Conception et intégration en technologie "System in Package" d'émetteurs récepteurs ultra large bande pour communications ULB impulsionnelles dans la bande de fréquence 3.1 - 10.6 GHz

Les systèmes radio impulsionnelle Ultra large bande (IR-ULB), de part la nature de leurs signaux et de leurs architectures, montrent des caractéristiques intéressantes pour concurrencer les technologies existantes (Zigbee, Bluetooth et RFID) pour certaines applications nécessitant un faible coût et une faible consommation de puissance. Dans ce contexte cette thèse évalue les potentialités des systèmes IR-ULB pour la réalisation d’objets communicants miniatures.En utilisant une technologie "System In Package" (SiP), des objets communicants ULB prototype intégrant une ou plusieurs puces CMOS et une antenne ULB directement réalisée sur le boîtier sont présentés dans la thèse. Les transitions entre le circuit imprimé et les puces sont réalisées avec des fils d'interconnexion ("wirebonding"). Les points d'étude de la thèse se focalisent particulièrement sur la mise en boîtier d'une puce ULB et sur la conception sur silicium de la tête radio fréquence d'un système ULB. La réalisation d'une interconnexion faible cout par "wirebonding" entre un circuit intégré ULB et son support est problématique aux fréquences utilisées en ULB (3-10 GHz) en raison des éléments parasites importants limitant sa bande passante. Pour obtenir une transition ne dégradant pas les signaux ULB, plusieurs méthodologies d’interfaçage sont proposées permettant de réaliser sans augmentation notable de cout une transition large bande entre le circuit intégré et le circuit imprimé du boîtier. L'intégration en technologie CMOS standard des éléments principaux constituant la tête radio fréquence d'un système ULB impulsionnel (LNA, détecteur d'impulsions et générateurs d'impulsions) est étudiée. L'intérêt d'un co-design entre le silicium et le circuit imprimé lors de la conception de ces éléments est mis en avant. L'intégration ainsi que la miniaturisation du système final dans une technologie SIP sont également présentées. / Due to the nature of their signals and their architectures, Impulse Radio Ultra Wide Band (IR-UWB) systems show interesting features to compete with existing technologies (Zigbee, Bluetooth and RFID UHF) for low cost and low power applications. In this context, this thesis evaluates the potential of UWB systems for the realization of miniature communication devices.The thesis presents UWB communicating devices realized with a System in Package (SiP) technology. Devices incorporate one or several CMOS chips and an antenna directly printed on the board (PCB). Transitions between the PCB and the chips are made with standard wire bonds. The thesis especially focuses on packaging of UWB dice and on the design of UWB front end radio frequency.Due to important parasitic elements limiting its bandwidth, wire bonds transition is problematic for UWB applications (3-10 GHz). This thesis proposes several methodologies to interface integrated circuit and PCB to obtain a broadband transition without increasing cost production. The integration in standard CMOS technology of main components comprising the UWB radio frequency front end (LNA, pulse detector and pulse generator) is studied. The interest of a co-design between silicon and PCB to design these elements is pointed up. Integration and miniaturization of the final system in a SIP technology are also presented.

Les circuits de récupération d'horloge et de données sont nécessaires au bon fonctionnement de plusieurs systèmes de communication sans fil. Les travaux effectués dans le cadre de cette thèse concernent le développement de ces circuits avec d'une part la réalisation, en technologie HCMOS9 0,13 μm de STMICROELECTRONICS, de circuits CDR analogiques à 1 et 54 Mbit/s, et d'autre part, la mise en œuvre de fonctions CDR numériques programmables à bas débit. Un circuit CDR fonctionnant à plus bas débit (1 Mbit/s) a été conçu dans le cadre de la gestion d'énergie d'un récepteur ULB impulsionnel non cohérent. Ces deux structures ont été réalisées à l'aide de PLL analogiques du 3ème ordre. Un comparateur de phase adapté aux impulsions issues du détecteur d'énergie a été proposé dans cette étude. Les circuits ont ensuite été dimensionnés dans le but d'obtenir de très bonnes performances en termes de jitter et de consommation. En particulier, les performances mesurées (sous pointes) du circuit CDR à 1 Mbit/s permettent d'envisager une gestion d'énergie efficace (réduction de plus de 97% de la consommation du récepteur). Dans le cadre d'une chaîne de télémesure avion vers sol, deux circuits CDR numériques ont également été réalisés durant cette thèse. Une PLL numérique du second degré a été implémentée en vue de fournir des données et une horloge synchrone de celles-ci afin de piloter une chaîne SOQPSK entièrement numérique. Un circuit ELGS a également mis au point pour fonctionner au sein d'un récepteur PCM/FM. / Clock and data recovery circuits are required in many wireless communication systems. This thesis is about development of such circuits with: firstly, the realization, in HCMOS9 0.13 μm of STMICROELECTRONICS technology, of 1 and 54 Mb/s analog CDR circuits, and secondly, the implementation of programmable digital circuits at low rates. In the aim of an impulse UWB transceiver dealing with video transmission, a CDR circuit at 54 Mb/s rate has been realized to provide clock signal synchronously with narrow pulses (their duration is about a few nanoseconds) from the energy detector. Another CDR circuit has been built at 1 Mb/s rate in a non-coherent IR- UWB receiver power management context. Both circuits have been implemented as 3rd order analog PLL. In this work, a phase comparator suitable for “RZ low duty cycle” data from the energy detector has been proposed. Circuits have been sized to obtain very good performances in terms of jitter and power consumption. Particularly, measured performances of the 1 Mb/s CDR circuit allow to plan an efficient power management (a decrease of more than 97% of the receiver total power consumption). In the context of a telemetry system from aircraft to ground, two digital CDR circuits have also been implemented. A second order digital PLL has been adopted in order to provide synchronous clock and data to an SOQPSK digital transmitter. Also, a digital ELGS circuit has been proposed to work in a PCM/FM receiver. For both CDR structures, the input signal rate is programmable and varies globally from 1 to 30 Mb/s.

Recherche de matériaux isolants pour la conception d'une nouvelle génération de connecteurs électriques haute tension : influence de la pollution sur les phénomènes de décharges partielles du contournement et de claquage / Research of insulating materials intended to the conception of a new generation of high voltage electrical coonectors : influence of pollution on partial discharges and flashover and breakdown phenomena

Dans le présent travail, nous abordons une problématique essentielle liée aux accessoires des lignes électriques et plus particulièrement au connecteur à perforation d’isolant (TTDC 45501 FA), commercialisé par la société Sicame située à Arnac-Pompadour (Corrèze). Ce produit permet d’effectuer des dérivations de courant en moyenne tension gainé HTA entre 15 et 25kV. Cependant, il devient nécessaire de concevoir une nouvelle génération de connecteurs capable de fonctionner à une tension de 52 kV en raison de la constante augmentation des besoins en électricité. En réalité, le principal souci concernant ces produits réside dans l’apparition de décharges partielles dans le volume constitué par la matière isolante (polyamide 6 chargée à 50% en poids de fibres de verre). Ces décharges engendrent un vieillissement prématuré du produit sous l’action conjuguée d’une atmosphère corrosive (brouillard salin) et d’un champ électrique. Ainsi, l’objectif de la présente thèse est de faire, dans un premier temps, un choix approprié de matériaux isolants parmi des polymères thermoplastiques, thermodurcissables époxydes ou élastomères en EPDM, capables de résister à plusieurs contraintes : thermique, électrique, mécanique, chimique et climatique. La partie expérimentale concerne, tout d’abord, la mesure de la tension de contournement, de l’activité des décharges partielles se propageant à la surface des matériaux isolants et de la tension de claquage, en tension alternative (A.C.). Pour cela, des échantillons polymères qui comportent des surfaces planes ou des surfaces pourvues de protubérances ont été moulés en vue de comparer leur comportement diélectrique en présence d’atmosphères polluées de type brouillard salin; ces mesures sont nécessaires pour effectuer un choix approprié du matériau à intégrer dans le connecteur. Par la suite, l’étude et la caractérisation optique et électrique de décharges glissantes, se propageant en surface de divers matériaux polymères, en tension impulsionnelle (L.I.) pour les deux polarités (positive et négative) et pour deux types de champ électrique (normal et tangentiel) sont présentées pour le cas d’une interface solide/air. La mesure de la longueur finale des décharges glissantes et la visualisation de l’onde de courant sont les deux paramètres principaux pour différencier les caractéristiques des matériaux utilisés. L’ensemble des résultats de mesures a permis de sélectionner les résines époxydes cyclo-aliphatiques (CEP) comme candidates potentielles pour la conception d’une nouvelle génération de connecteurs. De plus, la simulation du champ électrique, à l’aide du logiciel Flux 2D/3D, sur le connecteur électrique (TTDC 45501FA) a permis d’aboutir à la proposition d’un prototype de connecteur présentant une nouvelle géométrie et pouvant fonctionner à 52kV. / In the present study, we deal with an essential problem related to electrical lines accessories and more particularly to piercing connectors (TTDC 45501FA) commercialized by a private company named Sicame and which is located in Arnac-Pompadour (Corrèze, France). This product/accessory is designed to provide power diversions on medium voltage live lines HVA operating between 15 and 25kV. However, it becomes required to design a new generation of piercing connectors able to operate on 52kV live lines because of the electrical power demands that are steadily increasing. Actually, the main concerns about these products are the occurrence of partial discharges within the insulating material volume (polyamide 6 containing 50%wt of glass fibers). Most of the time, these discharges induce an early ageing process of the accessory under the combined effects of a corrosive environment (as salt fog) and an electric field threshold. Thus, the main objective of the present Ph.D. thesis is to carry out an appropriate choice of insulating materials among several tested polymers such as thermoplastics and thermosetting epoxy resins and EPDM elastomers that are capable of withstanding several constraints: thermal and electrical and mechanical and chemical conditions. The experimental section is focusing on the measurements of flashover voltage and partial discharges activity propagating on polymeric surfaces and breakdown voltage within material bulks under A.C voltage. That is why polymeric samples with plane surfaces and textured surfaces are molded to compare their resistance to partial discharges when being subjected to polluted environments such as salt fog; these measurements are necessary to choose the suitable materials for the required application to be integrated in the new generation of connectors. Then, the optical and electrical characterization results of creeping discharges propagating on several polymeric surfaces under lightning impulse (L.I.) voltage with its both polarities (positive and negative) and for two kinds of applied electric field (normal and tangential) are presented in the case of solid/air interfaces. Final length measurements of creepage discharges are the main parameter for distinguishing material properties. The whole obtained results (under AC and LI voltages) allow us to point out the cycloaliphatic epoxy resins as potential candidates to the conception of a new generation of piercing connectors. In addition, the electric field simulation and modelling of the TTDC 45501FA connector by using the Flux 2D/3D software seems to be helpful to design a connector prototype which exhibits a new geometry and is able to reach a voltage level that equals 52kV.

INTRODUÇÃO: A dependência química engloba alterações comportamentais, cognitivas e fisiológicas. A impulsividade está presente em muitos transtornos psiquiátricos. Sobre a impulsividade na dependência química de cocaína, os estudos existentes são relativamente novos. A Estimulação Magnética Transcraniana de repetição (EMTr) é um método capaz de neuromodular o cérebro. Este estudo avaliou os efeitos da EMTr sobre a impulsividade em dependentes de cocaína. MÉTODOS: Em um estudo randomizado, duplamente encoberto, 25 pacientes diagnosticados pelo DSM-IV-TR foram tratados com EMTr de alta frequência ativa (1250 pulsos/dia) ou EMTr placebo. O tratamento consistiu em 1 mês de aplicação de EMTr seguido de 2 meses em acompanhamento ambulatorial semanal em um grupo de prevenção de recaídas. Os pacientes foram avaliados antes do início do tratamento com EMTr (T0) e após o término das aplicações (T1), através dos instrumentos: The Shorter PROMIS Questionnaire, The Schalling Impulsivity Scale e The Leeds Dependence Questionnaire. RESULTADOS: 25 pacientes foram tratados e a análise dos dados demonstraram redução nos índices de impulsividade em ambos os grupos ao longo do tempo, porém, quando comparados entre si, os valores de interação não se mostraram significativos. CONCLUSÃO: Os efeitos da EMTr não diferiram em eficácia terapêutica na redução da impulsividade em dependentes de cocaína, com o efeito ativo correspondendo com o placebo / INTRODUCTION: Chemical addiction involves behavioral, cognitive and physiological alterations. Impulsivity is present in many psychiatric disorders. Studies about impulsivity and cocaine chemical addiction are relatively new. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (EMTr) is a method capable of neuromodulation the brain. This study evaluated the effects of EMTr over impulsivity in cocaine addicts. METHODS: This is a randomized doubly covert study with 25 patients diagnosed by the DSM-IV-TR who were treated with active high frequency EMTr (1250 pulses/day) or placebo. Treatment was consisted of one month of application of EMTr followed by 2 months of clinical follow-up in a relapse prevention group. Patients were evaluated before the treatment with EMTr (T0) and after the end of the applications (T1), through the instruments: The Shorter PROMIS Questionnaire, The Schalling Impulsivity Scale and The Leeds Dependence Questionnaire. RESULTS: 25 patients were treated and data analysis showed a reduction in the levels of impulsivity in both groups throughout the time. However, group comparisons did not show statistical differences. CONCLUSION: EMTr\'s effects did not differ in terms of therapeutical efficacy in the reduction of impulsivity in cocaine addicts

Dynamics of macroeconomic variables in Fiji : a cointegrated VAR analysis

Abstract of thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Commerce and Management Dynamics of macroeconomic variables in Fiji : a cointegrated VAR analysis By Shiu Raj Singh The objective of this study is to examine how macroeconomic variables of Fiji inter-relate with aggregate demand and co-determine one another using a vector autoregression (VAR) approach. This study did not use a prior theoretical framework but instead used economic justification for selection of variables. It was found that fiscal policy, which is generally used as a stabilisation tool, did not have a positive effect on real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the short term. Effects on GDP growth were positive over the long term but not statistically significant. Furthermore, expansionary fiscal policy caused inflationary pressures. Fiji has a fixed exchange rate regime, therefore, it was expected that the focus of monetary policy would be the maintenance of foreign reserves. It was, however, found that monetary expansion in the short term resulted in positive effects on real GDP growth and resulted in inflation. The long term effects of monetary policy on real GDP growth were negative, which are explained by the fixed exchange rate regime, endogenous determination of money supply by the central bank, an unsophisticated financial market and, perhaps, an incomplete transmission of the policy. Both merchandise trade and visitor arrivals growth were found to positively contribute to short term and long term economic growth. Political instability was found not to have significant direct effects on real GDP growth but caused a significant decline in visitor arrivals which then negatively affected economic growth in the short term.

This survey focuses on the relationship between stock returns, volatility and country credit rating changes among countries in the Asia-Pacific Basin. This research further divides the 12 sample countries into two categories, developed markets and emerging ones, and finds out the differences between both groups. The empirical methods used here are intervention analysis and impulse response analysis. The empirical results are as follows: 1. The stock return and its volatility do not have statistically significant relation in both developed markets and emerging ones, which coincides with the conclusion by Baillie and Degennaro(1990). 2. The impact of changes in country credit level on stock returns will work within one month; that is to say, changes in country credit level this month will affect stock returns of the current month. 3. Country credit change has no impact on stock returns of the developed markets. 4. Changes in country credit levels of the emerging markets have apparent influence on their stock returns but no identical signs. This may result from the common barriers existed in the emerging markets for foreign investors. 5. The impulse response analysis doesn't have an apparent and agreeable result owing to the constraint of rare data.

台灣地區經常帳的實證研究-VAR模型的應用 / The emperical research of current account in Taiwan - the application of the VAR model

本文是探討管理浮動匯率時期(1978年第三季至1993年第三季),台灣地區經常帳盈餘發生的原因,同時考慮匯率因素、貨幣市場及商品與勞務市場吸納的情況。利用兩個向量自迴歸模型,分別納入:(1)匯率、利率、經常帳、消費節約及貨幣供給,(2)匯率、利率、經常帳、財政盈餘及貨幣供給,藉由因果關係檢定、預測誤差分解、及衝擊反應,分析經常帳失衡的原因。   實証結果指出:台灣地區經常帳盈餘,深受匯率、財政盈餘及消費節約的影響,這個結論與我國低估幣值與出口拓展的政策一致。且經常帳盈餘並不能夠顯著的影響貨幣供給,這個結論與央行沖銷的措施一致,其目的無非是要隔離國外部門影響國內貨幣。足見自由化的匯率政策,不但讓匯率反應出合理的水準值,同時可追求獨立的貨幣政策,配合著獎勵投資、消費及增加公共支出,增加國內吸納,藉以減少鉅幅的經常帳盈餘。

Innovative transceiver approaches for low-power near-field and far-field applications

Wireless operation, near-field or far-field, is a core functionality of any mobile or autonomous system. These systems are battery operated or most often utilize energy scavenging as a means of power generation. Limited access to power, expected long and uninterrupted operation, and constrained physical parameters (e.g. weight and size), which limit overall power harvesting capabilities, are factors that outline the importance for innovative low-power approaches and designs in advanced low-power wireless applications. Low-power approaches become especially important for the wireless transceiver, the block in charge of wireless/remote functionality of the system, as this block is usually the most power hungry component in an integrated system-on-chip (SoC). Three such advanced applications with stringent power requirements are examined including space-based exploratory remote sensing probes and their associated radiation effects, millimeter-wave phased-array radar for high-altitude tactical and geological imaging, and implantable biomedical devices (IMDs), leading to the proposal and implementation of low-power wireless solutions for these applications in SiGe BiCMOS and CMOS and platforms.

Un modello VAR-GARCH multivariato per il mercato elettrico italiano. / A VAR-MGARCH MODEL FOR THE DEREGULATED ITALIAN ELECTRICITY MARKET

E’ stato estesamente appurato che i mercati dell'elettricità mostrano mean-reversion e elevata volatilità dei prezzi. Questo lavoro utilizza un modello VAR-MGARCH al fine di cogliere queste caratteristiche presenti sul mercato dell'energia elettrica italiana (IPEX) e analizzare le interrelazioni esistenti tra le diverse regioni in cui il mercato è suddiviso. L’analisi è condotta sui prezzi giornalieri dal 1 ° gennaio 2006 al 31 dicembre 2008. I coefficienti stimati dalle equazioni condizionali indicano che i mercati regionali sono abbastanza integrati e i prezzi regionali dell'energia elettrica possono essere adeguatamente previsti impiegando i prezzi passati di ciascun mercato zonale. La volatilità e la cross-volatility sono significative per tutti i mercati, indicando la presenza di forti componenti ARCH e GARCH e la sostanziale inefficienza dei mercati. E’ inoltre evidente un’elevata persistenza della volatilità e della cross-volatility in tutti i mercati. I risultati indicano inoltre che gli shock rilevati, sia nella volatilità, sia nei vari mercati, persistono nel tempo e che in ogni mercato la persistenza è più marcata quando è causata da innovazioni stimate sulle stesso mercato rispetto a shock stimati su altre aree. Questa persistenza descrive la tendenza delle variazioni dei prezzi a raggrupparsi nel tempo. / It is commonly known that spot electricity markets show mean-reversion and high price volatility. This work employs a VAR-MGARCH model to capture these features in the Italian electricity market (IPEX) and analyze the interrelation existing among the different regions in which the market is divided. Daily spot prices from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2008 are employed. The estimated coefficients from the conditional mean equations indicate that the regional markets are quite integrated and regional electricity prices could be usefully forecasted using lagged prices from either the same market or from the other areal markets. Volatility and cross-volatility spill-overs are significant for all markets, indicating the presence of strong ARCH and GARCH effects and market inefficiency. Strong persistence of volatility and cross-volatility are also evident in all local markets. The results also indicate that volatility innovations or shocks in all markets persist over time and that in every market this persistence is more marked for own-innovations or shocks than cross-innovations or shocks. Inteligência computacional aplicada na geração de respostas impulsivas bi-auriculares e em aurilização de salas / Computational intelligence applied to binaural impulse responses generation and room auralization

Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro / Neste trabalho é apresentada uma nova abordagem para obter as respostas impulsivas biauriculares (BIRs) para um sistema de aurilização utilizando um conjunto de redes neurais artificiais (RNAs). O método proposto é capaz de reconstruir as respostas impulsivas associadas à cabeça humana (HRIRs) por meio de modificação espectral e de interpolação espacial. A fim de cobrir todo o espaço auditivo de recepção, sem aumentar a complexidade da arquitetura da rede, uma estrutura com múltiplas RNAs (conjunto) foi adotada, onde cada rede opera uma região específica do espaço (gomo). Os três principais fatores que influenciam na precisão do modelo arquitetura da rede, ângulos de abertura da área de recepção e atrasos das HRIRs são investigados e uma configuração ideal é apresentada. O erro de modelagem no domínio da frequência é investigado considerando a natureza logarítmica da audição humana. Mais ainda, são propostos novos parâmetros para avaliação do erro, definidos em analogia com alguns dos bem conhecidos parâmetros de qualidade acústica de salas. Através da metodologia proposta obteve-se um ganho computacional, em redução do tempo de processamento, de aproximadamente 62% em relação ao método tradicional de processamento de sinais utilizado para aurilização. A aplicabilidade do novo método em sistemas de aurilização é reforçada mediante uma análise comparativa dos resultados, que incluem a geração das BIRs e o cálculo dos parâmetros acústicos biauriculares (IACF e IACC), os quais mostram erros de magnitudes reduzidas. / This work presents a new approach to obtain the Binaural Impulse Responses (BIRs) for an auralization system by using a committee of artificial neural networks (ANNs). The proposed method is capable to reconstruct the desired modified Head Related Impulse Responses (HRIRs) by means of spectral modification and spatial interpolation. In order to cover the entire auditory reception space, without increasing the networks architecture complexity, a structure with multiple RNAs (group) was adopted, where each network operates in a specific reception region (bud). The three major parameters that affect the models accuracy the networks architecture, the reception regions aperture angles and the HRIRs time shifts are investigated and an optimal setup is presented. The modeling error, in the frequency domain, is investigated considering the logarithmic nature of the human hearing. Moreover, new parameters are proposed for error evaluation in the time domain, defined in analogy with some of the well known acoustical quality parameters in rooms. It was observed that the proposed methodology obtained a computational gain of approximately 62%, in terms of processing time reduction, compared to the classical signal processing method used to obtain auralizations. The applicability of the new method in auralizations systems is validated by comparative analysis, which includes the BIRs generation and calculation of the binaural acoustic parameters (IACF and IACC), showing very low magnitude errors.
