No. of bitstreams: 1 MPFE_NewtonArata_Cash holding.pdf: 522094 bytes, checksum: ef66f1f783cd069b20749cd0f636450c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-08-22 / This research extends previous studies of cash holdings and its determinants by studying the relationship between the degree of internationalization and the level of corporate cash holdings. Differently from domestic firms, internationalized firms have more investment opportunities and face more adversity in their businesses. We used a sample of non-financial publicly traded companies in Brazil and Mexico for the period 2006 to 2010. Panel regressions with fixed effects were used in the study. We found evidence that degree of internationalization is a determinant of cash and that cash holding increases quadratically as the degree of company internationalization increases. Brazilian dividend-paying companies hold more cash but this effect does not apply to Mexican companies. Furthermore, the behavior detected for Brazilian and Mexican companies was different from American companies studied by (Chiang and Wang, 2011). Finally, in the period before the crisis, companies held less cash on their balance sheets.

Neste sentido, nosso principal objetivo é descrever como a interpretação teológica, pautada pela alegoria factual, torna-se elemento cênico e poético na constituição das referidas peças / Abstract: The present dissertation analyzes three vicentines¿ works ¿ Auto da Sibila Cassandra (1512/13?), Breve Sumário da História de Deus (1527?) and Auto da Cananéia (1534) ¿, which present important analogies with the liturgics representation of the end of Medieval Times and assimilate a theological vision of the History characterized for the presence of the factual allegory. This is, as known, central element of a biblical interpretation¿s method, already known in the Christian Antiquity, which the Old Testament is a preview of the New, the comprehension of both making possible the apprehension of the futures happenings. In the vicentines¿ works, it is incorporated as part (element) of the composition. In this way, the main objective is to describe how theological interpretation, marked for the factual allegory, becomes poetic and scenic element in the construction of the plays / Mestrado / Literatura Portuguesa / Mestre em Teoria e História Literária

La religion et l’usage des méthodes contraceptives au Mexique / The religion and the use of contraceptive methods in Mexico

González López, Greethel 14 January 2016 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the relationship between fertility and religion. In a demographic approach, thisthesis provides an analysis on the behavior and attitudes of Catholic couples face of family planning. Itproposes to explain how they reconcile their faith with the need for birth control and how they justifytheir dependence or disobedience to the doctrine. Finally, one of our main objectives is to recognizethe procedures by which new attitudes coexist with traditional models. Moreover, given that Mexico isa country that belongs to the set of a traditional cultural context in which its main characteristicsguarantee the prevalence of unequal relations of sex and male domination, it was considered importantto include in our research a gender perspective.

Současné podoby kultury chudoby / Tepito and its transformation since 1960 to the present. The present forms of the culture of poverty

Omastová, Kristýna January 2017 (has links)
In this thesis I describe the transformation process of Tepito, the "brave neighbourhood" in Mexico City, from 1960 to the present day. In this microhistory, I intend to explore how the great socio-economic changes, that have occurred in Mexico in the last 60 years, have been reflected locally. I especially focus on the incorporation of the traditional Mexican society into the modern and globalized world; The process of corporatization of the popular sector into the politics of the single party; The transition from the stabilizing development economic model (characterized by the Import substitution industrialization) to neoliberalism; The gradual rupture of the social fabric hastened by the urban planning in the 60s and 70s, the 1985 earthquake and the proliferation of drug trafficking and armed violence; And the beginning of the digital era. I also try to explore the validity of the Culture of Poverty theory which was formulated by the anthropologist Oscar Lewis during his field research in Tepito in the late 50's of the last century and I describe which of the aspects of the theory have changed.

Mexico’s Anti-Femicide Movement : Comparing Subnational Political Opportunity Structures in Chihuahua, Yucatán and Mexico City

Olsson, Helena January 2017 (has links)
This paper explores femicide and social movements impact on politics, a phenomenon where national, international and transnational politics overlap. The Mexican anti-femicide movement belongs to the global justice movement and struggle for women’s right to life. This study highlights the differences the movement faces even within a state, on the subnational level, through a comparative and theory developing case study. The variables of mobilization structure and political opportunity are examined in the three cases of the Mexican states Chihuahua, Yucatán and the Federal District. The study indicates the movement’s alliances and its connection between the local and international level in the post-2007 context. The hypothesis which connects the anti-femicide movement as part of the political opportunity on subnational level and varying rates of femicide is explored. The study concludes that the aspects of repression, threats of violence and impunity, aspect most prominent in Chihuahua, impact the anti-femicide movement and consequently femicide rates to some extent.

Barajas-Garrido, Gerardo January 2011 (has links)
My research deals with fantasy and the fantastic as genres, as well as with their subgenres. I propose a new genology for fantasy and fantastic literature and their subgenres in which they are part of a continuum, with fantasy standing on one end and mimetic literature standing on the other, the fantastic being their middle ground. Within this continuum, the subgenres – which I call fantasy marvel-fiction and fantastic marvel-fiction, fantasy science-fiction and fantastic science-fiction, fantasy surrealism and fantastic surrealism – are distinguished among themselves according to two axes, namely: a) the inner coherence or incoherence of the world the text presents – their being subjected or not to the laws of that world –; b) the nature, and the appropriate explanation – marvelous or scientific –, of the phenomenon that breaks the natural laws of the reader’s known real world. This relationship between reality and fantasy has been essential to my investigation. More specifically, what I have named “the scientific urban gaze” of reality has been the touch-stone to establish what is fantasy and what is not and to create the consequent genology. The genology I propose must therefore be pragmatic: the reader’s view of reality must be taken into account in the process of placing a text within this continuum and the proper genre and subgenre. Once the genology is fully explained, I compare it to the work of some of the most prominent critics on the field of fantasy and the fantastic in order to see similitudes and differences between their research and mine. For the validity of my genology to be demonstrated, I apply it in the analysis of some Mexican narrative works and show how the genre and subgenre of a text – in interaction with the text’s archetypes and narrative components – can be an effective means to convey ideology or worldview. The genological approach, therefore, integrated with an archetypal and a narratological one, constitutes an efficient tool for a holistic semiotic analysis. Notwithstanding that in my thesis I apply it to literary works, it can also be applied to cinema and theatre.

La reterritorialisation du littoral mexicain, le cas de la péninsule de la Basse Californie / The re territorialization of the Mexican coast. The case of the Baja California peninsula / La reterritorialización del litoral mexicano, caso península de la Baja California

Holguín González, Óscar Francisco 03 April 2015 (has links)
After the territorial disaster Mexico suffered during the nineteenth century, the Mexican legislature imposed a series of tough restrictions on the possession and ownership of real estate both on coasts and borders. These restrictions are stated in the Article 27 of the Political Constitution of the Mexican United States. This Article stipules that no foreigner can have direct ownership of land in a strip comprising fifty kilometers from the shoreline and one hundred kilometers from the border. Historically, however, foreign ownership in restricted zones has been tolerated and even encouraged through legal mechanisms such as the Trust for Real Estate in the Restricted Zone and through Corporations. As a result of this, now, the Mexican coast, particularly in the peninsula of Baja California, is in a process of re territorialization. During this process, the land becomes property of foreigners and the coasts become Zone of Exclusion. Through an interdisciplinary study, we will try to understand the effects that this process has on the peninsular society and the evolution of the North -South migration phenomenon that occurs in Mexico.

This research attemped to discuss how the production of Mexican scholars' books, during Porfirio Díaz government (1876-1911), helped to contructed the past representation of the country.

Amorim, Francisco de Paula Rocha January 2018 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the trans-territoriality caused by competing formal and informal institutions in nine cities of Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. More specifically, this research is about the social consequences of the formation of multiple territories and multi-territorialities produced by the competition between legal formal institutions and illegal informal institutions connected to drug trafficking. The research was developed in the Brazilian cities of Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro, in the Colombian cities of Bogotá, Buenaventura, Cali and Medellín and in the Mexican cities of Mexico City, Culiacán and Xalapa. The study aims to comprehend the distinct processes of functional domination and symbolic appropriation of urban spaces. The research was mainly interested in investigating the effects of more functional territorialities on the population established by the connection between rules and sanctions based on the use of violence in order to discipline bodies. The study also examined the recursive relation among territory (and territoriality), institution e culture. Associated with Morin's Paradigm of Complexity, the investigation itself, inspired by the study of multiple cases, involved a range of techniques to acquire and to analyze data The research used semi-structured interviews, observations during field trips, photographic record, content analysis and descriptive statistics. As for the results, this thesis demonstrates that the inhabitants, especially the ones who reside on the periphery of the cities researched, live the process of trans-territoriality imposed by the rules of formal and informal institutionalities. They have their routines commanded by formal and informal codes of conduct, permanent and temporary restraints established in the geographic space. The research found the existence of a recursive relation between bypassing restraints and strategies to avoid populations. The study also noted that, in most cases, the territories produced and maintained by institutional forces connected to the State and illegal forces associated with the drug trafficking are more functional than symbolic. In other words, the space is dominated by rules and sanctions and not appropriated by identity processes or cultural identification. Finally, the research came to the conclusion that trans-territoriality is a complex emergence, in Morin’s terms, due to processes of production and maintenance of formal and informal multi-territorialities and institionalities.
