[en] LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING: NARRATIVE AND IDENTITY BUILDING IN THE SPEECH OF A TOURIST GUIDE / [pt] QUERO DIZER PRA VOCÊS: NARRATIVA E CONSTRUÇÃO DE IDENTIDADE NA FALA DE UM GUIA TURÍSTICOTATIANA FERREIRA SA ANTUNES 18 October 2004 (has links)
social e cultural, mostrando nosso pertencimento a
determinados grupos sociais, e nos posicionando diante
dos
outros participantes da interação (Bastos, no prelo), a
análise da construção de identidade baseia-se nos
posicionamentos (Davies e Harré, 1980) assumidos pelo
guia
inclusão no Sudeste.
(Albuquerque Jr., 2001). / [en] Adopting a sociointeractional approach to discourse
analysis, this dissertation aims to study the construction
of identity in the narratives of a tourist guide of a fort,
in the state of Paraíba. In addition, the present work
investigates how the identity constructed affiliates to the
cultural identity of Paraíba. The narratives were collected
during a guide tour in the fort, and a subsequent research
interview. The basis for analysis is the notion that
narratives situate us in a social and cultural context,
showing how we belong to certain social groups, and
positioning ourselves before other interactants (Bastos, in
the press). The construction of identity is examined
through the consideration of the positionings (Davies and
Harré, 1980) taken by the guide, and the relations
established between the narrator and the characters, and
between the characters themselves (Linde, 1993). The
identity emerging in the spontaneous narratives is from a
powerless guy, although he may seem integrated to a
powerful group of teachers at Paraíba. In the elicited
narratives, the identity of champion is not enough to
avoid migration to Rio de Janeiro, in search of social
inclusion in Southeast. The migration ratifies the guide`s
affiliation to a stereotyped cultural identity of Paraíba,
traditionally defined by poverty and undevelopment, in
contrast to power and modernity of Rio de Janeiro
(Albuquerque Jr., 2001).

[en] (RE)CONSTRUCTION OF SECRETARIES PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY: A STUDY OF LIFE STORIES / [pt] A (RE)CONSTRUÇÃO DA IDENTIDADE PROFISSIONAL DE SECRETÁRIA: UM ESTUDO DE ESTÓRIAS DE VIDAFABIANE LUCENA CAVALCANTE 18 October 2010 (has links)
[en] This dissertation discusses the impact of interpersonal relationships and
activities performed at work in the (re)construction of professional identities,
focusing on life story narratives of of Executive Assistants. Therefore, individual
interviews were conducted with six secretaries of the Presidency and Vice
Presidency of large, small, public and private companies, in the city of Rio de
Janeiro. Under an interactional perspective and the narrative theory proposed by
Linde (1993), this study investigates how evaluations, chronicles and explanations
are used as linguistic features that convey coherence to these Executive
Assistants’ career paths. The results indicate the importance of issues such as
gender, age and physical appearance for the composition of a secretarial profile,
as well as they highlight the discussion of issues such as mandatory academic
training for insertion in the secretarial work, autonomy, status, power and social
prestige of this profession.

[en] BRAZIL BEYOND ANYTHING! NARRATIVE AND IDENTITY CONSTRUCTION : THE COMBATANT PARATROOPER ON BRAZILIAN ARMY / [pt] BRASIL ACIMA DE TUDO! NARRATIVA E CONSTRUÇÃO DE IDENTIDADES: O COMBATENTE PÁRA-QUEDISTA DO EXÉRCITO BRASILEIRODANIELA CALDEIRA BRUNO 10 March 2011 (has links)
[en] This thesis investigates the process of identity construction of paratrooper
officers serving the Brazilian Army with special attention to narratives of life
history. The corpus of data was generated through interviews carried out by the
researcher with 10 paratrooper officers stationed in the 26th Parachute Infantry
Battalion , besides another interview with an officer who had served in the
battalion. Taking a vision of speech as a form of social action; identity as a
socioconstructed, relational, dynamic, situated, fluid, contextual and procedural
phenomenon; narrative as a situated construction of the experience, guided by the
narrator s affective filters through which he/she organizes his personal experience
inscribed in the social order, the investigation focused at the processes of
identities construction of individuals who practice, experience and share a code of
values in a particular context: the paratrooper community of the Brazilian Army.
Also, the researched aimed at understanding how the paratroopers make use of
such values to develop parts of their autobiographies taking into account the
contemporary scene in which their lives occur. The focus of the analysis rests on
the dynamics between social and individual agency, enabling the dialogue
between the social context and subjectivity. In the analysis, special attention was
given to the construction of the point of such narratives, as well as the
instantiation of evaluations and resolutions. In turn, these narratives are
responsible for building the paratrooper set of beliefs, once they repeatedly
reaffirm and sustain the values shared among the community studied. The
researcher discussed the coercive forces of the group in the construction of
collective identities of its members and how these forces require performances of
identity at the same time that they provide group members with both a sense of
belonging and the security of believing knowing who they are. It was noticed that
among the coercive forces active in the paratrooper community, marked mainly
by the evidence of the physical, emotional and moral attributes valued in that
ecology, that the act of narrating and summing up past experiences and
achievements rises a sense of self, expressed vividly by the narrators in the stories
they tell. The paratroopers are built as main and heroic characters in their own
narratives. This notion of socioconstructed self was understood as a dramatic
effect arising from the narrative action. It is during the sociointeractional
performance, that is, the vivid and pulsating narrative scene, that the paratroopers
show ontological sensations and existential feelings, understanding themselves as
professionals driven by the paratroopers’ ideals whose attributes of superiority,
they say, are intended to their most precious possession, the latter understood by
paratroopers as the unconditional willingness to defend and maintain national
integrity.

[en] Materially or symbolically built, imagined over the course of their histories, cities produce dynamics of social interactions between people and groups-that through the interactions create a diversity of cultures and ways of living them, where the modern school of conservative features, on behalf of scholarly knowledge be preserved and transferred, or even in the name of order-oriented training in the world of work traditionally by dictat deleted of the educational process in schools. Against this trend, the present study comprises the major cities, with its contradictions, social inequalities and their diversity should be understood as a field of possibilities within which people produce identities and narratives based on their life experiences. The carioca urban setting is configured, as well as a diverse space where clashes and disputes are revealed by varied meanings of individual and of society. On the basis of their historical specificities and characteristics inherent to life in big cities, constitutes itself as a space where social and cultural relations to redefine from the varied possibilities of experiences that the everyday situations in place. Different regions of the city are characterized as products and producers of social relations, where social ties are established, on the basis of which identification environments are created and otherness among individuals and groups who make various uses of their territory-as well as produce ideas and images of the city as a whole. Thus, the present study aimed to understand the relationship of young residents of Rio de Janeiro suburbs with the city space, seeking to verify that the social situations, in the specific context under investigation might interfere with-according to the narratives of respondents-in building a shared sense of urban experience (s) (s); in other words, can produce a relatively shared feeling than be live on city; well as may interfere in their expectations of life.

[en] TRANSMEDIA STORYTELLING: CREATING STORIES IN THE ERA OF MEDIA CONVERGENCE / [pt] NARRATIVAS TRANSMIDIÁTICAS: CRIANDO HISTÓRIAS NA ERA DA CONVERGÊNCIA DOS MEIOSMARIANA CASTRO DIAS 15 March 2017 (has links)
[en] As we live in a world of information overload and media convergence, more and more entertainment producers and brands try to find their consumers in every platform they can. Redundant content doesn t contribute anything to audience experience, unlike a well-built transmedia narrative that can offer interesting content that instigates gathering among media to learn more about a story. The objective of this dissertation is to think the narrative act through many platforms in an integrated way, in order to create complementary and relevant content. To achieve this, it has become necessary to clarify the term transmedia storytelling clouded due to its use by media and academy, which often confuse it with branding or digital media. Fundamental elements were analyzed for the development of this type of narrative and case studies were done, covering the Pemberley Digital series, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved and the social series produced in an Intel and Toshiba partnership, Inside, The Beauty Inside and The Power Inside.

[pt] CIÊNCIA E POÉTICA: UM ESTUDO GENEALÓGICO SOBRE A FRONTEIRA DOS CAMPOS NARRATIVOS / [en] SCIENCE AND POETIC: A GENEALOGICAL STUDY REGARDING THE NARRATIVE FIELDS FRONTIER16 September 2021 (has links)
[en] The object of study in this research is the topics of representation and narrativity in the human sciences, starting from a comparison with the field of the theory of art. The hypothesis proposed here is that the classic notion of mimesis, which supported the theory of representation for a long time, went through a crisis with regards to its theoretical bases during the 19th and 20th centuries. After a series of theoretical interventions – in which I highlight the importance of romanticism, the perspective of social anthropology and linguistics – the mimetic paradigm loses its strength in favor of a theory of representation focusing on the dimension of language. My objective is to analyse the consequences this epistemological change has for the discursive regime that separated literature and the human sciences into opposite fields. As such, I intend to demonstrate that the scientific principle of rejecting poiesis obeys an obsolete conception of language, in which empiria and poetics are considered mutual threats.

[en] REVELATION AND HISTORY IN PAUL RICOEUR: TESTIMONY, MEMORY AND NARRATION / [pt] REVELAÇÃO E HISTÓRIA EM PAUL RICOEUR: TESTEMUNHO, MEMÓRIA E NARRAÇÃO21 September 2021 (has links)
[en] This research analyzes the concepts of Revelation and History in Paul Ricoeur, mediated by testimony, memory and narration. The method employed is dialectical, since the two themes are still on opposite sides of the modern debate. At the center of religious discourse, revelation subjects history to theological scrutiny. At the pole of philosophical discourse, historical criticism rejects the transcendental concepts of theology. The theme of Revelation is taken up in the philosopher s speech, not so much to submit historical criticism to the bent of theology, but to rescue the non-religious character of Revelation, which takes effect in the history of which man is the subject. For Ricoeur it is necessary that the theology of Revelation resume its original discourse, which is not in dogma and theological formulas, but in biblical discourses. Biblical speech forms designate the polyphony of founding testimonies of the Jewish and Christian religion. Testimonies inscribed in the collective memory of the Hebrew and Christian tradition, which found both traditions through narrative. Therefore, a dialectical understanding that puts the pole of faith and the pole of reason in dialogical tension is necessary; the horizon of history and the horizon of Revelation. The hermeneutics of testimony and narrative theory thus constitute the elements of dialectical mediation that, centered on the subjectivity of the historical and salvific experience of the modern subject, are capable of uniting history and Revelation in a dialectic of living meaning, both in the context of history and of theology.

[pt] A CONSTRUÇÃO NARRATIVA DE BARNABÉ COMO UM MODELO LITERÁRIO DE GENEROSIDADE À LUZ DE ATOS DOS APÓSTOLOS 4,32–5,11 / [en] THE NARRATIVE CONSTRUCTION OF BARNABAS AS A GENEROSITY LITERARY MODEL IN ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 4,32–5,11ALESSANDRA SERRA VIEGAS 05 January 2012 (has links)
[en] Firstly, Barnabas apparently seems to us as a secondary character in the text of Acts of the Apostles, appearing between the narratives dedicated to Peter and Paul. Therefore, studying more deeply the texts about this good, generous and welcoming man, we bump into his value to the development of Lucan’s second book narrative. This work intends to analyze Acts 4,32–5,11 to present the narrative construction of Barnabas as a literary model of generosity and kindness, who has a communicative message to his listener-lector. At the same time, there is the possible use of Greek elements, by the author of Acts, from the Literature and the Historiography since Homer to the Hellenistic period while he composes his work and Barnabas, using the Greek narrative way.

[pt] IDENTIDADES EM (TRANS)FORMAÇÃO: ANÁLISE DE NARRATIVAS TESTEMUNHAIS DO PROGRAMA VÍCIO TEM CURA / [en] IDENTITIES IN (TRANS)FORMATION: ANALYSIS OF TESTIMONIAL NARRATIVES FROM THE PROGRAM VÍCIO TEM CURADOUGLAS FIRMINO DOS SANTOS 06 June 2022 (has links)
[en] This dissertation pursues the understanding of how self-appointed former addicts create intelligibility about themselves and the world by telling their life stories (re)signifying past experiences, (re)designing present and future and abandoning, manufacturing and claiming identities and belonging to social groups. Seeking to reach these objectives, the chosen theoretical-methodological tool is Narrative Analysis, since this research s interest is focused on the comprehension of what we do as we narrate, that is, the performative character of language. The selected data to be analyzed are testimonial narratives articulated to a television program from Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus (Universal Church of the Kingdom of God), called Vício Tem Cura (There s a cure for addiction, in a free translation). This program portrays people who have reached a recovery from addiction through faith, by the mediation of UCKG churches. Based in this sample, I observe the discursive alignments that come into play throughout the interactions, underscoring the consensus linked to substances and their consumption, that disseminates their norms and deviations while promoting split identities in and among subjects and social groups. Furthermore, this investigation aims to verify whether there are any structural patterns in the analyzed narratives, since they are not prototypical. Finally, I conclude that the discourse which permeates UCKG churches promotes narratives of overcoming substances use that limits the understanding of substances consumption to the same story, which creates a homogeneous and marginalized identity — as if it were possible, in current times, for us all to perform the same self — ratifying and propagating prejudices and stereotypes.

[pt] NEGOCIAÇÕES COM O ARMÁRIO: HOMOSSEXUALIDADES E ESTIGMA EM NARRATIVAS DE HISTÓRIA DE VIDA / [en] NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE CLOSET: HOMOSEXUALITIES AND STIGMA IN NARRATIVES OF LIFE STORIESLEANDRO DA SILVA GOMES CRISTOVAO 15 September 2016 (has links)
[en] The present thesis, restricted to the indisciplinary tendencies of the research in Applied Linguistics, takes an interest in the situated construction of discourses about homosexualities and its relations with the idea of stigma. For this purpose, sequences of interviews with three men who create senses of homosexuality in narratives of life stories are analyzed. Regarded as discursive organizations that develop senses of their life experiences, such narratives enable the careful observation of the negotiations that are held with the dispositif of the closet; in other words, the compilation of discourses that deal with regimes of (in)visibility of the performances of homosexuality. Performance, in this thesis, is the theoretical construct employed in order to understand the identity practices that produce the homosexualities. By distancing itself from perspectives that essentialize the identities of sexuality, this thesis establishes relations with the studies of queer orientation in order to gain some understanding of the significance of homosexuality. This research is affiliated with qualitative and interpretivist tendencies in Social Sciences as far as data generation and analysis are concerned. The analytical task invests in the field of Interactional Sociolinguistics as well as studies in Narrative Analysis so as to address the recorded interviews. The theoretical-analytical constructs of narrative, face and contextualization cues allow for an observation that points to three different layers: the interaction established between researcher and participants in the situation of interview, the localized construction of narrative episodes that comprise the life story of the participants and the strategies of coherence setting with macro social discourses. The idea of homosexuality as a social stigma to negotiate with in the interviews covers the analytical task. Unlike classic studies about stigma that aim at mixed contexts – between non-deviant and deviant subjects – in the present thesis, the discursive materiality of encounters between equals is analyzed, since both researcher and participants construct themselves as
homosexual individuals. An outspoken enterprise of a political nature, this thesis intends to offer contributions to the field of social studies about homosexualities, presenting the heterogeneity of the performances considered when a closer look into the interaction and the co-construction of narratives is taken. In addition to this is the intention of strengthening dissenting voices in the academic sphere. For this reason, the negotiations with the closet extrapolate the encounters for data generation and flow as an ongoing process throughout the pages of the thesis.
