Proposição de um modelo teórico de intenção de consumo colaborativo entre idades / Proposition of a theoretical model of collaborative consumption intention between ages

Paro, Carlos Eduardo 25 February 2019 (has links)
Although collaborative consumption has gained increasing attention among researchers in recent years, studies in this area are still very limited, and it is difficult to determine the factors that contribute to such a significant change in the consumption pattern. This work, therefore, elaborates a trsearch model, based on the theory of the planned behaviour, the materialism and possessiveness, the green consumption values and the readiness to use the technology in the collaborative consumption intention. The model aims to empirically demonstrate the differences between the age groups (younger and older) in this intention, serving as a moderating variable. The developed model was tested with the application of a structured questionnaire, using a structural equation model based on partial least squares (PLS). A total of 493 valid respondents were collected, with the group of the youngest (17 to 29 years old) having 303 respondents and the group of the oldest (30 to 59 years old) having 190 respondents. The results reveal that possessiveness does not have a significant statistical relationship with collaborative consumption intention, while the construct green consumption values and readiness for the use of technologies, presented positive relationship with collaborative consumption. The moderating age variable was significant only amongst constructs readiness to use the technology and collaborative consumer intention. This research deepens the understanding of the factors that motivate or inhibit the consumer to engage in collaborative consumption, considering the constructs studied, in addition to demonstrate the difference between younger and older consumers within this relationship. The managerial contribution comes through the the understanding of what positively or negatively affects collaborative consumption intention by the consumers, which allows the creation of strategies by the suppliers of peers and the collaborative consumer platforms. It also facilitates the segmentation of the market when considering the differences of age. Future studies can test this structural model with larger samples using a more rigorous structural equation method, which is the covariance-based structural equation model (CB-SEM), in addition to testing other moderating variables within this structural model.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Paula Alexandra Baeta dos Santos.pdf: 1542542 bytes, checksum: 5225cdd716e5af6dc18545944e64c978 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-04-28 / Materialism is the importance assigned by the individual to the ownership and acquisition of material goods as a way to express personality and social identity. Collaborative consumption, in turn, corresponds to an alternate consumption mode in which the acquisition and ownership give way to practices arranged mainly around sharing and access. Given these definitions, there seems to be a conflict for more materialistic individuals when they consider adopting collaborative consumption practices. This study aimed to understand whether materialism is antecedent of propensity to adopt collaborative consumption practices. It also examined the relationship between materialistic individuals’ profiles and the importance attached to the reasons of adoption. For these purposes, a field survey with 223 telephone interviews was conducted with residents of the São Paulo metropolitan area. The reduced materialism scale developed by Richins (2004) and adapted by Ponchio and Aranha (2008) was used to measure this construct. The scale was validated in the context of this research. From the theoretical framework, four collaborative consumption modes were selected to be investigated: trading or selling used goods, renting or borrowing products, car rental and exchange of intangible goods (services). Similarly, the reasons for adoption were selected too. The results show that collaborative consumption is an option to be considered by more materialistic individuals, as long as it is not based on access, but in exchange or acquisition of used goods. One possible motivation for their engagement is the opportunity to acquire innovative products that contribute in some way to their social distinction. At the end, academic and managerial implications were discussed as well as the limitations of this study and recommendations for future research.

: En undersökning av möjligheter för prenumerationsbaserad uthyrning av textila friluftsprodukter i Sverige / Clothing rental - the textile consumption of the future? : A research of possibilities of renting outdoor clothing through a subscription service.

Lind, Amelia, Hageström, Anneli January 2019 (has links)
This study investigates possibilities for the development of subscription based rental of outdoor clothing, with a base in a test project launched by company X. The study examines if there is a potential market for subscription-based outdoor clothing rental, what is required from such a service for consumers to switch from buying to renting their clothes and how such a concept can be designed to make the product range feel sufficient and personal for every customer. The study is implemented with a mixed method. The result is proving that there is a potential market for subscription based outdoor-clothing rental, but that many consumers don’t have the same need to update their outdoor clothes as often as their everyday clothes. The respondents are most interested in a package-offer based on their activities. Among the ones not interested in subscription based rental, the majority answered it’s because they want their clothes available at all times. Added value is needed to attract consumers to rent instead of buy, which could be gained by creating a community among the users. Other important aspects to gain value is through price advantages, availability and flexibility. The product range should be personally adjusted but with freedom of choice. Seasonal based subscription is an interesting option since many of the respondents want to use the product for a longer time. Logistic solutions are also discussed in the study and one option is to use agents who arranges swaps in smaller cities where there are no stores. The importance of focusing on a niched consumer are displayed, as well as the need of a great change in consumer attitude to be able to change habits and consumer behaviour.

Modelos de negócio adotados por empresas de compartilhamento de carros no contexto da mobilidade inteligente: estudos de caso múltiplos em empresas que atuam no Brasil / Business models adopted by car sharing companies in the context of smart mobility: multiple case studies in companies operating in Brazil

Silva, André Koide da 05 April 2019 (has links)
Smart cities emerged as an alternative in dealing with the difficulties arising from population growth observed in urbanized areas. Among the initiatives proposed by this new approach in urban spaces, smart mobility stands out as an essential service for the operation of cities. It proposes the use of technological resources in order to improve the experience of moving people and cargo, aiming to improve the quality of life of citizens. In this context, the importance of car sharing is highlighted as one of the alternatives to reduce congestion rates, the emission of pollutants and the demand for parking areas; in addition, this service promotes interaction with other transport modes and healthier habits among the individuals who use it. When analyzing the business models of the companies that operate in this market, different modalities are observed: car sharing (round trip), car sharing (one way), car sharing (P2P), carpooling, transport network companies and taxi services. It is also possible to identify a close relationship with collaborative consumption (also called sharing economy), a phenomenon widely exploited since the last decade, which fosters the use or access to goods over property. Thus, users of shared cars can use them without the incidence of the obligations and the fixed costs associated with the possession of these goods. Both paradigms use the Internet, social networks, information systems and technological resources to provide their services and connect users, creating the so-called multisided platforms. These support operation in physical or virtual spaces, connecting different groups of users; thus, by reducing the costs and difficulties of these matches, a favorable environment is provided to carry out the transactions, that is, the car sharing. This PhD thesis applied the qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), the MSDO technique, content analysis and cross-case analysis to the business models of 14 organizations operating in the car sharing segment with the purpose of identifying and describing how the components of smart mobility, collaborative consumption and multisided platforms have been incorporated into the operations of these companies through multiple case studies. The results achieved indicated some critical success factors of these business models, among them: analyzing massive data through big data tools, making mobile applications available, implementing physical and logical security features for users of car sharing services, the stimulation of online collaboration and the use of social networks and the operation in a regulated market. Due to asymmetric causality, components associated with failure also emerged, among them: the absence of the use of big data tools to analyze the users\' massive data; the unavailability of mobile applications; inefficient physical and logical security features; the adoption of innocuous or absent strategies for solving the critical mass problem in multisided platforms; the difficulty in obtaining the financial resources to make investments in different groups of users and the operation in a market without regulation.

TALKING THE TALK EQUALS WALKING THE WALK? : A Quantitative Study of the Attitude-Action Gap in the Sharing Economy

Nordström, Anders, Esseen, Rebecka January 2018 (has links)
Customer behavior has always been of interest for business researchers. However, it is just in recent years that there has been an increasing interest in the phenomenon of the sharing economy. It has been suggested that there is an ongoing shift in the traditional way of consuming. The idea behind the sharing economy is that two different parties can make use of their underused assets through an online platform. Previous quantitative research in the area of interest mainly focuses on the motivational factors for participation in the sharing economy; four of the most prominent factors were therefore identified and further investigated. In this thesis, these factors are referred to as drivers and more specifically, the drivers of enjoyment, sustainability, convenience, and financial benefits. Further, previous research gives an indication of a discrepancy between customer attitudes and actions when making a decision in the sharing economy. With this in mind, the purpose of this thesis is to describe customer behavior in the sharing economy. More specifically, this thesis seeks to study the relationship between attitudes and actions of customers in the sharing economy. Taking this into account, the following research question was formulated:   What is the relationship between attitudes and actions of the customers participating in the sharing economy of Rentl AB?   In order to fulfill the purpose of this thesis, the Swedish sharing economy business Rentl was addressed. To answer the research question a quantitative research strategy was followed where a survey was sent out to randomly chosen customers of Rentl and 145 responses were collected. The collected data was statistically analyzed by the use of Paired T-tests and Regression Analyses. Further, the empirical findings regarding the four identified drivers were analyzed in accordance with the theoretical framework. The identified attitude-action gap is therefore analyzed by the application of basic customer decision-making, the theory of Bounded Rationality, the Theory of Reasoned Action & the Theory of Planned Behavior, and finally the Self-Determination Theory.   The authors established that there is a positive relationship between attitudes and actions regarding the extrinsic drivers, convenience and financial benefits. However, it was further established that the intrinsic drivers, enjoyment and sustainability, do not have a significant influence on the actual actions. In other words, a positive attitude toward enjoyment and sustainability as drivers for participation in the sharing economy does not necessarily translate into actions. Thus, the authors identified that there is an attitude-action gap in the sharing economy.     In addition to the theoretical contributions, this research further contributes with practical aspects. More importantly, the sharing business Rentl is provided with a better understanding for the customer behavior in their business. Considering that the findings of this research identify convenience and financial benefits as significant drivers for participation, this can be emphasized in marketing contexts by managers.

Cultivating Collaborative Lifestyles in Urban Neighbourhoods

Ratzinger, Sofia January 2018 (has links)
Despite the increase of urban populations resulting in people living in close proximity to each other, society continues to operate with a focus on individual desire and hyper-consumption, at the expense of the earth’s ecologies and all that encompasses it. How can we begin to cultivate an alternative consumption model that not only focuses on the conservation of ecologies but also begins to break away from ways in which “habits, routines, social norms and cultural values lock us into unsustainable behaviours”? (Botsman, R., Rogers, R. 2010). Collaboration, through its many forms, be it ‘commons’ or modern-day ‘sharing economy’, continues to be a topic of discussion as a favourable solution to environmental, social and economic issues. This paper and design project explores the everyday practice of collaboration and its potential for activating a network in urban neighbourhoods, specifically in high-density housing. The project explores: how we can share, where we can share, and what we can share, using the sharing of household items as a seed for sustainable development. The resulting project presents methods and guidelines for cultivating collaboration in the form of a multipurpose toolkit. The toolkit “Collaboration is Cultivation” enables individuals to become activists and implement collaborative practices in their own neighbourhood. Through designerly research and a design project I shed light on the potential of the coming-together of neighbors through collaborative lifestyles that can incrementally transform neighborhoods into one’s that are socially and environmentally, sustainable, resilient and thriving.

Towards Sustainability – Analysis of Collaborative Behaviour in Urban Cohousing –

Stratmann, Judith, Ferreiro, Laura Weiss, Narayan, Rumy January 2013 (has links)
Society is facing a great Sustainability Challenge. The designs of our social and economic structures are creating enormous stress in our social, environmental and economic systems and across the world, citizens, businesses and governments have begun to take notice. Adopting more Sustainable Consumption behaviours have been identified as a necessary step in the move towards sustainability. This thesis explores the idea of Collaborative Consumption within the context of Cohousing in cities. Cohousing is defined as housing comprising of individual apartments or homes with shared spaces and facilities designed to create a community, oriented towards collaboration among residents and collective organisation of services. This research sought to identify key barriers and enablers for moving towards Sustainable Lifestyles and study the role of Cohousing as a catalyst for Collaborative Behaviour that triggers Collaborative Consumption leading urban communities towards Sustainable Lifestyles and ultimately towards Sustainable Development. By combining the Strategic Sustainable Development approach and Cohousing, this thesis provides a set of recommendations that could help Cohousing communities move strategically towards sustainability.

[pt] AS RELAÇÕES DA POLÍTICAS PÚBLICAS E O USO DO SOLO PARA SISTEMAS DE CARSHARING / [en] RELATIONS OF PUBLIC POLICIES AND THE LAND USE FOR CARSHARING SYSTEMS

JAIME MASSAGUER HIDALGO JUNIOR 11 May 2016 (has links)
[en] According to the IPCC report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), 2004, 23 percent of greenhouse gas emissions effects related to energy were originated in the transport sector. More than half of these emissions were generated by the use of light vehicle ride and motorcycles, defined as individual motorized transport. Half of the energy consumed in the transport sector is intended for individual motorized transport. However, it is carrying less than 25 percent of the world s passengers. Despite this low number, traffic accidents are responsible for one million deaths annually and ten million injured people. This number is part of a list of the ten leading causes of death recorded and reported by health agencies around the world, a rate next to malaria and HIV. A survey conducted by the Ministry of Cities in Brazil in conjunction with the National Department (National Traffic Department) in the year of 2005 shows that the costs of traffic accidents in Brazilian roads reached the number of twenty-two billion reais, a figure that represented 12 percent of the Brazilian GDP, taking into account the loss of production associated with the death of individuals or the interruption of its activities, the costs for health care and care with vehicles.

Furniture rental – the new way to consume furniture? : Attitudes and intentions to choose furniture rental as an alternative consumption model

Buch, Julia, Trenk, Jakob January 2021 (has links)
Background: Fast furniture is a growing trend similar to fast fashion and fast food, implying that manufacturers produce large quantities of inexpensive furniture. At the same time, consumers use the furniture shorter and replace it more frequently. Fast furniture relies on high resource consumption, outsourced production, and furniture design that makes it necessary to replace it more often. This causes a decrease in quality and an increase in produced quantities. Most of the furniture worldwide is landfilled as it is not recyclable due to low-quality materials. One potential solution is implementing Circular Economic practices, including furniture rental as an alternative way of consumption. Consumer acceptance of this model is scarcely researched, but the formation of consumers' attitudes and intentions has been the subject of publications in other consumption contexts. The recent literature is reviewed, and a research framework was built based on the Theory of Reasoned Action and additional intrapersonal barriers and drivers. Purpose: This research aimed to explain the relationship between intrapersonal barriers and drivers with attitude and behavioral intention towards furniture rental. Further, it was aimed to show which furniture categories are most likely to be rented. Method: A quantitative approach deploying a self-administered online survey was chosen. 235 usable responses were gathered, which were analyzed using PLS-SEM to assess the hypothesized relationships. Conclusion: The findings show that the overall attitude towards furniture rental is positive. Trend orientation and perceived risk are the most influential antecedents of attitude and behavioral intention. Supporting the Theory of Reasoned Action, attitude is the strongest predictor of behavioral intention. Perceived sustainability value, perceived economic value, and materialism also significantly influence the intention to rent furniture. Familiarity with the Sharing Economy shows no significant influence. The study contributes to the existing literature on consumer intentions to use alternative consumption. A new research model was developed based on existing theory and literature. Managers can use the findings to alter, adapt, and build their furniture rental service offerings.
