The Tunali Hilmi Avenue, 1950s-1980s: The Formation Of A Public Place In Ankara

Resuloglu, Cilga 01 July 2011 (has links) (PDF)
In this study, the socio-spatial formation of a public place in Ankara, the capital city of the Turkish Republic, is analyzed between the 1950s and the 1980s. Within this framework, the focus of analysis is the Tunali Hilmi Avenue (earlier &Ouml / zdemir Street) as one of the main streets in Ankara. To understand experiences of daily life in relation to spatial constitution of a public place is vital for this study, because this opens the way for discussing the formation of a &ldquo / street&rdquo / as a public place where social forms and practices come into being in the city. Focusing on the socio-spatial experiences of people on a street as a public place, this study uses visual and written documents about the architectural and planning processes, as well as the information gathered from oral history survey about the experiences of individuals, in order to understand how public life and public place are shaped in a reciprocal manner, and how the spatial formation of a street is realized in relation to daily experiences of its inhabitants. The decades from the foundation of the Turkish Republic until the late-1950s are initially presented as the period when this part of the city transformed from a suburb of vineyards into a residential area. The main period of analysis in this study is from the late 1950s to the late 1980s when the Tunali Hilmi Avenue was formed as a significant public place in Ankara, acquiring residential as well as cultural, recreational and commercial functions to act as an urban sub-center in the city. Aiming to produce a comprehensive architectural history of the socio-spatial formation of the Tunali Hilmi Avenue as a public place, with reference to its public role in a specific period of time, this study examines this process as associated with the contemporary changes in the built environment and daily life of Ankara. From such a broad perspective, the study evaluates the unplanned formation of the Avenue as an urban sub-center not only as an urban or architectural entity but also as a social process.

Musik oss emellan : identitetsdimensioner i ungdomars musikaliska deltagande

Danielsson, Annika January 2012 (has links)
This thesis considers ordinary Swedish teenagers and their everyday use of,and views on, music. The aim of the study is to analyse the relationship between identity and adolescents’ use of music in their daily lives. Theories are employed that hold identity to be a process, and that comprise the social as well as the psychological aspects of the individual (Giddens,1991; 1997; Jenkins, 2008). Since for both Giddens and Jenkins the reflexive identity process takes place in everyday life, it is a concept that is essential to this study. The idea that people are active, not passive, in their day-to-day use of cultural products ultimately leads to Small’s (1998) definition of musicking. The empirical part of the study was carried out among fifteen eighthgraders (14–15 years) in two schools in two Swedish cities. An initial questionnaire provided outlines of the adolescents’ musical preferences, and were followed by focus group conversations centred on six music examples. Later, interviews were carried out to chart the informants’ individual relationships with music and their personal use of it. The material is analysed thematically in three chapters on music and ‘them’, music and ‘us’, and music and ‘me’. In the final chapter, a competent musicking agency is held to be a combinationof individual and social factors. Whether these aspects can coexist boils down to the question of authenticity: much like Giddens’s competent agent, the competent musicking agent moves between life sectors, maintaining balance between uniqueness and normality, and is therefore perceived as authentic by both herself and others. In school, pupils tend to choose music that promotes their public image. Instead of yielding to a tussle between self-image and public image, it is suggested that music education should become a free zone where the well known is looked at in newways, and where one could get to know the unknown.

Göthberg Meiton, Sandra, Olsson, Gisela January 2015 (has links)
Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease with individually  varying symptoms. Each person with MS has their own care needs, depending on which symptoms he/she experiences. The person live with MS the rest of his/her life and new symptoms occur regularly. Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe how people with MS experience how symptoms and care needs affect their everyday lives and to describe the included articles sample method. Method: Descriptive literature review. Articles were searched out through Cinahl and via manual searches. A total of 11 scientific articles emerged, 10 qualitative and 1 withmixed approach, which was included in the study.

Μαντζίλα, Αικατερίνη 25 May 2015 (has links)
This study aims to analyze the content of school Chemistry books taught in the High School in Greece. Initially, given the literature and corresponding curricula detected some criteria according to which the teaching and learning of chemistry becomes more efficient, effective and useful for students. Some of these criteria are: the supplied knowledge to everyday life (society - technology), the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge, the correlation between the studied concepts, usability of knowledge - "need to know", the existence of specific "frame" of teaching, but also students to understand why should study the curriculum. The sample consists of third High school class Chemistry student books (date 2011) and first of Lyceum (date 2011). This study analyzed and compared the two student books based on the criteria of interdisciplinarity and the connection of the provided knowledge to everyday life. First, we investigated whether the above books meet the listed criteria, and to what extent, through mapping and classifying with the listed criteria items included in planned books as chapters, sections, phrases, words, pictures, questions, exercises, etc. Even attempted a comparison between the two teaching Chemistry books third class of high school and firt class of Lyceum, in order to investigate whether outweighs one of the books in criteria in order to demonstrate the existence or not of continuity and consistency in the chemistry education of students. The importance of this research is evident considering the fact that the results of this analysis could provide guidance on educational planning and determining the matter of school chemistry courses and this study could assist teachers in choosing the appropriate educational material and organizing teaching. Additionally, the study could be used to highlight methods, procedures and ways to attract the interest of students and to improve understanding of chemistry.

Östermark, Ragnar January 2013 (has links)
Daily life support is a key success factor in efforts to support vulnerable groups in managing their own living and this is certainly true for addicts. This is a comparative study based on interviews with six daily supporters who work with addicts and six daily supporters who are working with mentally disabled clients. The purpose is to examine their experiences and their perceptions of what the work contains. What justifies the separation of the two groups and what are the consequences for the clients and for the professionals who work with daily life support for the two groups? The result is analyzed with earlier research in the area of daily life support, research concerning the development of professions and theories of social constructivism. The result shows that the categorization may has to do with the focus of the work with living support and that the daily living support for addicts often is directed towards the addicts ability to manage their own accommodation without risking the tenants to be evicted. In addition, the categorization implicates for addicts in terms of the existence of an indirect constraint embedded in the work of daily life support for addicts which is not found in the work of the mentally ill clients. Finally, it is possible to point to a significant difference in terms of consequences for the addicts in relation to the mentally ill group even if the base for the decision of categorization may be uncertain.

Well-Being in its Natural Habitat: Orientations to Happiness and the Experience of Everyday Activities

Grimm, Carsten January 2013 (has links)
Peterson, Park, and Seligman (2005) have proposed that individuals seek to increase their well-being through three behavioural orientations; via pleasure, meaning, and engagement. The current study investigated how orientations to happiness influenced the pursuit and experience of daily activities using an experience sampling methodology (ESM). Daily activities were experienced as a blend of both hedonic and eudaimonic characteristics. Dominant orientation to happiness did not predict engaging in different daily activities. Trait orientations to happiness had some influence on the momentary experience of behaviour. Those scoring highest on all three orientations to happiness also rated their daily activities highest on momentary pleasure, meaning, engagement, and happiness. The results suggest that increasing all three orientations is a pathway to the full life and a balanced well-being portfolio.
