to have a higher level of stress than patients with prostate cancer, which is in line with similar studies' results. Interventions to reach this group and ensure its need is desirable. More studies are lined. The overall results indicate that the measuring instrument IES is of good quality and are measuring the concepts that it indicate to measure.

A Cross-cultural Investigation Of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Symptomatology: The Role Of Religiosity And Religious Affiliation

Altin, Mujgan 01 March 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The main aim of the present study was to better understand the influence of nationality/religious affiliation and degree of religious devoutness on OCD symptoms, more specifically scrupulosity symptoms and beliefs by comparing the Turkish Muslim students with the Canadian Christians who show different degrees of religiosity. To clarify the effect of religiosity on OCD symptomatology, Bible school and Divinity school students were included in the present study as an extreme religious group. Furthermore, the present study was aimed to examine the cross-cultural differences in the prevalence, content, appraisal and control of intrusions, using a structured interview methodology. Religiosity, guilt and scrupulosity scales and interview schedule were adapted into Turkish. The analyses revealed that the psychometric properties of the adapted measurements were satisfactory. Then, the effect of religiosity and religious affiliation on the experience of OCD symptoms, scrupulosity, and OCD relevant beliefs were examined via univariate and multivariate analyses. Results revealed that the effect of religiosity and nationality were significant for general distress. Results also revealed that regardless of nationality, high religious individuals reported higher degree of OCD and scrupulosity symptoms, and dysfunctional obsessive beliefs than low religious ones. The effect of religiosity on OCD and scrupulosity symptoms differed by religious affiliation. High religious Muslim students reported higher degree of compulsions, and fear of God symptoms than high religious Christians. Furthermore, religiosity and nationality affected obsessive beliefs differently. Turkish students reported higher level of perfectionism and intolerance for uncertainty in comparison with Canadian students. These results were supported by subsequent regression analyses. Furthermore, interview data showed that except for the frequency of the intrusions, the content of the intrusions was almost universal, and frequency and distress as a response to intrusions is very low in the normal population. Nationality and degree of religiosity revealed some minor differences in primary and secondary appraisals, and control strategies. These factors were specifically significant for religious and sexual intrusions. Results suggested that the religious affiliation and degree of religiosity may provide content for intrusions, rather being a causal factor. Keywords: Intrusive thoughts, Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms, Faulty belief domains and appraisal, Religiosity and Religious Affiliation

"You have to find a way to glue it in your brain": children's views on learning multiplication facts

Morrison, Vivienne Frances January 2007 (has links)
While there has been research on development of multiplicative reasoning, and how to teach multiplication facts, there is little research on how children consider they learn these. This study explores the children's learning as they consider how they commit their multiplication facts to memory, discover calculation strategies and develop multiplicative thinking. A group of eleven Year 4 children (8 years old) participated in a series of 13 lessons where they became coresearchers in the exploration of their learning. A contextually based thematic approach was provided through 'Crocodilian Studies'. The mixed-method approach to this study included formal assessment, participant observation, individual interviews, the children's written ideas, and individual case studies. The most significant finding of this study was the powerful influence of peer learning. The children enriched and directed each other's learning as they shared ideas and reflected on their own mathematical learning as they observed and critiqued the thinking of peers. As the children were involved in thinking about how they learn they were able to identify gaps and construct their own learning pathways. A significant finding was that children can develop their multiplicative strategies while they commit their multiplication facts to memory, in a relatively short time provided that the learning process facilitates strategy development and understanding. By exposing the children to multiplication facts in sequenced clusters provided them with a manageable number of facts to be learnt at one time. Another finding related to how children develop calculation strategies through lesson activities rather than being explicitly taught them. The children considered practice important for memorisation. Parental support was significant in enriching the children's learning.

: A qualitative study focusing on experiences and thoughts about food waste among managers and employees at grocery stores

Vestermark, Antonia, Åkerblom, Carolina January 2014 (has links)
Abstract Background Reducing the amount of food waste is an important factor in achieving sustainable development. Grocery stores play important roles since they handle large amounts of groceries and provide food for numerous households. Studies concerning what and which amounts grocery stores throw away exist. However, few studies have examined how personnel in grocery stores experience and think about the subject.  Objective The aim was to examine managers and employee’s experiences and thoughts about food waste at grocery stores. Method The study was conducted as a qualitative study where interviews with managers and employees at eight grocery stores were carried out. The data material was transcribed and analyzed with content analysis according to Graneheim and Lundman. Results Food waste was seen as a problem area that participants believed was difficult to avert. They described it like an ethical dilemma when food is thrown and at the same time people are starving and the environment is affected. There are external factors that affect the stores, and thus can make working with food waste difficult. The financial matter was an important factor for the survival of supermarkets and it was found that the participants’ main reason for reducing food waste was the opportunity to save money. Other factors to reduce food waste were proper handling and good routines. Adequate knowledge was something that contributed to lower food waste and therefore participants found it should increase in both staff and customers. The idea ofcooperationwith producersperceived asgoodbutdifficultcurrentcompetitors. Conclusion This study has shown that food waste is a complex issue as it coexists with starvation and environmental stress. Grocery stores ought to change their attitudes regarding cooperation to enable joint actions against food waste. The possibility to save money drives the participants to act. The best way to minimize food waste is to educate personnel and to make more precise orders based on the actual demand.
