Parental involvement in primary schools : a case study of three socio-economic disparate schools in Ile-Ife, Nigeria

Rofiat Omolola Obayopo 03 July 2018 (has links)
Parental involvement (PI) in three socio-economic disparate primary schools in Ile-Ife in Nigeria was investigated in the study. The study explored the effect of socio-economic status on PI using three schools representing the Lower socioeconomic status (LSES), Middle socio-economic status (MSES) and Higher socioeconomic status (HSES). The study reported how parents of three different income groups practice and perceive PI and how teachers perceive PI at the schools and what their expectations are regarding PI. The data used for empirical investigation was drawn from 15 parents and 15 teachers at each of the three schools. The parents were selected using convenience sampling and were individually interviewed while teachers are selected by purposeful random sampling and data was collected using focus group interviews and survey questionnaires. Results shows that parents’ available time, interest, level of education, social capital, parent-teacher contact and socio-economic status (SES) affected PI of which time, SES and interest were the most important factors affecting PI. PI is evidenced in all SES groups as joint cooperation between parents and teachers in support of children’s scholastic pursuit. The study suggests that, contrary to conventional opinion, parents of LSES generally have high educational goals for their children and evidence noteworthy PI practices. PI should be strengthened by building on existing positive endeavors and addressing areas of PI which are lagging behind. Strategies to strengthen these endeavors are recommended in conclusion of the study. / Educational Leadership and Management / M. Ed. (Education Management)

Möglichkeiten der Einflussnahme ländlicher Entwicklungsförderungen auf die Wahrung „Ländlicher Baukultur“

Arnhold, Jost 10 July 2014 (has links) (PDF)

Características do processo de ingestão de forragem por cordeiras em pastagem de azevém nos diferentes estádios fenológicos / Characteristics of forage intake process by lambs on italian ryegrass pature at different phenological stages

Camargo, Daniele Gindri 16 December 2008 (has links)
Characteristics of forage intake process by lambs grazing Italian ryegrass pasture (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) were studied, from the hypothesis that different phenological stages of the plant may influence the food gathering process by grazing animals. The experiment was carried out from May to November of 2007 in the Federal University of Santa Maria. Evaluations where made in three occasions within phenological stages of annual ryegrass: Vegetative (11/09), Pre-flowering (14/10) and Flowering (11/11). Eight female lambs (45.0 ± 4.3 kg), Ile de France x Texel crossbreed, with an average age of eight months were utilized. To quantify intake rate and grazing behavior parameters by lambs, grazing tests were conducted. Forage mass, sward height, vertical structure of the pasture and chemical composition of the forage apparently ingested by the lambs were evaluated to determine pasture characteristics. A completely randomized design with three treatments and five replicates in the vegetative stage and six replicates in the other phenological stages was used. Intake rate, bite mass and bite depth were similar (P>0.05) between different stages with a forage on offer of 13.7kg of dry matter per 100kg of live weight. At vegetative stage, bite rate is negatively determined by sward height. At pre-flowering and flowering stages grazing time is positively influenced by sward height. The bite depth is positively influenced by the sward height and negatively influenced by stem bulk density in all phenological stages. The bite rate is negatively influenced by sward height at the vegetative stage of Italian Ryegrass. At the pre-flowering and flowering stage the grazing time is positively influenced by sward height. Grazing time (GT= 27.46 + 0.09day) and number of bites (NB= -175.04 + 9.41day) increased linearly during the pasture cycle. The smaller bite rate was at 135º day after Italian ryegrass emergence and the greater time per bite happened at 146º day. In non limiting forage on offer, lambs maintained the rate of intake constant by increasing bite rate. Among the herbage attributes, the sward height is the most important to determine changes in the grazing behavior of lambs on Italian Ryegrass pasture.

La diaspora de la chambre 107 : ethnographie des pratiques musicales et dansées des Soninkés en Ile-de-France / Finding One’s Place through Music : an Ethnography from a Shelter for Migrant Workers to the Soninke Diaspora

Clouet, Claire 25 October 2018 (has links)
The Soninkes come from a borderland between Mali, Mauritania and Senegal. Their presence in France has been studied in terms of labour migration, but not as a cultural and artistic diaspora. My work concentrates on this unnoticed social dimension. The ethnographic survey begins in the standardised rooms of a Parisan shelter for migrant workers. First of all, I study how the shelter’s inhabitants, only men, shape their living space through sound. They live in confined spaces but the music they listen to and the videos they look at on their smartphones refer to a plethora of spaces in the Paris region and in West Africa. To explore these communities, I join a Soninké dance troupe called Xhambane Kaffo (We are all united in the same language) located in Sarcelles, a short drive north of Paris. Following the dancers and the musicians of this troupe, I go to reception halls, to municipal spaces, to theatres where they lead wedding parties, cultural days, association meetings and elections of diaspora queens. The survey moves then to West Africa : first to Dakar and Bakel, Senegal, following the artistic journey of the Xhambane Kaffo’s troupe director ; then to Mauritania, to meet the families of the Parisian migrant workers. Moving from one point to another allowed me to show how these men, categorized as migrants and single, sit within both a transnational and interpersonal social network. My work argues that if some cultural and artistic practices, such as the Soninkés’ diasporic encounters, are categorized as « invisible » in the urban area, it is because they are seen through a sedentary vision of space.

TRAITE DE PSYCHOPATHOLOGIE ET THERAPEUTIQUE REUNIONNAISES

Brandibas, Jacques 15 November 2003 (has links) (PDF)

Lagarde, Benjamin 13 December 2012 (has links)
Whereas a reflexive chapter, focused on the progressive immersion we realised among the actors of possessions cults from afro-malagasy origins living in Reunion Island, had been primarly thought to join this thesis, the main effort consists here in the documentation of the maloya. Effectively, an overlook to what's been said of this traditionnal music requiered such a missing work attached to an element recently inscribed on the UNESCO patrimonial list. Resuming the available knowledge about the maloya, which is considered since the early moment of the colonization as the reunionese « Black music », the purpose was to reach the modern era and then underlying the importance of this esthetical practice in the definition of what could be called, under certain conditions, this « kréol identity ». The post-colonial role that played maloya during the years 1960-1970 appears newly as we emphasize his historical implications. We've also been able to relocate the common point of vue already existing of the maloya in scientifical field as well as on the public scene from the musicians and their cultual significations. Analyzing, for example, his four distincts repertories, we open to an original understanding of the past and the present of a creolized culture that had always took music as a fundement of its existence. This work makes also possible the reflexion about the place of the « Kaf » (Reunionneses of black origins) in this cultural construction, and maybe, the one of the afro-descendents and their so-called « black music » in the invention of our new globalized world.

Intérêt du travail institutionnel dans les dynamiques de filières agricoles : le cas de l'ile Maurice / Institutional work and the dynamics of agricultural value chains : the case of Mauritius

Ramasawmy, Brinda 27 February 2014 (has links)
This research work aimed at using sociological neo institutionalism and its key concepts, institutional logics, and institutional work to understand the work undertaken by actors in an agricultural value chain. We have chosen the Mauritian vegetable value chain, in the context of an institutional change, as a field of study to apply the theoretical concepts. An exploratory study was carried out to validate the theoretical framework selected. Thematic content analysis allowed us to identify the institutional logics of the vegetable value chain as well as the different types and forms of institutional work undertaken by the incumbent and new actors. This research work allows us to conclude that the use of the concept of institutional work to understand the dynamics of an agricultural value chain is important as the sociological lens enables researchers to better understand actors' behavior in a value chain.Key words: sociological neo institutionalism, institutional logics, and institutional, agricultural value chain, thematic analysis, qualitative comparative analysis

La fabrique des "gares du quotidien" : imaginaires et fonctions symboliques d'une nouvelle catégorie du Grand Paris / The fabric of 'everyday life' stations : imaginaries and symbolic functions of a new category of the Greater Paris

Avide, Elise 12 March 2018 (has links)
The beginning of the years 2010s saw a terminological shift within political discourses: railway stations in the Île-de-France region, previously designated as ‘suburban stations’, increasingly became known as ‘everyday life stations’. Unlike other trending expressions such as ‘sensitive neighbourhoods’ or ‘agglomerations’, this expression does not relate to a well-identified political or administrative category. Nonetheless, it appears in public debate at a peculiar moment, in the context of the Greater Paris (Grand Paris) project, as if it were precipitated by a wide array of actors sharing conveying ideals and strategies. It is also accompanied by important work in the stations of these networks. As a result, this substitution cannot be incidental, and the term ‘everyday life’ indeed refers to imaginaries that differ substantially from the previously used adjective – ‘suburban’. By analysing the representations conveyed by different forms of stakeholders’ narratives, and by exploring stations and the urban projects they are part of in the Seine Aval territory, this dissertation seeks to unravel the fractures and discontinuities that allow for the emergence of ‘everyday life stations’ as a new category of the Greater Paris, its interweaving meanings, and the way in which it renews the materiality of spaces. Its ambition is thus to discuss more broadly the imaginary functions of categorisation in urban fabric. In doing so, the work offers a new reading grid for the contemporary history of planning in the Île-de-France region. By looking through the lens of ‘everyday life’, it uncovers a number of shifts in the relationships between actors in the transportation and urban planning sectors, with suburban areas and their inhabitants. This approach is also insightful for the assessment of professional segmentations and power relations at work

Improving the process? A study of learner autonomy, interaction & technology-enhanced language-learning environments

Turk, Deborah, n/a January 2005 (has links)
Is it possible for technological spaces to be created that can provide a community atmosphere one in which learners are not restrained by pre-determined syllabi and have the ability to direct their learning according to their own interests, pace and goals? If so, it would be notable to discover which kinds of interactions might be possible, or might eventuate, and how the participants in such a learning space would organize themselves. Also of interest would be the kinds of power structures that emerged through participant interaction, the direction/interactions undertaken by the participants and the improvements that could be made in order to respect and accommodate the differences between learners in a social online learning space. In order to further study this hypothesised need to investigate these questions, this researcher developed an online, English as a Second/Foreign Language learning environment for advanced adult learners of English. She reviewed the appropriate literature in order to theorise how to commence this research direction and investigated various learning platforms and software tools. The result was the development of a multiplatform environment which consisted of a content management system and a 3D microworld. Tools, exercises and content were developed and/or gathered as starting points for learners and the various software had to be learnt in order to orient others on their use. Finally, the environment was trialed over a four week duration with a group of advanced to native speakers of English (volunteers) and the results have been presented in this thesis for discussion. The trial, entitled the ILE Project, attempted to study the problems involved in the technical development of such spaces, to observe the interactions between the learners in a 3D microworld and uncover issues relating to its implementation. Some issues raised by the project concerned techno-literacy, personality-driven interaction differences and organizational power shifts within the 3D community. This thesis closes with an argument that redefines the notion of the learner autonomy, proposes certain modifications to both the pedagogic and technical structure of the online environment and discusses the issues raised in this research. The latter discussion would require further re-conceptualization of the spaces, stakes and support structures that educators can create/provide in an attempt to improve online language learning.
