Previous issue date: 2009-12-10 / The goal of this study was to verify the capacity of optimism, social support and work values as being predictors of subjective well-being, as well as to analyze the relations of the demographic variables with this study s variables, describe them and examine the relations between them. The sample consisted of 47 men and 101 women with average age of 41 years (SD = 10,72) who sought for help in an institution for their professional transition. The gathering data instrument was an auto fill questionnaire composed by five measures included in the study: optimism, perception of social support, work values, general satisfaction with life and positive and negative affects, as well as demographic variable: sex, age, studies, volunteering, work, marital status and time at the institution. Descriptive statistic analyses were done, differences between averages, correlations and variable analyses were tested and models of linear regressions were calculated. The relations among study variables and demographic variables revealed that people who do not study notice to have more practical support (tangible and appraisal supports) and give more importance to motivations of auto-promotion and prestige than the ones who study. The youngest aging up to 30 report that they notice having more emotional and practical support (tangible and appraisal supports) than the oldest ones. With the advance of age, the perceptions of emotional and social support decrease, however people older than 50 revealed less negative affect and more satisfaction with life than the youngest. Married individuals revealed to give less importance than separated, divorced and widowers, etc. to the stability at work and financial security; single individuals revealed to have more negative affects than married ones. Men related to feel more satisfied with life, to have more positive affects and less negative affects than women. The ones who do volunteer work revealed to be more optimistic and to have less negative affects than the ones who don t. Data revealed that the researched have a good level of optimism and a perception of emotional support higher than the perception of practical support (tangible and appraisal supports); they are motivated mainly by goals of achievement at work and by stability and financial security; they feel indifferent towards satisfaction with life; present positive affects a little above indifference, however they feel little negative affects. Deriving from this, a little more than two thirds of the investigated present prevailing of emotional positive state over the negative. The optimism was the variable which established more and higher associations; it positively correlated with values of achievement at work, with values of social relations, with values of prestigious work, with satisfaction with life and positive affects; and it negatively correlated with negative affects. The perception of emotional support positively correlated with values of prestige, positive affects and with satisfaction with life; and correlated negatively with negative affects. The perception of practical support (tangible and appraisal supports) did not present significant correlations with any study variable. Positive affects positively correlated with work values of social relations and with values of prestigious work. From the analyses of three predictive models it was found that optimism and emotional support echoes positively over satisfaction with life and positive affects. Optimism echoes negatively over negative affects. Values of prestigious work echoes positively over positive affects. Stability values echo negatively over satisfaction with life and positive affects; and positively over negative affects. The results of this study have shown that the optimistic state is a powerful positive impact factor over the health state called subjective well-being.(AU) / Este estudo teve por objetivo verificar a capacidade de otimismo, de suporte social e de valores do trabalho serem preditores de bem estar subjetivo, bem como analisar as relações de variáveis demográficas com essas variáveis de estudo, descrevê-las e examinar as relações entre elas.

Previous issue date: 2016-02-18 / This work comprises a longitudinal study that sought to analyze volunteers through the prism
of the motivational factors of expectation, entrance, stay and exit from the Fundação Cidade
Viva in the City of João Pessoa / PB. As the final product, we expected to provide
information relevant to this institution on its praxis. Thus, it was used as the basis of theory of
Structural Model of Motivation at Work Volunteer by Cavalcante (2012). It was then carried
out an exploratory case study that designed quantitative questionnaires which were tabulated
and evaluated by descriptive statistics and other tests such as the T test for independent
samples and ANOVA (one way). As a result, it was detailed as the profile of the volunteers of
the institution the prevalence of adult and married women in their 35 years, with monthly
income above R$ 5,000.00. The pointed minimum education level was unfinished higher
education. Usually a family member and / or friend have already performed volunteer work or
currently does. Commonly they have participated in this type of work at another institution,
but not at present time. It confirmed the hypothesis that voluntary motivations change with
the passage of time, and analyzes suggests the possibility of conflict between the expectations
of volunteers and the performance of this activity, because the indexes obtained as motivation
compared in the four moments indicate that they fall moderately in the first year of operation
to grow again since then. Furthermore, religion has emerged as the main tool to attract and
maintain the workforce of the institution at issue which does not exclude the importance of
other elements such as civic bias, learning objectives or identification with the organization,
but suggests that the organization studied should pay attention to the religious element as its
mainstay in their internal human resources policies.
A escolaridade

Those Who Are Not Motivated by Money : A Quantitative Study About What Motivates Volunteer Work in Second Hand StoresJosefsson, Rebecka, Nilsson, Isak January 2018 (has links)
Motivating people for volunteer work is a growing challenge for many nonprofit organizations. In order to be able to retain volunteers in an organization in the longer term, it is fundamental to understand what motivates them. In this quantitative study, the purpose was to investigate what motivates individuals to work as volunteers in a second-hand business. A strategic selection resulted in seven stores in which 181 questionnaires were collected, a response rate of 91 percent. The results showed, among other things, that volunteers were motivated by both altruistic and selfish reasons. The positive social aspects of volunteering were frequently mentioned as the main motivation. Furthermore, there were several connections between feeling respected as a volunteer and feeling proud of being part of the organization. These both served as motivating reasons. One of the conclusions was that volunteering contributes to improved social conditions and a sense of meaningfulness for the volunteers themselves.

Of women in judo clubs management : glass ceiling and gender social relationships in the Catalan cross-border areaLeglise, Eva 09 October 2017 (has links)
For the past few years, successive governments and national sports associations have developed a proactive policy as regards equality and parity in sports. What is the real impact of these schemes, actions and recommendations? Jointly carried out in the Pyrénées-Orientales (French region of Languedoc-Roussillon) and within the Autonomous Community of Gerone (Calalonia), our study concentrates on volunteer women’s access to positions of responsibility in local sports clubs. Using the results of a field study made in the Catalan cross-border area, this thesis provides a comprehensive assessment of the position and experience of women leaders in judo clubs. We consider that this comparison is relevant both on scientific and political levels since it allows to understand cultural continuities of gender relations in sports. Moreover, we will also consider the differences linked to the national background and to the consequences of public policies. From monographs of clubs chosen on both sides of the border, we will try and describe the positions and career paths of women managers, but also how their volunteer investment was sometimes held back. In this respect, not only we will compare how these women have reached their leading positions (career, family life, sport capital, clubs operation…) but also we will understand how they themselves consider their duties. Given a fierce competition strongly associated with the values of virility, how do women succeed in breaking the glass ceiling? Is it possible to distinguish between enabling factors or identical brakes, according to the country?Eventually, this thesis provides a combined analysis of gender social relations in sports clubs and a comparison to better understand the respective consequences of political and institutional contexts on the purpose of this study.

[pt] O TRABALHO VOLUNTÁRIO DE REINSERÇÃO SOCIAL JUNTO A PESSOAS EM SITUAÇÃO DE RUA: UM ESTUDO SOB A PERSPECTIVA DA ANÁLISE DA CONVERSA / [en] THE VOLUNTEER WORK OF SOCIAL REINTEGRATION OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS: A STUDY THROUGH THE CONVERSATION ANALYSIS PERSPECTIVECARLA MIRELLE DE OLIVEIRA M LISBOA 23 September 2019 (has links)
[en] The study of professional practice in the field of social work focuses on the action of those trained in social services. However, particularly from the second half of the 1970s, along side the emergence of the third sector, the struggle for social care provision has opened up the possibility for citizens to engage in community service projects by supporting those who are socially vulnerable. Intending to fulfill this gap, this study focus is contributing to improving the comprehension of social reintegration practices performed by volunteers. In order to do so, the interaction between volunteers from the Social Approach Group of the
Soup Group of Niterói and people experiencing homelessness was analyzed through the theoretical-methodological approach of Conversation Analysis. The results reveal the overall structural organization of the interaction, identifying the steps of this work (beginning of the approach, probing, propositional conduction, and closure) as well as the (micro) actions that occur in each step. The research also points to the centralization of the offers in propositional conductions, separating the delicate offers, which present unpreferred format, from the non-delicate ones, which are performed in a preferred format. Based on the analysis, it is possible to identify some practices that are more or less effective to achieve the interactional
goals.

Who is this about? : A multimodal critical discourse analysis of the communication from volunteer organizationsAlmkvist Lundberg, Ewa, Flood, Nadja January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how three volunteer organizations present volunteer projects on their websites to identify who is constructed as central in the description of the project and which role is created for the reader. This study uses Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis (MCDA), Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) and Post-colonial theory as a theoretical framework to analyze visual and textual elements from three project descriptions. The findings indicate that the project descriptions of two of the organizations highlight the volunteer worker, while at the same time using a tourism discourse in creating the reader’s role. The findings also show that the third organization highlights the beneficiaries of the volunteer work, while creating the reader role of a friend. Additionally, the findings indicate the existence of underlying collective beliefs that can be connected to post-colonial structures in two of the project descriptions but not in the third. The conclusion is that who is highlighted, and the role created for the reader, differ between the three organizations. Two of the organizations focus more on the volunteer worker, and this coincides with the occurrence of Othering. The third organization focus more on the beneficiaries, with no occurrence of Othering.
