Why does the largest cosmetics company in the world does not enter the channel of the largest cosmetic company in Brazil?

January 2014 (has links)
Abstract: Urban expansion experienced by Brazilian cities has been occurring in discontinuity with the implementation of closed residential spaces of high standard in remote areas of compacted urban area, but also popular horizontal condominiums, to which we turn our attention in this dissertation, which seeks to understand how these new forms of living are influenced and influence the production of urban space in medium-sized cities, as Presidente Prudente and São Carlos. The methodological approach adopted is the daily life of its residents, in their relationship with urban spaces and practices of the inhabitants of an opened popular residential space in each of these cities were analyzed, in order to identify similarities and counterpoints. With the interviews, we found that the choice of closed type, by real estate agents, aims to reverse locational disadvantages and overexploit internal spaces, while for the residents, it is the strategic avoidance of the peripheries own stigmas in which surveyed condominiums are located. Although coexist with processes that are not new production of these peripheral spaces, new barriers (physical and symbolic) that contribute to new meanings of home ownership is diffused, while accentuating the trend toward privatization underway in these cities. / Mestre

Ṋesengani, Thinavhuyo Regina 01 1900 (has links)
Text in TshiVenḓa with abstracts in TshiVenḓa and English / The purpose of this study was to contextually describe and analyse how male authors of Tshivenḓa drama books have in their dialogue portrayed female characters in the manner that it may tend to educate or encourage the public to criticize and abuse them in communities and society. In Tshivenḓa literature therefore, some male authors of drama books have tended to misrepresent the characterisation of women. It is presumed that the ways in which women are portrayed in some Tshivenḓa dramas by male authors, tend to normatively educate, socially reproduce and sustain the abuse of women within communities and society in which they live. In most of these drams, male authors have written their bias, contextually depicted women unfairly shown and criticised them in different sorts of ways. The researcher applied the Ethnography of communication, Social constructionism, Feminism and Critical discourse analysis theories. These theories enabled her to understand that language in the hands of authors can be used to reproduce power, dominance, control and power abuse. This led her to focus on related literature which proved that indeed the problem exists. Methodically this is a qualitative descriptive study in which the documentation ‘Document Analysis’ dialogue of seven purposefully selected drama books were considered and data collected. It used Neuman’s (1996) Analytic Comparison which applies the method of agreement and method of difference. When the data was analysed, there emerged themes which carry findings. In brief, the results of this study inter alia show that some male authors of selected Tshivenḓa drama books, described women as weak, poor decision-makers and powerless in communities and society at large. On the other, in the characterisation of men, they show them as social architectures of how women should be seen as depicted, thereby dominated and mistreated objects. It also found that Tshivenḓa culture was misrepresented and incorrectly applied to criticise, dominate, discriminate and justify the abuse of women by husbands and relatives, mainly in-laws. The results also suggest that within the context, male authors socially subject our children (both boys and girls as reader of such books), to indoctrination and social education as unequal partners in society in which they live. / Tshipikwa tshihulwane tsha ino ngudo ho vha u ṱalutshedza na u saukanya nḓila dzine vhaṅwali vha vhanna vha ḓirama dza Tshivenḓa vha shumisa ngadzo nyambedzano u bveledza vhaanewa vha vhafumakadzi uri hu ṱuṱuwedzwe vhadzulapo u vha sasaladza na u vha sathula hune vha ḓiwana vhe hone zwitshavhani. Language flux : the decline in the use of taboos regarding pregnancy the birth among vhaVenḓa from a critical language awareness perspective

Muhwasane, Mutshinyani Mercy 01 1900 (has links)
Text has abstracts in English and Tshivenḓa / The purpose of this study was to investigate how language used in the past was lost with regard to pregnant women, as well as the rituals meant to be followed when a woman is pregnant until child-birth. This study compared the language use of modern times and of the past with regard to taboos during pregnancy and birth. The components that the researcher investigated embrace how a pregnant woman should handle herself, taboos that must be followed by pregnant women and the infants, fortification and procedures which follow when the ceremony of the baby is done and language development from pregnancy and child birth. In this study, the researcher applied the Critical Language Awareness (CLA), Ethnography of Communication and Ethnopragmatics models to best explain the Vhavenḓa cultural practices and discourse in relation to child-aligned language with regards to pregnancy, child-birth and anything associated with a newborn child. Regarding research design, the researcher chose qualitative-ethnography research design because it is more exploratory as it deals with human beings and the environment in which they live. A qualitative research method was utilised in this study. The population was Vhavenḓa elderly women who are knowledgeable about taboos pertaining to pregnancy and childbirth. In this study, purposive and snowball sampling techniques were appropriate since the researcher used her judgement to and snowball sampling were used to sample information from people who have knowledge of the Tshivenḓa language and culture to establish if there is a difference between the language used today and that used in the past. On the subject of data collection tools, the researcher collected qualitative primary data with the aid of interviews and interviews from the social groups including youth, elders, nurses and doctors from various natural research settings in the Vhembe District. Ultimately, the researcher identified various themes and concepts which emanated from the data collection process in line with analytical comparison methods, namely, method of agreement and method of difference. From the research, it was discovered that the Tshivenḓa culture is being undermined and the Western culture is being preferred in modern times. These changes came about when Western and Christian ways of doing things were v followed and African customs were abandoned. Furthermore, this research uncovered that the Tshivenḓa language is being lost while looking at the period from pregnancy until the birth of a child into the world. Most importantly, this research brought forth the knowledge of language used in pregnancy that has been lost; including medicines that are no longer used for purposes of curing during pregnancy, child-birth and the raising of a newborn. / Ngudo ino yo ḓitika kha u sengulusa uri luambo zwe lwa vha lu tshi shumiswa zwone kale lwo ngalangala zwo livhiswa kha muimana u swika a tshi vhofholowa. The role of public service broadcasting in South African education : Phalaphala FM as a case study

Netshitomboni, Rabelani Lusani. 06 1900 (has links)
Dissertation / This study investigates the role of radio in South African education, with Phalaphala FM as a case study. The aim was to investigate the extent to which Phalaphala FM's programmes include educational material and the extent to which the respondents listen to Phalaphala FM to satisfy their educational needs. Phalaphala FM as a regional radio station predominantly serves rural listeners, as they often do not have access to alternative forms of media. The theoretical point of departure is the uses and gratifications with its emphasis on the active audience concept. Content analysis of Phalaphala FM' s programme schedule was conducted to determine the amount of educational material. Focus group interviews and survey research were used to determine the respondents' media usage patterns. The results indicate that entertainment programmes are given more time on Phalaphala FM and that the respondents prefer entertainment programmes, to informational and educational programmes. / Educational Studies / M.A. (Communication)

Based on the specific historical-geographic contexts of the cities of Londrina/PR and Ribeirão Preto/SP, it seeks to highlight the set of changes underlying the structure of land ownership associated with the expansion of the investment capacity of different agents through the through the creation of increasingly sophisticated mechanisms and instruments to control parcels of urban land and entire sectors of these cities. It considers the gradual control of urban land and the command of the structuring moments of the cities in their interface with the real estate valuation vectors and the increasing socio-spatial differentiation characterizing the way in which the real estate production extends the extension of the bases of incidence of land rents, promoting a increasingly selective and differentiated production of housing spaces in these cities. We demonstrate how these mediations with the local scale are fundamental to qualify the debate on the ways of appropriating wealth from the real estate activity that tends to escape from a local valorization circuit and starts to incorporate financial contents. We show, therefore, that the dissemination of the financial logic through the Real Estate Receivable... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Doutor
