[en] BAILES SOUL, DICTATORSHIP AND VIOLENCE IN RIO DE JANEIRO S SUBURBS IN THE 1970 S / [pt] BAILES SOUL, DITADURA E VIOLÊNCIA NOS SUBÚRBIOS CARIOCAS NA DÉCADA DE 197008 April 2021 (has links)
discutia o racismo e as relações raciais no país.
– especialmente as do sistema penal. / [en] This dissertation aims to analyze the experience of promoters and those
who attended the bailes soul in the 1970 s in Rio de Janeiro s suburbs. The
phenomenon of the bailes started in late 60 s. Throughout the following decade,
it became the most important leisure form of hundreds of thousands of young
black men and women. They were inspired by the Black Power movement in the
United States of America and the fights for independence in several African
countries and have re-appropriated those cultural and political influences. The
bailes changed the way that Brazil discussed racism and racial relations. The
dictatorship used the myth of the racial democracy as official ideology and saw
the bailes as a threat to national security. As we analyze the phenomenon, we
can understand how the regime saw the questioning of this myth. However, it was
not only about the political threat. The bailes allow us to insert the
dictatorship s violence in a much larger temporality. Therefore, we aim to analyze
it from a perspective in which the social control of the most subalternized sectors
of the society – the classes perigosas – is seen as the fundamental objective of
the State and its institutions – specially those of the penal system.

[pt] AS PRÁTICAS DE NORMALIZAÇÃO DA VIOLÊNCIA OPERACIONALIZADAS PELA VOLKSWAGEN DO BRASIL NA DITADURA MILITAR BRASILEIRA (1964-1985) / [en] THE NORMALIZATION PRACTICES OF VIOLENCE OPERATED BY VOLKSWAGEN DO BRASIL IN THE BRAZILIAN MILITARY DICTATORSHIP (1964-1985)10 May 2021 (has links)
[en] The Brazilian military dictatorship has caused deep changes in the country s political, economic, trade union and social structures. In spite of this, the subject is little touched by the organizations researchers, even with indications of the business participation in the conspiracy that culminated with the coup of 1964 or their collaboration with organs of repression of the State. In order to change this situation, this research aimed to investigate what were and how the violence practices committed by Volkswagen do Brasil against its workers during the Brazilian military dictatorship were configured. The thesis underlying this objective is that this company used violence normalization practices so that it could be practiced indiscriminately for the purpose of increasing earnings. To achieve this goal, this study developed, based on the literature, an analytical framework, categorizing the violence normalization practices that served as a basis for reading the documents collected. Were identified twenty-two practices in the literature, that were grouped into six dimensions. Based on historical perspective, this research was based on documents at time as a corpus of research. As a result of the research it was possible to identify that Volkswagen do Brasil practiced physical, psychological, symbolic, economic and political violence against its workers and adopted twelve practices with the potential to normalize the violence committed.

[en] The objective of this investigation is to analyze the circulation of Chilean
New Song Movement in brazilian cultural resistance, thinking about the meanings
of this connection for the context and how it was incorporated as part of the
contentious repertoires against the Military Dictatorship, especially between 1974
and 1980. With the conjuncture of military dictatorships established in the Southern
Cone, music was an element used by artists, students, workers and intellectuals as
an instrument of expression and representation of their political ideals against
authoritarianism. In the second half of the 1970s, with reformulations and disputes
about brazilian cultural resistance, it is possible to perceive the incorporation of
Chilean New Song Movement by certain groups as a symbolic expression of an
anti-authoritarian and anti-imperialist discourse, in addition to expressing a
belonging to the Latin American community. The presence of Chilean New Song
Movement in Brazil, through the artists of this movement and their songs, was
identified in artistic-cultural events, collections of records produced by national
record companies and in the dialogues of brazilian musicians with this universe,
through aesthetic characteristics and interpretations of some of these songs. With
the intention of exploring the discourses articulated around a certain musical
production, publications from newspapers of the brazilian press were used as main
sources for this research, in order to understand the symbolic meanings attributed
to Chilean New Song Movement, how was the reception of this songbook and who
were the agents involved in this process of cultural circulation.

[en] This thesis aims to study the relationship between the artistic activities in prison, the sociability issues and the daily life of its producers as political prisoners. Taking the period ranging from 1969 to 1979 as a chronological cut, the research examines the experiences of inmates in different institutions in the city of São Paulo: Presídio Tiradentes, Complexo Penitenciário do Carandiru (Casa de Detenção and Penitenciária do Estado), Presídio do Hipódromo, and Presídio da Justiça Militar Federal. For this, several types of sources have been used in the research: artistic piece of works belonging to the collection Alípio Freire-Rita Sipahi and to other personal collections, documents written by political prisoners during the prison experience, documents prepared by the repressive agents on these inmates, art courses in prisons, newspaper news reports of the time, and memories of former political prisoners. Artistic production is perceived as a document-testimony, an expression that here means a historical document produced during a situation of political violence, working as a bridge between people and form of resistance. The activity developed in prison triggered different notions of resistance and showed different functions. At one point, it has also reflected disagreements between inmates and their political projects, however, on most occasions, it revealed the connection between political prisoners or between them and their support network outside the prison space.

[pt] COMO UMA REVOADA DE PÁSSAROS: UMA HISTÓRIA DO MOVIMENTO INDÍGENA NA DITADURA MILITAR BRASILEIRA / [en] LIKE A FLOCK OF BIRDS: A HISTORY OF THE INDIGENOUS MOVEMENT IN THE BRAZILIAN MILITARY DICTATORSHIPJOAO GABRIEL DA SILVA ASCENSO 14 March 2022 (has links)
mineradoras, madeireiras, agropecuárias e do próprio Estado. Durante esse mesmo
período, entretanto, ganhava destaque, tanto nacional quanto internacionalmente,
Antropologia.
[en] The Brazilian military dictatorship, most notably following 1968, urged an advance
in its offensive against indigenous peoples, particularly those who inhabited regions
of the Legal Amazon, placing the territories of many in the sights of contractors and
mining, logging, and agricultural enterprises, in addition to the State itself. During
this same period however, a range of discussions dominated, concerning the idea of
self-determination and the need to protect not only the physical existence of
indigenous peoples, but also their cultural and symbolic existences, including their
rights to their lands. Social scientists, principally anthropologists, participated
within this debate, as well as religious missionaries affiliated with Liberation
Theology. It was within this context that the first assemblies of indigenous chiefs
began to be organized by the Conselho Indigenista Missionário (CIMI) from 1974
onward. This thesis, thus, seeks to analyze the set of initiatives and organizations
that were declared in that moment, becoming what was called the Brazilian
indigenous movement. For this reason, it was necessary to investigate to what
extent the idea of an indigenous movement from within this period makes sense,
based on a dialogue with social movement theorists. It is proposed that envisioning
an indigenous movement in this context is plausible, in so far as it is conceived as
a set of networks that also includes non-indigenous people, although with the
established goal of building an indigenous leadership. Furthermore, within the
discussion of indigenous politics, it is important to situate it as an eminently
diplomatic action that incorporates the relationship between different worlds – the
human and the non-human. It is, therefore, a cosmopolitics. Two concepts
respectively are useful conceptualizations in understanding the política
indigenista of the State and the indigenous politics carried out – although not
exclusively – by the indigenous movement from the 1970s. These are the concepts
of política indigenista da pax colonial and cosmopolítica da paz provisória. These concepts are useful within the analysis of several processes that concern the
Brazilian indigenous movement: the meeting of the first assemblies, the fight
against the Emancipation Decree, the presence of indigenous leaders in
international events, the construction of the Union of Indigenous Nations (UNI),
the participation in institutional politics and the struggle in the Constituent
Assembly of 1987/88, for example. To this end, a wide range of documentary
sources have been analyzed, according to Social History and Anthropology. Thus,
the main goal of this work is to understand the dynamics, power struggles and
narrative disputes, mediation strategies and diplomacy between worlds that led to
the confrontation between the política indigenista da pax colonial and the
cosmopolítica da paz provisória, the conquests of the latter (materialized in the
1988 Constitution), as well as the permanencies of the former, with its echoes
resonating to the present day.

[en] Following a long civil-military dictatorship and a controlled political transition, the Brazilian process of reckoning with its authoritarian past has been turbulent and disputed. This is the theme this thesis focuses on. Based on interviews produced by the Oral History methodology with policymakers, as well as with the people who were affected by the authoritarian regime, we identified three different perspectives on the treatment of this past: that of the conservatives, that of the groups affected, and that of the negotiators. Each one of them represents how political actors organized and articulated themselves during the redemocratization process in order to shape the political debate. Considering this, the central hypothesis of this research is that, under the justification of avoiding a new institutional rupture and turning the page on history, the conservative perspective predominated in a deliberate process of silencing the memory of the affected people. This is, therefore, what we define as a public policy of silencing. Although we recognize that there was a movement of the State in favor of memory policies and measures between 2007 and 2014, these remained circumscribed to directly affected groups, such as family members of the dead and disappeared, former political prisoners, and movements for the defense of human rights, so that society does not perceive itself as having been harmed by the arbitrariness of authoritarianism, nor its effects. To support our analysis, we reflect on the political use of the 1979 Amnesty Law as an instrument to guarantee silencing until today. Furthermore, we point to the priority given to reparations as a strategy that produced an individualizing effect, keeping society at a distance from the agenda. Finally, we analyze the narrative disputes around the National Truth Commission and its
disruptive impact on the public policy of silencing, which generated an intense reaction from conservative groups in different political spheres.

[pt] O REINO E A GLÓRIA: UM ESTUDO SOBRE POLÍTICA E MORALIDADE CONSERVADORA EVANGÉLICA NA POLÍTICA BRASILEIRA / [en] THE KINGDOM AND THE GLORY: A STUDY ON POLITICS AND EVANGELICAL CONSERVATIVE MORALITY IN THE BRAZILIAN REPUBLICLUIZ FELIPE WAITZ 29 September 2023 (has links)
A principal preocupação é tentar explorar
[en] This paper aims at an historical analysis of the formation of a Conservative Moral
Identity on big Brazilian evangelical denominations. Following the historical
development of Brazilian Pentecostalism and undertaking the Brazilian Military
Dictatorship and the following 1988 restoration of the Democratic Regime as
political moments, this paper deals with conceptual divisions concerning
Pentecostals and Neopentecostals paving the way to the construction of an
Evangelical Identity made by the mass media, and the following evangelical
participation in Politics aligned with reactionary conservatism. The main
investigation is to try to explore the way by which the evangelical participation in
Brazilian politics started and was developed, as well as the reason why evangelical
politicians undertook the ideological path of the Conservative Right. We seek to lay
more attention to the different evangelical traditions, their values and histories to
demonstrate that, despite much is said about a evangelical political agenda, there
is no single way of evangelical participation in Politics.

[pt] LEVANTES NO CAMPO LITERÁRIO / [en] UPRISINGS IN THE LITERARY FIELDALEXANDRE FERREIRA VELHO 20 April 2020 (has links)
[pt] A tese Levantes no campo literário focaliza processos literários
[en] The thesis Uprisings in the Literary Field focuses on contemporary literary
processes averse to consensual classifying identification, due to their heterogeneous
contents, scriptural configurations and communicative circuits. In this context,
interartistic and intermediatical crossings are presented in a transdisciplinary
perspective, searching for theoretical and critical tools, that highlight the creative
potential of a literary corpus in constant movement and increasing expansion. The
accent on imaginative knowledge opens space for new articulations with the past,
oscillating between memory, forgetfulness and survival. Readable and visible in
heterochronic assemblies and reassemblies, they privilege flexible constellation
compositions of their remains and traces still acting in the present, to the detriment
of linear sequential narrative structures. The aesthetic, ethical and political concerns
of these reflections are placed in this context opening space, among others, for
inquiries motivated by the appropriation of the concept of uprisings (soulèvements)
problematized and disseminated by the philosopher and art historian Georges DidiHuberman. Through the questioning readings of the history of Military Dictatorship
registered by the novel K., relatos de uma busca, by Bernardo Kucinski, and by the
movie Deslembro, by Flavia Castro, compared with the Carandiru s Massacre,
exposed in the artistic installation 111 and in the performance 111 Vigília Canto
Leitura, by the multi-artist Nuno Ramos, we investigate the ways in which those
literary objects, understood as political resistance or uprising gestures, operate to
not forget these events and their victims, turning their latent memory into living
experience. In this sense, the thesis Uprisings in the Literary Field is an original
and appropriate contribution to the building of theoretical repertoires in tune with
the contemporary literary productions demands.

[en] The present research study is comprised in the field of History of Education and has Cultural History as its theoretical axis. It is intended to be a study of the reports of school actors. It is guided by the emblem of memory, a study informed by the history of ideas and of school institutions, and also by the history of the teaching occupation. It is mostly concerned with an effort to discern the relationship between the educational thought of the protestant group of Baptist confession and the educational platform of the period of the military regime in Brazil, which emphasized civism and nationalism. Teachers from the network of Baptist schools in the state of Rio de Janeiro were interviewed, with the tools offered by the field of Oral History and the guidance of the field of historiography dedicated to the study of memory. The teachers who were interviewed taught subjects such as History, Moral and Civic Education, and OSPB [The Social and Political Organization of Brazil], considering the political and ideological inclinations that these disciplines took on, at the time. As a product of this investigation, it was noted that the political fervor characteristic of that historical context, when added to the confessional nature of the Baptist schools, as well as the religious educational background of the teachers interviewed, ended up creating tensions within the school space, generating moments of regulation and ideological constraint, but also of resistance and questioning, sometimes geared towards the content of the school disciplines as defined by the State or towards ideologically conflicting situations, part of the daily exercise of the teaching profession and the relationships among school actors.

Antonio Callado Jornalista : a narrativa da grande reportagem e o ideal do Brasil possível /Martins, Lilian Juliana January 2018 (has links)
