Interpreting references to the subject in philosophical writings

Nickless, David, M.A. January 2008 (has links)
In this thesis I will develop and test an interpretive framework for the Subject based on the understanding that an entity can be identified as a Subject if it is the necessary referent for an attribution. This understanding provides a template for approaching different Subjects, for considering the validity of their being identified as Subjects, and for reorienting the general discourse of the Subject away from an investigation of particular entities to one concerned with the contexts which support such identifications.

_______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation´s object is the project of Rino Levi and his team, ranked third in the National Competition for the Pilot Plan of Brasília in 1957. To understand the urban proposal, a broadly bibliographic synthesis was performed in order to systematize the existing analysis on the object, and a contextualized discussion about its main features. It was then developed a three-dimensional digital model of the city designed, which provided new ways of representation from a range of perspectives drawn from this model, preferring the human scale´s points of view. As a result, it was possible to demonstrate peculiarities still less explored in the literature, for example, the interaction of Rino’s Pilot Plan with Paranoá lake, and the treatment given to urban spaces designed for convergence in the context of a polinuclear city. At last, the project´s affiliation to the precepts of the Chart of Athens was reiterated, whereas it could be emphasized the incorporation in this proposal of a competition´s contemporary urban solution, featured in international discussions in the 1950s, called City Core, whose essence was the relaxation of the strict zoning of the beginning of modern movement.

A modernidade como violência e horror: a burocratização e a desumanização da vida em É isto um homem?, de Primo Levi / Modernity as violence and horror: the bureaucratization and the dehumanization of life in Is this a man?, by Primo Levi

This work aims at studying the relationship that exists among modernity, rationalization and violence in the book Is this a man?, by Primo Levi. This author is an Italian Jewish, the central character of his book, which consists in the testimony of what he lived in Auschwitz, one of the biggest Nazi concentration camps. In the book, the author recreates, through language, an extra literary world, that of the camp, with its own architecture, its organization and ways of control and extermination. Primo Levi tells the atrocities committed, in a barbaric way, by human beings against other human beings, which makes clear that, when the fight is for survival, ethical and moral values are tested; likewise, in the case of the executioner, true faces are revealed, showing the force of barbarism and its capacity of exceeding all the human limits. Levi tells the facts feeling as if in charge of a moral duty towards the society, the duty of speaking for those who did not survive. Despite the difficulties of representation of his traumatic experience, Levi exposes the whole bureaucratically organized system that made possible that Auschwitz ended up being the horror itself; the place where the instrumentalized reason destroyed the illuminist principles of progress and made men become animals, condemned to a destructive and deadly violence, that was subsidized by the notion of progress and technical development, which were signals of the modernity purposes.

Os anacronautas do teutonismo virtual : uma etnografia do neonazismo na internet / Anachronauts of the virtual teutonicism : an ethnography of the neo-nazism in internet

Neste processo, evidencia-se a elaboração de uma forma específica de identidade: o ¿teutonismo¿ / Abstract: This research attempts to apprehend the symbolic universe of racist, revisionist and neonazi pages in the Internet. The aim of the investigation is to understand what kind of relationship is built between the digital space and the defense of the idea of an "Aryan race" attempted by my 'natives¿. This is done by means of ethnographic observation of practices and discoursive representations posted at sites, forums, communities, chats and discussion lists. I focus on those symbolics aspects that highlight best the interface between digital space and racism, by means of both empirical research and theoretical exercise. From this vantage point, some features of the identitary construction developed by racists for themselves and for others were made visible, namely, the genomic and mythic marks of their discourse, the redefinition of the frontiers between digital world and reality, and the ¿aryan¿ political struggle in the WEB. The main argument resulting from this research is that the neonazism interprets symbolically the contemporary world by articulating myths, narratives e rituals. Along this process, a specific way of identity is manifested: the ¿teutonicism¿ / Mestrado / Antropologia Social / Mestre em Antropologia Social

”Gemenskapen är evig” : Om användning av samtida skönlitteratur i religionskunskapen på gymnasiet / ”The community is eternal” : On the use of contemporary fiction in gymnasial religious education

Sandström, Isabelle January 2021 (has links)

The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint : Lars Levi Laestadius' Bible use and criticism of the Church of Sweden

Nilsson, Bengt January 2023 (has links)
Lars Levi Laestadius (1800-1861) was active as a priest in the Swedish church in the northernmost parts of Sweden. After experiencing a transformative and life-changing spiritual breakthrough, which he himself has later called his rebirth and the moment when he received a living faith, he came to gather large audiences and give rise to a revival movement, which still bears his name today. Although Laestadius was active as a priest, he sharply criticized many conditions in the contemporary church. The purpose of this essay has been to investigate whether, and if so how, this criticism as presented in his sermons and writings can be linked to his Bible use, i.e. his reading and interpretation of the Bible and the authority he gives the Bible. For my study, I have closely read a large number of his extant sermons and published writings. The study also briefly summarises the central elements of Laestadius' theology, as well as what he perceives to be the Church's main mission. The study shows how his criticism is based on his use of the Bible and also how, through a far-reaching allegorical interpretation of the Bible, he uses different texts from both the Old and the New Testaments in his argumentation.
