The Bridge / The Bridge

Medek, Lukáš January 2012 (has links)
The Bridge: Pong Evolution describes the evolution of visuality in computer games in the symbolic way. The piece focuses on the most common elements used in graphics, gameplay, styles and technologies both in history and nowadays. Then it uses them in one single evolving environment. The work is also criticizing some contemporary (and past) trends commonly used in video games.

Criteria for Machinability Evaluation of Compacted Graphite Iron Materials : Design and Production Planning Perspective on Cylinder Block Manufacturing

Berglund, Anders January 2011 (has links)
The Swedish truck industry is looking for new material solutions to achieve lighter engines with increased strength to meet customer demands and to fulfil the new regulations for more environmentally friendly trucks. This could be achieved by increasing the peak pressure in the cylinders. Consequently, a more efficient combustion is obtained and the exhaust lowered. This, however, exposes the engine to higher loads and material physical properties must therefore be enhanced. One material that could meet these demands is Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI). Its mechanical and physical properties make it ideal as cylinder block material, though there are drawbacks concerning its machinability as compared to other materials that are commonly used for the same purpose. Knowledge about machining of the material and its machinability is consequently inadequate. The main goal of this thesis is to identify and investigate the effect of the major factors and their individual contributions on CGI machining process behaviour. When the relationship between the fundamental features; machinability, material microstructure, and material physical properties, are revealed, the CGI material can be optimized, both regarding the manufacturing process and design requirements. The basic understanding of this is developed mainly through experimental analysis as, e.g., machining experiments and material characterization. The machining model presented in this thesis demonstrates the influence of material and process parameters on CGI machinability. It highlights machinability from both design and production planning perspectives. Another important objective of the thesis is an inverse thermo−mechanical FE model for intermittent machining of CGI. Here, experimental results obtained from a developed simulated milling method are used as input data, both to calibrate and validate the model. With these models, a deeper understanding is obtained regarding the way to achieve a stable process, which is the basis for future optimization procedures. The models can therefore be used as a foundation for the optimization of CGI component manufacturing. / <p>QC 20111121</p> / MERA - OPTIMA CGI / FFI - OPTIMA phase two

Pierre, Guillaume 06 December 2010 (has links) (PDF)

IL CORPO NELL'ERA DIGITALE: DAL SIMULACRO ALLA PERFORMANCE CAPTURE / The Body in the Digital Era: from the Simulacrum to Performance Capture

MACCAFERRI, CAMILLA 03 June 2013 (has links)
After the revolutionary phases brought by the introduction of sound and color, the seventh art is going through another, even more radical, renewal: the digital tsunami, where video is taking over the film and Computer Graphic is ruling the field of special effects. This project , situated inside a perspective of substantial change, is focused on the analysis of the role of the new actor and of his body, reconstructed after the disappearance of the organic elements in favor of the digital ones. Starting from an historical overview on the advent of digital cinema, this research aims to follow the development of Performance Capture, a technique capable to rewrite the rules of acting and directing. Digital moviemaking, CGI and Performance Capture, in particular, are phenomena in constant development, whose future effects are still not predictable. The purpose of this research is to establish whether cinema is becoming, like Manovich suggests, like Lev Manovich says, a “slave to the computer” , or if, on the contrary, new technologies will be able to strengthen its artistic, therefore human, sides.

An Investigation Of Compacted Graphite Cast Iron Production By Means Of Thermal Analysis Technique And Other Process Control Windows

Elmabrouk, Omar Mustafa 01 January 2007 (has links) (PDF)
ABSTRACT AN INVESTIGATION OF COMPACTED GRAPHITE IRON PRODUCTION BY MEANS OF THERMAL ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE AND OTHER PROCESS CONTROL WINDOWS El-mabrouk, Omar PhD, Metallurgical and Material Engineering Department Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Ali Kalkanli January 2007, 123 pages Compacted graphite irons have been proved valuable in many applications such as exhaust manifolds, hydraulic valves, and diesel engine blocks, the process of producing compacted graphite irons is not a straight forward process because of its narrow processing windows and its high sensitivity to the section thickness, treatment reaction time, pouring temperatures and charge composition. In this thesis, compacted graphite was produced with minimum variations through all section thickness and the effect of Mg/S ratio, section thickness, and treatment agents on the graphite morphology, electrical resistivity property and fracture strength at high temperatures was investigated. The range of Mg/S ratio and the section thickness was from 2/3 to 7/1 and 5 mm to 40 mm respectively. FeSiMg and FeSiMg cermish metal were used as a treatment agent. Optical metallographic method was implemented to investigate the graphite morphology change. For being a distinguishable characteristic for compacted graphite iron over ductile iron, thermal conductivity changes at high temperatures ranging from room temperature to 500 0C was examined by a suitable electrical setup in the manner of electrical conductivity changes by measuring the electrical resistance. On the other hand, due to the higher values of mechanical properties of compacted graphite iron over those of gray iron, tensile strength was also examined by means of tensile test. The relation between the compacted graphite shape and the alloy properties such as fracture strength and thermal conductivity was investigated. The most important controlling parameters to produce compacted graphite are Mg/S ratio and oxygen activity. The relation between these parameters with both fracture strength and thermal conductivity was established by means of multiple regression analysis technique.

La fabrique des "nouvelles images" : l’émergence des images de synthèse en France dans la création audiovisuelle (1968-1989) / Making “nouvelles images” : the emergence of computer-generated images in France in audiovisual creation (1968-1989)

Welker, Cécile 06 November 2015 (has links)
Between the first PhD in computer graphics (defended in 1968) and the first entirely synthetic advertisement broadcast on television (1983), computer-generated images became “new images”. The aim is not to assess these so-called new images according to their distinctive qualities of rupture or continuity, as the expression would suggest, but rather to study their mode of production and representation in order to determine what they show from the techniques employed, and the imaginative worlds that they convey at the time of the emergence of digital images, like so many creative suggestions but also ideological issues. Studied first from a technical, then from an aesthetic point of view, thanks to the cross-study of testimonies, grey literature and a formal analysis of the movies, these productions show a process of recovery of the medium, before and after the image. This PhD not only defines an “official” history of computer-generated images in France, replacing as precisely as possible the productions in their technical, political and cultural environment, but it also reveals when computer-generated images are innovating products, from their places of fabrication to their places of legitimacy. The conclusions question the different local circulations of people, tools and images, at a time when the cultural policies of the year 1981 promotes the bond between art and computer, and the indiscipline of creations.

Pour une réforme de la solidarité du dirigeant au passif fiscal / Reforming the corporate manager’s liability for tax liabilities

Grevet, Alexandre 15 November 2016 (has links)
Joint liability is a recurrent feature of tax law. It is essentially a civil law mechanism which is closely bound to the means of recovery available to the revenue authorities. With respect to the company director, his “financial liability” or “joint pecuniary liability” currently depends on a court ruling. Two items of legislation provide for the director’s liability according to whether the matter is being heard before the civil courts (Article L. 267 of the LPF tax code) or the criminal courts (Article 1745 of the CGI tax code).Although those two provisions are independent from one another since they have neither the same legal basis, nor the same purpose and the person bringing the action is different, it is appropriate to question their respective scope, underline their pitfalls and present avenues for reform of the corporate manager’s joint liability for tax liabilities. The aim is both to make the revenue authority’s action for recovery more effective and to secure the corporate manager’s rights. The current situation requires pragmatism, for recovering tax liabilities resulting primarily from VAT and for suspending joint liability for intentionally causing tax liabilities from the time of the procedure of the determination of the tax base.
