For this, this study tried to understand how women involved in situations of violence, as victims or aggressors are shown on the TV news, usually considered a mirror of society. Justifies the importance of this study because prior to the appearance of the vehicles of mass communication, the individual built its knowledge and, consequently, yours opinion, through the experiences lived, in a real way, in institutions such as family, church or school. The capitalist routine imposed on men and women of different ages and socioeconomic classes a routine punctuated of appointments, which significantly decreased interpersonal contact. At the same time, the media, driven by technology, became omnipresent, imposing concepts and prejudgements.

This master’s thesis is supported by communication studies on narrative and social representations. These concepts have been applied to television, understood, understood as nationwide vehicle that enters the viewers in the same media space. But even as a mass medium, it provides the dissemination of specific or regional knowledge. This is the case of programs for people who live and work in rural communities. This portion of the population, representing the diversity Brazilian culture is present in the media. And it is portrayed over the years both in journalistic productions - either as target audience and/or as an agenda - as the fictional productions of television stations open. From the understanding of concepts and approaches, it is proposed, then the characterization of how journalism uses the reports characteristic of fictional productions to represent the "man of the field". The corpus of the research are issues of “Globo Rural”, appears weekly by Rede Globo. Through content methodology of the Content Analysis, we explore three editions of the program to detect the construction of field workers as characters of the stories. The analysis of issues led to results that show similarities between provincials types present in fiction and journalism and the presence of narrative elements in common, such as the description of scenarios, camera framing and scripting reporter text.

The future of local television news: Is there a possible strategic planning approach?

Slocum, Phyllis R. 08 1900 (has links)
This study compared the characteristic of strategic planning as used in the corporate world with the planning process used in a sample of television news departments. The purpose was to determine if commonalities exist; in what circumstances, and whether techniques and approaches used for many years by businesses could advance the process of planning in the fast-paced environment of local television news. In-depth interviews were conducted with a sample of highly experienced local news managers. The results indicated some similarities in planning approaches but suggested significant differences in how the two industries approach key elements of traditional strategic planning. The primary conclusion drawn from the research suggests the local television news industry has informally adapted strategic planning processes to their needs with heavy emphasis on tactical execution.

The Role of Social Media Journalists in TV News:Their Effects on the Profession and Identity of TV Journalism, the Quality of News, and theAudience Engagement

AL Yousufi, Yousuf Humiad 28 June 2019 (has links)
Spurred by the rapid influence of social media in the news industry, an increased number of TV news stations have started assigning dedicated social media journalists (SMJ) in newsrooms to monitor, gather, verify, share news, and engage with audiences on the streams of social media. Consequently, drawing on the diffusion of innovation theory, the present study probes into TV journalists’ perceptions of the implications of the role of this new type of TV professionals in the identity and profession of journalism, the quality of news pertaining to the verification of misinformation, and the news audiences’ attractions and viewership by capitalizing on audience engagement affordances. Moreover, based on an online survey delivered primarily via LinkedIn to a broad spectrum of TV journalists consisting of broadcast, website, and social media journalists in three varied regions of the world—the U.S, Western Europe, and the Middle East—the study demonstrates some concerns about the effects on the code of ethics of journalism. However, most of the surveyed journalists believed that the role of social media journalists SMJ is consistent with the general principles tethered to the professional identity of journalists. Additionally, the study underlines the weight of this role to verify information gleaned from social media before being used in TV news and asserts the significance of engaging with TV audiences to increase the news viewership and enhance their attractions. Accordingly, the study argues that espousing the role of SMJ has become an inevitable fashion in social media-embedded newsrooms. However, the research documents that many TV news channels have broadcast misinformation spread on social media. Furthermore, it unfolds that far less attention has been paid in many TV newsrooms to the potentially positive and beneficial utility of the role of SMJ concerning audience engagement. It signals that a lack of time, tools, strategy, and training causes the dilution of the role quality of SMJ, thereby suggesting that news channels can aggressively tap into this role if these obstacles are conquered. Finally, since research on this concern is still scant at its initial stage, the study shows some venues for future studies in this direction.

Documentary:TV news cameraman:Open eyes

Lee, Kevin H.J Unknown Date (has links)
The documentary named “Eye on the Left” is literally telling a true story about four TV news cameramen whose life careers in Taiwan were too short, too long, too harsh and too slow. We always said the reporters are the King without Crown, but the truth is, they are little more than a group of beggars sitting in front of the Special Investigation Division all day long, begging for an opportunity to capture the certain person interview by the prosecutor for finding their individual counseling which the content of length is only less than 5 seconds. Thing can be worse that reporters were forced to make a series of nice-looking paid news in order to fulfill the commercial buyers' demand sometimes. As a professional reporter who have been dedicated his prime 15 years to TV news reporting and videos taking, he might ask himself, “what is the most significant thing during my career?” For a long time, the TV news which offer to audiences daily is manipulated by not only but several human interferences and condensed selectively, the truth behind the scene is very hard to reveal to the public. However, in this documentary, we can understand apparently the fact about how the commercial TV company produce the “paid news” which they are just cannot say no to the buyers. And how these TV news cameramen witness and face the historical scenes they encounter in the front line. If we consider that the TV media as an uncompleted jigsaw puzzle, the “TV news cameraman” and the “Process of News Reporting” are undoubtedly the last two essential pieces to assemble together. “Eye on the left”, just put all of them back to their right positions in the best time.

The challenge of achieving impartiality in Maltese TV news programming

Spiteri, Joanna January 2014 (has links)
This study examines some of the challenges that Maltese broadcasting is facing with respect to the news programming produced by the public service broadcaster and by the other two political stations. The thesis also investigates the concepts of balance and objectivity in news reporting and analyzes the extent to which Maltese TV news programmes succeed in providing balanced, impartial and accurate accounts. Special attention is paid to the role of the public service broadcaster, but consideration is also given to the part played by the two Maltese political stations competing with the public service broadcaster. A particular aim of this study is to measure how the requirement to preserve impartiality and balance impinges on the content of TV news bulletins and current affairs programmes produced by PSB and the other two political stations. The study will also consider the impact of current broadcasting regulations and will examine the degree to which such legislation is relevant in the attempt to achieve impartiality and balance in Maltese news broadcasting. As a basis for the study the thesis focuses on a sample of news programming material broadcast on the three television stations in Malta during a Local Council electoral campaign. The aim is to assess how various news messages are communicated to audiences and to consider whether such messages are perceived as impartial and balanced by the viewers. The study explores how news workers and news producers strive to achieve impartiality and balance in their day-to-day practices. Finally the thesis makes one or two tentative suggestions as to how current broadcasting legislation might be amended in order for the Broadcasting Authority can become a more effective watchdog and is able to intervene in cases where news programming is not deemed to be balanced and impartial.

In spite of the creation of public journalism celebrating two decades in the United States, the concept is ignored and disbelieved for some. The public journalism, which emerged as a movement by American journalists, was focused on the reunion of journalism with democratic principles and ethics in all the news production, and not necessarily proposing a new format or a new category of journalism. Act that way, however, requires more than just good intentions or good will, since the journalistic output was hampered by diverse interests of the company that manages it. Thus, the study conducted here takes into account the political and economic contexts in which public journalism was practiced, as well as professional and technological conditions for its development, using for this, the concepts discussed in the theories of journalism and agenda-setting newsmaking / Este trabalho aborda a proposta de jornalismo público implantada pela TV Cultura, bem como os percalços encontrados nesta década de sua implantação.
