The relationship between diversity management and organisational climate

This study is within the field of Industrial and Organisational Psychology. It focuses on the relationship between diversity management and organisational climate dimensions. The literature review indicates that most of the research conducted on these two concepts, diversity management and organisational climate investigated the concept diversity, not diversity management (Cox, 1993; Hicks-Clarke & Hies, 2003). This study specifically explores diversity management in a retail organisation. The empirical component of the study includes confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis and a correlational study investigating the relationship between diversity management and organisational climate. It was found that there is a positive and strong relationship between diversity management and organisational climate. Diversity management seems to correlate highly with the following climate dimensions: policies and procedures, discrimination, gender issues, equality in conditions of employment and employment equity. The results indicate that younger employees have more positive views regarding diversity management, and middle aged employees have less positive views regarding diversity management. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This study is linked to the Program of Graduate Studies in Education (PPGE), research Line 1 - Formation, Knowledges and Professional Development. It had as its central theme the teaching and management at the beginning of the university career. The general objective of the research was to investigate the management of references that influence the beginner teachers to act as managers coordinators in graduation courses of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), as regards to the entry into the career and the assumption to management roles at the beginning of the teaching career. Specifically, we worked the following objectives: a) understand the configuration of the management dynamics leds by the beginners managers coordinators in undergraduate courses; b) recognize the confrontations of beginning teachers on assuming management positions in undergraduate courses; c) recognizing learning processes produced by beginning teachers on assuming management positions in undergraduate courses. The methodology involved a qualitative research of narrative bias (BAUER; GASKELL, ALLUM, 2004; BOLIVAR; Sunday; Fernández, 2001; CONNELLY; Clandinin, 1995; HUBERMAN, 1998; MC EWAN, 1998) and the data analysis was given from the discursive textual analysis (MORAES, 2003; MORAES; Galiazzi, 2007). The theoretical-conceptual definition was built from the concepts: complexity of teaching, formation of the trainer and teaching and teacher learning moviments, early teaching career , management models, ambience and teaching resilience. / O presente estudo está vinculado ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação (PPGE), Linha de pesquisa 1 - Formação, Saberes e Desenvolvimento Profissional. Teve como temática central a docência e a gestão no início da carreira universitária. O objetivo geral da pesquisa foi investigar as referências de gestão que influenciam os docentes iniciantes ao atuarem como coordenadores gestores nos cursos de licenciatura da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), no que se refere, à entrada na carreira e a assunção aos cargos de gestão no início da carreira docente. Especificamente, trabalhamos os seguintes objetivos: a) compreender a configuração das dinâmicas de gestão lideradas pelos coordenadores gestores iniciantes nos cursos de licenciatura; b) reconhecer os enfrentamentos dos professores iniciantes ao assumirem cargos de gestão nas licenciaturas; c) reconhecer os processos de aprendizagem produzidos pelos professores iniciantes ao assumirem cargos de gestão nas licenciaturas. O processo metodológico envolveu uma pesquisa qualitativa de viés narrativo (BAUER; GASKELL, ALLUM, 2004; BOLÍVAR; DOMINGO; FERNÁNDEZ, 2001; CONNELLY; CLANDININ, 1995; HUBERMAN, 1998; MC EWAN, 1998) e a análise dos dados deu-se a partir da análise textual discursiva (MORAES, 2003; MORAES; GALIAZZI, 2007). A definição teórico-conceitual foi construída a partir dos conceitos: complexidade da docência, a formação do formador e movimentos da docência e da aprendizagem docente, início da carreira docente, modelos de gestão, ambiência e resiliência docente.

Proposta de um modelo de gestão de resíduos industriais para o setor calçadista de Franca-SP com vistas à Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos / Proposal of a model of industrial waste management to the footwear industry in Franca-SP based on the Nacional Solid Waste Policy

Criado inicialmente com a função básica de proteção aos pés, o calçado tornou-se um objeto de desejo e um acessório essencial de moda. Entre 1950 a 2015, estima-se que a produção mundial passe de 2,5 bilhões de pares produzidos para 25 bilhões de pares por ano, crescimento bem maior do que a população mundial. O couro, principal matéria-prima para a confecção de calçados, caracteriza-se por gerar grandes quantidades de resíduos ao longo de toda a cadeia produtiva. Especificamente na indústria coureiro-calçadista, o problema concentra-se nos elevados volumes de resíduos gerados na atividade produtiva, podendo causar desperdícios e grandes volumes de resíduos a serem descartados, envolvendo, principalmente, questões financeiras e ambientais. Países como Alemanha e Estados Unidos possuem legislação específica sobre a gestão de resíduos desde os anos 1970. No Brasil, depois de mais de 20 anos de tramitação no Congresso Nacional, em 2010, foi instituída a Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos, que reúne princípios, objetivos, instrumentos, diretrizes e metas, que deverão ser adotados pelos governos nas esferas federal, estadual e municipal, bem como pelas empresas com vistas à gestão integrada e ao gerenciamento ambientalmente adequado dos resíduos sólidos. Dessa forma, o objetivo desta tese foi desenvolver um modelo de gestão de resíduos industriais para o setor calçadista de Franca-SP com vistas à Política Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos. O desenvolvimento do modelo teve como ponto de partida um estudo bibliográfico sobre o assunto e, na sequência, por intermédio de uma pesquisa aplicada, conseguiu-se, em um primeiro momento, analisar a situação atual para compreender o modelo de gestão de resíduos vigente e realizar uma pesquisa de diagnóstico dos resíduos industriais do setor. Tal pesquisa possibilitou verificar que atualmente, esses resíduos, são enviados em sua totalidade para aterros sanitários, possibilitou também sua quantificação e cálculos dos custos envolvidos para transporte e destinação. Na sequência, realizaram-se estudos sobre a viabilidade técnica e financeira para tratamento térmico desses resíduos e a busca de benchmark no setor. O estudo também proporcionou uma contribuição de caráter mais prático e/ou gerencial ao recomendar diretrizes para a elaboração de um plano de gestão integrada de resíduos industriais para o setor, e uma proposta de gestão compartilhada dos resíduos industriais entre a entidade de classe e as indústrias calçadistas, com vistas à eliminação de envio desses resíduos para aterros. Dessa forma, contribuiu também para a elaboração do Plano Municipal de Gestão Integrada de Resíduos Sólidos do município em questão. Nesse sentido, após as análises e desdobramentos das etapas anteriores, foi possível propor um modelo de gestão de resíduos industriais, bem como demonstrar sua viabilidade técnica e financeira. Tal modelo foi denominado \"Modelo de Equiparação de Custos com Eficiência Ambiental\". / Initially created with the basic function of feet protection, the footwear became an object of desire and an essential fashion accessory. Between 1950 and 2015, it is estimated that the worldwide production expanded from 2,5 billions to 25 billions of pairs a year, an increase much higher than the worldwide population. The leather, the main feedstock for the footwear manufacture, is characterized by generating large amounts of waste throughout the production chain. Especially in the leather-footwear industry, the major problem is concentrated in the big volumes of waste generated in the productive activity, which can lead to wastage and big volumes of waste to be discarded, involving several financial and environmental issues. Countries such as Germany and United States of America have specific legislation concerning the waste management since 1970. In Brazil, after more than 20 years being analyzed by the National Congress, in 2010, the National Solid Waste Policy was established, gathering principles, instruments, guidelines and goals, which must be adopted by the federal, state and municipal levels of government, as well as by the companies, following the integrated and adequate environmental management of solid waste. Therefore, the goal of this thesis was to develop a model of industrial waste management to the footwear industry in Franca-SP, according to the National Solid Waste Policy. The starting point of the development of this model was a bibliographical study about the subject, followed by an applied research. In a first moment, it was possible to analyze the current situation to comprehend the current model of waste management and to perform a diagnostic research of the sector. This research enabled us to verify that currently, these wastes are entirely sent to landfills, and also allowed quantification and calculation of the costs involved for transport and disposal. Afterwards, studies were performed to investigate the technical and financial feasibility of the thermal treatment of this waste and to search the benchmarking of the sector. The study also provided a more practical contribution as it recommended a guideline to elaborate a plan of integrated management of industrial waste to the footwear sector and as it proposed a model to be shared between the industries and trade unions, with the aim of eliminating the landfills as a destination of this waste. Therefore, this thesis also contributed to elaborate the Municipal Plan of Integrated Management of Solid Waste in the aforementioned city. Accordingly, after the analysis and consequences of previous steps, it was possible to propose a model of industrial waste management, as well as to demonstrate its technical and financial feasibility. In order to offer products successfully, companies need to select projects of development of new products (DNP) from a portfolio. The aim of this study is how to understand the portfolio management influences the development of new products in the Brazilian telecommunications operators, identifying the problems and DNP portfolio management models used, thus helping to raise the good practices in this sector. To achieve this goal, we designed a qualitative survey through multiple case study in fixed and mobile telephony Brazilian companies. Armed with the information collected during interviews in selected companies in the telecommunications sector, it was possible to conduct a detailed analysis of the cases used for the explanation of the results. The results measured by performance indicators found: influence of portfolio management models in the development of new products; identification, selection and prioritization of projects to optimize resources and launching in short periods of time product designs enabling to remain competitive in the market. Thus demonstrating the existence of relevant practice supported by current theory. / O crescente dinamismo e as mudanças nos negócios no setor das telecomunicações impulsionam as empresas a aprimorarem os produtos lançados no mercado para atender a consumidores cada vez mais exigentes. A fim de oferecer produtos com sucesso, as empresas necessitam selecionar projetos de desenvolvimentos de novos produtos (DNP) a partir de um portfólio. O objetivo principal deste estudo é entender como o gerenciamento de portfólio influencia no desenvolvimento de novos produtos em operadoras de telecomunicações de brasileiras, identificando os problemas e os modelos de gerenciamento de portfólio de DNP utilizados, contribuindo assim para elevar as boas práticas desse setor. Para atingir esse objetivo foi elaborado um levantamento qualitativo por meio de estudo de casos múltiplos em empresas de telefonia fixa e móvel brasileiras. De posse das informações coletadas durante as entrevistas em empresas selecionadas no setor de telecomunicações, foi possível conduzir uma análise detalhada dos casos utilizados para a explanação dos resultados. Os resultados medidos por meio de indicadores de desempenho verificaram: influência dos modelos de gerenciamento de portfólio no desenvolvimento de novos produtos; identificação, seleção e priorização de projetos para otimização de recursos e lançamento de projetos de produtos em curtos períodos de tempo possibilitando manter-se competitivo no mercado. Demonstrando assim, a existência da prática relevante suportada pela teoria vigente.

The purpose of this diploma is to describe the IT server infrastructure and map out ways in which it may be find. In addition, aims to clarify the concept of management of infrastructure and describe the processes and activities required to manage server infrastructure. Subsequently, examine options and software features to support the management and benefits of their use. On the basis of these findings are developed and described models of effective managements for the particular states of server infrastructure. In detail are also explained the concepts, which can be achieved by changes in infrastructure. Models of effective management is established with regard to the need and level of implementation of various management activities, in different stages of maturity infrastructure. Some of the requirements arising from the level and condition of infrastructure must be support by the appropriate software. Models, therefore, also contain requirements for software at various levels of infrastructure maturity. Described and discussed are also other influences, which are the size of infrastructure, skills of managers and environmental influences. Part of this work is also a practical demonstration of software for managing server infrastructure, and a description of its properties.

The goal of this Thesis is to describe personnel management in civil society organizations, human resource management models, and to identify which of these models can be found in civil society organizations. The chosen strategy of research is quantitative research and the data was collected by a questionnaire survey among employees in selected organizations. My research has indicated that in civil society organizations all of six human resource management models can be found, although some were represented only in small number. During the research, the links between the activities of civil society organizations, the size of the organizations and the human resource management models implemented in them were also found. .

Desarrollo de un modelo de economía circular para la gestión de residuos sólidos. Aplicación en municipios de economía deprimida en Colombia

Tesis por compendio / [ES] El modelo M-GRCT, principal producto desarrollado en esta investigación, tiene por objeto promover mejores prácticas ambientales de gestión de residuos sólidos aprovechables en contextos municipales desfavorecidos (municipalidades de economía deprimida). Se trata de un importante instrumento técnico que brinda soporte a la gestión de residuos municipales con un enfoque de promoción de la economía circular. M-GRCT esta soportado en una herramienta ofimática dinámica que se ha programado para calcular variables de dos grandes módulos en escenarios predefinidos de simulación, con el objetivo de evaluar su eficiencia comparando el modelo tradicional de gestión de residuos reciclables (lineal) y el promocionado (circular). Los dos módulos principales del modelo corresponden a un módulo de evaluación ambiental y otro de evaluación financiera. En el módulo ambiental se calculan entre otras variables, los beneficios por reducción de huella de carbono que se logran al minimizar volúmenes de residuos aprovechables transportados y dispuestos en vertederos, o el censo de recuperadores/recicladores de oficio para promover su importante labor en la cadena de gestión de residuos, diseño de rutas selectivas y promoción de empleo. En el módulo financiero, se calculan las variables económicas a partir de la cuantificación de residuos aprovechables producidos en las municipalidades de interés, considerándolos como unidad de negocio asociada a la correcta separación que deben realizar todos los sectores de generación tipificados. Se realizan así, estimaciones de ingresos, costes e inversiones para la implementación de plantas de aprovechamiento de residuos, a partir de flujos de caja con un horizonte de evaluación predefinido y consideraciones de financiación. Como ejemplos de aplicación, M-GRCT se ha utilizado para simular la gestión de residuos aprovechables en un conjunto de municipios de economía deprimida en Colombia. Las características socioeconómicas de estos territorios, los informes oficiales asociados a la gestión de sus residuos y otros criterios base, permitieron la selección de estos. Els resultats aconseguits exposen interessants contrastos i xifres associades als potencials beneficis ambientals i econòmics que es poden aconseguir amb la implementació real del model. / [EN] The M-GRCT model, main product developed in this research, aims to promote better environmental practices for the management of usable solid waste in disadvantaged municipal contexts (municipalities with depressed economies). It is an important technical instrument that provides support for municipal waste management with a focus on promoting the circular economy. M-GRCT is supported by a dynamic office automation tool that has been programmed to calculate variables of two large modules in predefined simulation scenarios, with the aim of evaluating its efficiency by comparing the traditional recyclable waste management model (linear) and the promoted-do (circular). The two main modules of the model correspond to an environmental assessment module and a financial assessment module. The environmental module calculates, among other variables, the benefits of reducing the carbon footprint achieved by minimizing volumes of usable waste transported and disposed of in landfills, or the census of collectors/recyclers by trade to promote its important work in the waste management chain, design of selective routes and employment promotion. In the financial module, the economic variables are calculated based on the quantification of usable waste produced in the municipalities of interest, considering them as a business unit associated with the correct separation that all typified generation sectors must carry out. Thus, estimates of income, costs and investments are made for the implementation of waste utilization plants, based on cash flows with a predefined evaluation horizon and financing considerations. As application examples, M-GRCT has been used to simulate the management of usable waste in a group of municipalities with depressed economies in Colombia. The socioeconomic characteristics of these territories, the official reports associated with their waste management and other basic criteria, allowed their selection. MAINTAINING MAINTENANCE : The Importance of Evaluation and Upkeep in Maintenance Management Models

This thesis explores the consequences of neglect and lack of proper support and implementation in maintenance management models, specifically an old implementation of the Pm3 model. The area of study is not widely explored, with studies and evaluation of the specific model we have looked at being almost non-existent. We have conducted a qualitative case study at an IT department/company at a Swedish university and the data has been collected through interviews with different IT department leaders, as well as one interview with a representative with the company that owns and distributes the Pm3 model. The current software development methodology at the IT company studied in this thesis are agile methods but is locked down to a micro level, while the Pm3 model handles the macro level. The consequences of this are then compared against research within fields such as IT governance and IT/business alignment to find discrepancies from which the phenomena’s can be explained. With this thesis we want to explore the consequences of not maintaining maintenance management models in organizations, especially the Pm3 model as this is widely in Swedish institutions such as universities and government authorities. This thesis provides a word of caution and argue for the importance of maintenance in maintenance management models for such organizations.

Ferramenta para configuração de modelos híbridos de gerenciamento de projetos / A tool for configuring hybrid project management models

As organizações desenvolveram recentemente novas práticas de gerenciamento de projetos, ditas ágeis e que convivem com as práticas anteriores, ditas direcionadas ao plano (Plan-driven). Ao invés de optar entre uma ou outra, vem ganhando força a ideia de combiná-las. Entretanto, a singularidade dos projetos torna difícil identificar a combinação de práticas mais apropriadas a cada caso. A presente pesquisa propõe uma ferramenta de configuração que relaciona as características e contexto de um projeto com práticas gerenciais, fundamentada em uma matriz morfológica e cujo propósito é apoiar a escolha de práticas e configuração de um modelo de gestão específico para o projeto. O estudo restringiu-se ao planejamento e controle do escopo e tempo em gerenciamento de projetos. A pesquisa iniciou com uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática para identificar ferramentas similares e modelos híbridos disponíveis na área de gerenciamento de projetos. Em seguida, compreendeu uma fase de proposição teórica da ferramenta e seu teste por meio de um estudo de caso em uma empresa de desenvolvimento de softwares, envolvendo desenvolvedores e gestores de projetos com experiência em gerenciamento ágil. A aplicação da ferramenta resultou em propostas diferentes para situações de projetos distintas. Uma análise das justificativas dos profissionais para as suas escolhas, mostrou que as experiências dos profissionais da organização, bem como suas preferências pessoais, influenciam as escolhas e não apenas o contexto do projeto. Há, portanto, indícios de que é viável optar por uma personalização para cada projeto, mas é importante investigar a experiência prévia e preferências dos profissionais de forma a aprimorar a ferramenta. A ferramenta proposta pode servir como referência para as empresas que desejam adequar modelos de gestão para seus diferentes tipos de projetos, combinando as práticas das diferentes abordagens de gerenciamento. O estudo também agrega ao desenvolvimento do tema de gestão hibrida na área de gerenciamento de projetos, trazendo uma inovação em relação as propostas encontradas na literatura. / Organizations have recently developed new project management practices, called agile and coexisting with previous practices, called Plan-driven. Instead of choosing between one and the other, the idea of combining them is gaining strength. However, the uniqueness of the projects makes it difficult to identify the most appropriate combination of practices to each case. The present research proposes a configuration tool that relates the characteristics and context of a project with management practices, based on a morphological matrix, and whose purpose is to support the choice of practices and configuration of a specific management model for the project. The study was limited to the planning and control of the scope and time in project management. The research began with a systematic literature review to identify similar tools and hybrid models available in the project management area. Then, it comprised a theoretical proposition phase of the tool and its test through the case study method in a software development company, involving developers and project managers with experience in agile management. The application of the tool resulted in different proposals for different project situations. An analysis of the professionals\' justifications for their choices showed that the experiences of the organization\'s professionals, as well as their personal preferences, influence the choices and not just the context of the project. There are, therefore, indications that it is feasible to choose a customization for each project, but it is important to investigate the previous experience and preferences of the professionals in order to improve the tool. The proposed tool can serve as a reference for companies that want to adapt management models to their different types of projects, combining the practices of the different management approaches. The study also adds to the development of hybrid management topic in the project management area, bringing an innovation in relation to the proposals found in the literature.

Konstruktiv hantering av konflikter kan bidra till lärandesituationer. Som en del i att synliggöra det vardagliga arbetet lyfter studien pedagogers erfarenheter och upplevelser kring konflikthanteringsarbetet i förskolan. I en strävan att utveckla både värdegrundsarbete och verksamhet, har det efterfrågats och skett ett sökande efter kunskap och verksamma strategier för att hantera vardagliga konflikter mellan barnen. Konflikthantering utgör dock ett mångfacetterat fält, hanteras och uppfattas på olika sätt, både i arbetslag och verksamhet. Det praktiska arbetet kan därmed upplevas svårt av pedagogerna att orientera sig i och ett helhetsarbete genomsyrar därmed inte alltid verksamheten. Tankestilar är starkt sammankopplade med förhållningssätt vilket bidrar till att styra blicken mot hur arbetet med konflikter bör hanteras. Med pedagogernas blick riktad mot det ”det goda arbetet” kan lätt normer och värden osynliggöras inom verksamheten och påverka vad som blir möjligt för barnen att vara en del av. Studien belyser förskolors olika strategier att hantera konflikter och därmed vilka områden som fokuseras. Utifrån enkäter har pedagogernas svar utgjort en grund för att problematisera vilken roll konflikthantering och användandet av konflikthanteringsmodeller spelar i det relationella vardagliga arbetet -i strävan mot ett demokratiskt klimat och social hållbar utveckling. Resultatet visar att bland annat kunskap, tid och avsaknad av samsyn utgör faktorer som hindrar ett gemensamt arbete med konflikthantering i förskolan. Genom samtal, reflektion, granskning och utvärdering finns dock möjlighet att lyfta olika perspektiv och tankar kring använda strategier och hur de kan anpassas till verksamhetens ständigt reviderade behov. Där motsättningar ges utrymme får tankestilar möjlighet att mötas och utvecklas. Studien belyser därmed vikten av pedagogernas behov av utrymme för att löpande kunna granska och problematisera både förhållningssätt samt val av konflikthanteringsstrategier.
