[pt] A avaliação das condições do mar por meio de instrumentos in situ na zona de
surfe é muito desafiante. Nesse ambiente, temos a quebra das ondas e presença
de banhistas. A quebra das ondas gera grande dissipação de energia, o que
pode danificar os instrumentos e possivelmente causar um choque entre o
instrumento e os banhistas. Uma solução para auferir as condições do mar com
sensor remoto pode apresentar grande vantagem. Neste trabalho, é proposto
um método de visão computacional tradicional, uma vez que não há um banco
público de imagens de ondas para a utilização de redes neurais. Utilizamos
câmeras de rede convecionais e de baixo custo já largamente instaladas nos
principais pontos de surfe do Brasil e do mundo fazendo com que o nosso
método fique mais acessível a todos. Com ele, conseguimos extrair propriedades
das ondas, como distância, frequência, direção, posição no mundo, percurso,
velocidade, intervalo entre séries e altura da face da onda, e prover uma análise
quantitativa das condições do mar. Esses dados devem servir às áreas de
Oceanografia, de Engenharia Costeira, de Segurança do mar e ao novo esporte
olímpico: surfe. / [en] Evaluating sea conditions in the nearshore through in situ instruments can
be challenging. This environment is exposed to wave breaking and civilian
recreation. Wave breaking dissipates energy, which can lead to damaging the
instrument and possibly causing shock with civilians. A solution to acquire sea
conditions data through remote sensing can be of great advantage. This work,
presents a traditional computer vision method, since there is no public wave
image dataset. Low cost conventional network cameras are used, which are
already installed in the main surfing spots around the world makng our method
more accessible to the general public. With it, we are able to extract wave
properties such as length, frequency, direction, world position, path, speed and
sets interval. This data should serve as input to areas such as Oceanography,
Coast Engineering, water safety and the new Olympic Game: Surfing.

Denna studie undersöker utmaningarna och möjligheterna med implementeringen av artificiell intelligens (AI) på arbetsplatsen. Genom en kombination av intervjuer, enkäter och litteraturöversikt analyseras olika aspekter av AI-implementering, inklusive effektivitet, produktivitet, kompetensutveckling, etiska dilemman och samarbete. Resultaten visar att AI-implementering kan leda till ökad effektivitet och produktivitet genom automatisering av rutinmässiga uppgifter. Dock finns det utmaningar relaterade till anställdas acceptans, utbildning och säkerhetsfrågor. Vidare betonas vikten av att etablera etiska riktlinjer för att hantera potentiella risker och dilemman som uppstår med AI-användning. Kommunikation och samarbete identifieras som nyckelfaktorer för en framgångsrik integration av AI på arbetsplatsen. Denna studie belyser behovet av att förstå och navigera de komplexa dynamikerna som omger AI-implementering för att maximera dess fördelar och minimera dess risker. / This study examines the challenges and opportunities associated with the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. The results indicate that AI implementation can lead to increased efficiency and productivity by automating routine tasks. However, there are challenges related to employee acceptance, training, and security issues. Communication and collaboration are identified as key factors for successful integration of AI in the workplace. The South African health care environment is a two-tier health care delivery system consisting of the public sector and the private sector. The focus of this study is on the private health care sector. Private health care is funded by medical schemes through employer and employee contributions. The private sector is also the most profitable sector for multinational pharmaceutical organisations to market and sell their products within the South African health care environment.
The major cost saving initiative by employers and medical schemes in the private health care sector has also been the introduction of managed health care initiatives. The goal of managed health care is to establish a system which delivers value by giving people access to quality and cost-effective healthcare.
The new reality of managed health care initiatives are changing the boundaries of the South African pharmaceutical industry. The managed health care wake is overturning the business processes which made the pharmaceutical industry so successful and are rendering obsolete the industry's conventional models of corporate strategy and management systems. In the context of these turbulent changes, pharmaceutical companies are being forced simultaneously to develop new strategic approaches for the future, design new business processes which will link them more firmly to their new customers, and implement the cultural changes neccessary to accomplish the transformation from yesterday's successful pharmaceutical company to tomorrow's customer-led, integrated health care supplier.
The way forward lies in three organising concepts. The first is cutomer alignment. The effort of transformation must start with an understanding of how the customer defines the value of the services and/or products offered by the organisation. Everything that follows involves aligning internal processes with external contingencies. The second is sequencing. It is vital to understand not just what needs to happen first in the transformation process, but also what the subsequent steps is and in what order the steps need to be undertaken. The third organising concept is learning. Text in English, abstract in English and Afrikaans / Dramatic changes in Newfoundland's environment and global developments during the
past decade, significantly influenced growing demands for restructuring the education
system of Newfoundland. Responding to these demands, Newfoundland educators
succeeded in creating a single unified non-denominational education system which
became fully operational at the beginning of the 1998/99 school year. This
achievement has been hailed by the majority of Newfoundlanders as a monumental
landmark in the provinces' lengthy experience with denominational education. As well,
it is viewed as pivotal in achieving educational excellence and ensuring that children
receive a relevant education that will prepare them for the demands of the next century.
The former education system (which consisted of four separate denominational school
systems operated jointly by the church and the state) had become too cumbersome and inefficient, thus adversely affecting the quality of education. This thesis looks in particular at the contextual realities and perspectives that
influenced the demands for changing the system. Such factors as the declining school
population, economic conditions, technological developments, as well as legal and
political issues have distinctly changed the Newfoundland society during the past
number of years, hence the necessity to restructure the education system. The thesis
furthermore discusses the proposed government model for restructuring the system and
highlights the proposals for improving education. It also focuses briefly on the minority
rights issue in Canada, as this has bearing on the legal rights of the church to educate in Newfoundland and its current role within the new structure. An evaluation of Newfoundland's educational reform initiatives (which includes the
views of key educators in Newfoundland on these issues), deals with some of the
problem areas which currently exist within the new system. However, the focus centres
mainly on the obvious improvements in such areas as management, organization,
parent involvement, curriculum development, educational achievement and
accountability. The impact of these reforms on the social, educational and political
dimensions of the Newfoundland society will only become evident in time, yet they hold
the promise of having a lasting impact on educational achievement. The remarkable
feature of the whole reform process is, that it was achieved from within. / Die ingrypende veranderings wat die Newfoundlandse gemeenskap oor die afgelope
dekade ondergaan het, tesame met ontwikkelings op wereldvlak, het aanleiding gegee
tot toenemende eise om die onderwysstelsel van Newfoundland te herstruktureer.
Gevolglik onderneem die Newfoundlandse regering 'n omvattende herondersoek van
die onderwys wat lei tot die vorming van 'n enkele, openbare, ge'integreerde
onderwysstelsel wat aan die begin van die skooljaar 1998/99 in werking tree. Hierdie
prestasie word as 'n besondere keerpunt in die onderwys deur Newfoundlanders
beskou, aangesien die behoud en vooruitgang van die Newfoundlandse gemeenskap
en onderwys daardeur verseker word. Voorheen het die onderwysstelsel uit vier
afsonderlike kerkskoolstelsels bestaan wat gesamentlik deur die staat en kerk op alle
vlakke beheer en bestuur is. Hierdie eiesoortige struktuur het die onderwys al hoe meer belemmer en opvoedkundiges genoodsaak om dit te hersien. Hierdie studie kyk eerstens na die vergestaltende faktore en lewensbeskouings wat die

veranderde leefwereld van die Newfoundlander en noop die regering om die
onderwysstelsel daarby aan te pas en 'n onderwysmodel vir die toekoms te ontwerp.
Hierdie onderwysmodel wat alle komponente asook die struktuur van die
onderwysstelsel aanraak, word vervolgens ontleed. Aandag word ook gewy aan die
kwessie van minderheidsregte in Kanada, omdat dit die kerk se reg om onderwys in
Newfoundland te bedryf, raak. Laastens word die onderwyshervormings vanuit sekere
perspektiewe in oenskou geneem en die standpunte van sommige Newfoundlandse
opvoedkundiges word gestel. In die slotbeskouing word ook enkele probleme
ge'identifiseer. Die bespreking word egter hoofsaaklik gewy aan aspekte van die

South Africa, a country in transition, is characterised by drastic policy shifts in the social,
economic and political arenas. These policy shifts are also directed towards educational reform.
The South African Schools Act of 1996 is the first step towards educational change. Other
changes focus on the curriculum, new appraisal procedures for educators, and the establishment
of the South African Council for Educators. All of the above constitute a new working
paradigm for school principals.
This study sought to determine the influence of this changing school environment on school
principals. It looked at how principals perceive the change and examines the impact of change
on their management role.
A literature study was made of the restructuring process in the USA and in England and Wales.
The transformation of the South African education system was also examined.
A qualitative investigation was pursued with secondary school principals. Data gathering was
done through participant-observation, questionnaires and in-depth interviews. Data was
analysed, discussed and later synthesised.
The major findings with respect to the SA Schools Act are:

The lack of capacity of governing body members to participate meaningfully at
meetings.
Principals believe the ban on corporal punishment has weakened their authority.
* School fees and fundraising pose a problem to some principals.
* Most principals welcome the code of conduct for learners.

The Diploma Thesis deals with the banking crisis and aims to account for different approaches to the understanding of the nature of banking crisis. The Thesis further aims to provide answers why the banking crisis are caused and why so far there are no measures that would effectivelly prevent such crisis. At first, the Thesis states the definition of banking with the emphasis on banks as the institutional backbone of the current functioning of the financial system. The Thesis pays specific attention to the characteristics of two basic legal banking instruments, particulary loans and deposits. While acknowledging the loan expansion, the thesis argues the role of regulatory authorities and the limits of their competences in regards to the prevention of crisis. Followingly, the Thesis offers a view on a banking crisis phenomenon with appropriate historical overview outlining the banking crisis in Czechoslovakia in years 1918 to 1939 and after 1989, the loan expension influence on the business cycles and approaches to banking crisis solving in respect to stabilization of the banking system and restructuring of banks. At last but not least, the Thesis sums up the global financial crisis that started as a banking crisis, respectively as a crisis of one segment of the banking market in the United States...

Im ersten Aufsatz dieser Dissertation analysiere ich, wie sich ein negativer Arbeitsmarktnachfrage-Schock auf Fertilität auswirkt. Ich analysiere dies anhand des ostdeutschen Fertilitätsrückgangs nach dem Mauerfall und nutze unerwartete, exogene, und permanente Anpassungen der Arbeitsnachfrage, welche von industriellen Restrukturierungsprozessen resultierten. Ostdeutsche Frauen, die stärker vom negativen Arbeitsnachfrage-Schock betroffen waren, haben in den 1990er Jahren relativ mehr Kinder bekommen als jene Frauen, die von dem Schock weniger stark betroffen waren. Der Schock hat somit nicht nur das aggregierte Fertilitätsniveau gesenkt, sondern auch die Zusammensetzung der Mütter beeinflusst.
Der zweite Aufsatz untersucht den Einfluss staatlicher Hilfen auf den späteren ökonomischen Erfolg junger Flüchtlinge. Wir untersuchen dies anhand von ostdeutschen Flüchtlingen, die von 1946 bis 1961 nach Westdeutschland geflohen sind. Nur „politische Flüchtlinge“ hatten ab 1953 Anspruch auf Flüchtlingshilfen. Somit können wir Identifikations-Probleme adressieren, die durch Selektion entstehen. Es zeigen sich positive Effekte der Flüchtlingshilfen auf die Bildung, Jobs, und das Einkommen von Flüchtlingen, die als junge Erwachsene migriert sind. Wir finden keine vergleichbaren Effekte für Flüchtlinge, die als Kinder migriert sind.
Das letzte Kapitel präsentiert Ergebnisse eines Projektes, das partiell die Lücke schließt, welche derzeit für Ostdeutsche in den deutschen Sozialversicherungsdaten existiert. Durch die Verknüpfung letzterer mit dem „Datenspeicher Gesellschaftliches Arbeitsvermögen“ der DDR von 1989 haben wir einen neuen Datensatz geschaffen, welcher Analysen von Phänomenen wie Arbeitslosigkeit, beruflicher und regionaler Mobilität ermöglicht. Der neue Datensatz kann auch dazu beitragen, das existierende Wissen über die individuellen Arbeitsmarktkonsequenzen des Mauerfalls zu erweitern. / In the first essay of this dissertation, I analyze how a negative labor demand shock impacts fertility. I analyze this question in the context of the East German fertility decline after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. I exploit differential pressure for restructuring across East German industries which led to unexpected, exogenous, and permanent changes to labor demand. I find that throughout the 1990s, women more severely impacted by the demand shock had relatively more children than their less-severely-impacted counterparts. Thus, the demand shock not only depressed the aggregate fertility level, but also changed the composition of mothers.
The second essay explores the question of how refugee-specific aid impacts the medium-term economic success of young refugees. We address this question in the context of German Democratic Republic (GDR) refugees who escaped to West Germany between 1946 and 1961, exploiting that only the subgroup of "political refugees" was granted refugee-targeted aid, and that this only occurred after 1953. The quasi-experiment allows us to address identification difficulties resulting from the fact that refugees eligible for aid are both self-selected and screened by local authorities. We find positive effects of aid-eligibility on educational attainment, job quality and income among the refugees who migrated as young adults. We do not find similar effects of aid-eligibility for refugees who migrated as children.
The final chapter of this thesis presents results of a project which partially closes a gap that currently exists for East Germans in the German social security data. By linking these data with the GDR's "Data Fund of Societal Work Power" from 1989, we have created a new data set that permits the analysis of phenomena such as unemployment, job mobility, and regional mobility. The new data set can also be used to refine existing knowledge of the individual-level labor market consequences of German reunification.

Previous issue date: 2012-05-30 / This is a study that aims to research the legal content that establish the legal
relationship of the registry of goodwill on the acquisition of equity on a controlled
company, and the possibility to depreciate from income tax calculation basis the
goodwill registered on the acquisition, when of the amalgamation of the acquired
company due to a merger or spin-off. It was analyzed the construction of the legal
texts in comparison with the accounting standards currently adopted by the Brazilian
accounting system, followed by the recent changes influenced by worldwide
modifications on these rules. The premise of a closed, autonomous and independent
system of laws was taken in consideration without the existence of dialogism and
Intertextuality between the science of law and accounting science. Thus were
examined normative tax assumptions in order to compare it with corporate law and
accounting records. Since no changes were identified on tax laws on this subject,
were analyzed the structures and limits of the possibilities of register, measurement
and amortization of the goodwill for tax purposes. Considering the facts and the legal
aspects that could justify the possibility to apply the rules related to the amortization
of goodwill, it was verified the importance of the theory of evidence to each specific
case. Finally, it was analyzed if the main administrative court decisions on the subject
that can be related to the discussions here taken / O estudo tem como objetivo a investigação das hipóteses normativas que
estabelecem a relação jurídica do registro de ágio no momento da aquisição de
participação societária em sociedade controlada ou coligada, bem como a
possibilidade de amortização da base de cálculo do imposto sobre a renda do ágio
gerado na aquisição em caso de posterior incorporação do patrimônio de sociedade
adquirida em virtude de operações societárias de incorporação, fusão ou cisão.
Investigou-se a construção das referidas hipóteses normativas frente à mudança de
padrões de contabilidade atualmente adotados pelo sistema contábil brasileiro,
seguindo-se a tendência mundial dessas alterações, e mudanças legislativas
recentes. Partiu-se da premissa do direito como um sistema fechado, autônomo e
independente sem se olvidar da existência do dialogismo e da intertextualidade entre
a ciência do direito e a ciência contábil. Analisou-se, assim, as hipóteses normativas
fiscais de forma comparativa aos preceitos estabelecidos pela legislação societária e
os registros contábeis. E, não tendo sido alterada a legislação fiscal sobre o assunto,
buscou-se, a partir da análise da estrutura normativa, estabelecer os limites e os
contornos das hipóteses que veiculam as possibilidades de registro, mensuração e
amortização do ágio para fins fiscais. Considerando-se, ainda, a necessária relação
entre os fatos descritos no antecedente das hipóteses normativas e a realidade
fática, para o fim de se identificar o fenômeno da subsunção do fato à hipótese
normativa descrita, capaz de ensejar a possibilidade de amortização do ágio gerado
na aquisição, verificou-se a importância da Teoria das Provas para o deslinde de
cada caso concreto. Por fim, analisou-se as principais decisões administrativas
