Who's crying now? Chosen childlessness, circumstantial childlessness and the irrationality of motherhood: a study of the fertility decisions of Australian and North American womenCannold, Leslie Unknown Date (has links)
Interviews were conducted with thirty-five Australian and North American women who were fertile, childless and aged between twenty-eight and forty-two. The goal was to investigate how childlessness was experienced and understood by women for whom childbearing was a “live” issue. A key area of concern was whether women described their childlessness as “chosen” and if so, whether that description was a good “fit” with everyday understandings of choice. Previous issue date: 2007 / Ao deslocar a necessidade causal das coisas para o espírito, Hume dá uma nova definição de necessidade. Enquanto a tradição filosófica a definia como um liame objetivo e interno entre a causa e o efeito, Hume a define como um sentimento imediato de determinação na mente que nos leva a passar de uma idéia àquela que lhe é habitualmente associada. Este sentimento será transferido como uma força, como uma vivacidade que irá carregar a segunda idéia. Esta idéia assim avivada será chamada de crença no Tratado da Natureza Humana. A crença é uma maneira de conceber uma idéia, uma maneira mais vívida de concebê-la. Além disso, para que uma idéia ganhe vivacidade é preciso que haja uma relação de semelhança entre os casos observados ou associados na imaginação. Ora, em virtude da determinação imediata no espírito, a crença se dá mesmo quando não há uma semelhança completa entre os casos. Hume acrescenta, então, uma outra operação para regular esse mecanismo automático: a reflexão. Essa operação irá nos remeter à teoria das regras gerais, indispensável para uma compreensão adequada do projeto de Hume. No sistema moral do livro 3 será esta a operação responsável pela estabilização do juízo moral. A afetividade e a reflexão constituem, assim, a unidade do Tratado. Esses dois componentes da natureza humana se articulam ainda em uma teoria das paixões que, como diz Hume, é a pesquisa principal de sua filosofia desde o livro 1. A fantasia, por sua vez, irá aparecer no Tratado seja enquanto fator de desestabilização da crença, exigindo uma operação reflexiva ou corretiva do entendimento, seja enquanto fator criador de regras artificiais úteis à sociedade. Por isso, suas funções não possuem o mesmo valor e sentido. No livro1, ela ameaça de dentro a ciência, as inferências legítimas. Nos livros 2 e 3, ela possui uma positividade, subordinada apenas à utilidade de suas regras para a estabilidade social. Essa utilidade depende também de uma reflexão sobre as tendências dessas regras artificiais de promover a ordem e a estabilidade sociais. Hume se apresenta como o Newton das ciências morais. Seu empreendimento é científico nesse novo sentido de ciência experimental. Sua física do homem descreve este último como um animal governado por princípios gerais de associação de idéias e de paixões, assim como por instintos. / Salvador

A Study of Internship¡¦s Circumstance Influences on Students¡¦ professional commitment: Case of International Hospitality IndustryChang, Han-cheng 21 February 2005 (has links)
One of the goals to the technical and vocational education is for the industry to breed the talent persons. For reaching this purpose, Internship - the course was designed to practice training for the theory learning. The major purposes of this research were those: 1. To explore the influence on the relationship between the internship¡¦s circumstance and the professional commitment. 2. The mediating effects of the internship¡¦s experience satisfaction and self-efficacy, and follow that, the influences to the professional commitment. The results indicated that: the relationship between the internship¡¦s circumstance, internship¡¦s experience satisfaction, self-efficacy and professional commitment have the positively relations; the assumption about the affects between the internship¡¦s circumstance, internship¡¦s experience satisfaction, self-efficacy and professional commitment have some been supported; both the internship¡¦s experience satisfaction and self-efficacy positively affect the professional commitment and have the mediating effect. The results show that: the internship¡¦s experience satisfaction and self-efficacy are the important parts on the relationship between the internship¡¦s circumstance and professional commitment. Follow those results, the study suggests that the hospitality industry could do the job redesigned and breed the senior official that could support the students to improve the students¡¦ internship experience satisfaction; by the other way, it suggests the colleges should help the students to do the prepareing before leaving for the hotel to take the internship and assemble the students between the period of their internship to know the opinions about that and assist them to improve the internship¡¦s experience satisfaction and students¡¦ self-efficacy.

Previous issue date: 2006 / Uma investigação sobre acontecimentos em aulas do curso de Filosofia da UFBA, através da observação de estudantes sob a regência do educador Dante Augusto Galeffi na disciplina Metodologia e Prática de Ensino em Filosofia-I, do semestre 2003.2, na FACED - Faculdade de Educação/UFBA, e o diálogo entre as linguagens achadas nas aulas com a obra Investigações Filosóficas, do filósofo austríaco Ludwig Wittgenstein. Entretanto, não apenas com esta obra, mas também com outras obras esclarecedoras de epistéme, de competência estabelecida e requerida pela tradição filosófica moderna, sendo que para Wittgenstein, especificamente, a Filosofia não precisa ficar aprisionada em tradições autoritárias de verdades, pois elas, as verdades, são circunstanciais, são perspectivísticas. Além disto, diante as observações feitas na linguagem dos estudantes citados acima, um autoritarismo tradicional no processo do educar em Filosofia na UFBA parece se estabelecer enquanto cultura vigente. Re-Conceptualizing the Organizing Circumstance of LearningSpear Ellinwood, Karen Courtenay January 2011 (has links)
This study explores the web-navigation practices of adult learners in higher education and re-conceptualizes the concept of the organizing circumstance of self-managed learning, originated by Spear and Mocker (1984). The theoretical framework draws on funds of knowledge theory from a cultural historical perspective and elaborates a Vygotskian concepts of learning and development by introducing the notion of the distal object and the zone of distal development. The study employed a mixed methods design with an embedded multiple-case study involving half of the twelve participants using a new technology for self-managed learning called Zonebee. Zonebee recorded participants' web navigation, known as Zonebee Trails, providing quantitative data for analysis. Surveys were administered, namely the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (Schraw&Dennison, 1994), the Index of Learning Styles Inventory (Soloman&Felder, 1986), a survey of technology use (created for this study) and a set of demographic questions. Eleven of the twelve participants also provided interviews in which they described their self-managed learning practices.Findings contradicted the premise in the literature that the learning environment fortuitously determines the learning experience. Participants primarily relied on the internet and computer to manage their learning and made deliberate choices about which tools to use depending upon the purpose of the constituent process of self-managed learning in which they were engaged (assessing, planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating or producing). Zonebee Trails evidenced participants' engagement in considerable planning before generating focused queries to locate specific materials. Thus, this study suggests that the organizing circumstance operates, not through happenstance alone, but through the confluence of four factors influencing the direction the learner takes: funds of knowledge for learning; learning demands (proximity of the learning object, proximal or distal), conditions for learning (affordances for and constraints on learning); and motivation or purpose of activity. The re-conceptualized organizing circumstance of learning, then, offers a methodological and theoretical way to redefine context and understand how learners manage their own learning.

Hedersmotiv som en försvårande omständighet : - En tematisk analys av tingsrättens resonemang / Honour Motive as an Aggravating Circumstance : A Thematic Analysis of the District Court's ReasoningJansson, Emelie, Lundström, Ida January 2022 (has links)
Hedersrelaterad brottslighet är ett allvarligt samhällsproblem där brottsoffer ofta utsätts för både psykiskt, fysiskt och socialt våld och förtryck. Sedan den första juli 2020 regleras hedersmotiv som en försvårande omständighet i Brottsbalken, 1962:700 29 kap 2 § p.10. Den nya straffskärpningsregeln syftar till att höja straffvärdet för brott som begås med ett hedersmotiv samt att förtydliga för domstolar vilka omständigheter ett sådant motiv kan utgöras av. För att få en djupare förståelse för hur tingsrätten resonerar kring hedersmotivet syftar studien till att jämföra dessa resonemang före respektive efter införandet av straffskärpningen. Vidare ämnar studien att undersöka hur tingsrätten styrker hedersmotiv samt vilken påverkan som straffskärpningen har inneburit vid värdering av straffvärdet. För att besvara frågeställningar har studien tillämpat en tematisk analys, där totalt 14 domar har analyserats. Resultatet visar att tingsrätten har blivit mer enhetlig och tydlig i sitt resonemang kring hedersmotiv efter införandet av straffskärpningen. Vid styrkande av föreliggande hedersmotiv har den tilltalades olika former av kontroll över målsägande, samt kollektiva omständigheter, beaktats i stor utsträckning. Innan införandet utgick tingsrätten från olika definitioner av fenomenet och motiverade sällan varför ett hedersmotiv förelåg. Vad gäller straffskärpningens påverkan vid värdering av straffvärdet har det inte gått att urskilja en generell påverkan på straffvärdets längd. Däremot har straffskärpningen inneburit en mer konsekvent bedömning av hedersmotivet som en försvårande omständighet under påföljdsbeslut. Då studien endast har inkluderat domslut mellan 2018–2022 rekommenderas framtida forskning inom området att vidga detta tidsperspektiv för att identifiera ytterligare förändring i tingsrättens resonemang samt motivering för hedersmotiv. / Honour-related crime is a serious societal problem where victims are often subjected to psychological, physical, and social violence and oppression. Since the first of July 2020, honour motives have been regulated as an aggravating circumstance in accordance with Chapter 29 2§ p.10 (The Swedish Penal Code, 1962: 700). The aim of this aggravating circumstance is to harshen the penalty value for crimes committed with an honour motive and to clarify to courts what circumstances such a motive may consist of. To gain a deeper understanding of the district court’s reasoning, the study aims to compare these reasonings before and after the introduction of this aggravating circumstance. Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to examine how the district court proves honour motives and what impact this has had on the penal value. To answer these questions a thematic analysis was used, where a total of fourteen verdicts were analysed. The result shows that the district court has become more coherent and clearer in its reasonings regarding honour motives. Furthermore, the district court usually supports the motive based on different circumstances surrounding the defendant's control over the victim and collective circumstances. Before the introduction of this aggravating circumstance the district court used different definitions of the phenomenon and rarely provided an explanation of why an honour motive was present. It has not been possible to distinguish a general impact on the length of the penalty value. However, this change has led to a more consistent assessment of the motive as an aggravating circumstance during penalty decisions. As the study only included verdicts between 2018-2022, future research is advised to identify further changes over time.

O pensamento de Leopoldo Zea, filósofo mexicano do século XX, está na base da Filosofia da Libertação e iniciou suas pesquisas com o objetivo de compreender o homem a partir de sua realidade mais próxima, o México. Entende o homem como pessoa concreta, de carne e osso, inserido em suas circunstâncias, com as quais dialoga de maneira dialética: transforma-as, ao mesmo tempo, que é transformado por elas. As circunstâncias constituem sua situação vital, nas quais manifesta sua concretude e expressa sua liberdade. O homem é concebido como um ente histórico que participa da tripla dimensão temporal (passado-presente-futuro) e constrói a história à medida que enfrenta os problemas apresentados pelas circunstâncias. Sob essa perspectiva, busca a identidade do homem latinoamericano que deve se compreender como mestiço e reconhecer sua condição de dependência sócio-cultural para que possa iniciar um processo de libertação de qualquer situação de opressão. A libertação do homem de seu estado de dependência sócio-cultural só é possível através da compreensão histórica e do conhecimento de si mesmo. Daí decorre a proposta de que educar é formar homens livres, exigindo-se uma educação crítica e popular que dialogue com a realidade concreta. / The aim of this dissertation is to show the two main categories present in the philosophy of Leopoldo Zea: circumstance and miscegenation, seeking evidence that could contribute to the educational thought. Thought of Leopoldo Zea, Mexican philosopher of the twentieth century is the basis of Philosophy of Liberation and began his research with the aim of understand the man from his reality more closer, the Mexico. Does the man can as a concrete person, of flesh and bone, inserted in their circumstances, with which dialogue dialectically: it transforms them at the same time, which is transformed by them. The circumstances are their life situation, in which he demonstrates their concreteness and express their freedom. The man is conceived as a historical entity that participates in the triple temporal dimension (past-presentfuture) and builds the history as it faced the problems presented by the circumstances. From this perspective, search the identity of the Latin American man who must understand how mestizo and recognize his condition dependency socio-cultural so he can begin a process of release of any situation of oppression. The liberation of man from his reliance on sociocultural is only possible through the historical understanding and knowledge of oneself. La présente recherche traite des constructions participiales en –ing de l’anglais contemporain. Elle s’appuie sur un corpus de plus de 1700 occurrences de participiales issues de romans et d’articles de journaux, ainsi que sur le British National Corpus et le Corpus of Contemporary American English. Les participiales ont pour caractéristique majeure ne pas expliciter les liens syntaxiques et sémantiques qui les unissent à la proposition dont elles dépendent. Pour expliquer les fondements linguistiques de cette propriété, la recherche établit une typologie détaillée des participiales, étudie les relations qu’elles entretiennent avec leur sujet, ainsi que la nature de l’incidence et de la prédication qui les caractérisent, et détaille les interprétations sémantiques qu’elles peuvent recevoir. Elle montre que la valeur sémantique basique des participiales est la circonstance concomitante, soit un simple lien établi entre deux procès qui forment une unité dans l’esprit de l’énonciateur. Ce sont les traits spécifiques du co- et du contexte qui peuvent modifier cette valeur basique pour déboucher sur l’interprétation finale, adverbiale ou adjectivale, de la participiale. La recherche propose, dans le cadre de la psychosystématique de Gustave Guillaume, des hypothèses susceptibles d’expliquer le comportement syntaxique et sémantique des participiales ; elle montre qu’il est directement lié au sens du participe présent, dont il est postulé que l’incidence est interne et qu’il code la simultanéité et l’imperfectif dans tous ses emplois. / This research deals with –ing participle clauses in contemporary English. It is based on a corpus totalling over 1,700 participle clauses collected from novels and newspaper articles, and it also relies on data from electronic corpora – the British National Corpus and the Corpus of Contemporary American English. The main characteristic of –ing participle clauses is that they lack an explicit syntactic and semantic link to their superordinate clause: to shed light on the linguistic phenomena accounting for this specificity, the research establishes a detailed typology of –ing clauses, studies their relationship to their subjects, investigates the specific nature of their incidence and predication, and provides a detailed analysis of their semantic indeterminacy. It shows that their basic semantic value is one of attendant circumstance – a mere link between two events or states that form a unit in the speaker’s mind. The characteristics of the co- and context may alter this basic value to give the clause its final (adjectival or adverbial) meaning. The research puts forward hypotheses to account for the syntactic and semantic characteristics of –ing participle clauses within the framework of Gustave Guillaume’s psychosystematic theory: it shows the syntactic and semantic behaviour of –ing clauses can be directly traced back to the meaning of the –ing participle, which, it is hypothesised, has an internal incidence and expresses simultaneity and imperfectivity in all of its uses.
