Benefits and drawbacks of conducting journalism over web3 : An overview on transparency, security and revenue.

Beig Mohammadi, Nima, Wozniak Lopez, Niklas January 2023 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the benefits and drawbacks of conducting journalism over web3 in the aspects of transparency, security and revenue model. Although there currently exist numerous studies on web3 and journalism, no one provides a concise overview on the topic linking these technologies to journalism. As a commissioned work, and to fill the academic gap found in the topic, qualitative research was carried out, mainly looking at published academic studies on the related topics, as well as to real-life projects that have implemented web3 technologies for different projects. The study found some relevant benefits of using web3 technologies, such as a higher degree of transparency, the ensured security against file corruption, as well as the savings implied when removing 3rd party institutions. However, some drawbacks include the unavoidable trade-off in transparency and privacy, some recent security threats against smart contracts as well as the volatility of maintenance fees. The study contributes to the development of web3 applications by highlighting the present challenges web3 faces currently, and for journalists considering taking advantage of this revolutionary technology by providing the reader with a brief overview of the current benefits and challenges that can affect the user.

Edlund, Rasmus, Håkansson, David January 2022 (has links)

Multiple Futures, Diverse Paths : A Study of How Vietnamese Blockchain Professionals Imagine, Enact andNegotiate Futures

Nordgren, Ossian January 2023 (has links)
This thesis dives into the future imaginaries of blockchain professionals in Hanoi and Saigon. Looking at sites of futures enactment, and constant negotiations around an emerging technology, economy, and start-up ecology. The blockchain industry has risen to prominence in the socio-economic and technological imaginary of geeks, financial speculators, and states around the globe. In this thesis, I investigate a hitherto underexplored context of technological imagination. Based on physical and digital ethnographic fieldwork among blockchain professionals in Hanoi and Saigon and through an amalgamated theoretical lens with nodes in the anthropology of future imaginaries, emerging technologies, digital materiality, and anthropological theories of value, I set out to map and critically engage with the modes by which professionals in and around the Vietnamese blockchain industry imagine the future. These future imaginaries appear not only in speculative, predictive, and hopeful proclamation but too in present enactment; thus, doings in real time become crucial in this investigation. Technologies of imagination often deviate in form and teleology, so consequently, processual negotiations are continually unfolding. Convoluted alliances within actors are often placed at odds, or in line, with broader imaginaries predicated on different levels of social scale. These spaces between imagined future and enacted reality, along with how these are negotiated amongst, ultimately provide complex embedded contexts through which socio-technical assemblages, conceptualizations of value, and emerging phenomena can better be known in ways beyond techno-solutionist or -determinist narratives and critiques of multiple futures.

Kreatörers acceptans av decentraliserade musikplattformar

Hedlund, Isak, Lundström Brignoli, Adrian January 2023 (has links)
Music streaming is growing in popularity on a daily basis. This type of medium has made listening to music more accessible to its users. Discussions regarding tough working conditions for the creators that bring value to the platforms are becoming more common. Creators tend to get low compensation and insufficient data regarding its listeners. In regards to the growing interest with Web3 technology, discussions are being held about decentralized music platforms potential of being an alternative to the traditional streaming platforms. It’s within this field the study aims to shed some light in regards to the acceptance creators have toward this alternative way of distributing music. With regards to the theoretical framework TAM (Technology acceptance model), a model was constructed. In order to evaluate this model a survey was conducted. The data collected was then used to perform a univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. These were possible with the help of frequency tables, Spearmans correlation coefficient as well as PLS-SEM tools. The results brought light to several possible problem areas, amongst these the validity of the questionnaire, but also the adequacy of the theoretical framework with regards to the a type of system the study actually concerns itself with. It was, however, clear that the creators’ actual use of the platform was a direct product of their intention to use it. This intention was a result of their attitude towards the platform, which in turn depended on the usefulness the creator perceived the platform to generate.

A decentralized Git version controlsystem : A proposed architecture and evaluation of decentralized Git using DAG-based distributed ledgers

Habib, Christian, Ayoub, Ilian January 2022 (has links)
This thesis proposes an implementation for a decentralized version of the Git version controlsystem. This is achieved using a simple distributed DAG ledger. The thesis analyzeshow the decentralization of Git affects security. Use and misuse cases are used to compareand evaluate conventional Git web services and a decentralized version of Git. Theproposed method for managing the state of the Git project is described as a voting systemwhere participants in a Git project vote on changes to be made. The security evaluationfound that the removal of privileged roles in the Git version control system, mitigated thepossibility of malicious maintainers taking over the project. However, with the introductionof the DAG ledger and the decentralization, the possibility of a malicious actor takingover the network using Sybil attack arises, which in turn could cause the same issues as amalicious maintainer.

Just DAO It : Analysing the Shifts in Types of Capital Prioritised by the Most Active Members of a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (Dao) Within the First Year of Its Creation

Salb, Sorrel January 2022 (has links)
The concept of Web3 is increasingly entering into mainstream discourses. With many terming 2021 the ‘year of NFTs’ (non-fungible tokens), 2022 has been labelled as the ‘year of DAOs’ within the Web3 ecosystem. Decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs) are groups that come together as a result of a specific purpose or interest and pursue their collective goals through leveraging Web3 technologies and governing over a shared treasury. Curious about these trends, I joined a community with a music, creative expression, and culture focus which had plans to become a DAO. A few months into being a member of this community, I was hired to join the community’s Core Team. While there have been a few articles published on the topic of DAOs, none focus specifically on what members of these DAOs value and how these priorities change over time. Utilising my unique perspective of being deeply involved in a DAO as a Core Team member, this thesis addresses this gap through an autoethnographic analysis of the shifting priorities of the most active members over the course of ten months within the first year of the community/ DAO being established. Bourdieu’s lens of different types of capital, together with a more modern extension of e-capital, and field theory are applied. The analysis reveals trends in the types of capital that are most valued during different phases of development of the community/ DAO being examined and how these are linked to specific milestone events that occur.

What is the ART of ADHD SoMe Acting : and how is it artistically relevant for everyone to know?

Lindman, Alexander January 2023 (has links)
During my master program in acting 2021-23 at Stockholm University of the Arts I coined the term deneurotypicalize and a definition of art as ART to guide my now and future work of trying to deneurotypicalize acting technique and understand what the ART of the SoMe Actor might be and do and and if there is or should be a difference between a neurotypical and neurodiverse way of applying oneself and communicate with said audience on said platform(s)? This all resulted in over 150 pages of written words, and a great deal more written documentation; a performance lecture on the 2nd of May 2023 with a Q&amp;A, several short films and Social Media interactions, 3 Surveys about ADHD-acting and art, 3 events on Scenkonstbiennalen (2022); and this master thesis and a research catalogue page with a more general documentation, too. ADHD, ART, Social Media and acting is more connected than I first realised, maybe because ADHD-actors have an affinity for ARTing which can be, and not be, an asset during ARTistic-processes. Lots of further research is needed, and in larger quantities. The ADHD relation to the arts might seem obvious because the out of the box thinking, hyperfocus, hyperfixation and only being able to follow your strongest passions and interests but it can also be because the rest of the society isn’t built for ARTing or ADHD-people which makes the field of arts so alluring. And maybe more often than we’d like to admit: also a very all consuming — especially if all the ARTistic-processes are based upon neurotypical standards — energy draining (and worst case scenario a death) trap. / <p>Since this is an artistic work there was an IRL examination of my performance lecture on the second of May 2023 and also an examination of this master thesis of 127 pages on the 26th of May 2023 that both were passed by Ulrika Malmgren. And, also a research catalouge page https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/1398260/1398261 that will be published at the same time as this thesis: all three is a part of Alexander Lindman's IDP at Stockholm University of the Arts. All interlinked; all stand alone.</p>
