Optimalizace bezpečnostních schopností ozbrojených sil České republiky / Security capabilities optimalization of Czech military forces

Melich, Ladislav January 2013 (has links)
The topic of this diploma thesis is "Security capabilities optimalization of Czech armed forces". The original research aims to propose the strategic optimalization of the security capabilities of Czech armed forces. After the description of the evolution of the transformation of Czech armed forces from 1989 the thesis has offered an analysis of threats, risks and assets to Czech republic made on the basis of Czech strategic security documents. On this basis matrix of security risks has been created. Then preventive and liquidation measures that are necessary to adopt in case of emergency situations have been formulated. In the next section necessary security capabilities for realization of the measures have been suggested. Although the author examined all security capabilities necessary for elimination of security risks, major emphasis has been given to military capabilities. The actual military capabilities of Czech armed forces have also been described. The main aim of this thesis has been to define the strategic gap - the difference between desirable military capabalities and actual military capabilities - and to present strategic goals for approximately next twenty years.

Petružálková, Kateřina January 2013 (has links)
Diploma thesis deals with the approval process of participation of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic in foreign operations. The aim of this thesis is to find political elite's dominant motivation which leads to the decision take part in foreign military operations. Hypothesis assumes that according to the material capabilities and power ambitions of the Czech Republic there is only one dominant motivation which can be described as commitments to the membership in UN, NATO or EU. To fulfil this aim we used a content analysis of relevant discussions realized in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic since 1993 until present. Identified arguments are assign with one of the five relevant categories (policy related to the commitments to the membership, security and political interests, historical symbolism, potential of profit in the future and influence of the domestic political situation). Analysis also considers the revelation of official statements of the political party and speeches of its members in the Chamber of Deputies.

GREPLOVÁ, Kristýna. Formována misí: Vliv zahraniční operace v Afghánistánu na transformaci české armády. Praha, 2014. 66 s. Diplomová práce (Mgr.) Univerzita Karlova, Fakulta sociálních věd, Institut politologických studií. Katedra mezinárodních vztahů. Vedoucí diplomové práce Mgr. et Mgr. Jan Ludvík. Shaped by the Mission: Influence of the Combat Deployment in Afghanistan on the Transformation of the Czech Armed Forces Abstract The thesis is dedicated to the operations of Czech Army in Afghanistan during 2002-2012 and it studies the influence that the deployment has had on the ongoing transformation of Czech Armed forces. The work builds upon a theoretical frame of postmodern paradigm studying various trends that accompany a shift from modern to postmodern militaries. Part of the study is dedicated to acquiring empirical knowledge about the changes that deployment to Afghanistan has brought to Czech army. Later the theoretical predictions are confronted with the real development of Czech armed forces and it is argued that the impact deployment to Afghanistan had on Czech armed forces has brought the army closer to the concept of postmodern military.

The Ritual Inscription of a Martial Worldview - An Analysis of Liturgical, Developmental and Ecological Dynamics of Adaptation

Nurnberger, Robin 19 September 2018 (has links)
This project describes the role of ritual in the basic entrainment processes of Canadian soldiers. Building on the ecological systems theories of Urie Bronfenbrenner and Roy Rappaport, this project construes human adaptation to occur within multiple interdependent planes of ordered biological, sociostructural, psychosocial and symbolic (even transcendent) meanings and interactions within integrated social ecologies or “living systems.” Rappaport’s theory supports the argument that invariant, embodied actions and impulses not encoded by ritual performers establish social order, values, motivations, competencies, dispositions and representational or symbolic meanings—understood within this project as worldview—circulating within and regulating integrated human ecologies. Ordered sequences of invariant actions and impulses have also come to be conveyed within human phylogenic and ontogenetic developmental processes. This project specifically explores the hypothesis that embodied ritual dynamics pervade the basic entrainment rite of Canadian soldiers. The analysis draws on the ritual theory of Rappaport and the psychosocial developmental theory of Erik Erikson to describe the manner in which innate social regulating impulses and liturgically ordered ritual processes are exploited, in conjunction with predictable human psychosocial developmental imperatives, to build foundational martial dispositions, a spontaneous impulse to radical solidarity and a robust, homogeneous and multivocalic worldview in Canadian soldiers. Such a worldview is adaptive to all aspects of service within the Canadian Armed Forces. The rudimentary martial worldview inscribed upon recruit soldiers and officer candidates forms the foundational background to all subsequent martial meaning and adaptation in so far as it is collectively maintained throughout the military career. This argument maintains that a ritual analysis of adaptive meaning and solidarity among soldiers has profound implications for the structure and direction of future research investigating the persistent and well documented rates of distress, maladaptation and health pathology among serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

"I have not achieved a feeling of being masculine.”  : An exploration of masculinities in the Swedish Armed Forces

Bjersér, Sofia January 2021 (has links)
Historically and presently most people employed in military forces worldwide are men. With a focus on peacekeeping and equality, the Swedish Armed Forces (SwAF) aim to recruit more women. But even as gender issues become a central focus of the SwAF, policy is mostly aimed towards women despite most employees being men. This study came about by leaning on feminist scholars’ arguments that men and masculinities need to be examined and involved when working towards positive peace, so that they do not remain naturalized and become unidentified obstacles. To achieve this aim, this thesis draws on semi-structured interviews with Swedish Peacekeepers and present a complex, contradictory puzzle of how masculinities are performed, perceived, and reproduced. Masculinities are admired but ridiculed, used as a tool for battle but an obstacle for rehabilitation, a source for deep emotional bonds and rigorously performed to turn off emotionally, and is mainly existing in the eyes of the beholder but seldom seen in oneself. The results support theoretical complexity of militarized masculinities and confirm that militarism is not inherent or come natural to men but is a performative, social construction.

“Vi låter Sverige vara i fred” : en studie om hur Försvarsmakten bygger sitt varumärke genom reklamfilmer / “We leave Sweden in peace” : A study about how the Swedish Armed Forces work with branding in their commercials.

Bjurbäck, Sara, Kjetselberg, Sandra, Berggren, Tilda January 2021 (has links)
This study presents research on branding through commercials. The purpose is to investigate how the Swedish Armed Forces work with branding in their commercials to recruit employees. Following the reintroduction of military service in 2017, the Swedish Armed Forces launched a number of advertising campaigns. In order to address the purpose of the study, a research question has been designed and, using a qualitative approach, the collected empirical material has been analyzed. This has been done in form of a content analysis of three commercials from the campaigns. The analysis is based on theories of Branding and communication. The commercials are analyzed on the basis of semiotic and rhetoric theories and thereafter to how the Swedish Armed Forces build their brand. The results of the study shows that the Swedish Armed Forces’ commercials primarily focuses on creating a positive image of the brand rather than just recruiting. Based on the analysis the organization is presented as equal, modern and inclusive, which are associations that are new to the Armed Forces’. Positive associations contribute to an attractive brand image that can lead to the target group applying to the organization. In order to make the recruitment process in the organization more efficient, they should focus more on highlighting the benefits of working there. This study contributes to an understanding of the importance of a strong brand regardless the purpose of the marketing. In order to gain more knowledge about brand building in the Armed Forces commercials, it is recommended to do future research on what actually attracts recruits to apply to join the Armed Forces. The study is written in Swedish.
