Os sentidos de futuro para jovens negras: pelos caminhos do Capão Redondo e Jardim Ângela periferia paulistana / Senses of Future for Young Black Women: In the Track of Capão Redondo and Jardim Ângela in the city of São Paulo

Mendes, Carlos Eduardo 23 May 2014 (has links)
Esperamos que este trabalho tenha podido colaborar com a psicologia social, mas principalmente, tenha colaborado, de alguma forma, com o futuro das juventudes que se expressam na região do Capão Redondo e do Jardim Ângela / The senses of future given by young Black women from the districts of Capão Redondo and Jardim Ângela, outskirt of the city of São Paulo, are the ambitioned theme of this work. How they can have a sense of future when the statistics demonstrate: they live in an area traditionally affected by massacres from death squads; they live in an area where drug dealers do business besides the police station; they live in an area where some police officers are as much feared as the criminals. They live in an area where the homicide is the major cause of mortality of young male Black people . They live in an area where they are the last in the social mobility and in the chance of employment. However, they keep struggling for life. The research, therefore, aimed to listen to these young women, it was based in a qualitative approach, considering a method that brings their experiences throughout their life trajectories, as well as their projections towards a forthcoming period in their lives. Exploring these young womens senses of future revealed their strategies to affront and to feel acknowledged before the historic process of social humiliation in which the Black population has been living particularly in the case of Capão Redondo and Jardim Ângela. Three expressions of their sense of future came up: the first one involved the denial that they would have a future; the second one was the projection of a future with another person in a love relationship; the third one was built as life projects, be that a professional one, a cultural one or a political one. We hope this piece of work might have contributed to the Social Psychology, but mostly to the future of the youth manifested in the area of Capão Redondo and Jardim Ângela

Children and gambling : attitudes, behaviour, harm prevention and regulatory responses

Malgorzata, Anna Carran January 2015 (has links)
Gambling constitutes an inherent part of British cultural landscape but due to its potential to cause significant detriments it remains controversial. The Gambling Act 2005 liberalised the UK gambling industry and created an environment where commercial gambling, although regulated, can be offered within a relatively free market setting and its consumption can be stimulated by advertising. The task of the law is to provide a framework where the need for customer choice, a flourishing market, and the respect for private liberties can be adequately balanced with the duty to protect vulnerable individuals such as minors. The Gambling Act has been positioned as containing sufficient protective measures to prevent minors from being harmed by gambling but there is still a relative paucity of research that focuses specifically on how this regime affects this age group. This thesis fills some of the gaps by analysing whether the existing legal and regulatory framework reconciled the conflicting priorities adequately. It uniquely combines legal doctrinal analysis with empirical evidence collected from a sample of British pupils to expose that the liberalisation of gambling has brought severe limitations on protecting minors that are not sufficiently counterbalanced by existing measures. This thesis demonstrates that the legal definition of prohibited gambling does not incorporate all activities that may lead to gambling-related harm. While the age verification measures adopted by online gambling providers appear to be successful, young people continue to have easy access to gambling in land-based venues and are exposed to significant volumes of gambling advertising that appeals to them but these factors are not sufficiently compensated by any holistic regulatory strategy. However, the thesis indicates that the correlation between fun and real gambling games should not be attributed to overlaps in minor's motivations for engaging in either form or to minors' lack of accurate differentiation between them.

A study of young female attitude to the company Gina Tricot

JIRESKOG, SOFIA, JIRESKOG, SOFIA January 2010 (has links)
The competition today is fierce in the fashion business. Several large players are fighting to attract customers and a wide range, quick deliveries and ability to effectively meet the demand is of great importance. Progress and globalization has made it easy for individuals to find information. Consumers can compare prices, ranges and other things at home at the Internet. Nowadays people do not only pick garments because of their function or quality but because they symbolize a certain interest, life style and other factors. A costumer’s view of different brands is not always affected by the company but also by other phenomena. Blogs, sites like pricerunner and other interaction is examples of such things the companies cannot control. In our study we investigate young female consumers’ attitudes to see what kind of buyer’s behavior it leads to. Questions we work with are for example what kind of factors costumers favors when she’s purchasing clothing. It’s important for companies to know their target group well and to know their wishes and needs. We explore the priorities of consumers and if they are for example a reasonable price, good quality and fit or how the garments have been manufactured. We focus our study on one segment in Gina Tricots target group, young girls between 14-24 years. Our intention is to investigate, describe and analyze which important elements are included in the process between Gina Tricot and their customers to achieve a positive response? To be able to do this we choose to connect two further questions.•Which important elements does the consumers find particularly interesting?•What parts in the marketing mix does Gina Tricot focus on primarily?By collecting information and implement a market survey are we able to answer our questions. Our study shows that the two factors young female customers’ favors the most is the garments quality and a reasonable price. In our chosen segment many respondents’ associates Gina Tricot and their concept with expressions like “cheap”, “young” and “fast fashion”. A lot of the respondents think that the Company quickly responds to new trends. Gina Tricot states that their main focus is on price, quality and fit. The Company’s marketing strategy is based on recognition. The black and white commercials with a smiling girl are well known. The majority of our respondents state that they have seen the Gina Tricot commercial on for instance television and in newspapers.

Program: Butikschefsutbildningen

Suicidal ideation in emerging and young adults: Latent profile analysis of risk and protective factors in a nationally representative sample

Love, Heather January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / School of Family Studies and Human Services / Jared A. Durtschi / Each year in the United States, 40,000 individuals die by suicide, 7,000 of whom are young adults between the ages of 25-34. For every death, it is estimated that another 25 suicide attempts are made and that over 8% of young adults experience thoughts of suicide each year. Suicide rates are climbing, but identification of protective factors to reduce suicide risk remains elusive. Using a sample of 4,208 young adults from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, a latent profile analysis was used to test the number of profiles that best fit the data based on indicators that were hypothesized to be risk or protective features, and those profiles were analyzed using logistic regression to assess suicide risk. Hypothesized protective indicators included parent and romantic relationship quality, parental satisfaction, job satisfaction, and religiosity. Hypothesized risk indicators included parental demands, depressive symptoms, job demands, isolation, alcohol use, and adverse childhood experiences. A four-profile solution was optimal for this data and yielded four distinct profiles named: Satisfied with Life (n = 2,442), Relationship Stress (n = 669), Demanding Jobs (n = 658), and Challenging Childhood (n = 427). Individuals in the Satisfied with Life profile reported positive relationship quality with parents, partners, and children, and low depressive symptoms, isolation, and adverse childhood experiences. This profile was associated with a 60% decrease in risk for suicidal ideation. Participants in the Relationship Stress profile reported low relationship satisfaction, lack of confidence that their romantic relationship was going to be permanent, and high alcohol consumption. Individuals in this profile were 104% more likely to experience suicidal ideation compared to those not in this profile. The Demanding Jobs profile included individuals who felt their work interfered with their family time, and vice versa, but still had moderately high satisfaction in each area. This profile was not significantly associated with suicidal ideation. The final profile, Challenging Childhood, included individuals who reported low quality of relationships with their parents, high levels of isolation and depressive symptoms, and significantly higher adverse childhood experiences than other individuals in this sample. Individuals in this profile were associated with 192% increase in risk for suicidal ideation than those not in this profile. The results of this study underscore the importance of positive relationships as a protective factor against suicide, and provide new information about how job satisfaction and demands can also serve as protective features. Therapeutic interventions that address improving social support, coping with traumatic events, and decreasing alcohol consumption are recommended to decrease suicidal thoughts.

The Future is Female : A Study of Young Chinese Women's Behavior towards Luxury goods

Holm, Joanna, Green, Sofia January 2012 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose with this paper is to improve the understanding for companies on what influences female Chinese consumers in the age 20-25 year old to buy luxury goods. Research question: What behaviors do 20-25 year old Chinese women consumers have in relationship to luxury goods? Method: The study is mainly consisting of a quantitative web-survey that consists of 100 respondents. The survey was addressed to young women that came from China, in the ages 20-25 year old. It was of interest to get answers both from young women that are luxury consumers and from those who are not, in order to get a hint of how they relate to luxury goods in general. As a complement to the survey, a qualitative focus group interview was made with five young Chinese women in the age 22-24 year old. Theory: The theoretical framework includes theories about; luxury, reference group, family, roles and status, motivation, attitudes and beliefs and the buyer decision process. Conclusion: The results show that young Chinese women’s consumer behavior is in some aspect in the process of change. For example, they now want to stand out, but subconsciously they still act upon what earlier theories have claimed, to be like everyone else, because it is firmly rooted in their behaviors. This shows that they are in the process of a behavioral change towards acting more individualistic. Young Chinese women's consumer behavior is characterized by the fact that they have a positive attitude towards buying more luxury goods in the future, both for personal reasons but also because it will help their career and make them seem more professional. Although, they consider there to be some risks with buying luxury goods, both social and economic. Concerning the buyer decision process they research about the product, either by reading magazines looking on the Internet or talking to their friends. Today almost every purchase, regarding luxury, is planned and often based on personal opinions but sometimes with the regards of others opinions, like friends and family. / Program: Master in Fashion Management with specialisation in Fashion Marketing and Retailing

Direitos maternos: uma perspectiva possível dos direitos humanos para o suporte social à maternidade / Maternal rights: a rights perspective can human social support for maternity

Mattar, Laura Davis 24 March 2011 (has links)
Despite the changes in recent decades, especially due to the massive entry of women into the labor market, they are still responsible for the work of care, which is the social dimension of reproduction. They are, for that reason, discriminated and have the exercise of their human rights limited. Objectives - The main objective of this study was to assess the pertinence of proposing the recognition of a new category of rights for women who are mothers, able to provide the social support necessary for motherhood. Methods - This is a qualitative empirical study, conducted with young mothers with their children, who live in a private, nonprofit institution, whose mission is to recover the citizenship and to rebuild the selfesteem of young mothers living in extremely vulnerable situations. After the approval of the research project by the Commission for Ethical Research, an ethnographic observation was conducted in the institution. Eight semi-structured interviews were done with the young women and institutional documents were verified. Data were analyzed in view of a set of a priori and a posteriori categories, which were interpreted in the light of the theoretical framework adopted. Results The documental analysis of the Law describe the human rights of women established in national and international regulations, as well as feminist critical theories of law. The results of the empirical research, by its turn, indicate that the institution, despite some limitations, offers the necessary social support for motherhood and is capable of breaking the vicious cycle of poverty, vulnerability and violence that young women experienced in their lives. Conclusions - The analysis of results allows the proposition of a new category of human rights, hereby called \'maternal rights\', which are composed of reproductive rights, housing rights, right to work and to income and, finally, sexual rights. Together, once guaranteed, they can ensure that the experience of motherhood will be lived with dignity, thereby promoting gender equality and non-discrimination against women
