Sedig, Ludwig, Sundman, Niclas January 2016 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate how ABC-classified article placement can reduce transport distances within warehouse operations, which do not use volume-based article placement. Based on the purpose, two research questions have been formulated: [1]   How can an ABC-classified article placement be established in order to minimize transport distances within warehouses? [2]   How much can transport distances be reduced by using an ABC-classified article placement instead of a non-volume based storage? Method – The methods that have been used to collect data have been a case study and a literature review. The case study has been performed on Sherwin-Williams’ distribution centre in Nässjö and has mainly been based on two months of picking data. Interviews and observations have supplemented the document study. The literature review has resulted in a theoretical framework in which the relevant theories of the study have been presented. The collected data was analysed by comparing the different results against each other. Further comparisons analysed the empirical data against the theoretical framework. Findings – The study has resulted in a model of how ABC-classified article placement with the purpose to reduce transport distances can be designed. The model is based on a few steps that are: pilot study, performance of an ABC-analysis based on the articles picking rate, and zone division. According to the case study ABC-classified article placement can reduce up to 35 % of internal transportation distances and according to the theoretical framework of up to 55 %. Implications – Warehouses that want to use the study can proceed from the steps presented in the analysis section. Furthermore, the practical implications of the study results in a system configuration and the movement of goods to the introduction of the ABC-classified article placement. The study implies theoretically that the volume-based article placement minimizes transport distances. The existing theories stating this is evidenced in this study which also shows that warehouses with less skewed ABC-curves can benefit from placing high frequency goods near the loading area. The study contributes with a new model that has been developed by compiling theories in the studied area. Limitations – The study has been limited to a single case study. The calculations made in the study have excluded items that require special storage, small package picking and distance between the pallets that are retrieved together. Transport distances have been calculated from the loading area and has excluded the distance between the racks and unload area.

Design Of A General Customer Segmentation Process

Vuckic, Asmir, Cosic, Renato January 2015 (has links)
2. Hur kan en kundsegmenteringsprocess utformas? Metod - En generell kundsegmenteringsprocess utformades. / Purpose – To examine how the process of customer segmentation can be designed, and which variables to consider to offer an appropriate customer service. To achieve this purpose the following questions will be answered: 1. Which variables should be included in customer segmentation? 2. How can a customer segmentation process be designed? Method – A general process was designed. The process has been developed through qualitative research based on literature review and interviews conducted in a case study. During the literature review the authors sought for theories on the subject in order to answer the research questions. This was later compared to the empirical evidence collected from the case study. Findings – The designed process contains seven dimensions with related variables. During the study the variables were evaluated concerning their impact on the situation. Only variables that had a high influence on the situation were implemented in the process. The study showed that that there are various approaches towards performing customer segmentation. When designing a customer segmentation process, it is of high importance to know which variables suit the organizations line of business and how they affect the outcome. Research limitations – The thesis is restricted into designing a customer segmentation process, the process will therefore not be applied on the case company during the case study. The process can still be generalized and usable for companies with similar distribution setup. Further research could strive to include other variables. Implications – The designed process assists in the decision-making situation regarding customer segmentation. By balancing the variables it enables a basis for customer service offering. These variables take the requested generalization in consideration. Originality/value – The customer segmentation process presented in this thesis is, as far as the authors know, the first in its kind with its layout. The variables could be used in other segmentation processes as well which show a high grade of generalization. What is unique with the designed process in this thesis is that it contains a mixture of two well proven customer segmentation theories namely, Kotler’s (2009) Bottom-Up-Approach and Weinstein’s (2004) B2B Market Segmentation.

Andersson, Erik January 2016 (has links)
Costs related to inventory are usually a significant amount of the company’s total assets. Despite this, companies in general don’t pay a lot of interest in it, even if the benefits from effective inventory are obvious when it comes to less tied up capital, increased customer satisfaction and better working environment. Permobil AB, Timrå is in an intense period when it comes to revenue and growth. The production unit is aiming for an increased output of 30 % in the next two years. To make this possible the company has to improve their way to distribute and handle material,The purpose of the study is to provide useful information and concrete proposals for action, so that the company can build a strategy for an effective and sustainable solution when it comes to inventory management. Alternative methods for making forecasts are suggested, in order to reach a more nuanced perception of different articles, and how they should be managed. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used in order to give specially selected persons the chance to decide criteria for how the article should be valued. The criteria they agreed about were annual volume value, lead time, frequency rate and purchase price. The other method that was proposed was a two-dimensional model where annual volume value and frequency was the criteria that specified in which class an article should be placed. Both methods resulted in significant changes in comparison to the current solution. For the spare part inventory different forecast methods were tested and compared with the current solution. It turned out that the current forecast method performed worse than both moving average and exponential smoothing with trend. The small sample of ten random articles is not big enough to reject the current solution, but still the result is a reason enough, for the company to control the quality of the forecasts.

Book, Oscar, Falkenberg, Isac, Gunnarsson, Oscar January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to analyze inventory inaccuracy at Haldex. In order to answer the purpose a qualitative method in the form of interviews, a survey and observations were conducted. The empirical material was then later analyzed with relevant theories regarding inventory inaccuracy. This study found that the inventory inaccuracy at Haldex mainly was a result of human errors combined with technological errors. The human errors came from a lack of knowledge in the company's ERP system AX12. The interviews found that the system had been implemented too fast and without relevant training, which later resulted in employees not knowing how to properly use it. The technological errors came from the company's weak criteria’s when it came to classify the inventory. Today Haldex uses an ABC-classification that is based on the products value, this essay suggests that lead time and importance of the product should be added. In order to minimize inventory errors this essay suggest that RFID technology needs to be added to the company's A-products.

Galvez-Torres, Erika, Cruz-Alfaro, Milagros, Cespedes-Blanco, Carlos, Raymundo, Carlos, Mamani-Macedo, Nestor, Dominguez, Francisco 01 January 2020 (has links)
It has been found that the main causes of insufficient sales of different small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is the low conversion rate of quotes into sales, which entails poor business performance and low economic impact. Therefore, a marketing methodology called inbound marketing is planned, which is modified and adapted to the case study. In contrast, tools such as ABC classification, workflow, and inbound marketing have been used as a structure of the proposed methodology to solve the problem. The implementation of this methodology resulted in an increased efficiency of quote development and an enhanced performance ratio thereof. In conclusion, it is possible to measure the financial impact of the methodology implementation which has been beneficial for the company under study. Business performance in the last month of implementation improved by 10%.

Zeru, Berhane, Hamdi, Ahmed January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of the survey is to investigate article placements at the logistics companythat are unproductively located. Unproductive places of A-classing articles have had anegative effect on picking frequency, which has contributed to the lead time to retrieveone A-article taking longer than retrieving another A-article with lower turnover. The purpose of the survey is to identify the negative aspects that affect the pickingfrequency in order to provide the logistics company with information about the aspectsthat indicate improvement. The method survey was created by collecting data throughboth primary and secondary data. Structured observation and questioning were part of a semi-structured interview andvarious scientific articles related to the subject area as well as literature search were partof secondary data. The investigation has resulted in the current reasons behind theconnection between article placement and picking time having been negatively affectedby the logistics company. Furthermore, research has come to a result where the logistics company loses manyproduction hours around the cause that need to implement new measures for improvementand development. The conclusion of the survey reports that the logistics company shouldaddress the negative aspects that affect item placement and picking time. • Minimize waste by shortening the walking distance. • Rearrange the items. • Skills development within Lean and 5S to work smarter. • Maintain order by identifying items that need to be repositioned and suppliers. • Exercise more parameters (sales, withdrawals and picking frequency). • Streamline inventory managementsystems (inbound and outbound deliveries, picks, warehouse locations). The work was limited to part of article optimization in logistics and placement of Aclassified articles and the impact on the picking frequency. During the study, COVID-19 has been an obstacle that limited the study's authors to stay longer with the logisticscompany.

Inventory Control - Understanding is the basis for improvement : Designing of a theoretical model of inventory control to create an understanding regarding how inventory turnover may increase, and applying this model on Sandvik’s production department in Svedala to identify possible improvements.

Råstrander, Frida, Hejdenberg, Linnea January 2016 (has links)
Background: In order to increase the efficiency for companies that keep inventory, they need to work with inventory control. Inventory control regards planning and control of the inventory to increase customer and production service. Within inventory control, it is important that companies make decisions regarding the quantity to be ordered and when the order will be added to be available in the warehouse at the right time. Companies can use safety stock to ensure that they can deal with uncertainties in demand and production. Purpose: The purpose of this study is, based on analysis of inventory control theory, to design a theoretical model of inventory control to create an understanding for how the inventory turnover may increase. Furthermore, the theoretical model will be empirically applied to Sandvik's production department of Svedala's current articles to indicate improvements. Method: The study has been made as a case study at Sandvik´s production department in Svedala, based on a developed theoretical model of inventory control. Theory collection to the design of the theoretical model of inventory control has been obtained through professional literature and scientific articles. Empirical data has been collected through interviews and numerical data. Both theory and empirical data have been analyzed from a qualitative approach. Concluding remarks: The designed theoretical model of inventory includes criteria that affect inventory turnover, the steps to implement an ABC classification and various inventory control methods to determine how the placement of orders should be implemented and the amount of safety stock that should be held. The theoretical model vi of inventory control is pedagogical and clear to create an understanding regarding how companies can increase their inventory turnover. The inventory control that was formed for Sandvik´s production department in Svedala, on the basis of the theoretical model of inventory control, consisted of the ordering methods, lot-for-lot, estimated order quantity and cover-time planning. The methods for safety stock were safety stock based on manual assessments and on lead time consumptions. With this control Sandvik´s production department in Svedala, proactively can avoid obsolete and slow moving inventory in the future

Audi, Abdelrahman, Jordá, Nathalie January 2018 (has links)
Successful organizations are constantly working to improve and enhance their operations. There are multiple approaches that can create efficiency, however there are difficulties in identifying factors that are important to the company. The purpose of the case study is to analyze and enhance order handling for inventory items based on article priorities. In order to answer the purpose of the case study, data has primarily been collected through literature studies, interviews, and observations. Further more, statistics and documents has been provided by BillerudKorsnäs. Three interviews have been completed on different occasions with employees who works daily with order handling. Observations has taken place continuously to receive insight of the operations and current working methods. The theory chapter underlying the case study has been collected through research articles, course literature, and websites. The purchasing process from demand to delivery has been studied in the current status description. Multiple manual elements, challenges with the design of the business system, and difficulties maintaining correct information in the article registry are some aspects that were identified in the purchasing process. In conclusion, inventory items that are bound to purchase reservations, should have a higher degree of priority in order handling. Further more, factors as manual handling, standardized approaches, increased automation, and correct information in the business system, are of importance to achieve enhanced order handling.

Optimering av lagerstyrning i ett företag med kundorderstyrd produktion : En fallstudie inom tillverkningsindustrin / Optimization inventory management in a company with customer-controlled production : A case study within the manufacturing industry

Gunnarsson, Hanna, Jordman, Isabella January 2020 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of the study is to identify individual parameters on articles to enable optimized inventory management in a company with customer-controlled production. Three questions have been formulated to answer the purpose. Which parameters need to be considered to optimize inventory control? Which parameters can be identified in a company with customer order driven production? How can identified items be used in inventory management? Method – The study was initiated with a feasibility study to elucidate the problem of the subject and its context. The preliminary study in combination with a literature study contributed to the creation of the purpose and formulation of the study's three issues. Furthermore, the study is designed according to the type of one-case design where the interview was used as a data collection method. The interview contributed to qualitative primary data where the purpose was to illustrate key people's knowledge of the subject studied.  Findings – Identifying parameters that are important for optimizing profitability and inventory management in a company is challenging. The problem with this lies in identifying the right parameters adapted for a company's production method and elucidating how these should be implemented. This study addresses important parameters for customer order controlled environment regarding various functions of a company. The result describes these parameters and shows how the parameters are advantageously used in an ABC classification to control the layer effectively. Implications – The subject area of inventory management is well explored in existing literature, which contributes to less space to generate new knowledge in the area. Despite this, this study contributes to new knowledge, which strengthens current research on inventory management in customer-order-driven environments. This then-collected theory in combination with empirics opens up new facts to take into account. Limitations – The study comprises only one case company, which in addition affects the generalizability of the study. As the study focuses on inventory management based on five functions of the fall company, the study cannot be fully generalized to other similar companies. Furthermore, limitations can be found in the data collection where only specifically selected persons were interviewed which may have influenced the study's results.
