Ce travail de recherche s’attache à analyser la visibilité des lesbiennes au cinéma américain et dans les séries télévisées et les web-séries américaines. Bien qu’ayant été globalement invisibles ou mal représentées dans le cinéma classique hollywoodien, elles apparaissent de plus en plus fréquemment sur le petit et le grand écran. Toutefois, cette visibilité est construite à partir d’un certain nombre de normes, privilégiant donc une image particulière des lesbiennes à travers notamment la figure de la lesbienne féminine. En outre, cette visibilité repose sur des stratégies de réappropriations et d’emprunts qui visent à « queeriser » les représentations existantes, et, possiblement, à créer un regard lesbien / The purpose of this work is to investigate lesbian visibility in American cinema, TV series and web series. Although lesbians have remained broadly invisible or misrepresented in classical Hollywood Cinema, they now increasingly appear on both the big screen and the small screen. However, this visibility is shaped according to a precise set of norms, thus favoring a specific image of lesbians, particularly through the figure of the feminine lesbian. Furthermore, this visibility is grounded on strategies of reappropriation and borrowings aiming to queer existing representations, and, possibly, to create a lesbian look

A qualidade dos sistemas de sinalização viária é avaliada, tradicionalmente, com base nas características físicas de seus elementos, bem como na durabilidade e conservação dos materiais que os compõem. Em alguns casos, a verificação do atendimento aos critérios técnicos de projeto é também considerada. Depreende-se, daí, que a avaliação estrutural dos elementos de sinalização seja integralmente contemplada por meio dessas avaliações. Por outro lado, a eficácia da sinalização não é necessariamente garantida pela integridade física ou estrutural dos elementos. Por se tratar de um sistema de comunicação com o usuário, que transmite informações que influenciarão as ações dos motoristas na tarefa de guiar o veículo no trânsito, é necessário, também, avaliar o desempenho funcional dos elementos de sinalização. Em outras palavras, o funcionamento e a eficiência da sinalização são tão importantes quanto a situação de seu estado físico. Esta pesquisa descreve aspectos a serem considerados na avaliação de desempenho funcional dos sinais de trânsito com base na observação no campo e na abordagem dos fatores que afetam as medidas de desempenho, conduzindo, em rodovias federais brasileiras concedidas à iniciativa privada, dois experimentos ainda pouco conhecidos no país. O primeiro experimento avaliou o desempenho de um conjunto de placas de sinalização de regulamentação de velocidade máxima permitida, aplicadas em configurações diversas. As medidas de desempenho escolhidas foram a distância de detecção e a distância de legibilidade da sinalização, que foram medidas por meio de observadores em curso na rodovia, em condições reais de operação. O segundo experimento avaliou o desempenho de um conjunto de demarcações no pavimento de uma rodovia também em condições reais de operação. A medida de desempenho foi a retorrefletividade da sinalização horizontal sob tráfego real. A pesquisa inova ao utilizar o conceito de planejamento de experimentos, otimizando o modelo estatístico a ser estimado com menos execuções experimentais. / The quality of the traffic signs systems is traditionally assessed based on physical characteristics of their elements, as well as the durability and conservation of materials they are made of. In some cases, the verification of compliance with the technical criteria for design is also considered. Therefore, it appears that the structural assessment of sign elements is fully covered by these evaluations. Moreover, the effectiveness of traffic signs is not necessarily guaranteed by physical or structural health of the elements. Once the traffic signs comprise a system of communication with the users, which gives information that will influence the actions of the drivers on the task of guiding the vehicle in traffic flow, it is also necessary to evaluate the functional performance of the traffic signs. In other words, the operation and efficiency of traffic signs are as important as their physical condition. This research describes some aspects to take into account in the evaluation of performance of traffic signs based on observation in the field and in the approach of the factors affecting performance measures, carrying out in Brazilian federal highways under concession to the private sector two experiments still little known in this country. The first experiment evaluated the performance of a set of speed limit signs applied in different configurations. The chosen performance measures were the detection distance and the legibility distance of the signs, which were measured by subjects driving on open road under real operating conditions. The second experiment evaluated the performance of a set of pavement markings also on open road under real operating conditions. The performance measure was the retroreflectivity of the pavement markings under real traffic. The survey breaks new ground by using the concept of optimal design of experiments, optimizing the statistical model to be estimated with fewer experimental runs.

En principio, el sujeto estético presente en esas manifestaciones culturales, al buscar que sus voces sean escuchadas y visibles también fuera de su espacio de actuación, promueve la desestabilización de algunos hilos que constituyen la ideología hegemónica, al mismo tiempo que saluda nuevas formas de interacción social, y así, para la constitución de una sociedad basada en la alteridad. Es importante resaltar que ese este estudio no se enfocó en nombres o grupos específicos de funk o rap, y si en la búsqueda por discursos oriundos de esos movimientos culturales y también en discursos sobre los mismos que ratifiquen o no el objetivo propuesto. Este trabajo fue construido con el respaldo teórico de los estudios realizados por el Circulo de Bakhtin, principalmente los que recaen sobre los conceptos de sujeto, dialogía, carnavalización, así como los estudios de Bakhtin sobre cultura popular y fiesta. En general, se dialogó con Callois, Zumthor, Certau, Hall, Canclini, Martín-Barbero entre otros, con la finalidad de verificar la manera por la cual las voces de esos sujetos son valorizadas dentro y fuera de los barrios pobres por medio del embate ideológico ocurrido en y por la palabra ambivalente. / In the midst of a society ruled by an official ideology woven by exclusive ideology and supported by the constitution of the global identity to the detriment of the otherness, this research aims to examine, through a discursive analysis of the constitution of the ethical and aesthetic subjects present in funk and the national rap, seen as a contemporary movement of urban popular culture, the quest for their voices to be heard beyond their social horizons. It seems, the aesthetic subject present in these cultural events, to get their voices audible and visible also outside their sphere of action, promotes the destabilization of some wires that constitute the hegemonic ideology, while waving to new forms of social interaction and thus for the creation of a society founded by the otherness. Importantly, this study did not focus on names or specific groups of funk or rap, but in the search for speeches arising from these cultural movements and also in speeches on them to ratify or not the proposed objective. This research was built with the support of theoretical studies by the Bakhtin Circle, especially those that fall on the subject concepts, dialogy, carnivalization, as well as studies of Bakhtin on popular culture and party. In general, there are dialogs with Caillois, Zumthor, Certeau, Hall, Canclini, Martin-Barbero among others, in order to verify the way in which the voices of these individuals are valued in and out of the slum, through the ideological clash occurred in and by the word ambivalent. / Em meio a uma sociedade regida por uma ideologia oficial tecida por ideologias excludentes e respaldadas pela constituição da identidade global em detrimento da alteridade, esta pesquisa se propõe a estudar, por meio de uma análise discursiva a constituição dos sujeitos ético-estéticos presentes no funk e no rap nacional, entendidos como um movimento contemporâneo de cultura popular urbana, a busca para que suas vozes sejam ouvidas para além de seus horizontes sociais. Ao que tudo indica, o sujeito estético presente nessas manifestações culturais, ao buscar que suas vozes sejam audíveis e visíveis também fora do seu espaço de atuação, promove a desestabilização de alguns fios que constituem a ideologia hegemônica, ao mesmo tempo em que acena para novas formas de interação social e, assim, para a constituição de uma sociedade alicerçada pela alteridade. É importante ressaltar que esse estudo não se centrou em nomes ou grupos específicos de funk ou rap, mas na busca por discursos oriundos desses movimentos culturais e também em discursos sobre os mesmos que ratificassem ou não o objetivo proposto. My field has its base on Sao Carlos’s city, located in the central area of the state, and focus on the use of seeking applications for loving and sexual men partners between 18 and 60 ages. Considering Queer Theory, Brazilian studies of sexuality and other searches about digital medias, I take as hypothesis that the dynamic of secret that involves the homoerotic relations in this area has the objective to preserve the security in spaces such as family and work. Associating the ethnography work to the interviews, quantitative data and sources about use of digital medias, I look for understanding how the secret is connected to the interurban mobility, geographic location, life’s style, education, income and profession. Taking into consideration the social and technical context of medias reception, I analyze which displacements and repertory’s rearrangements to qualify the desire have been possible by means of the conventions and codes flow digitally mediated. / Esta dissertação deseja compreender o uso estratégico que homens do interior de São Paulo fazem das mídias digitais móveis visando criar relações com outros homens em segredo. Meu campo toma como base a cidade de São Carlos, localizada na região central do Estado, e foca no uso de aplicativos de busca para parceiros amorosos e sexuais por homens com idade entre 18 e 60 anos. Em diálogo com a Teoria Queer, os estudos brasileiros sobre sexualidade e outras pesquisas sobre mídias digitais, parto da hipótese de que a dinâmica do segredo que envolve as relações homoeróticas nessa região tem como objetivo manter a segurança nos espaços da família e do trabalho. Associando o trabalho etnográfico às entrevistas, aos dados quantitativos e às fontes sobre o uso das mídias digitais, procuro compreender como o segredo se liga ao acesso à mobilidade interurbana, à localização geográfica, ao estilo de vida, à educação, à renda, à profissão. Considerando o contexto sociotécnico de recepção das mídias, analiso quais deslocamentos e rearranjos no repertório para qualificar o desejo foram possíveis mediante o fluxo de convenções e códigos digitalmente mediados.

Dans le cadre des actuels débats autour du rôle et des pouvoirs des images, notre étude explore, à la lumière de la recherche du philosophe Michel Foucault, l'étendue et les fonctionnements discontinus, et parfois conflictuels, des rapports entre visibilités et pratiques d'images. La première partie de notre travail analyse le rôle des descriptions et évocations picturales des ouvrages du philosophe que l'on peut associer à l'analyse archéologique, s'attachant à montrer la singularité du rapport entre les images et l'émergence historique de différentes « modalités de voir» dans leurs articulations aux pratiques discursives. À l'appui des textes et manuscrits simultanés ou immédiatement successifs à l'élaboration de L'archéologie du savoir, la deuxième partie de la recherche valorise les défis que la question du traitement du visible et des images a lancés à la mise en place d'un champ de cohérence pour l'analyse discursive. Avec une attention particulière portée aux cours inédits sur la peinture du Quattrocento et aux projets sur la peinture de Manet, l'étude retrace les tentatives du philosophe vouées à considérer les dispositions culturelles de la visibilité et les configurations historiques de la présentation visuelle comme des dimensions articulées historiquement par des modalités différentes. La troisième partie analyse, enfin, les expérimentations foucaldiennes concernant des pratiques de l'image, présentant, à partir des conditions d'émergence de la notion d'attitude critique, les enjeux politiques de la réflexion autour des rapports entre visibilité et modernité picturale. / In the framework of the present ongoing debates about the role and power of images, our work aims to explore the extent and the discontinuous characterizing the historical relations between visibilities and practices of images in the light of the research of the philosopher Michel Foucault. The first part analyzes the role of descriptions and pictorial evocations in Foucault's works which can be associated with archaeological analysis; its objective is to show the singular relation between images and the historical emergence of different “modalities of seeing” in their articulations with discursive practices. Thanks to the analysis of texts and unedited manuscripts on painting, the second part points out the discrepancies between the visual dimension of Foucauldian research and the methodological elaboration of the archaeological discourse, with its claim to disclose a field of coherence for the discursive analysis. In light of the debates between art history's methodology and philosophy in France at the time, our analysis presents this apparently marginal section of the research of Foucault as an attempt to consider the cultural dispositions of visibility and the historical configurations of visual presentation as differently articulated through historical modalities. The third part analyzes various Foucauldian experiments concerning image practices. Through the study of archival material, the political stakes of the Foucauldian reflection about pictorial modernity through the emergence of the notion of critique as attitude are presented.

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Chicanas gradually began to politically organize. Through a significant focus on the political life of Francisca Flores and the CFMN, this thesis analyzes the specific political organizing tools she and other Chicana feminist leaders used during the decade between 1970 and 1980. Rather than evaluate the success or failure of the organizations, it instead examines the political methods they used including individual leadership, coalition building, community engagement, and art. It attempts to demonstrate that prominent Chicana feminist activists such as Flores, NietoGomez of Las Hijas de Cuauhtémoc and later Encuentro Femenil, former Brown Beret Gloria Arellanes, and Los Angeles based artist Judy Baca all used these methods in specific ways in order to promote the visibility of Chicana feminism and their communities, which has had an enduring legacy for the movement. Through a comparative analysis of these methods, this thesis illustrates how each of these figures and organizations developed a Chicana feminist movement that balanced grassroots and national organizing with a conscious commitment to visibility of community, rooted in intersectional theory.

Esta tese propõe uma abordagem do livro ilustrado (em geral associado ao público infanto-juvenil) que considera as diferentes modalidades de relação entre a imagem e o texto verbal, bem como sua conexão indissociável com o suporte. O livro ilustrado é entendido como objeto estético, polissêmico, capaz de convocar a capacidade sensível do leitor, expandindo tanto sua noção de si como sua visão de mundo. Busca-se problematizar a especificidade desse gênero literário por meio da imbricação de categorias como as de visibilidade e legibilidade, pensadas a partir da reflexão de Vilém Flusser sobre o conflito entre a imagem e a palavra escrita ao longo do tempo. Discute-se também a linguagem do livro ilustrado à luz do pensamento de Giorgio Agamben e Gilles Deleuze, que preferem a noção de intensidade em vez de etapa cronológica para compreender a infância. O livro ilustrado é considerado um devir-criança (ou devir-outro) do autor e/ou ilustrador capaz de desestabilizar o leitor, fazendo aflorar sensações que reconfiguram modos de sentir e estar no mundo / This thesis proposes an approach to the picture book (that is usually associated with young readers) which considers the different modalities of relationship between the image and the written text as well as their non-dissociable connection with the support itself. The picture book is understood as an aesthetic and polysemic object that is able to engage the readers capacity for sensation, expanding his or her notion of self and worldview. There is an intention to problematize the specificity of this literary genre through the imbrication of categories such as visibility and legibility and Vilém Flussers reflection on the conflict between the image and the written word throughout time. This thesis also presents a discussion about the picture books way of communicating in light of the thinking of Giorgio Agamben and Gilles Deleuze, both of whom prefer the notion of intensity instead of chronological stage in order to comprehend childhood. The picture book is considered a process of becoming-child (or becoming-other) of the author and/or illustrator, which can destabilize the reader, making sensations surface and reshaping modes of feeling and being in the world

Being the largest expression of the cultural city of Barbalha, CearÃ, the Festa de Santo AntÃnio got, well, great visibility, which concentrates most of the political and cultural sector investments, especially with regard to their patrimony. Other events, such as celebrations of patron, which have structures in their festive designs rituals that remind us of the essential image of the Festa de Santo AntÃnio, highlighting, emblematically, the ritual sacrifice of the tree: select, cut, and the procession raising of the flag of the patron, the folk groups, among others, remain in the invisibility of these policies, as peripheries of the party chief. Thus, the dynamics of the visible / invisible (Merleau-Ponty, 1980), from the "confrontation" between centers and peripheries festive, providing momentary visibility and invisibility permanent, directed us to think of the municipality of Barbalha from three territories: SÃtios Santa Rosa, Cabeceiras e Riacho do Meio, their parties and their historical and geographical representativeness: the movement of bandits materialized in the cemetery of the shot (Alto do LeitÃo) SÃtio Santa Rosa, the strength of traditionalism with devotional Penitentes IrmÃos da Cruz do SÃtio Cabecerias, icons and environmental protection of the Chapada do Araripe with Ecological Park of the Riacho do Meio. It is noted as justification that we canât consider the character of the asset visibility Festa de Santo AntÃnio as the main reason for the invisibility of other manifestations. The challenge on the agenda of this party-main spectacle, to find in other places, the party peripherals, ways to insert them in the processes of cultural appreciation, integrating the processes of historical constitution and memorial in the city. Methodologically, open interviews, semi-structured and projective instigate the subjects of locations, sometimes worked, to talk with their spaces, whether through questions and / or viewing a photographic mural on manifestations of patrimonialidade (POULOT, 2009), gestated for recognition and ownership of the asset by the subjects who experience and represent. Thus, the apprehension of the phenomena analyzed complies with the intent that the subjects involved (revelers) recognize themselves as transformers of their spatialities (MASSEY; KEYNES, 2004). The "symbolic games", representations, values, leisure, trespass, use of spaces, intertwined in the minds of the subjects from language broadcasts festive, like a fertile field for understanding social structures exposed there. The aim is then to understand the logic of the question sheet from the recognition of the individuals who practice it, as belonging to the place, in their lived world (Di Meo, 1996), through their everyday experiences, and among them, the parties. / Sendo a maior expressÃo cultural do municÃpio de Barbalha, CearÃ, a Festa de Santo AntÃnio adquiri, assim, grande visibilidade, da qual concentra a maior parte das polÃticas culturais e investimentos do setor, sobretudo no que diz respeito à sua patrimonializaÃÃo. As demais manifestaÃÃes, como as festas de padroeiro(a), que tÃm nas suas estruturas festivas, desenhos rituais que nos remetem à imagem essencial da Festa de Santo AntÃnio, destacando, emblematicamente, o sacrifÃcio ritual da Ãrvore: escolha, corte, cortejo e o hasteamento da bandeira do padroeiro; os grupos folclÃricos,dentre outros, mantÃm-se na invisibilidade destas polÃticas, como periferias da festa principal. Dessa forma, a dinÃmica do visÃvel/invisÃvel (MERLEAU-PONTY, 1980), a partir do âconfrontoâ entre as centralidades e as periferias festivas, constituindo visibilidades momentÃneas e invisibilidades permanentes, direcionou-nos a pensar o municÃpio de Barbalha, a partir de trÃs territÃrios: SÃtios Santa Rosa, Cabeceiras e Riacho do Meio, suas festas e suas representatividades histÃrico-geogrÃficas: o movimento do cangaÃo materializado no cemitÃrio dos fuzilados (Alto do LeitÃo) do SÃtio Santa Rosa, a forÃa do tradicionalismo devocional com os Penitentes IrmÃos da Cruz do SÃtio Cabeceiras, e os Ãcones da proteÃÃo ambiental da Chapada do Araripe com o Parque EcolÃgico do Riacho do Meio. Salienta-se como justificativa de que nÃo podemos considerar o carÃter de visibilidade patrimonial da Festa de Santo AntÃnio como o principal motivo da invisibilidade das demais manifestaÃÃes. O desafio em pauta parte desta festa-espetÃculo principal, para encontrar em outros espaÃos, perifÃricos à festa, formas de inseri-los nos processos culturais de valorizaÃÃo, integrando-os aos processos da constituiÃÃo histÃrica e memorial do municÃpio. Metodologicamente, entrevistas abertas, semi-estruturadas e projetivas instigam os sujeitos das localidades, ora trabalhadas, a dialogar com os seus espaÃos, seja atravÃs de perguntas e/ou na visualizaÃÃo de um mural fotogrÃfico sobre suas manifestaÃÃes de patrimonialidade (POULOT, 2009), gestada pelo reconhecimento e apropriaÃÃo do bem pelos sujeitos que o vivenciam e o representam. Assim, a apreensÃo dos fenÃmenos analisados cumpre com a intenÃÃo de que os sujeitos envolvidos (festeiros) se reconheÃam enquanto transformadores das suas espacialidades (Massey; Keynes, 2004). Os âjogos simbÃlicosâ, as representaÃÃes, os valores, o lazer, a transgressÃo, o uso dos espaÃos, interpenetram no imaginÃrio dos sujeitos a partir das transmissÃes da linguagem festiva, como um campo fÃrtil para se entender as estruturas sociais aà expostas. Busca-se, entÃo entender a lÃgica da questÃo patrimonial, a partir do reconhecimento dos sujeitos que o praticam, como pertencentes ao lugar, no seu mundo vivido (Di MÃo, 1996), por meio de suas experiÃncias cotidianas, e dentre elas, as festas.

A sequência de protestos em junho de 2013 sacudiu o cenário político brasileiro como um terremoto - foram manifestações que começavam e terminavam nas telas. Além de matéria-prima para imagens, as passeatas também como imagens sociais (dependem do olhar social) e itinerantes (para adquirir valor e significado), fundando uma nova visibilidade. Para apreender a dimensão desses eventos na instância da imagem ao vivo, foi analisada a edição especial do Jornal Nacional do dia 20 de junho daquele ano. Nos resultados, obtidos por meio da técnica da análise de conteúdo, é notório o adestramento do olhar que, insensível, olhou a multidão de uma perspectiva superior. / The series of protests in June 2013 has changed Brazilian political scenery in an abrupt way as an earthquake - the demonstrations began and ended on the television screens. More than base for images, the riots constitute social images (which depend on the social point of view) and are itinerant (to form value and meaning). To comprehend the dimension of these events in the context of instance of the live image, this work studies, by content analyses approach, the special edition of Jornal Nacional in the 20th June 2013. The results show that the point of view of the imagetic speech is cold, unsympathetic and arrogant towards the protesters.

O presente estudo aborda a visibilidade das revistas pertencentes ao Portal de Periódicos Científicos da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (PPCU/UFRGS). Questiona se os periódicos do PPCU possuem características que promovam a visibilidade. Analisa as características que promovem a visibilidade dos periódicos científicos eletrônicos do PPCU, sendo estas: a presença na Web, o acesso aberto, a buscabilidade, o idioma da publicação e a presença em fontes de informação. Caracteriza as revistas da Universidade. Verifica a buscabilidade dos títulos nos mecanismos de busca. Analisa a visibilidade na Internet através da presença nas fontes de informação nas quais estão presentes estas revistas. Classifica as fontes de informação nas quais estão presentes as revistas da Universidade. O referencial teórico aborda os temas: comunicação científica; periódicos científicos; visibilidade e buscabilidade; fontes de informação na Web; bases de dados bibliográficas; e acesso aberto. O estudo tem caráter descritivo e exploratório, combinando dados qualitativos e quantitativos. O corpus da pesquisa foi formado por 34 títulos. Coletaram-se as informações principais sobre as revistas, com ênfase nas características que promovem visibilidade. Foi constatado que as Ciências Humanas é a área que possui maior número de revistas na Universidade, 29,4% do total de publicações. O acesso aberto é adotado por todas as revistas da amostra. As revistas estão avaliadas em maior número nos estratos do Qualis B2 e B3, cerca de 42%. Mapeadas as fontes de informação, foi verificada a maior presença de periódicos na fonte de informação LAPTOC, seguida pela LATINDEX. Apesar da presença pouco expressiva em fontes de informação internacionais, concluiu-se que as revistas pertencentes ao PPCU buscam ampliar as características que promovem a sua visibilidade. Esta pesquisa também sugere uma série de novos estudos, aprofundando as análises, abordando outros temas ligados à visibilidade, em especial estudos bibliométricos. / This study addresses the visibility of journals belonging to the Web Portal of Scientific Journals of Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (PPCU/UFGRS). It discusses if the journals from PPCU have characteristics which promote visibility. It analyses the characteristics which promote visibility of scientific journals from the PPCU, which are: Web presence, open access, searchability, language of the publication and the presence in information sources. It characterises the journals of the University. It verifies the searchability of titles in search engines. It analyses the visibility on Internet through the presence in information sources in which those journals are present. It classifies the information sources in which the journals of the University are present. The theoretical reference addresses the following themes: scientific communication; scientific journals; visibility and searchability; information sources on Web; bibliographic databases and open access. The study is descriptive and exploratory, combining qualitative and quantitative data. The corpus of the research was composed by 34 titles. Essential information about the journals was collected, with emphasis on characteristics which promote visibility. It was found that Human Sciences is the area with the largest number of journals at the University, 29.4% of total publications. Open access is adopted by all journals in the sample. The journals are evaluated in larger numbers in the strata of Qualis B2 and B3, about 42%. Once the information sources had been mapped, the largest presence of journals was found at the information source LAPTOC, followed by LATINDEX. Despite the presence of limited significance in international information sources, it was found that the journals belonging to PPCU aim at widening the characteristics which promote their visibility. It suggests a string of new studies, deepening the analyses, addressing other themes related to visibility and, especially, bibliometric studies.
