Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro / Em sua teoria do conhecimento, cuja formulação definitiva se encontra na segunda parte da Ethica, Spinoza afirma que o conhecimento que se dá por meio de signos pertence à Imaginação, isto é, ao primeiro gênero de conhecimento, o qual é essencialmente inadequado uma vez que não consegue compreender a natureza das coisas, mas simplesmente as conhece de forma mutilada e confusa. Contudo, atribuir o conhecimento ex signis ao âmbito imaginativo não pode implicar a recusa, por parte de Spinoza, de toda e qualquer utilização de signos a fim de comunicar o conhecimento verdadeiro, sob pena de o próprio texto da Ethica deslegitimar suas pretensões de verdade já no momento mesmo em que se anuncia. Partindo do princípio de que deve haver certo modo de utilização de signos que consiga contornar, em alguma medida, sua constituição essencialmente inadequada a fim de comunicar idéias adequadas, a presente investigação reconstrói uma teoria da linguagem subjacente à doutrina da Ethica na tentativa de estabelecer por que meios se pode efetuar uma utilização filosófica dos signos. / In his theory of knowledge, whose ultimate presentation can be found in the second part of the Ethics, Spinoza points out the imaginative (and hence inadequate) nature of the knowledge we have through signs. It means that this knowledge, being essentially fragmented and confused, is in fact unable to understand the genuine nature of things. However, asserting the imaginative nature of the knowledge ex signis can by no means imply that Spinoza is refusing the possibility of each and every usage of signs as a valid way to express adequate ideas, or else the text of the Ethics would be delegitimating its pretensions of truth in the very moment it enunciates itself. Assuming that it must exist a way of using signs that manages to overcome somehow the essentially inadequate nature of the knowledge related to it in order to communicate an adequate knowledge, the present investigation reconstructs what can be called an underlying theory of language latent in Spinozas Ethics, trying to establish how a philosophical usage of signs becomes possible and effective.

Through the analyses of the contents, we seek to identify the stereotypes for which the black people are still represented at these days. Considering the practices and symbolic dimension of racism, we began our dissertation examining the role of the State in the construction of racial inequalities and the process of black people resistance launch at various historical moments. In a second moment, based on Roger Chartie’s concepts of representation and the concept of social imagination elaborated by Baczko, we show how the ideal of racial bleaching and miscegenation contributed with the formation of a national identity substantiated on the racism. This research enabled us to elaborate a Weblog that offers workshops plans for teachers to have access to pedagogical tools that may contribute to a teaching practice focused on the valorization of ethnic-racial diversity. / Esta pesquisa tem como principal objetivo compreender o racismo na contemporaneidade, tomando como fontes, postagens racistas contra negros, veiculadas nas redes sociais Facebook e Twitter. Através da análise de conteúdo, buscamos identificar os estereótipos pelos quais o negro é representado ainda nos dias de hoje. Considerando a dimensão prática e simbólica do racismo, iniciamos a nossa dissertação examinando o papel do Estado na construção das desigualdades raciais e os processos de resistência negra empreendidos nos diversos momentos históricos. Num segundo momento, com base nos conceitos de representação de Roger Chartier (1991) e imaginário social formulado por Baczko (1985) mostramos como o ideal de branqueamento e mestiçagem, contribuíram para a formação de uma identidade nacional fundamentada pelo racismo. Essa pesquisa nos possibilitou a elaborar um Web Blog que disponibiliza planos de oficinas para que professores/as tenham acesso a ferramentas pedagógicas que poderão contribuir para uma prática docente voltada para a valorização da diversidade étnico-racial.

Neste estudo, trato do papel do raciocínio analógico no pensamento de Georg Simmel (1858-1918), um dos fundadores da sociologia alemã. Meu objetivo aqui é compreender o procedimento analógico como um traço fundamental da teoria social e da epistemologia de Simmel. É possível resumir o primeiro passo para a realização desse objetivo como uma reconstrução daqueles fragmentos da história do conceito de analogia que influenciaram seu pensamento. Busquei, em seguida, coletar todas as ocorrências de analogia que fui capaz de encontrar (e identificar enquanto tais) em meio aos livros de Simmel que mais teriam influenciado a sociologia (a saber: a Philosophie des Geldes e a Soziologie) construindo, assim, um índice abrangente para tais analogias. Finalmente, procurei analisar algumas das analogias coletadas em detalhe, mantendo o foco naquelas que, a meu ver, lançam alguma luz ou estão de algum modo relacionadas a outros traços fundamentais do pensamento sociológico e filosófico de Simmel. / In this study I deal with the role of analogical reasoning in the thought of Georg Simmel (1858-1918), one of the founders of German sociology. My aim here is to grasp the analogy-making as a key feature of Simmels social theory and epistemology. The first step in this direction can be summed up as a recollection of those fragments of the history of the analogy concept which most likely influenced Simmels thought. Secondly, I endeavored to collect all the instances of analogy that I could find (and identify as such) from those of his books which are deemed to be the most influential ones to sociology (viz., the Philosophie des Geldes and the Soziologie) elaborating, as a result, a broad index of such analogies. And finally I sought to analyze in minute detail some of the collected analogies, focusing on those which, on my view, shed light on or bear some relation to other key features of Simmels sociological and philosophical thought.

Este trabalho versa sobre o problema do desencadeamento para a psicanálise e toma por fio condutor alguns casos freudianos. O tema sublinhado foi concebido como um ponto clínico fundamental, que remete o psicanalista tanto à questão diagnóstica quanto à investigação etiológica. Neste sentido, destacamos que o surgimento de sintomas e do surto psicótico mereceu particular atenção ao longo de nossas linhas. Verificamos que, depois de Freud, a presença de uma conversão histérica ou de um delírio paranóico logo indicava uma direção para o tratamento e também indagava a psicanálise acerca das causas precipitadoras de tais quadros. Pois bem, sobretudo nos intrigou a pesquisa sobre as dimensões causais de um desencadeamento. Para realizá-la seguimos primeiro Freud e sua complexa teoria da causalidade psíquica e depois Jacques Lacan, que, de maneira peculiar, soube destacar o inédito freudiano e postular uma noção de causalidade que designamos como própria à psicanálise e pertinente ao desencadeamento. / This work seeks to explore the question of triggering off in psychoanalytic theory by examining some Freudian cases. The theme was conceived as a key clinical aspect which poses for the psychoanalyst the questions of diagnosis and of etiological investigation. In this sense, we highlight that the emergence of symptoms and of psychotic breakdown were particularly important to this work. We verified that since Freud, either the hysterical conversion or the paranoid delirium indicated the direction of the treatment; and raised concerns about the emerging causes of these conditions. In this study the causal dimensions of triggering off was particularly intriguing. To accomplish this investigation, we first drew upon Freuds theories of the psychic causality and proceeded to the study of Jacques Lacan who in a particular manner highlighted Freudians findings and postulated a notion of causality that is central to psychoanalysis and strongly related to the idea of triggering off.

Era uma vez, um homem... seu nome era Mário Ramos Nogueira e ele vivia no interior de São Paulo. Em 1949, tudo que ele tinha na vida eram 72 bois; veio a peste e os atacou. Então, na véspera do natal, o homem fez um pacto: se Deus salvasse seu gado, construiria um presépio que seria aumentado enquanto vida tivesse. Aí, Deus curou os bois; seu Mário comprou um presépio e começou a construir uma cidadezinha ao seu redor... passaram-se os anos e a cidadezinha virou uma verdadeira metrópole, cheia de arranha-céus, avenidas, luzes e movimento as pessoas faziam fila na frente da casa do seu Mário para ver a cidade! Mas um dia, por um encantamento, a cidade desapareceu! Capturada pelas narrativas sobre a Cidade Miniatura do Mário, senti-me compelida a reverberar seu mito; a história dessa cidadezinha suscita muitas indagações sobre o desejo, a memória, a imaginação, a expressão poética; esses são temas atinentes aos estudos sobre a subjetividade e ao universo artístico mas, em seus desdobramentos, adentram os campos da psicologia socioambiental e da história: a vida política, o tempo presente, a urbanização, as utopias hegemônicas, as práticas discursivas, a oralidade o presente trabalho resultou de um esforço para identificar alguns pontos enigmáticos de intersecção dessas indagações. Tomadas como estilhas da memória, imaginação e enunciação, as imagens da cidadezinha e as narrativas de sua história foram contempladas pelo prisma metodológico da fenomenologia hermenêutica; desse modo, desvelaram-se formas elaboradas de expressão de desejos e sofrimentos inscritos nas fronteiras entre os planos psíquico, cultural, histórico e político. Enunciou-se assim, agora nas fronteiras entre a expressão poética, a psicologia social e a história, uma nova narrativa, que interpreta a Cidade Miniatura do Mário como figuração plástica de enigmas humanos universais; sua criação, como uma tentativa singular de decifrá-los. / Once upon a time, a man his name was Mario Ramos Nogueira and he lived in the interior of Sao Paulo. In 1949, everything that he had in his life was 72 oxen; the pest arrived and attacked them. Then, in Christmas Eve, the man made a pact: if God saved his cattle, he would build a Presepe that would be increased while he had life. Then, God cured the oxen; Mário bought a presepe and started to construct one small town around it the years passed by and the small town turned to a true metropolis, full of skyscrapers, avenues, light and movement - the people made line in front of Mário´s house to see the city! But one day, as under a spell, the city disappeared! Captured by the narratives of Mário´s Miniature City, I felt myself compelled to reverberate its myth; the history of this small town excites many investigations on the desire, the memory, the imagination, the poetical expression; these are referent subjects to the studies on subjectivity and to artistic universe, but, in its unfoldings, they penetrate the fields of socioambiental psychology and of history: the political life, the present time, the urbanization, the hegemonic utopias, the discursive practices, the orality - the present work resulted of an effort to identify some enigmatic intersection points of these investigations. Taking as memory fragments, imagination and enunciation, the images of the small town and the narratives of its history had been contemplated by the methodological prism of the hermeneutic phenomenology; in this manner, elaborated forms of expression of desires and pain inscribed in the borders of the psychic, cultural, historical and politician plans were unveiled. It was enunciated thus, now in the poetical expression, social psychology and history frontiers, a new narrative that interprets the Marios Miniature City as a plastic figuration of universal human enigmas; its creation, as a singular attempt to decipher them.

O objetivo desta investigação foi avaliar a eficácia de uma estratégia de psicoterapia breve e grupal baseada em exercícios de fantasia dirigida, e se tal eficácia estava relacionada à atitude das pessoas atendidas frente à imaginação, à vivacidade de suas imagens mentais e ao controle que tinham sobre estas. Os exercícios imagéticos foram realizados com o intuito de promover estados levemente alterados de consciência que, por sua vez, permitissem a ativação de potenciais psicológicos supraconscientes. Isso com o propósito de auxiliar estudantes universitários a superarem problemas de ansiedade em situações de prova e exame. As medidas de um grupo experimental (n=32) em escalas de ansiedade e atitude frente à imaginação, bem como de vivacidade e controle de imagens mentais, tomadas antes e após a realização do tratamento psicoterápico, foram comparadas às de um grupo de controle (n=50). E a análise estatística dos resultados obtidos forneceu indícios claros do sucesso da terapêutica empregada, mas não da relação entre esse sucesso e as variáveis ligadas a imagens mentais que foram levadas em conta. / This investigation\'s purpose was to evaluate the efficacy of brief group psychotherapy based on guided imagery, and if this efficacy was related to clients\' attitude toward imagination and clients\' imagery vividness and control. Guided imagery, aimed to promote slightly altered states of consciousness, were used with the purpose of activating supra conscious psychological potentials to help undergraduates with test anxiety problems. Measures of an experimental group (n=32) on test anxiety, attitude toward imagination, imagery vividness and control scales, taken before and after the therapeutic strategy\'s implementation, were compared with measures of a control group (n=50). Statistical analysis indicated the success of the therapeutic method employed but no clear connections between this success and the imagery related variables considered.

This thesis examines Darren Aronofsky's 2014 film Noah as a pattern for metafictionalizing narratives into thinking stories as we confront the uncertainty and challenges of the Anthropocene. While Ecocriticism has sought for the development and promotion of nature writing and environmentally oriented poetry and fiction- "new stories" that will shape a stronger environmental ethic"”it has placed too much responsibility for the environmental imagination on what we read rather than on the more important question of how we read. My argument addresses the readerly responsibilities that, if met, have the power to transform old stories and old habits of mind into environmentally relevant attitudes and behaviors. The search for new stories, in other words, although important, has tended to understate the responsibility of the reader to make stories new and to read them as cosmologies that pertain to our contemporary situation. What is needed are new ways to read and engage with stories, new reading methods to metaphorize narratives themselves, making them metafictional even when they are not. Now, in an age of climate change and environmental degradation, it is time for us to think about stories in relation to our role as protagonists in the story of the earth, imagining new possibilities and actively accepting our role of writing our story anew. I hope to demonstrate that this type of aggressive reading of even popular culture (often regarded as mainstream, or "œthoughtless" stories) can mine the necessary insights to reexamine humanity's relationship with the earth and its inhabitants.

Works of fiction do things to us, and we do things because of works of fiction. When reading Hamlet, I mentally represent certain propositions about its characters and events, I want the story and its characters to go a certain way, and I emotionally respond to its goings-on. I might deem Hamlet a coward, I might wish that Hamlet stabbed Claudius when he had the chance, and I might feel sorrow at Ophelia’s senseless suicide. These fiction-directed mental states seem to resemble the propositional attitudes of belief, desire, and emotion, respectively — the everyday attitudes that represent and orient us toward the world. These mental states constitute our engagement with fiction, and the way in which they hang together is central to understanding our engagement with fiction. In that aim, this thesis hopes to provide an analysis of our belief-like attitudes about works of fiction. I argue that a folk psychological theory of fictional engagement should call upon belief, not imagination, to serve as the primary cognitive attitude with which we engage fictions.
