Ekologická etika / Ecological ethics

Valentová, Kristýna January 2019 (has links)
The issue of ecological ethics has often been discussed because it is important for the development of further generations. Nature and culture are not at the same level, yet culture is subordinate to nature. Because of human influence, the harmony of nature is endangered and we live in an ecological crisis. This master's thesis compares the opinions of experts in Czech environment who perceive the ecological ethics, collisions of nature and culture and environmental sphere from the point of philosophy. In the first part, there is a theoretical basis of ecological ethics and the elementary classification. Further, the development of ecological ethics in the Czech phylosophical thinking is presented. In the main part, the author always explores two selected ideas of Czech professionals - Erazim Kohák, Josef Šmajs, Hana Librová, Petr Jemelka and Jan Patočka. The conclusion of the thesis is that although all the authors come from various conceptions, their results are more or less corresponding. It is fundamental to accept a personal responsibility and not to long for power and profit. It is imporant to indicate and become aware of ecological crisis and start to solve it on our own at first (e. g. by voluntary modesty and awareness that we leave a legacy for further generations). We do not need to live...

[en] COSMOPOLITICS OF THE EARTH: MODES OF EXISTENCE AND RESISTANCE IN THE ANTHROPOCENE / [pt] COSMOPOLÍTICAS DA TERRA: MODOS DE EXISTÊNCIA E RESISTÊNCIA NO ANTROPOCENO

ALYNE DE CASTRO COSTA 18 February 2020 (has links)
[en] This thesis aims to investigate, from a philosophical standpoint, possible ways of thinking about what it means to resist in the so-called ecological crisis - that is, the severe anthropogenic changes to Earth s biogeochemical cycles that pushed the planet into a new geological epoch: the Anthropocene. This crisis calls into question the very validity of the main categories that structure what we call western epistemology – which, according to Bruno Latour (1994), is characterized by the distribution of all beings into two (and only two) modes of existence, i.e., either as natural or as cultural entities. Therefore, in order to investigate different manners of resisting, we suggest that it is crucial to consider the particular ways in which other ontologies conceive the beings that inhabit the world, as well as how they describe the processes and interferences that threaten to destroy it. Another reason why we need to adopt this ontological pluralism is that, as this thesis aims to demonstrate, the Earth can be understood as a common ground which exists only through the diverging versions of itself. The unity that constitutes this common ground, however, requires a careful labour of composition: it was precisely an attempt at fabricating a common world whithout this composition that unleashed the current war of worlds (Latour, 2002) that the ecological crisis makes inescapable. Thus (still keeping to Latour s terminology), on one side of this war, stand the Humans - those who, by presuming to possess the definitive knowledge over objective reality, have all along claimed their right to unscrupulously exploit the natural beings (as well as other human beings), thus leading us to the present situation of ecological disorder. On the other side stand the Earthbound, those peoples who consider the Earth and its beings as their true allies in existence, rather than just an infinite source of materials to exploit. This thesis outlines a panorama - a non-exhaustive and, to a large extent, speculative one - of the multiple Earthbound modes of existence and resistance, which provides a glimpse of the possible (cosmo)political uprisings of the Earth and its peoples against the eco-political barbarism ahead.

In order to do so, this work adopts interdisciplinarity, running through the various disciplines that, somehow, establish the needed conversations to show the interdependence between all that live in, and in this form, are part of the planet in its universality. The proposal takes as its core the theory of autopoiesis systems, gravitating quantum physics, theology and philosophy in search of an original element common to all and everyone that justify the pretension of contributing to an paradigmatic change in Law and society, abandoning the anthropocentric perspective definitely for the establishment of a polycentric biopolitic affirmative, achieving, thus, the spin necessary to surpass the ecological crisis in which the world is drowning in / A presente tese objetiva aprofundar o tema da dignidade do planeta Terra, eixo do marco teórico do Capitalismo Humanista, levando ao cabo a proposta do reconhecimento da dignidade planetária como vetor da Constituição brasileira.

It means that they (our thoughts and our actions) would have the human needs and wishes satisfaction as their only goals. However, a careful investigation about the relationship among humans could perhaps unveil that we are not antropocentric yet. The aim of this work is to enlighten this: whether we think and act in an antropocentric way as it seems to be largely accepted. / The choices of energy sources gain relevance in the face of the ecological crisis which has a central questioning on the modes of production and consumption and that stems from a system which changes everything into merchandise. On one hand, brazilian electricity generation has the advantage of using clean energy in great part of its composition, at least in discourse. On the other hand, though, there are high social and environmental costs, especially for communities living near the regions where projects for the electricity sector are built. This research aimed to identify and analyse different modes society takes part in the process of choosing energy sources for electricity generation in Brazil. It discusses the links between the ecological crisis and the production of electrical energy; how the institutional mechanisms for social participation on issues related to the production of electric power in Brazil work; and, how civil society participates in environmental licensing in the National Environment Council (CONAMA). A set of related approaches to the nature of the ecological crisis and the forms of social participation was adopted in the theoretical framework and an analysis of the electric sector panorama in Brazil has been drawn up. In order to investigate the forms society participates in issues related to the composition of the brazilian electricity matrix, the methodology comprised a documentary analysis and a case study. They included three categories of actors: (i) CONAMA's councilors, (ii) experts from the Field; and (iii) actors involved in the diagnosis study, planning and management of the electricity sector. The research identified inconsistencies, ambiguities and other relevant issues about the participation of society in the production of electrical energy. Such issues are related to: deficiencies in the mechanisms for information access; lack of transparency and patterns in internal documents; lack of social participation in the elaboration of international commitments; absence of participation of the society in institutionalized spaces; absence of representation of the society and specialists in the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE); invisibility of the discussion on possible impacts and social conflicts; lack of diversity's representation; deficiency in minority participation; lack of citizenship education initiatives focused on energy issue; absence of debates on energy production versus consumption; problems arising from developmental choice of Government decisions (even if implied). At the end, the present research offer suggestions for the improvement of this process, from the perspective of three key issues identified in this thesis: ecological crisis; electric power production; and social participation. The study concludes by pointing to the need of changes in the modes society’ participate in the process of choosing energy sources for the electrical energy production at the federal level in Brazil. In addition, it proposes a reflection on the model of generation and consumption of electricity and a systematic evaluation of human consumption on natural resources.

This thesis about "The socio-ecological crisis in the capital labyrinth: an analysis of the relationship between humanity and nature from the concepts of entropy and socio-metabolism" has as its starting point the crisis scenario of the current capitalism, which, in a historical sense, has spread itself all over the world under the domain of the goods. It can be noticed in two ways. The first one is in social terms in cases as structural unemployment and work precariousness, the other one is in ecological terms ranging from soil disruption by industrial and homogeneous agriculture to global warming, with catastrophic forecasts for the present and for the future. This limit relationship reveals, somehow, what Marx called metabolic failure or crack under the productive and social relationships, from the behest of the capitalist production way, or what Georgescu-Roegen called entropic process of irreversibility. Emphasizing the synthesis of these two theoretical perspectives, the thesis lies on the questioning about the existence of a deep socio-ecological crisis, where its theoretical and practical ground lies on socio-metabolism. It is in the Marxist sense, and in the notion of entropy, from the bio-economy, as a powerful tool to have a qualitative interpretation and comprehension of the social and environmental relations in this time with "A whole manifesto". Thus, the thesis aims to contribute to the field of human sciences and intends to propose a careful and wide vision of the relationships between humanity and nature as well as the role of education facing this process, beyond the capital plots and the ideology of green development. The structure of the thesis is a deepening of Marx's thought about nature and metabolism, and the entropy issue in Georgescu-Roegen, as well as the theoretical and practical evidence of these two worldviews. To do so, it proposes a whole structured to analyze the socio-ecological crisis. In the first chapter, in the theoretical framework, using the thought of Georgescu-Roegen and Marx. In the second one, the double vision of the crisis and the limits of green development. In the third chapter, the historicity of the crisis from the metabolism evolution to the role of subject and education as one of the necessary dimensions for other metabolic/entropic and conciliatory system between humanity and nature. Finally in the fourth chapter, where metabolism and entropy are articulated as a leap in quality.

Análisis del concreto con sustitución parcial del agregado fino por agregado de polietileno de alta densidad (HDPE) para concreto no estructural en Lima / Analysis of concrete with partial substitution of fine aggregate by high-density polyethylene (HDPE) aggregate for non-structural concrete in Lima

Mendoza Castillo, José Luis, Vilchez Carbajal, Manuela Stephania 23 February 2021 (has links)
In recent years, the world is going through a great ecological crisis, in order to contribute to the reduction of waste levels, in concrete technology there is a proposal to use plastic waste as aggregates in the manufacture of concrete. For this reason, the objective of this work is to demonstrate that the incorporation of HDPE aggregate as a partial replacement for fine aggregate will improve the properties that increase the durability of concrete. This research includes an experimental methodology that ranges from the preparation of HDPE as fine aggregate, analysis of the plastic aggregate, the design of mixtures of the concrete pattern and study concrete with 10%, 20% and 30% partial replacement of the fine aggregate, tests physical and mechanical to a sampling of 64 specimens, until the analysis of the results. From the obtaining of results, it is realized that the sample that has a 30% replacement reduces the unit weight to 86% compared to the standard sample, that is, that it has a variation inversely proportional to the percentage replacement amount. Regarding the mechanical properties, the compressive strength increases up to 17.7% with the sample of 20% replacement of fine aggregate by HDPE, the tensile and flexural strength increase up to 60.76% and 13.7% respectively in relation to the sample with 30% partial replacement of fine aggregate by HDPE. In the resistance to carbonation, no change or variation is recorded in the pattern and the different combinations. / Tesis

Odpovědná individuální spotřeba jako první krok z ekologické krize / Responsible individual consumption as the first step out of the environmental crisis

Hosnedlová, Alena January 2015 (has links)
The thesis deals with the problem of global ecological crisis caused by excessive consumption of material goods, particularly in countries of "The Rich North" (western countries). In the theoretical part I set up individualized man as a consumer in the system of modern society, which indicates the conditions of its existence mainly through the market. I discuss the possible way out of the ecological crisis through ideological changes in the company initiated from the "bottom", based on the internalization of values leading to responsible and moderate consumption. I demonstrate alternative ways of life, environmentally friendly in terms of consumption, and discuss the obstacles and ways of its spread. The research was conducted through interviews with eco-advisers who are dealing with consumption, as potential "opinion leaders" in this case. I tried to look their conception of responsible consumption and their potential impact on society in favor of spreading the idea of an environmentally responsible way of life Key words Ecological crisis, consumption, consumerism, modernity, individualization, values, responsible consumption, modesty, environmentally friendly way of life
