Opening social participation initiatives aim to meet a yearning of the people themselves to be able to be integrated into the decision-making process, thus contributing to the construction of public and ensuring that their demands are heard and implemented policies. As well as the management of public policies, by the State, managers of social projects can use the strategy to involve the beneficiaries of these projects in the process of its preparation and execution. Besides the opportunity to influence decision-making personally exposing their priority needs and opining on what policies and actions to take, the participation of beneficiaries can help them to develop autonomy to continue these actions after completion of the projects. The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation has supported initiatives aimed at reducing inequalities and social inequities, and adopting social participation as a tool for empowerment. Among the projects supported by Fiocruz, the Community Communication Agency Manguinhos is a project that aims to involve the beneficiaries in its stages of design and development. In view of this, the objective of this research is to analyze how is the process of social participation in the Community Communication Agency Manguinhos project, supported by Fiocruz. A theoretical survey was conducted on the concept of social participation in the Brazilian context and on the social project management forms to identify the main characteristics of these elements in literature and subsequently carry out an empirical research on social participation in social projects. By analyzing the collected data it was possible to characterize the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and its relationship with the local communities where it is headquartered, describe the performance of the Social Cooperation Coordinator at Fiocruz and profile of the projects it supported, characterize the design Community Communication Agency of Manguinhos as to its structure and its actors, and finally, analyze the process of stakeholder participation in the Community Communication Agency Manguinhos project. The results revealed that social participation is a differential of this project, which from the time of its formulation, seeks to involve residents of the territory in discussions, decision-making processes and monitoring of the results / Discuss?es a respeito da participa??o social nas inst?ncias de constru??o das pol?ticas p?blicas, t?m se tornado cada vez mais frequentes nos cen?rios social e pol?tico do Brasil e do mundo.

Recent studies have suggested that participation in groups, solidarity and willingness to intervene for common good may have a positive effect on mental health of individuals and groups. This dissertation presents the results of piece of research conducted with elderly in in a small town in the South of Brazil. The aim was to investigate the association between depressive symptoms and social capital. It is a cross-sectional population-based study with 1.007 elderly people. Structured interviews were conducted at the household of the elders, people aged 60 or more years. Depressive symptoms were assessed by geriatric depression scale using the cuttoff of 11 points or higher. Social capital was measured by the collective efficacy scale and by a single item about participation in groups. Data analysis used Poisson Regression Method to obtain crude and adjusted prevalence ratios (PR). The sample consisted mostly of elder women (63%), caucasian (96%) and married (64%). Average income, age and years of schooling were 73 years old (DP=4), BR$ 1,836 (DP= 2,170) and 5 years (DP=4) respectively. After controlling of demographic, socioeconomic, behavioural and health related variables, participants who reported low collective efficacy in their place of residence had a prevalence of depressive symptoms twice as big than those reporting high efficacy (RP=1.40; IC95% 1.03 – 1.91; p<0.001). Similarly, elders who didn't participate on any group reported outcome prevalence about 64% higher than the ones who participated on one or more groups (RP=1.64; IC95% 1.27 – 2.12; p<0.001). The association reported here suggests that the creation and participation in networks and groups may be an important strategy to promote the mental health of elderly people.

Intrumentos de Políticas Públicas: um estudo da Câmara Regional do Alto Tietê do CONSEMA-SP / Public Policy Instruments: a study of the Alto Tietê Regional Chamber of CONSEMA-SP

Pimenta, Rodrigo Masteguim 30 June 2017 (has links)
Having been created to discuss and elaborate environmental policies for the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo in a local participatory basis, the Chamber has never been in full operation. This research, based on the Anglo-French literature of Public Policy Instruments, as well as on the Brazilian literature on Social Participation, aimed to identify the public policy instruments that were mobilized by the State to promote local participation within the scope of CONSEMA, and analyze their effects. To do so, a case study was developed. Through a chronology, covering the period from the creation of CONSEMA in 1983 to the creation of the Alto Tietê Regional Chamber in 2011, the study demonstrated the overlap of several instruments according to the interests of different actors. From this reading, we can consider that the inactivity of the Alto Tietê Regional Chamber is due to the fragility of the legal instruments on which it has been based, and also that the use of such instruments serves to deliberately postpone decision-making and manage the perennial conflicts between opposing political groups

The Study of Sinyi Realty Corporate Social Responsibility

Chang, Sheng-Ming 23 August 2010 (has links)
Abstract This research was to explore 1) the thought and the methods of Sinyi Realty¡¦s Corporate Social Responsibility 2) the intent and core concept in designing Sinyi Realty¡¦s Corporate Social Responsibility and 3) the everlasting strategy of promoting Sinyi Realty¡¦s Corporate Social Responsibility. Hopefully, this research can be a reference for enterprise and business managers to increase corporate social impact. Through seven profound interviews with seven real estate high-ranking executives, relevant quotations and logical inference there from, and my personal experiences and observations in the real estate field, I discovered that Sinyi Real Estate, from the beginning, did not really put particular emphasis on the domain of Corporate Social Responsibility. Instead, what Sinyi Real Estate did was just simply to solve or reduce social problems and insist on the principle of ¡§trust first, then profit¡¨, which virtually put the Corporate Social Responsibility into practice and it became one of the most respected model enterprises. Like all other enterprises, Sinyi Real Estate has had and will have its own difficulties and challenges to deal with in the past, in the present, and in the future (in the past, not being recognized by the mainstream; in the present, personal ideas can not match the goal of the corporation; and in the future, the concept is hard to be passed on) and needs to overcome all the difficulties and challenges one after another in order for Sinyi Real Estate to create new breakthroughs and grow stronger. The research discovered that Corporate Social Responsibility has a positive relationship to corporate everlasting development. Sinyi Real Estate can continuously work to reach the goal of ¡§make Sinyi Real Estate everlasting¡¨ and become the most valued enterprise in society by 1) inheriting and passing on Sinyi Realty¡¦s Corporate Social Responsibility 2) expanding service territory and market 3) enhancing the width and depth of sales 4) strengthening the influence of the Trade Association 5) constantly increasing the responsibility of relevant parties and 6) promoting the concept of green energy environmental impact. Economic, Social And Political Participation Of The Youth In Urban South-eastern Anatolia

Ozdemir, Caner 01 September 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This study aims to find out the patterns of economic, social and political participation of the youth in urban South-eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. Analyses of the data reveal that youth in the South Eastern Anatolia Region does not and cannot participate in various dimensions of the society. Youth in South-eastern Anatolia cannot participate into the labour market. There are too limited job opportunities in the region. On the other hand, working young people are prone to low quality working conditions. Young people also cannot participate into the social life in the public sphere. Social and economic pressures and lack of opportunities are limiting young people in a social life mainly in the private sphere within a closed community. Finally, youth in South-eastern Anatolia Region are keeping themselves away from political mechanisms. Political structure is not attracting young people because of the negative experiences that the people participated in politics having for years. One of the most important findings of the study is that different dimensions of participation namely participation in the labour market, participation in social life and political participation are dependent on each other. Another result is that both the level and experiences of youth participation are highly determined by the social characteristics such as gender, family background, education level and age.

Socialt och kulturellt deltagande hos kvinnor med utländsk bakgrund / Social and cultural participation among immigrant women

Muya, Josefin January 2015 (has links)
The background of this study is that previous studies have shown that the social and cultural participation of women born outside of Sweden is lower than for those born in Sweden. These studies have also shown that the health of these women is generally lower than for women born in Sweden. The purpose of this study is to evaluate which social and cultural activities women born outside Sweden involve themselves in, what meaning these activities hold for their personal well-being and how they themselves describe the experiences that have meaning in as far as their perception of participation is concerned. A qualitative method was used where data was collected through 8 semi-structured interviews conducted on women born outside Europe who were above the age of 18. A content analysis was used to analyze the material and the results showed that all participants were involved in social and cultural activities such as physical exercise, religious activities and social media. The participants believed that the activities promoted their health, physical and otherwise. The participants also indicated that factors such as language and culture influenced their participation. It was concluded that participation in social and cultural activities increases the participants’ well-being and that there exists factors especially language that affects women’s participation. From a Public Health perspective, it is important to focus on work that improves health which in turn promotes integration and not assimilation.

Identity and participation in social networking sites amongst pre-service elementary school teachers

Kimmons, Royce M. 08 October 2012 (has links)
Recent trends in social networking site (SNS) use amongst teachers have led to some alarming circumstances. Practicing and pre-service teachers have been fired or otherwise punished (e.g. suspension, licensure revocation, etc.) for a variety of offenses related to their SNS use, ranging from sinister to morally ambiguous offenses, and have been encouraged or required by school administrators, professors, and others in positions of power to use SNS in particular ways. Past research on the topic of SNS in education and SNS professionalism has focused on issues of implementation (e.g. how to use SNS to support learning) or utility (e.g. how to use SNS to successfully achieve career goals). Missing from this discussion, however, is an understanding of how teachers (and those preparing to become teachers) naturally come to participate in SNS, why they participate in the ways that they do, and how this use is related to their identity. This study seeks to fill a gap in the literature by understanding pre-service teachers’ uses of SNS in terms of previous experiences, cultural expectations, social benefits, connections to identity construction and maintenance, and how these uses and beliefs regarding SNS begin to change in response to professionalization processes. Grounded theory is employed to generate an explanatory construct, which I refer to as the Acceptable Identity Fragment (AIF). The AIF is then used to understand and illustrate issues surrounding SNS use in education. Major findings suggest that 1) pre-service teachers’ identities in SNS represent a fragment of their authentic identities, 2) pre-service teachers use various SNS differently in conjunction with each SNS’s embedded values and assumptions about identity, 3) SNS use raises various problematic issues surrounding identity and how pre-service teachers are perceived and judged as individuals (e.g. digital persistence, lateral surveillance, etc.), and 4) professionalization processes alter and restrict pre-service teachers’ ability and comfort to express themselves in SNS. These findings lead to discussion, implications, and recommendations on a variety of topics including the following: institutional uses of SNS in education, relationships between fragmented and authentic identities, SNS literacy development, and cultural issues of SNS use. / text
