[pt] Quando alguém faz a escolha de se tornar um ilustrador profissional provavelmente passará por vários questionamentos sobre que caminhos seguir, que faculdade escolher, se deve ou não fazê-la, que cursos são necessários realizar etc. No Brasil, de acordo com os dados apresentados na presente pesquisa, quase não há o oferecimento de um ensino universitário para a formação acadêmica do ilustrador. Entretanto, mesmo não havendo praticamente a oferta de uma graduação, foi observado que a maioria dos ilustradores profissionais e futuros ilustradores optaram em ter, sim, uma formação de nível superior, sendo o Design o curso de maior escolha desse público. Dessa forma, com o intuito de entender o cenário brasileiro de formação acadêmica para o ilustrador, além da busca por documentos e conteúdos bibliográficos relacionados à área, foi realizado um questionário com ilustradores profissionais e futuros ilustradores de todas as regiões do Brasil e entrevistas com professores universitários. Para a organização dos dados obtidos a partir das falas desses participantes, foi utilizado o instrumento da análise de conteúdo a fim de categorizar tais informações que não só servem para a reflexão de uma futura construção de fundamentos para o estudo da ilustração, mas que aqui foram utilizados para a construção de um mapa de conteúdos sobre área a fim de servir como guia de estudo a futuros ilustradores de maneira autônoma, bem como uma possibilidade de auxiliar cursos ou universidades no planejamento de quais conteúdos ensinar em cursos (acadêmicos ou não) sobre ilustração. Além disso, a presente tese pretende também chamar a atenção de pesquisadores para a necessidade de haver mais investigações sobre este campo de conhecimento e, com isso, de alguma forma ajudar aqueles que querem seguir a carreira de ilustrador profissionalmente. / [en] Individuals who choose to become professional illustrators will probably go through several questions such as: which university to choos, which courses to take, which paths to follow. In Brazil, according to data presented in this research, there is not a consolidated university education offer specifically for academic training as an illustrator. However, even though there is no offer of this undergraduation, it was observed that most professional illustrators and future illustrators choose to pursue academic training, and Design is the most common choice for this audience. In order to understand the Brazilian scenario of academic education for the illustrators, besides the search for documents and bibliographical contents related to the area, questionnaires were conducted with professional illustrators and future illustrators from all regions of Brazil and interviews with university professors of the Design course. On the data collected from the speeches of these participants, it was used the analysis of content to find topics and interesting subjects about the area. These indications not only serve for a future construction of fundamentals for the study of illustration, as well as for building a first proposal for a course aimed at this audience, according to their own speeches. In addition, this thesis is also intended to draw the attention of researchers to the need for more research on this field and somehow help those who want to pursue the career of illustrator professionally.

O presente trabalho explora e analisa o antropomorfismo nos quadrinhos adultos. Baseando-se em uma bibliografia teórica sobre narração e histórias em quadrinhos. O trabalho investiga os impactos que a escolha do antropomorfismo, como forma de representação, tem sobre a construção de personagens e da narrativa. Partindo de um panorama histórico e artístico sobre a evolução do antropomorfismo nas artes gráficas e narrativas, elaborado a partir de autores como Keith Thomas e Maria Celeste Dezotti, o trabalho evolui para um estudo sobre o papel do antropomorfismo na narrativa, em particular nas histórias em quadrinhos. Baseandose em autores como Tzvetan Todorov e Roland Barthes, como também em teóricos da nona arte como Scott McCloud e Will Eisner. Com a finalidade de exemplificar e se aprofundar a pesquisa apresenta, também, dois estudos de casos de duas obras de diferentes nacionalidades que têm em comum o uso de protagonistas animalescos. As obras são: Blacksad - Artic Nation, dos espanhóis Juan Diaz Canales e Juanjo Guarnido, e Zé Gatão - Memento Mori, do brasileiro Eduardo Schloesser. / This study explores and analyzes the anthropomorphism in adult comics. Based on a theoretical literature on narrative and comic books. The research investigates the impact that the choice of anthropomorphism, as a form of representation, has about building characters and narrative. From a historical and artistic overview of the evolution of anthropomorphism in the graphic arts and narratives drawn from authors such as Keith Thomas and Maria Celeste Dezotti, work progresses to a study on the role of anthropomorphism in the narrative, particularly in comics. Based on authors like Tzvetan Todorov and Roland Barthes, as well as in the ninth art scholars as Scott McCloud and Will Eisner. In order to illustrate and deepen the research also presents two case studies of two comic books of different nationalities who have in common the use of animal-protagonists. The comcis are: Blacksad - Arctic Nation of Spaniards Juan Diaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido, and Zé Gatão - Memento Mori of Brazilian Eduardo Schloesser.

A proposta desta dissertação é a de analisar a obra produzida pelo jesuíta José Chantre y Herrera intitulada Historia de las misiones de la Compañía de Jesús en el Marañón español 1637-1767. Sua narrativa é dividida em doze livros que tratam das Missões de Maynas (1639 a 1767), localizadas no Alto Amazonas e foram dirigidas pelos padres da Companhia em meio a várias etnias indígenas. Chantre y Herrera era professor de metafísica quando, em 1767, sofre as sanções do decreto de Carlos III que expulsou todos os membros da Ordem dos territórios da Monarquia Espanhola. Ele jamais conheceu a América, entretanto, escreveu a obra da qual tratamos, a partir de informações e documentos produzidos por seus companheiros que tinham vivido e trabalhado naquela região de missão. Consideraremos, portanto, os motivos que instigaram este autor a escrever para seus pares e para uma Europa ilustrada, que vivia um momento de debates historiográficos, e tentaremos, por meio dele, acompanhar os debates que na época pautaram a “escrita da história do Novo Mundo” (CAÑIZARES ESGUERRA, 2007). / Thinking about the writings of the Society of Jesus in the eighteenth century implies reflecting on the symbolic significance of which was produced by its members, as well as on the conditions under which these writings were produced (Certeau, 1982). The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the work produced by the Jesuit José Chantre y Herrera entitled Historia de las misiones de la Compañía de Jesús en el eMarañón spañol 1637-1767. The narrative is divided into twelve books that treats of the Missions Of Maynas (1639-1767), located in Alto Amazonas and were directed by the priests of the Company among various indigenous groups. Chantre y Herrera was professor of metaphysics when, in 1767, suffers sanctions of the decree of Carlos III who expelled all members of the Order of the territories of the Spanish monarchy. He has never met the America, however, wrote the work which we treat, starting from informations and documents produced by his companions who had lived and worked in that area of mission. We will consider, therefore, the reasons that prompted this author to write for their peers and for an illustrious Europe, which lived a moment of historiographical debates, and we will try, through it, follow the debates then at that time guided the "history’s writing of the New World" (CAÑIZARES Esguerra, 2007).

[pt] A presente pesquisa tem como tema o potencial da ilustração jornalística nos jornais multiplataforma que incluem a versão mobile para o acesso por dispositivos móveis. A pesquisa busca compreender como o ambiente multiplataforma impacta a ilustração e que motivos levam essa ilustração a vir perdendo espaço entre as imagens jornalísticas, gerando dificuldades para sua inserção na versão dos jornais em smartphones. Para tanto, foram realizados uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema; entrevistas com 40 profissionais de jornais brasileiros (ilustradores e editores); além de um levantamento e análise documental de conteúdo jornalístico ilustrado para jornais digitais e impressos produzidos no período da pesquisa. A pesquisa buscou: identificar as funções da ilustração jornalística; compreender como o ilustrador se insere na rotina produtiva do jornalismo; refletir sobre aspectos do design, layout e composição na produção e apreciação da ilustração; identificar e compreender desafios técnicos presentes na produção e experiência da ilustração em smartphones (versões mobile); e compreender como o campo profissional percebe a ilustração e o ofício de ilustrador de jornais hoje. Foi considerada Ilustração jornalística toda imagem realizada por profissional Ilustrador para jornais diários, incluindo o Desenho de Humor – Caricatura, Charge, Cartum e História em quadrinhos – e todo desenho que visa ilustrar conteúdo opinativo no jornalismo, assim como a Ilustração para Infografia-Ilustrada. Imagens fotográficas e aquelas com função objetiva no jornalismo informativo, como os infográficos de dados, não foram contemplados. / [en] This research is focused on the potential of news and editorial illustration on multiplatform newspapers that include a mobile version for smartphone access. The study aims at comprehending how the multiplatform news setting impacts illustration and for what reasons is illustration losing ground among other images on newspapers, making it difficult for its insertion on the mobile versions of them. Our study undertook a literature review on the subject and interviewed 40 brazilian professionals from the news industry (illustrators and art editors). Documental research and analysis of illustrated material published during the years of development was also included. The study strove to: identify the functions of newspaper illustrations; to understand how the illustrator fits into today s news routines; to reflect on elements of design, layout and composition in the production and appreciation of illustration; to identify and understand technical challenges for the experience of illustration on smartphones (mobile versions); and to understand how the field of work realizes newspaper illustration and its craft today. Every image produced by a professional illustrator for daily news was considered news illustration, including cartooning – editorial cartoons, caricature and comics – and all drawing illustrating content in opinion journalism as well as information graphics that include illustration. Photographic images and those with an objetive role in information journalism, as well as graphics and data visualization, were not included.

Partindo do pressuposto de que o artista não é apenas um artesão especializado, mas comprometido com os novos desafios que a sociedade contemporânea apresenta, este texto objetiva apreciar alguns conteúdos que permitam o diálogo próximo entre pintura e poesia, ilustração e diferentes gêneros de obras literárias clássicas, reforçando a idéia de que as artes plásticas e as artes gráficas, interagindo com o texto literário, é um exercício para a leitura do mundo de maneira significativa e ao mesmo tempo lúdica. / Abstract: This research involves the analysis of the literary's aspects of artistic production of the Irish artist and craftsman of the early twentieth century, Harry Clarke, and his ability to deal with different media to interpret plastically literary works; initially with the stained glass and then with the illustration of books, without abandoning the first work. Based on the principle that the artist is not only an expert craftsman, as well as commited to the new challenges that contemporary society presents, this text aims to assess some contents that permit a close dialogue between painting and poetry, illustration and different genres of literary classics, reinforcing the idea that the fine arts and graphic arts, interacting with the literary text is an exercise in order to read the world in a meaningful way and at the same time in a playful way. / Mestre

The body of the present work includes not only a theoretical discussion on poetry and illustration but also presenting the actual drawings produced for Penna's text by the researcher. [pt] A literatura infantil origina-se de uma tradição oral que, adaptada ao suporte impresso, ganha concretude na forma de texto. A ilustração é incorporada ao texto com o qual estabelece inicialmente uma relação de subordinação. O livro infantil contemporâneo conta histórias, e estas ficções são muito baseadas na informação pictórica, na ilustração. Semelhante constatação nos leva a perguntar qual a função da ilustração no livro infantil contemporâneo e como este se relaciona com o texto. A presente pesquisa procura encontrar parâmetros para análise das diferentes possibilidades de condução da narrativa do livro infantil, efetuada por texto e imagem. Nesta dissertação, a relação entre texto e imagem no livro infantil é abordada de distintas maneiras, e uma tipologia dessa relação narrativa é criada para melhor poder analisá- la. Observa-se que, ao trabalhar de forma narrativa, a ilustração aplicada ao livro infantil tende a compor com o texto um sistema de imbricações recíprocas na construção da narrativa verbo-visual. O modo de leitura do livro infantil contemporâneo se faz distinto em relação aos outros tipos de edições ilustradas. Em suma, vamos analisar como a ilustração - pertencente às artes do espaço - se relaciona com o texto - pertencente às artes do tempo - num contexto narrativo. O estudo dessa relação visa buscar melhor compreensão dos processos de produção, mediação e recepção dos livros infantis, com o objetivo de contribuir para a ampliação do conhecimento do campo do design. / [en] Children literature is a result of oral tradition that came to a material constitution on the print media through text. When illustration got incorporated into text it firstly established a subordinated relationship with it. Children picturebooks tells stories and fiction is based on pictorial information - illustration. This fact questions why there is illustration in the picturebook and what is its relationship with the text. This research develops a parameter for the analysis of possible different ways the narrative is conducted in picturebooks, by image and text. In our study, the relationship between text and image in picturebooks is approached by many different ways and a typology of this relationship is created to help us understand it. When the picture acts in a narrative form it usually combines texts in a mutual signifying system which builds the visual and written storytelling. The children picturebook reading method is different from other types of illustrated editions. This investigation examines how illustration that belongs to space of the arts interacts with text that belongs to time arts, both within the narrative context. The study of this relationship seeks to better understand children s book production, mediation and reception processes, in order to contribute to expanding the knowledge in the design area.

[pt] Concept art: design e narrativa em animação tem o objetivo de investigar se existe clareza nas funções que compreendem a atividade do concept art, particularmente na relação entre design e narrativa. A motivação e objetivo geral da pesquisa é ampliar o entendimento a respeito do campo e delinear melhor os contornos da atividade. A referência para a construção deste perfil é o cinema de animação comercial norte-americano. Divide-se a pesquisa em três partes. Na primeira, faz-se uma investigação bibliográfica sobre questões etimológicas, históricas e de linguagem pertinentes ao concept art. Na segunda parte, avalia-se a posição do concept art na indústria a partir de três aspectos: como se difunde o conhecimento a respeito do campo; o contexto de produção do concept art no esquema de grandes estúdios; e quais as características de produção do concept art à luz da metodologia projetual do design. A terceira e última parte concentra-se no profissional da área, investigando o que a indústria busca desse profissional e o que ele pensa sobre concept art. Primeiro, analisa-se o relato de um concept artist atuante na indústria cinematográfica norte-americana, para depois ouvir profissionais que trabalham ligados à função no mercado nacional. Concluiu-se ao final deste trabalho que existe certa clareza nas funções que compreendem o concept art, mas ainda há a necessidade de se definir melhor estas funções. Exatamente por isso não se verificou consenso entre os profissionais entrevistados na relação entre concept art e narrativa, que neste trabalho julgamos como sendo a base do campo. / [en] This work aims to investigate whether there is clarity on the roles that constitute the Concept Art, especially with regard to the relation between the design and the narrative. The motivation and main objective of this research is to enlarge the understanding concerning the field and to define the contours of the practice. The construction of this profile is based on North American commercial animation movies. The research is divided into three parts. The first one illustrates a bibliographic investigation about etymological and historical issues and the specific language concerning Concept Art. The second part assesses the position of the Concept Art in the industry from three aspects: how the knowledge concerning the field is disseminated; the context of the Concept Art production according to the major studios scheme; and which are the features of producing Concept Art in the light of design projective methodology. The third and final part focuses on the professional, investigating what the industry seeks and what the professional thinks about Concept Art. Fist of all, it analyses the report of a concept artist active in the North American film industry, and the professionals related to the practice in the national market then. Finally, the conclusion of this work is that there is certain clarity about the roles that constitute the Concept Art, but it is still imperative to better define those functions. For that reason, there was no consensus among the interviewed professionals concerning the relation between Concept Art and narrative, which is, according to this work, the basis of the field.

En 1594, l’Ordre des Prêcheurs engage en France une réforme. À la fin du XVIIe siècle, le Maître général Antonin Cloche tente de nouveau d’aviver l’esprit d’observance. Parallèlement, l’Ordre devient pour les pouvoirs politiques, en France et aux Pays-Basméridionaux, un instrument de lutte contre les Réformés. Les dominicains s’engagent également dans tous les débats théologiques internes à l’Église catholique et se mobilisent pour les missions jusqu’aux extrémités de l’Asie. Ces évènements et la glorification des saints suscitent la création d’images gravées sur cuivre, commandées par l’Ordre ou indépendamment de celui-ci. Retrouver ces estampes, françaises et flamandes, comprendre leur processus d’émergence et le but qui leur fut assigné est l’objet du présent travail. L’enquête croise ainsi des données historiques internes à l’Ordre et supranationales. Sur le plan artistique, l’étude accorde une attention particulière, d’une part, à la circulation des graveurs et des modèles et, d’autre part, à l’émergence de styles propres. Ainsi se trouve valorisée l’articulation entre l’épanouissement de la taille-douce au XVIIe siècle, le discours d’un Ordre, et le regard porté sur lui. / This thesis focuses on the representation of the members of the Dominican Order as found in seventeenth century engravings. It seeks to examine the role of the French and Flemish engravers commissioned by the Order of Preachers in order to stress its social and moral importance. The engravings are an integral part of an artistic heritage with his own language, challenging our perception of the Dominican story, and more generally of the history itself. This has enabled us to question the contribution and the capacity of images either to reflect or to distort, like a mirror, the spiritual life and the theological debates in both the Church and in society during the seventeenth century.
