"Heimat Südtirol" : la cohabitation des germanophones et des italophones dans le département de Bolzane (Italie) / "Heimat Südtirol" : the coexistence of German- and Italian-speaking inhabitants of the province of Bolzano (Italy)

Kofler, Ingrid 26 September 2015 (has links)
This study analyses the coexistence between the German- and Italian-speaking population of the province of Bolzano - South Tyrol. The focus is on approaches that can explain the separated realities of these two linguistic groups. Before the annexation to Italy in 1918, South Tyrol was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Two thirds of the population speaks German and preserve its linguistic and cultural features due to its administrative and legislative autonomy, which has been obtained after long struggles for recognition. This has produced a social system, which is based on the separation of the two linguistic groups supported by institutions, for instance schools, reinforced by politics and media. These developments led to a widespread identitary uneasiness of the Italian-speaking population. The central question is on how this "ethnic" separation is based on and could be preserved. It was supposed that this "South Tyrol model" is not questioned as it is perceived as a "second nature". By studying the everyday life, the perceptions and visions of the German- and Italian-speaking population, this study intends to provide explanations to the largely separated coexistence. This study uses a qualitative research approach. Group interviews were conducted with members of the Geman- and Italian-speaking population in different municipalities. In addition, expert interviews were carried out with political representatives. Results of this study suggest that different factors explain the separated coexistence by linguistic belonging: the collective memories and their transmission to younger generations; the relationships of power and domination; the definitions of "we" and the other; as well as the different South Tyrolean identities of the German- and Italian-speaking population. Encounters between the two linguistic groups are additionally hampered by the different languages and the institutional separation. The division is internalised by the two linguistic groups and practiced in accordance. This results in a dynamic of reproduction that perpetuates this model of coexistence. The Heimat as "lifeworld", which manifests itself in this separation, plays an important role for the coexistence. The "utopian dimension" of the Heimat (Bloch) does not allow to escape and to imagine a possible future which would overcome this specific type of lifeworld "Heimat Südtirol". On the contrary, this is left to the fatalism and future generations.

Heimat Berlin

Bortz, Harald 18 August 2004 (has links)
The first part of the dissertation describes the history of local museums and the history of scientific research on the concept of Heimat. Not only historical and ethnographic studies are taken into account, but also sociological and anthropological theories which were formulated against the background of the debate on globalisation. In this way Heimat and locality are treated as equivalent terms. The second empirical part describes and analyses the local museums of the districts Köpenick, Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg and Neukölln in Berlin. The focus lies on the research on main and temporary exhibitions and the analysis of the role of material culture within the framework of the museums. This means the examination of both the thematic structuring of the exhibitions and the range of objects and their presentation. In the course of this material culture studies are taken into consideration. Coming from the first two parts a museum concept is formulated. This concept takes up the characteristics of the museums and adds the considerations on the terms Heimat and locality. In conclusion local museums are regarded as ethnographic museums which are able to reflect current social developments and discussions.

Heimat : Diachrone Analyse eines Lexems in einsprachigen deutschen Wörterbüchern (1877-2017)

Feldwisch, Ortrun January 2017 (has links)

IRCHENHAUSER, MARIA REGINA 23 September 2009 (has links)
This thesis explores the representation of Heimat in contemporary German novels and films by authors and directors born in the 1960s and 1970s within the context of globalisation. The following texts and films are examined: Hierankl (2003) and Winterreise (2006) by Hans Steinbichler, Wer früher stirbt, ist länger tot (2006) and Beste Gegend (2008) by Marcus H. Rosenmüller, Der Geschmack von Apfelkernen (2008) by Katharina Hagena, Klausen (2002) by Andreas Maier, and Usambara (2007) by Christof Hamann. I argue that the static notion of the concept of Heimat and concomitant concepts of identity are challenged by these authors and filmmakers as they pit them against the cultural, political, and social changes brought on by globalisation with its altered notions of identity. Within German political and public discourse, globalisation is often presented as a foreign concept threatening German institutions, customs, and even national identity itself. The dynamics between dwelling and travel/movement are at the centre of the films and novels under discussion. Each of the four chapters focuses on one of the major topics of current literary discourses of Heimat and globalisation: changing images and roles of women in general and mothers in particular; the house, which has often been fundamental in representations of Heimat, as the site at which patriarchal norms and values are being renegotiated; nature and environment as sites of threatened Heimat within the context of Heimat, tourism, and Umweltschutz; and Africa as other Heimat, threatened by, yet relatively untouched by globalisation. In their exploration of notions of Heimat, all of the texts and films discussed in this thesis self-consciously refer to the texts and films of the Heimat and the anti-Heimat genre respectively. But far from focusing on the tainted notion of Heimat within the German historical and political context, as did the generation of 1968 in their films and texts, the new generation of writers and filmmakers marks notions of Heimat much more positively and appropriates them for its own purposes. Nostalgia, irony, and ambivalence are the major characteristics of the new “Heimatroman” and “Heimatfilm.” / Thesis (Ph.D, German) -- Queen's University, 2009-09-23 18:40:27.127

Robert Seethaler Ein ganzes Leben - ein Heimatroman zwischen Naturalismus und Ökokritik? / Robert Seethaler Ein ganzes Leben – a Heimat Novel between Naturalism and Ecocriticism?

Johansson, Nils January 2021 (has links)
This essay is based on Robert Seethaler's novel A Whole Life (Ein ganzes Leben). At the centre of the novel is the main character Andreas Egger and the fictional story describes his long life in a village in the Austrian mountains in the twentieth century. The main character's relationship to, perception of, and interaction with nature is the basis of the thesis as well as how the natural world constituted a place for a variety of interests at the time. Close reading is the method used for the analysis. The aim of this work is to investigate, based on previous research, how the concept of Heimat is illustrated in the text and which characteristics from naturalistic literature are used to emphasise the text's ecocritical perspective.

Beer Festival and Place Identity : An Analysis of Munich Oktoberfest And Qingdao International Beer Festival

Wang, Rucheng January 2022 (has links)
As microcosms of German and Chinese societies, Munich Oktoberfest and Qingdao International Beer Festival are important manifestations of local culture. This study intends to answer the following question: to which extent are beer festivals in Germany and China related to local history and the local sense of place? A historical overview of the beer festivals in Munich and Qingdao is provided, as well as an analysis of how people seeking a sense of belonging creatively combine cognitive schemata of modernity with local cultural systems on a symbolic level. Through textual analysis and interviews, this study attempts to explore the historical development of beer festivals in Germany and China and provide an analysis case of place identity through beer symbols and tourist experience based on a historical and geographical framework regarding uniqueness, authenticity, liminality and local identity. Originating in local history, Oktoberfest has evolved from a folk festivity to a globally known tourist spectacle. Faced with modernisation, "Heimat" helps Germany in smoothing the tension between the traditional sense of place and the modern nation-state identity. As a former German colony, Qingdao celebrates its beer festival emphasising recreation and enjoyment above traditions. The local beer-related customs such as plastic bags and drinking with seafood reflect the cultural hybridity of Qingdao in which consumerism and nostalgia are combined in reaction to the vast tourism generated by globalisation and modernisation. It remains a challenge for beer festivals both in Germany and China facing homogenisation and commercialisation to maintain a genuine connection with people, especially the locals. Future work on beer festivals could explore a variety of beer events in other historical, national and contextual settings, different perspectives as well as genderisation, which will enrich the study on festival tourism and place identity.

The home as a foreign place in film : A case study of The Foster Boy (Der Verdingbub, Markus imboden, 2011), Undine (Undine, Christian Petzold, 2020) and Synonyms (Synonymes, Nadav Lapid, 2019)

Bühl, Vera January 2022 (has links)
This thesis explores the home as a foreign place in the three films The Foster Boy (Der Verdingbub, Markus Imboden, 2011), Undine (Undine, Christian Petzold, 2020) and Synonyms (Synonymes, Nadav Lapid, 2019). The theoretical framework draws on the concepts of Heimat and home as well as on aspects of diaspora, exile and nomadism, which are combined in a conceptualisation to which I refer to as ‘the foreign home’. Relevant literary sources are Hamid Naficy, David Morley, Peter Blickle and others. The film analysis discusses how the foreign home is narrated and expressed on the narrative itself as well as on the stylistic and aesthetic level. The discussion of the foreign home occurs in reference to an underlying storytelling structure in which the home and the non-home become one place, the foreign home. The underlying storytelling structure entails five different sections that reveal the foreign home and its gradual development. These sections are: leaving home and moving on, the space and the objects of the new home, modes of displacement, adjustment to the new home, and hostility and opposition in the new home. The analysis is conducted based on these sections. This research contributes to the study of home in film and focuses especially on the opposite relationship of the home as a foreign place in film.
