Market segmentation is growing as customers become more and more demanding for individual products and exclusive services. Companies are introducing new applications and products across many industries , that can be tailored easily to specific customers and markets. To be successful, the organisations have to offer a high level of customisation and customer-centric processes. However, traditional companies in financial, telecommunication and insurance industry struggle with the technological challenges associated with becoming customer focused enterprises. The aim of this thesis is to define the products catalogue framework, that will provide products bundling and customisation capabilities with user-friendly GUI. Therefore, the most of the work can be designed by business users without additional intensive development efforts. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the risks of information technologies in the company Metalik Ltd. which balances on the boundary of small and medium enterprises. One part of this analysis is a preparation of the scale for estimation of the impacts, threats and vulnerabilities. Finally is drafted a register of actions which responds to IT risks which were identified in the frame of the thesis. The register is in compliance with the business plan of the company and its recent market position. The contribution of this thesis is in showing how the firm, which can represent the typical small or medium enterprises, works with IT risks. The principles of some correctional actions can be also generally related to this group of enterprises. The benefit specifically for the firm Metalik Ltd. is documentation for future work with the risks connected with the information technologies.

This essay revolves around Synchronization management & Synchronization licensing, or in short sync. The development of sync as a career choice and profession has been fast and is still ongoing. It is not until later years that sync has become a proper profession, whereas before it was just part of a publisher or sales person’s regular work. In short, sync deals with the commercial use of copyright protected music. A synchronization manager negotiates fees and licensing agreements while handling the dialogue between commercial businesses, publishers and in some cases song writers. Once a deal has been made a Synchronization license is granted by the owner of the copyrighted music, allowing the licensee (the person wanting to use the material) to use the music according to the agreement. A Synchronization license is most commonly used when a company wants to use music in either commercial, television or any kind of visual media. To get a better understand of Synchronization management a series of interviews were conducted to get three different perspectives. The first interview helped establish what a synchronization manager actually does, and was held with a person who works with the profession in question. To better grasp the song writing point of view when it comes to sync an interview with a person who was writing for sync briefs was conducted. Lastly, a publisher was interviewed to help understand synchronization licensing from a publishing point of view. The result generated by the interviews in combination with already written articles about Synchronization management helped get a better understanding of the profession and how different individuals are using it in their daily life in music. The main question of this essay was to establish if sync is a reliable source of income for “up-and-coming” song writers and music producers.

The object of this study is to examine the effective functionality of an OPAC-system while a few participants interacted with the catalogue. I’ve used Carl Martin Allwood’s (1998) four designed usability factors to be able to estimate the effective functionality of the online catalogue. Theoretic basis is Human Computer Interaction together with Allwood’s four defined usability factors. They are: adjustment, ease of use, user acceptance and user competence. This study is conducted with a verbal protocol method which encourages the seven participators to “think aloud” while performing tasks. The study shows that the participants interact most effective in those functions they’re accustomed with. Which indicate that the OPAC-system have a high grade of user acceptance. The end users with more experience of using Internet search engines requested similar search capabilities and settings in the online catalogue. They tend to lack a little bit of understanding to the limitations of the OPAC which therefore indicate their lack of user competence. Some task problems occurred while the participators interacted in steps and functions they weren’t familiar with. They also spoke of the difficulties with subject searching and that they would like to know the best way to make search queries. I estimate some need of more user friendly functions and services, especially in the help section. The study shows that it is essential to educate users in ways to interact with the OPAC-system in a more effective manner.

<p>Då en katalogtjänst skall införas i en verksamhet är det viktigt först genomföra en noggrann analys av vilken katalogtjänst som passar bäst. Om en produkt som inte uppfyller verksamhetens behov väljs kan det få ekonomiska konsekvenser. Detta kan visa sig bland annat genom att problem kan uppstå och att medarbetarna inte kan göra sitt arbete på ett effektivt sätt.</p><p>Detta projekt har som mål att skapa riktlinjer för hur val av en katalogtjänst bör gå till. Riktlinjerna är tänkta att stödja valet från det att katalogtjänster identifierats som möjlig lösning till att några produkter som uppfyller verksamhetens grundläggande behov tagits fram. Som utgångspunkt för valet används det tjänstestöd som erbjuds av katalogtjänster. I både kravframställning och produktspecificering används tjänstestöd som utgångspunkt. Detta ger fördelen att produktutvärderingen, dvs. jämförelse mellan kravspecifikation och produktspecifikationer, kan ske utan på ett naturligt sätt och utan misstolkningar.</p>

Relativ neu im bibliothekarischen Geschäft ist auch die Kataloganreicherung (16.07.14:00). Der OPAC (online-public-access-catalogue) heißt jetzt, nachdem alle ihn haben, wieder schlicht „Katalog“. Aber dieser elektronisch erreichbare Katalog kann unversehens weit mehr anbieten als Titeldaten und Signaturen. Das 'Catalogue Enrichment'/die 'Kataloganreicherung' durch Inhaltsverzeichnisse, so wie sie derzeit in NRW praktiziert wird, bringt sogar mehr als lediglich weiterführende Links: Dadurch, dass mit Hilfe einer OCR-Erkennung die Inhaltsverzeichnisse indexiert werden, entstehen neue Suchwörter. Diese ergeben eine deutliche Erweiterung der Suchinhalte abgesehen davon, dass der Recherchekomfort steigt.

Die Studie beschreibt die Ergebnisse einer Umfrage unter sächsischen Archiven zum Technisierungsgrad aus dem Jahr 2008.

Onlinekataloge erlauben den Nutzern den Zugang zum Bestand einer Bibliothek; Normdaten bilden darin die Grundlage für zwei wesentliche Sucheinstiege: Die Recherche nach Personen und die inhaltliche Suche mit Schlagwörtern. Benutzeranalysen zeigen erwartungsgemäß, dass dies nach den Titelstichwörtern die am häufigsten gestellten Suchanfragen sind. Es wird aber auch deutlich, dass in beiden Fällen die Wahrscheinlichkeit eines Nulltreffer-Ergebnisses, d.h. das Scheitern der Suche, sehr hoch ist. Normdaten sollen eine effektive Recherche ermöglichen – aber wie effektiv gestaltet sich diese Recherche für den Benutzer tatsächlich? Als bibliothekarische Dienstleistung richtet sich der Onlinekatalog an den Nutzer, er sollte sich demnach an dessen Bedürfnissen und Kenntnissen orientieren. Viele Suchanfragen bei Recherchen mit Normdaten führen ins Leere, weil dem Benutzer die formalen Eingabevoraussetzungen ebenso fremd sind wie die der Erschließung zugrunde liegenden bibliothekarischen Regeln. Es zeigt sich auch, dass die Umsetzung neuer Recherchemöglichkeiten mit Normdaten alleine nicht genügt, auch die Darstellung im OPAC muss beim Vorwissen der Nutzer ansetzen. Diese erwerben ihre Recherchekompetenz vor allem bei Suchmaschinen wie Google, so dass Fachterminologie oder Unübersichtlichkeit im Onlinekatalog nur zusätzlich verwirren. Anhand verschiedener Anwendungsbeispiele soll der Vortrag zeigen, welche Probleme sich dem Benutzer bei der Recherche mit Normdaten stellen, aber auch, wie das Potential der Normdaten in Onlinekatalogen noch besser genutzt werden kann.
