Variation and interactional non-standardization in neuropsychological tests: The case of the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination

Jones, Danielle K., Wilkinson, R., Jackson, C., Drew, P. 25 September 2019 (has links)
Yes / The Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination (ACE-111) is a neuropsychological test used in clinical practice to inform a dementia diagnosis. The ACE-111 relies on standardized administration so that patients’ scores can be interpreted by comparison with normative scores. The test is delivered and responded to in interaction between clinicians and patients, which places talk-in-interaction at the heart of its administration. In this article, conversation analysis (CA) is used to investigate how the ACE-111 is delivered in clinical practice. Based on analysis of 40 video/audio-recorded memory clinic consultations in which the ACE-111 was used, we have found that administrative standardization is rarely achieved in practice. There was evidence of both (a) interactional variation in the way the clinicians introduce the test and (b) interactional non-standardization during its implementation. We show that variation and interactional non-standardization have implications for patients’ understanding and how they might respond to particular questions. / Partially funded by a grant by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) under its Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) Program (Grant Reference Number PB-PG-0211-24079).

Padronização do Direito em tempos de grande encarceramento: os influxos da nova ordem global / Law standardization in large incarceration times: the inflows of the new global order.

Daniel Cardoso dos Reis 25 August 2014 (has links)
This study aims to analyze some consequences of the new global order and the neoliberalism influence inBrazilian legal system. It will be demonstrated that the values suggested even though this suggestion is, in fact, an obligation by the World Bank, through his paranormative activity, are incorporated by the Brazilian legal system through changes in procedure law, which focus only in quantitative justice. These reforms, added to others factors, such as the growth in the number of cases led to the judiciary, the economy influence in law analysis, the equivocate, unreflective and mechanic comprehension and use of the previously set foundation of judicial decisions, the poor quality law education and the judges submission to the Courts, result in a standardized jurisdiction. Simultaneously, the encarcerated population has grown swiftly, phenomenon that can be related to neoliberalism values widespread and to the weakening of the welfare state.Considering this scenario, as a way to approximate theory and practice of the law and to allow the opening of penal law to exterior facts,it is proposed reductive functional penal law dogmatic, so that penal law can act like a dike that holds the police state that hibernate within every constitutional state. Common Test and Training Range Architecture

Pace, Richard, Walters, Charles E. 11 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 30-November 02, 1995 / Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada / To address the concerns of a declining defense budget, duplicate range capabilities, and applications of new technologies, the Deputy Director, Test Facilities and Resources, Test, Systems Engineering and Evaluation Directorate, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), initiated the Common Test and Training Range Architecture (CTTRA) Workshop project. The development of a common test and training range architecture requires a series of workshops designed to apply the expertise of the test and training ranges and the installed systems test facilities (ISTF) communities to the challenges of architecture development and interface standardization. A common range architecture with standardized interfaces will facilitate asset sharing between the Services, increase the industry-government dual-use potential of OSD's test and training range facilities, and lower the cost of testing. Further, common range interfaces will allow the efficient integration of new instrumentation and simulations at minimum cost. To support development of the CTTRA, there have been three workshops, each expanding the accomplishments of the previous workshop. The first workshop was conducted 20-22 April 1994. The other workshops were held 12-14 October 1994 and 21-24 February 1995. The goals of the workshop process are to: • Develop a common test and training range architecture that supports the requirements of the test, training, and installed systems test facility communities • Identify areas with the potential to yield near-term interface standardization benefits. • Identify potential OSD Central Test and Evaluation Investment Program (CTEIP) projects. Thus far, the workshops have developed a top level and second level candidate CTTRA, identified areas for interface standardization, and established standing working groups responsible for continuing development of CTTRA and selected areas for interface standardization.

Collaborative learning and the co-design of corporate responsibility : building a theory of multi-stakeholder network learning from case studies of standardization in corporate responsibility

McNeillis, Paul Matthew January 2009 (has links)
This thesis examines the collaborative development of corporate responsibility (CR) standards from the perspective of organisational learning theory. The author proposes that standards development projects can be understood as Network Learning episodes where learning is reflected in changes in structures, interpretations and practices accompanied by learning processes. Network Learning alone is seen as insufficient to reflect the diverse contributions and outcomes in the special case of CR standards. Concepts from multi-stakeholder learning like the role of dissensus in learning and the empowerment of weaker stakeholders are therefore used to create a synthesis of the two theories in a single conceptual framework. This framework is then tested against a pilot case and three case studies of corporate social responsibility (CSR) standards including the development of the new ISO international standard on social responsibility (SR). The data validates and extended this framework to yield a Multi-Stakeholder Network Learning theory capable of describing the how participants and non-participant stakeholders learn in this context. New concepts are generated from the data, like dislocated learning, which demonstrate how participants in the process and those they represent can experience quite different learning outcomes. Stakeholders whose learning is aligned with the learning of their participant representatives truly have a stake in these influential standards. However, where representatives fail to learn from those represented, the latter's stake is diminished. By shedding light on the mechanisms of effective collaborative learning this work contributes to learning theory, the practice of standardization and the normative stakeholder empowerment agenda.

Standardisering/anpassning som internationella marknadsföringsstrategier inom upplevelseindustrin

Gutman, Olga, Voeste, Heiko January 2014 (has links)

How to improve the inbound flow of an manufacturing company : Analyzing and refining the Customer-driven Purchasing method

Hedén, Eric, Tiedemann, Fredrik January 2014 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to analyze the CDP-method in order to develop and refine the method. The method is developed and presented in Bäckstrand (2012), with the aim to strengthen the competitiveness of manufacturing companies. Someone outside of the development context has never, until now and to the researchers knowledge, refined the method. Methodology: A multiple case study with four companies where used. The empirical data collected within the study where used to evaluate the CDP-method and to refine the method. The presented improvement is based on the empirical data and conceptual models developed from theory. Findings: Three improvements were developed. The first of them changed step 8 of the method, the second can´t be tied to a single step and is therefore an overall suggestion, whereas the third provides a new type of analysis within step 6 of the method. Research limitations: The research was conducted at companies where the CDP-method was already implemented. An implementation at a new company could possibly reveal another type of empirical data, which could be interpreted in a different way. The researchers have also detected areas that couldn’t be investigated within this research, these are identified and left for further research. Theoretical implications: Results from this thesis connect the classification of supply risk by Kraljic (1983) with supply chain strategy by Fisher (1997) to enable a new type of analysis. Furthermore, theory within the standardization and over-specification (e.g. Burt, Petcavage & Pinkerton, 2010; Geldeman & van Weele, 2002) is introduced and incorporated in the CDP-method. A third implication is a reinforced focus on strategy in combination with the CDP-method, which is based on theory regarding strategic alignment (e.g. Gattorna & Walter, 1996; Hines, 2004). Managerial implications: The new analysis should, together with the CDP-method as a whole, strengthen adopting companies supply chain and improve internal and external communication. Originality/value: This thesis provides a new set of analysis in the CDP-method that could benefit practitioners.

A Theory-Driven Approach To Tree-Ring Standardization: Defining The Biological Trend From Expected Basal Area Increment

Biondi, Franco, Qeadan, Fares 12 1900 (has links)
One of the main elements of dendrochronological standardization is removing the biological trend, i.e. the progressive decline of ring width along a cross-sectional radius that is caused by the corresponding increase in stem size and tree age over time. The ‘‘conservative’’ option for removing this biological trend is to fit a modified negative exponential curve (or a straight line with slope ≤ 0) to the ring-width measurements. This method is based on the assumption that, especially for open-grown and/or shade-intolerant species, annual growth rate of mature trees fluctuates around a specific level, expressed by a constant ring width. Because this method has numerical and conceptual drawbacks, we propose an alternative approach based on the assumption that constant growth is expressed by a constant basal area increment distributed over a growing surface. From this starting point, we derive a mathematical expression for the biological trend of ring width, which can be easily calculated and used for dendrochronological standardization. The proposed C-method is compared to other standardization techniques, including Regional Curve Standardization (RCS), of tree-ring width from ponderosa pines (Pinus ponderosa Douglas ex P.Lawson & C.Lawson) located at the Gus Pearson Natural Area (GPNA) in northern Arizona, USA. Master ring-index chronologies built from ring area, RCS, and C-method reproduced stand-wide patterns of tree growth at the GPNA, whereas other standardization options, including the ‘‘conservative’’ one, failed to do so. In addition, the C-method has the advantage of calculating an expected growth curve for each tree, whereas RCS is based on applying the same growth curve to all trees. In conclusion, the C-method replaces the purely empirical ‘‘conservative’’ option with a theory based approach, which is applicable to individual ring-width measurement series, does not require fitting a growth curve using nonlinear regression, and can be rigorously tested for improving tree-ring records of environmental changes.

L'ange et le monstre : esthétisation foetale et deuil d'enfant : le cas de l'interruption médicale de grossesse (I.M.G) / The angel and the monster : foetal esthetisation and mourning of child : the case of the medical interruption of pregnancy (M.I.P)

Boullier, Jean-François 23 January 2015 (has links)
This thesis analyses the evolution of imagination of the pregnancy for forty years as well as some of its social incidences. The science embryologist had installed since the 19 th century a realist tradition of presentation of the human foetus. During half of the 20 th, things seem to change. In 1970, the photographs of Lennart Nilsson in particular coloured, empowered, aestheticized and humanized the foetus. In France, the ‟anatomical foetus” saw itself besides out-of- the way of the museums, its image absent in in the ‟illustrated medical Larousse” and the textbooks of natural sciences. As for the foetus present in the contempory art, it is oversized or disgusting : what looks like mots of ‟real” foetus derealises. The haptonomy and certain technologies around the pregnancy are going to stress these modifications of the image of the foetus for the benefit of parental imagination. The social effects of the foetal idealization are varied. The humanisation of the ‟beautiful foetus” making ugly anomaly, the maternal obsession of the ‟foetal monster” is more interiorized and discorders work in foetal medicine. Their refusal of anomaly becoming more implicit, doctors and parents adopt an euphemized language. But, even the image of the aborted foetus fallen through humanizes. It becomes moving. When a foetus is condemned, it will thus have to be repaired concretely and symbolically. The nursing who invite the relatives to see the foetus after his death will present him as a sleeping baby, repaired by his deformations. Certain mother especially when they envisage a new pregnancy, represent him then as an angel, this angel become omnipresent on the Internet forums. This dispositf questions the contemporary societies : the specialists of foetal medicine are faced with certain parents refusing the birth of a child affected by deformations without gravity. In the miror of their baby appears an unspeakable : the horror of an expanding foetus of anomaly. Does not the esthetisation make the imagination of the anomaly all the more powerful as they do not have more space other than the heart of hearts to spread ?

Lean management : Ett sätt att minimera matsvinn i livsmedelsbutiker / Lean management : A way to minimize food waste in grocery stores

Olsson, Fredrik, Donatella, Dominic, Hansson, Jonatan January 2017 (has links)
Nyckelord: Lean, / Food waste is today a subject of large interest and a lot of work is currently being done to handle this issue. The aim of this study is therefore to give a contribution to the problem solving in this area from a lean management perspective. The study is limited to “ICA nära Bredaryds” department for cured meat and provisions. By identifying the underlying issues of food waste in connection with investigating how lean principles can handle these, the study aims to form long-term and strategic solutions on how to minimize waste in food shops. The two main causes of food waste that have been identified in the study are the variation in customer demand and the variation in how the staff perform their work. In order for the food shop to handle these two problems, two solutions have been suggested. In order to handle the variation in demand, the mindset of lean thinking should be implemented. By working with the lean thinking cycle and continuously eliminating waste and at the same time develop a pull system the variation in demand can be handled, which in turn will reduce the food waste. To handle the variation in workflow, standardized work methods should be implemented. Directing the staff to work the same way will reduce the variation in how the work is performed, which in turn will generate reduced food waste.
