Forêts urbaines de loisirs : usages récréatifs et manières d'habiter / urban forests for leisure : Outdoor recreation and ways of living

Ce travail analyse les recompositions territoriales que produisent l’augmentation et la diversification des usages sportifs des forêts urbaines. La thèse interroge conjointement les demandes et les usages des populations urbaines, la manière dont ils s’ajustent à des choix d’équipement et à des formes de gestion. La thèse rend compte des déterminations réciproques des cultures, des rapports sociaux et des rapports spatiaux à l’échelle d’une métropole, Rouen, dont la ceinture verte est classée « Forêt d’Exception® » et dont la démarche gestionnaire s’avère relativement pionnière. Le corpus comprend 43 entretiens semi-directifs, divers documents (articles de presse, bulletins d’information, rapports d’activités, etc.), ainsi que de nombreuses données obtenues par questionnaire. Ces dernières ont été produites à l’échelle de la métropole (n=5700), des quartiers de lisière (n = 661) et des pratiques (n=334).L’analyse, multiscalaire, révèle le fonctionnement de médiations territoriales originales, qui sont aussi des analyseurs de choix. La diversité des usages dévoile en premier lieu des territoires du quotidien et des manières d’habiter très différenciées. Leur émergence récréative permet également d’observer, à travers des profils de pratiquants, les recompositions des formes sportives de la vie urbaine contemporaine. À l’heure du numérique et au croisement des logiques de la socialisation (traces et images de soi), de l’événementiel (développement des fun runs) et de l’affirmation d’un échelon politique « métropolitain », on analyse enfin comment ces formes et ces logiques de communication affectent la prise en charge de ces espaces naturels, qu’elles tendent à constituer en « stations ». / This work examines territorial recomposition produced by augmentation and diversification of urban forest outdoor recreation. The thesis interrogates jointly claim and practice and residential ‘choices’, choices in terms of cities and space inside cities. We south to elucidate the reciprocal determination of the various cultures, social relationships and spatial relations in Rouen metropolis (France). Rouen green belt is classified “Exceptional Forest ®” and the forest management is relatively pioneer. The corpus contains 43 semi-structured interviews, documents from several sources (departments of urban planning, administrative reports, newspapers articles, etc.) and several surveys collected by the scale of Rouen metropolis (N=5700), forest-fringe residents (N=661) and outdoor recreation practitioners (N=334). A multi-scale approach reveal how territorial mediations operate as a decision analyser. Practice diversity reveals “territories of the everyday” and different ways of living. Outdoor recreation emergence also allows to observe the urban life physical activities restructuration through the description of the type of practitioners. At the crossing of the logic of socialization (tracks, self-images), the logic of event management (fun runs development) and the appearance of a new metropolitain political scale we analysed how communication affects natural landscape and tend to turn them into “resort”.

Les inégalités d'accès aux ressources urbaines dans les franges périurbaines de Lille et Belo Horizonte (Brésil) / Inequalities in access to urban amenities in the suburban of Lille and Bello Horizonte (Brazil)

Cette recherche trouve son origine dans le constat selon lequel le périurbain devient progressivement plus complexe et que l’homogénéité présumée de ces espaces devrait être remise en question. En effet, l'étalement urbain est maintenant caractérisé par une série de processus post-suburbains multiples, inégaux et émergents, qui prennent des formes spécifiques dans des contextes spatio-temporels distincts. Dès lors, nous visons à examiner les impacts des évolutions récentes observées dans les franges périurbaines de Lille et de Belo Horizonte sur l’accès (potentiel et effectif) aux équipements urbains quotidiens (commerces, services, équipements de santé et de loisirs). Cet exercice comparatif, qui ne peut pas être réduit aux critères socioéconomiques et démographiques, propose de se concentrer sur les processus ordinaires qui contribuent à façonner les modes de vie des habitants périurbains. Dans un premier temps, les résultats montrent que, même si les grandes tendances se révèlent similaires dans les deux contextes, la métropole lilloise semble bénéficier aux groupes de classe moyenne, tandis que Belo Horizonte semble être plus polarisée. Deuxièmement, les résultats des entretiens semi-directifs menés avec les habitants des franges périurbaines montrent que leur accès aux ressources urbaines passe par une série de contraintes, stratégies et arbitrages, comme la trajectoire résidentielle des ménages, l’optimisation des déplacements, etc. L'analyse souligne à la fois la prédominance de la dépendance automobile dans les espaces de densité intermédiaire et la diversité des comportements de déplacement et des stratégies de mobilité, qui sont influencés non seulement par les caractéristiques individuelles, mais également par les structures spatiales et locales. / This research elaborates on a growing consensus in academic literature that low-density areas become gradually more complex and that their presumed homogeneity should be questioned. Undeniably, suburban sprawl is now characterized by a series of multifaceted, uneven and emergent post-suburban processes that assume specific forms across divergent spatiotemporal contexts. This thesis seeks to examine the impacts of the recent shifts observed in the suburban areas of Lille and Belo Horizonte in (potential and real) access to daily urban amenities (shops, services, health and leisure facilities). This comparative exercise that cannot be resumed in socio-economic and demographic criteria proposes to focus on ordinary processes that help shaping suburbanism(s), or suburban’s ways of life. First, results indicate that although global tendencies are shown to be similar in both contexts, the Metropolitan Area of Lille seems to benefit middle-class groups, while Belo Horizonte seems to be more polarized. Second, the results of semi-structured interviews conducted with the inhabitants of the suburban areas highlight how access to urban amenities is influenced by individual obstacles and strategies, such as residential trajectories and sequential trips. The analysis underlines, on the one hand, automobile dependency and, on the other hand, the diversity of travel behaviors and mobility strategies that are influenced not only by individual characteristics, but also spatial and local structures. / A presente pesquisa baseia-se na observação de que as áreas periurbanas vêm se tornando progressivamente mais complexas e que a suposta homogeneidade de tais espaços deve ser questionada. De fato, a expansão urbana caracteriza-se atualmente por uma série de processos póssuburbanos múltiplos, desiguais e emergentes, que assumem formas específicas em contextos espaço-temporais dist intos. Nesse sentido, pretende-se examinar os impactos das evoluções recentes observadas nas franjas periurbanas de Lille e Belo Horizonte no acesso (potencial e efetivo) às atividades urbanas diárias (lojas, serviços, equipamentos de saúde e lazer). Tal exercício comparativo, que não pode ser reduzido a critérios socioeconômicos e demográficos, propõe analisar os processos que constroem e a mobilidade dos moradores da periferia urbana. Inicialmente, os resultados mostram que, embora as principais tendências sejam semelhantes nos dois contextos, a metrópole de Lille beneficia os grupos de classe média, enquanto Belo Horizonte apresenta uma maior polarização. Em segundo lugar, os resultados de entrevistas semi-estruturadas realizadas com moradores das periferias mostram que o acesso aos equipamentos urbanos é associado a uma série de restrições, estratégias e arbitragens, como a trajetória residencial dos habitantes, a otimização dos deslocamentos etc. A análise permite destacar tanto a dependência do automóvel nas áreas periféricas, quanto a diversidade de estratégias de mobilidade, que são influenciadas não apenas pelas características individuais dos habitantes, mas também pelas configurações espaciais e locais.

[pt] O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar as transformações espaciais e as novas relações urbano-rurais nas localidades de Vargem Grande (Teresópolis-RJ) e Barracão dos Mendes (Nova Friburgo – RJ) a partir dos desenvolvimentos geográficos desiguais. O estudo das relações entre rural e urbano ganha contornos específicos no atual contexto de metropolização do espaço. As mudanças no campo, com o crescimento de atividades não-agrícolas e a diversificação dos sujeitos que atuam neste espaço, operam na construção de novas espacialidades, complexificando o rural em meio a uma mistura de símbolos, imaginários e representações. Tais transformações serão analisadas por uma perspectiva dialética, apreendendo o espaço a partir de uma abordagem centrada nos desenvolvimentos geográficos desiguais e tendo nas representações elementos mediadores para assimilar as múltiplas escalas articuladas na produção do espaço. O bairro de Vargem Grande e a localidade rural de Barracão dos Mendes são destacados como exemplos da heterogeneidade dos espaços em metropolização, constituindo arranjos particulares em meio à conjuntura de integração e ruptura própria da dinâmica fluida da acumulação do capital. Assim, dentre as inúmeras manifestações, o preço da terra, o padrão da renda familiar e as representações do espaço serão analisados enquanto evidências da transformação das relações urbano-rurais neste contexto de metropolização, tendo em vista os efeitos da expansão do fenômeno urbano-metropolitano para além das fronteiras das cidades. / [en] This dissertation aims to analyze the spatial transformations and the new urban-rural relations in the localities of Vargem Grande (Teresópolis-RJ) and Barracão dos Mendes (Nova Friburgo-RJ) from the perspective of uneven geographical developments. The study of the relations between rural and urban gains specific contours in the current context of metropolization of space. The changes in the countryside, with the growth of non-agricultural activities and the diversification of the subjects from this space, operate in the construction of new spatialities, making the rural complex amidst a mixture of symbols, imaginaries and representations. Such transformations will be analyzed by a dialectical perspective, apprehending space from an approach centered on uneven geographical developments and having in the representations mediating elements to assimilate the multiple scales articulated in the production of space. The neighborhood of Vargem Grande and the rural location of Barracão dos Mendes are highlighted as examples of the heterogeneity of spaces in metropolization, constituting particular arrangements in the midst of the conjuncture of integration and rupture proper of the fluid dynamics of capital accumulation. Thus, among the numerous manifestations, the price of land, the family income pattern and the representations of space will be analyzed as evidence of the transformation of urban-rural relations in this context of metropolization, considering the effects of the expansion of the urban-metropolitan phenomenon beyond the borders of cities.

[pt] Esta pesquisa empenha-se em desvendar as transformações nos e dos lugares rurais, a partir das localidades do município de Nova Friburgo – RJ (que compõem um dos mais importantes eixos de urbanidades no rural no estado do Rio de Janeiro, conforme RUA, 2017). Compreendemos que os espaços rurais estão inseridos em uma espacialidade capitalista, produtora e produto de desigualdades, mas, também, de diferenças. A partir disso, procura-se demonstrar como as transformações sociotécnicas (notadamente de informação e comunicação) atuam, de forma contraditória, como homogeneizadoras, fragmentadoras e hierarquizadoras dos lugares rurais. Deste modo, a pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar as relações urbano-rurais intensificadas pela mudança nas técnicas de comunicação e informação em um contexto de metropolização e globalização do espaço. Isto exige que, para além de uma análise que se apoie sobre as noções de campo e cidade, busque-se uma compreensão que considere o complexo processo que se dá no contexto metropolitano, onde entrecruzam-se urbanidades e ruralidades. Propõe, também, o exercício de confrontar e relacionar as múltiplas representações do espaço rural (e, em específico, do espaço rural friburguense). Conclui-se que há uma produção multiescalar do lugar rural, que, num contexto de metropolização do espaço, dá-se a partir de uma série de contradições: dispersão e centralização, inclusão e exclusão, presenças e ausências. As técnicas de comunicação e informação intensificam e aceleram um processo de inserção do lugar rural na escala global, através da sua midiatização, seu modelamento para o consumo (como uma representação de espaço de lazer e turismo antiurbano, porém, permeado de urbanidades) e sua apropriação por empresas globais. Assim, o espaço se integra e, ao mesmo tempo em que se eliminam dicotomias anteriormente existentes, reafirmam-se assimetrias entre os espaços. / [en] This research aims to unravel the transformations in and of rural places of the municipality of Nova Friburgo - RJ (which make up one of the most important axes of urbanities in the rural in the state of Rio de Janeiro, according to RUA, 2017). We understand that rural spaces are inserted in a capitalist spatiality, producer and product of inequalities, but also of differences. From this, we seek to demonstrate how sociotechnical transformations (notably those regarding information and communication technologies) act, in a contradictory way, as homogenizing, fragmenting and hierarchizing rural areas. While previous dichotomies are eliminated, integrating space, asymmetries between rural and urban spaces are reaffirmed. Thus, the research aims to analyze the urban-rural relations intensified by the change in communication and information techniques in a context of metropolization and globalization of space. This requires that, in addition to an analysis based on the notions of countryside and city, an understanding must be sought that considers the complex process that occurs in the metropolitan context, where urbanities and ruralities intersect. It also proposes the exercise of confronting and relating the multiple representations of rural space (and, in particular, the rural area of Nova Friburgo). We conclude that there is a multi-scale production of the rural place, which, in a context of metropolization of space, occurs from a series of contradictions: dispersion and centralization, inclusion and exclusion, presence and absence. Communication and information techniques intensify and accelerate a process of insertion of the rural place in the global scale (precariously), through its mediatization, its modeling for consumption (as a representation of leisure space and anti-urban tourism, however, permeated by urbanities) and their appropriation by global companies. Cette thèse consiste en une géographie des lieux et des circulations de l’émergence artistique dans une métropole du Sud. Elle se situe au croisement entre une géographie urbaine, soucieuse des agencements socio-spatiaux à l’intérieur desquels s’organise l’existence « ordinaire » d’une activité en train de se faire, et une géographie de l’art qui place les trajectoires spatiales des faits artistiques au cœur de l’analyse. Capitale postcoloniale, métropole est-africaine et périphérie d’une « économie mondiale d’archipel », Nairobi est un terrain de la rencontre entre métropolisation et globalisation. Dans le sillon des théories géographiques de la mondialisation, cette recherche propose de documenter et de cartographier les reconfigurations de l’espace artistique qui résultent de ces dynamiques. L’originalité de cette thèse est de rassembler l’ensemble des scènes et des productions artistiques d’une ville sur le dénominateur commun de la dimension spatiale de leurs circulations. Le matériau étudié (discours et curriculum vitae d’artistes, activités et archives de centres d’art) permet de confronter des circulations effectives à des horizons d’accomplissement différenciés, dont la trame est faite d’une ruralité encore prégnante et la connectivité d’une métropole mondialisée. La méthode développée relève de la traçabilité, dont la base est l’enquête par observation. Une exposition, une performance, une bourse de voyage, la visite d’un commissaire d’exposition, d’un collectionneur ou d’un mécène, les circulations quotidiennes d’un artiste et ses modes de socialisation, tous ces déplacements individuels, matériels, idéels et financiers constituent la matière première de la géographie proposée dans cette thèse. Comprise comme l’articulation entre, d’une part, les compétences et les tactiques spatiales des artistes et, d’autre part, les moyens matériels et institutionnels de gestion de la distance, la mobilité artistique interroge les conditions et le sens des déplacements autant que le devenir des acteurs engagés. / This Ph.D. thesis tackles the places and circulations involved in the making of art in a southern metropolis. It is situated at the crossroads of an urban geography concerned with the social and spatial layout through which this “ordinary” activity is organized, and a geographical approach of art that places actors’ trajectories at the heart of the analysis. Capital city in a postcolonial State, East African metropolis and periphery of the “global archipelagic economy”, Nairobi is a case of the encounter between metropolization and globalization. In the trail of the theories on the worlding of material geography, this study aims at documenting and mapping the reconfigurations of art space triggered by these dynamics. The novelty of this thesis is to assemble the entire range of art scenes and products of a city, using the common thread that is the spatial dimension of their circulations. The material studied (artists’ discourse and curriculum vitae; art centres activity and archive) takes on both the measureable circulations of artists while confronting them to their horizon of accomplishment. These are made up of the persistence of strong rural ties and the connectivity of a globally connected city. The method deployed relies on the notion of traceability and is based on a qualitative survey through observation. An exhibition, a performance, a mobility grant, a visiting curator, collector or benefactor, the daily circulations and socializing of an artist: all these individual, material, ideal or financial movements constitute the raw material of this research. The notion of art mobility is here understood as the articulation between artists’ agency and spatial tactics on the on hand, and the material and institutional means of dealing with distance on the other hand. Art mobility questions the conditions, directions and meanings of these movements as much as the growth of the actors engaged.

La question du Grand Paris (2001-2012) / The Greater Paris issue (2001-2012)

Le Grand Paris est une utopie en 2001, utopie qui va jouer un rôle moteur dans le changement de l’ordre institutionnel francilien de l’aménagement du territoire dans la décennie (2001-2012). Cette idée se manifeste dans trois processus menés conjointement : 1. une politique de coopération entre élus locaux mise en place par la Ville de Paris dès 2001 ; 2. un projet d’aménagement du territoire dès 2004 avec la révision du schéma directeur d’Ile-de-France, et dès 2008 avec un projet gouvernemental d’aménagement ; 3. un projet de réforme institutionnelle de changement d’échelle avec la création d’un gouvernement métropolitain. L’idée Grand Paris se matérialise par la mise en oeuvre d’un gigantesque réseau de transports publics autour de Paris depuis2010 et par une institution métropolitaine en 2014. Ces réalisations trouvent leurs racines dans les luttes institutionnelles et politiques de la décennie 2000.Cette monographie sur le Grand Paris illustre la problématique du changement d’échelle en contexte de forte concurrence entre métropoles mondiales. A travers l’analyse du système d’acteurs publics (en particulier la Ville de Paris, les maires de l’agglomération, le Conseil régional d’Ile-de-France et l’Etat), il s’agit de comprendre quels sont les usages du Grand Paris par ces acteurs,comment se construisent leurs représentations, et quels sont les blocages institutionnels contre la montée en puissance de l’échelon politique métropolitain. On montrera que l’on peut combiner utilement les trois variables d’analyse du changement que sont les intérêts, les idées et les institutions pour comprendre ce que révèle le problème public « Grand Paris » de l’évolution des relations entre l’Etat, la ville de Paris et le Conseil régional d’Ile-de-France. / The Greater Paris in in 2001 an utopia. However this planning vision for Paris has brought major changes to the Ile-de-France governance regarding urban development from 2001 to 2012. Three processes jointly carried out illustrate this idea: 1- Since 2001 the City of Paris has been encouraging cooperation between local elected representatives. 2- The Ile-de-France regional development plan has been reviewed since 2004 and as of 2008 a governmental urban development project has been formulated. 3- A new governance project which includes the creation of a metropolitan government has been discussed. The Greater Paris project has led to a new ambitious public transportation plan for its suburbs (2010) and the creation of a metropolitan government(2014). All of these achievements are the result of institutional and political conflicts from the last decade.This monography on the Greater Paris illustrates the issue of urban change of scale in thecontext of increased competition between cities. It aims at understanding the standpoints of public actors (the City of Paris, local mayors, the Ile-de-France region, the State): how they intend to use the Greater Paris idea, how they build up their representations of it and what are the institutional resistance against a metropolitan government. The analytical frame of this study combines three change variables - interests, ideas and institutions – to better understand how the Greater Paris project has changed the regional governance (2001-2012).

Från Öresundsregionen till Köpenhamnsregionen : En kritisk diskursanalys om den gränsregionala samordningen i Öresund

This study focuses on the reformation of the cross-border political coalition in the Scandinavian region of Öresund, specifically the re-organization of Öresundskommitteen to Greater Copenhagen & Skåne Committee. Through the lens of Critical Discourse Analysis, the study critically examines the newly advocated regional strategy focusing on international place marketing of the collective brand Greater Copenhagen, underlying power structures and incentives of the reformation as well as the subsequent consequences for the regional development. The result highlights a political shift of focus, from the region in general to Copenhagen in particular, justified by the conviction of growing international competition and the regional core as undisputable ‘growth-machine’ for the whole region. Consequently, local projects can be legitimized as regional concerns, potentially supporting misallocation of regional funds, political and core-periphery polarization.

Os elementos que motivaram a pesquisa foram os resultados do estudo Caracterização e Tendências da Rede Urbana do Brasil, que determinou a existência e a espacialidade de uma aglomeração urbana composta, basicamente, por Cascavel, Toledo e Santa Tereza do Oeste, na Mesorregião Oeste Paranaense, e a apresentação, à Assembléia Legislativa do Paraná, dos projetos de lei complementar n. 110 de 2003 e 235 de 2003, que visavam a instituição de unidades regionais polarizadas, respectivamente, por Cascavel e Toledo, duas cidades médias contíguas. Em virtude da generalização de Caracterização e Tendências da Rede Urbana do Brasil, decidiu-se aprofundar tal pesquisa, utilizando-se novos elementos para caracterizar a existência e mapear a espacialidade de aglomerações urbanas, como dados e informações referentes ao transporte coletivo intermunicipal e dados do Censo Demográfico de 2000, mensurando-se os movimentos pendulares exercidos pela população. Dessa forma, apontou-se a existência de pelo menos uma aglomeração urbana na Mesorregião Oeste Paranaense, a aglomeração urbana da soja, composta por dois núcleos, ou seja, bipolarizada por Cascavel e Toledo, agregando, ainda, em se tratando dos distritos, Corbélia, Ouro Verde do Oeste, Santa Tereza do Oeste e Sede Alvorada, com áreas de expansão configuradas por Cafelândia, Ibema, Marechal Cândido Rondon, Quatro Pontes, Rio do Salto, São José das Palmeiras, São Pedro do Iguaçu e Vera Cruz do Oeste. Tendo em vista as características da reestruturação socioespacial no Brasil, pode-se dizer que as problemáticas metropolitanas da aglomeração urbana da soja tendem a se aprofundar, ampliando-se, assim, os níveis de complementaridade entre os distritos que a compõem e, em corolário, a complexidade da rede urbana regional. Portanto, existe um processo de metropolização entre Cascavel, Toledo e cidades adjacentes. Como resultado, pode-se assegurar que o processo de metropolização se encontra bastante afastado da arena parlamentar. Le développement territorial face à la métropolisation : une application au cas de la région Midi-Pyrénées / The territorial development facing the metropolization : the case of the Midi-Pyrénées region

En France, comme dans de nombreux pays, les dernières décennies ont été fortement marquées par le dynamisme et l’étalement des métropoles, qui concentrent à la fois des fonctions décisionnelles, des fonctions productives à haute valeur ajoutée, ainsi que des populations qualifiées, et bénéficient, dès lors, d’économies d’agglomération. Si la contribution de ces métropoles à la richesse nationale est majeure, le phénomène de métropolisation tend à accentuer les inégalités territoriales. Encouragés par les récentes réformes territoriales, et notamment les lois NOTRe et MAPTAM, le renforcement du rôle des régions, leur élargissement, et l’affirmation des métropoles, posent avec encore plus d’acuité les questions du développement territorial, des territoires d’action pertinents et de la répartition des richesses au sein de l’espace régional. La région Midi-Pyrénées ne fait pas exception à ce phénomène de métropolisation tant le dynamisme, le rayonnement et la croissance urbaine de Toulouse sont notables. De plus, son hétérogénéité infrarégionale en fait un terrain d’étude favorable pour saisir les nouveaux enjeux territoriaux qu’impose ce phénomène de métropolisation : une polarisation croissante des activités, une démographie différenciée, une croissance économique freinée par la « tyrannie de la distance », une répartition spatiale inégale des qualifications et des productivités, ou encore une structure urbaine polycentrique.Aussi, aujourd’hui, réussir à combiner un dynamisme métropolitain entraînant, avec des dynamismes territoriaux différenciés, ainsi qu’une politique territoriale pertinente et coopérative, semble être le défi à relever pour tendre vers davantage d’équité territoriale. / In France, as in many countries, the last decades witnessed the dynamism and the spreading of metropolises, wich concentrate at the same time decision-making functions, productive high-added-value functions, as well as skilled populations, and benefit therefore from agglomeration economies. If the contribution of these metropolises to the national wealth is major, the phenomenon of metropolization tends to strengthen the territorial disparities. Supported by the recent territorial reforms, in particular the laws NOTRe and MAPTAM, the strenghtening of the role of regions, as well as their enlargement, and the metropolises affirmation raise keenly the issues of the territorial development, of the relevant action territories and of the wealth distribution within the regional space.The region Midi-Pyrénées doesn’t constitue an exception to this phenomenon of metropolization as the dynamism, the influence and the urban growth of Toulouse are significant. Furthermore, its subregional heterogeneousness offers a favourable field of reearch to identify the new territorial challenges involved by the metropolization : a growing polarization of activities, a differenciated demography , an economic growth restricted by the « tyranny of distance », skills and productivites are unevenly distributed, or even polycentric urban pattern.So, today, the territorial equity challenge can be met combining the strong impetus of the metropolises, with specific territorial dynamisms, and a relevant and cooperative territorial policy.

Périurbanisation à Yangon, Myanmar : une géographie politique des dynamiques foncières marchandes locales

Cette recherche de maîtrise s’intéresse au processus de périurbanisation à Yangon, métropole du Myanmar, dans un contexte de métropolisation et de libéralisation de la gestion des ressources foncières. Dans ce mémoire, je défends l’idée que la périurbanisation doit être considérée comme un processus de reconfiguration des espaces politiques et des dynamiques foncières marchandes alimentées par l’ensemble des acteurs des espaces périphériques de Yangon. Une approche de la périurbanisation par la géographie politique et une perspective relationnelle du concept de marchandisation permet de comprendre la complexité des relations de pouvoir et des dynamiques foncières marchandes qui contribuent à façonner les espaces périurbains de Yangon. Cette recherche s’appuie sur une étude des pratiques et stratégies foncières des acteurs locaux à Thanlyin, township périurbain de Yangon, dans un contexte de développement accéléré de son territoire. L’analyse produite dans cette recherche démontre que la périurbanisation est un processus complexe de territorialisation de la tension entre la formalité et l’informalité foncières, de formation d’agencements fonciers favorisant la marchandisation de la terre et de production de nouveaux espaces politiques multiscalaires. / This master’s research focuses on the process of peri-urbanization in Yangon, Myanmar’s metropolis, in a context of metropolization and liberalization of land resource management. In this thesis, I defend the idea that peri-urbanization must be considered as a process of reconfiguring political spaces and land commodification dynamics fueled by the actors of the peripheral areas of Yangon. An approach to peri-urbanization through political geography and a relational perspective of the concept of commodification allows us to understand the complexity of power relations and market land dynamics that help shape the peri-urban spaces of Yangon. This research is based on a study of land practices and strategies of local actors in Thanlyin, a peri-urban township of Yangon, in a context of accelerated development of its territory. The analysis produced in this research demonstrates that peri-urbanization is a complex process of territorialization of the tension between land formality and informality, of formation of land assemblage favoring land commodification and of new multi-scale political space production.
