O receptor produtor e o produtor receptor: o uso de novas ferramentas de comunicação no telejornalismo latino-americano. Uma análise Brasil e México / The producer receptor and the receiver producer: the use of new communication tools in Latin American TV journalism. An analysis of Brazil and Mexico

Cavalcante, Juliane 04 May 2011 (has links)
The following research proposes a discussion on how the use of new communication tools can influence TV journalism and on the way it is produced, as well as on how the producers have been dealing and seeing these changes. Such tools allowed the former known receptors here understood as those individuals who watch TV newscasts and didnt have any relation with its ways of production to also become content producers. We discussed a new communication model, which makes former theories dealing with this phenomenon to take a step further and construct new models to explain this process. This new phenomenon also demands that the TV newscasts journalist producers deal with a new reality and we intended in this study to comprehend if they are prepared for this challenge.

Profile of users of the Library in 2012: is necessary mediation?

Aragão, Marinalva de Souza 01 December 2015 (has links)
Não foram observadas diferenças entre os grupos / Introduction: Human beings in their social condition necessarily need the intervention of another being in his duties. In healthcare, professional, experiences and situations before the accumulation of information retrieved on the Internet, you need a broker that makes it possible to transform this information into knowledge. Over the past 20 years, we have seen a gradual and uncontrolled increase in the amount of bibliographic documents in all areas of knowledge, but especially in biomedical. AIMS: Considering that the internet and the information technology are widely available nowadays, some studies suggest that libraries and librarians may become obsolete in the academic scenery. The purpose of the present study was to access the profile of library users in our institution, as well as to evaluate the need for mediation by the librarians in a Medical School. METHODS: 570 individuals that visited our library from December 2012 to April 2013 were invited to respond to a brief questionnaire addressing their habits when pursuing scientific information. The questionnaire was sent and responded by email. 419 participants were post graduate students and the others were physicians from our institution. The population was divided in two groups. Group 1 (n= 190): submitted to library training in searching information, group 2 (n= 52): accessed information by themselves without mediation. We analyzed the differences in behavior between those two groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The majority of individuals that used our library were, females, with a mean age of 39 years and most of them physicians or medical students. The great majority were frequent users and had personal experience in the library before. No differences in behavior were observed between groups in terms of frequency, data base, or use of key words. The present work has inumerous limitations, but may useful inhelping librarians improve their technique facing the new era of information

The role of psychological and cognitive factors in the psychological and physical recovery from acute stroke : a longitudinal study

Dhiman, Parminder January 2015 (has links)
Background: Stroke is the second leading cause of disability and mortality in the U.K., therefore research investigating stroke has been highlighted by the National Stroke Strategy to develop studies which are longitudinal and focus on outcome. A comprehensive systematic review (Study One) was undertaken to investigate the role of psychological factors on stroke recovery. This informed the development of the research study (Study Two). The aim of this study was to investigate the role of psychological and cognitive factors on psychological and physical recovery from acute stroke, in a longitudinal study as directed by the National Stroke Strategy. The current study additionally incorporates cognitive neuropsychological elements along with measures of mood, personality and coping. This is the first study to the authors’ knowledge which has investigated repressive coping and Type D personality with stroke. Method: Longitudinal data collection was conducted in two NHS hospitals, with a clinical sample at Time 1 (0-6 weeks post stroke), followed up at Time 2 (3 months post stroke) and Time 3 (6 months post stroke), in the participants’ homes or in nursing homes. Measures used to test independent variables were: Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Short Depression Scale (CES-D 10), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MPSS), Standard Assessment of Negative Affectivity, Social Inhibition, and Type D Personality (DS 14, Type D personality), Marlowe-Crowne Form B & 6 Item STAI (for repressive coping), 3 item Sense of Coherence (SoC) scale, line bi-section & Bells cancellation task (visual neglect), forward digit span (verbal short term memory), Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test (visual short term memory) and the colour word Stroop test (executive function), along with demographic data, stroke markers and health behaviours. Dependent variables were: Quality of life (measured by the SF-36) and physical recovery (modified Rankin Scale). Results: The main analysis used hierarchical multiple regression analyses and mediation analysis to test a series of hypotheses. Physical recovery outcome was predicted by stroke severity, age, stress, repressive coping, social support and visual neglect at different time points. Depression and visual memory were reported as mediators at Time 2. Quality of life outcome was predicted by stroke severity, age, stress, social support, depression and visual neglect at different time points. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that psychological factors do have an impact on both physical and psychological outcome from stroke. Stress, repressive coping and visual neglect were the most consistent predictors of outcome. Depression and social support played a smaller role, whereas Type D personality was nonsignificant across analyses.

A structural equation modeling approach for the analysis of mediated moderation and moderated mediation. / CUHK electronic theses & dissertations collection

January 2012 (has links)
Moderation and mediation analyses are widespread in psychological research. Moderation occurs when the direction and/or strength of the relation between an independent variable and a dependent variable depends on the level of a moderating variable. Mediation, on the other hand, occurs when the effect of an independent variable on a dependent variable is transmitted through a mediating variable (Baron & Kenny, 1986). Psychologists often move beyond these two processes and ask more complex questions such as how a moderating effect takes place or when a mediating process varies in different contexts. The former question has been referred as mediated moderation while the latter one has been referred as moderated mediation. Despite the fact that there are many discussions about the analysis of mediated moderation and moderated mediation in the literature, the confusion over the interpretation of these two processes persists. In addition, the SEM method, which is known to be more flexible than traditional egression method for the analysis of mediated moderation and moderated mediation is rarely discussed in the literature. In response to these issues, the main objective of the present study was to examine the methods for the analysis of mediated moderation and moderated mediation in the SEM framework. The first part of this study resolved the confusion over the current interpretation of the mediated moderation and moderated mediation by demonstrating these two processes using five typical conceptual models of mediatedmoderation and moderated mediation. In the second part, a new unified method was proposed to provide some general rules for translating the conceptual models of mediated moderation and moderated mediation into the SEM working models. The empirical performance of SEM analysis against regression analysis was assessed by a simulation study. Results showed the two methods performed similarly across different model conditions. In the last part, the unconstrained indicant product approach (Marsh, et al., 2004) for latent moderation analysis was introduced and combined with the unified approach for the analysis of latent variable mediated moderation and moderated mediation models. Simulation findings suggested that this method performed satisfactorily for testing mediated moderating and moderated mediating effects in most simulation conditions. However, chi-square statistics for the evaluation of model fit should be used with cautious as simulation results indicated that they were not accurate in most cases. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / Kwan, Lok Yin. / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2012. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 104-114). / Electronic reproduction. Tobacco use and dental caries: tobacco use status, product types, and mediation by saliva flow rate

Abuljadayel, Layla Waleed 25 October 2017 (has links)
OBJECTIVES: Despite declining tobacco consumption in the U.S., it remains a public health concern. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of tobacco consumption, different tobacco products and smoking duration on dental caries risk among different populations. METHODS: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data were used in an epidemiological cross-sectional study of a representative sample of U.S. civilian non-institutionalized population to investigate the influence of tobacco use and different tobacco products on caries prevalence among adolescents and adults. The outcomes were DMFT and DFT indices. Data from the Dental Longitudinal Study (DLS), a closed-panel prospective cohort study of oral health and aging, was used in longitudinal design to determine if changes in tobacco use status change the risk of developing new caries in adult men. Caries increment was used as an outcome. In addition, a cross-sectional study, using DLS, evaluated the association between smoking duration and caries prevalence, and to determine if it is mediated by unstimulated saliva flow rate. DMFS was used as an outcome. Descriptive and bivariate analyses were conducted on dental caries outcomes by tobacco use status and product consumption. Multiple regression, GEE, and mediation analyses were conducted controlling for confounders. RESULTS: Active tobacco use was significantly associated with dental caries, with the highest caries prevalence compared to passive or non-use among adolescents and adults (P-value <.0001). Among adolescents, passive tobacco users had higher caries prevalence than non-tobacco users. In the DLS, continuous use, quitting and starting/ restarting tobacco use between examinations were all associated with higher caries increments (p-value <0.01). Smoking duration was significantly associated with caries prevalence as long smoking duration (31- 70 years) had on average 14 more DMFS than nonsmokers (p-value= 0.0002) and USFR may partially mediate this relation by about 8.70%. CONCLUSION: Dental caries was significantly associated with active tobacco use among adolescents and adults. Caries prevalence is also high among adolescents passively exposed to tobacco. In adult men, continuous tobacco use was associated with higher caries increments. Long-term smoking was associated with high caries prevalence and this relation could be partially mediated by unstimulated saliva flow rate. / 2019-09-26T00:00:00Z

Processos de ensino e aprendizagem da biologia mediados por Webquests / The processes of teaching and learning biology mediated by webquests

No. of bitstreams: 1 Bettina Heerdt.pdf: 2736768 bytes, checksum: 5cfe8d95ec4f233f1799353c864baac3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-02-26 / Biology teaching must prioritize the learning tending to research, and in this field we can count with technology, such as the internet and the computer which contribute to this process. The WebQuest can be considered a methodology to organize the teaching process using all the internet resources, which help students in the construction of knowledge in a mediated learning environment. What we look for answering in this research is what the contributions from the WebQuest to learning Biology are. For answering this question the WebQuests were made, from names “The fascinating world of cells” and “Web-classification”, and proposed to the first and second years of high-school in the process of teaching and learning Biology. The goal is to evaluate the process of pedagogical mediation by WebQuests. The methodological approach of this investigation fits into the perspective of the qualitative research, an ethnographic study. While analyzing the obtained data, the analysis of contents was used. The propose about the hypertext organization considering it as a space for building knowledge by Lévy (2006), supported and helped us reaching the objectives aimed. We also considered the historical-cultural learning theory from Vygotsky, in which the cognitive development results from the interaction between man and his social-cultural environment, the mediation is one of the fundamental concepts in this theory. Since it is the learning that promotes the intellectual development and it occurs from an intervention process of an intermediate element between the subject and the object of knowledge, this relation stops being straight and direct and passes to a mediated one. In the present investigation we focused in the process of pedagogical mediation, which has specific characteristics of systematization and intentionality. Once that the mediation helps in the student’s intellectual development it must advance to the development processes, acting in the Proximal Development Zone (ZDP), which corresponds to the intellectual condition of the subject in the moment of learning. The ZDP refers to what the subject does not do on his own but to what he can do with the help of a grown up or an efficient companion. According to Vygotsky, the good teaching acts in the proximal development zone and qualitatively modifies its concepts. In this research the WebQuest was used as a mediator between the subject and the object of knowledge, and it showed to be an efficient tool in this process, since the scientific concepts were remade by the students and, mostly, it improved significantly their comprehension and meanings related to the cells contents and the classification of live beings.

Thinking about the ways of interpretation and representation of indian nations, this research intends to investigate some travel itineraries published in Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute Magazine, known as Southern Journeys. This collection of experiences and perceptions bequeathed data about the native group's localization, daily dynamics and descriptions referring to the physiognomy and personality. Therefore, it's remarkable in these narratives, the fact that they reveal the strategies used by their interlocutors to create social bonds and, so to speak, succeed in their personal attempts linked to the indigenous society. Thereby, John Henry Elliot, Joaquim Francisco Lopes e José Joaquim Machado de Oliveira, stem from their relationship with the Baron of Antonina, enter the southern backwoods in order to map, describe and catalog data regarding terrestrial and fluvial routes that connected Curitiba to the Lower Paraguay and, in the process, observe the shapes, the colors, the peoples that color those landscapes in their paths. Dialoguing indigenous interests and strategies, the representations outlined by these agents reveal that the approach with the native groups was a result of practices related to persuasion and mildness, witch, used traditional elements to mediate the boundary situations and intercultural contact. Stem from these suppositions, the instruments of cultural mediation enable not only the gathering and exchanges between different universes, as well as a resignification of the role given to the indigenous nations that, as a result of the social and political context in the 1800's was thought in multiple ways, oscillating its figurations in the national scenario. Hence, in this kaleidoscope, the main objective is to analyze the references made about the indian nations and, more than that, demonstrate the mechanisms of cultural mediation adopted to develop and support alliances. Moreover, through these descriptions, it's possible to reveal the southern backwoods as a space of potential dialogues and not only permeating tensions, dangers and conflicts, as it was commonly reported.

Relational transformation through dialogue : conflict mediation in a secondary school in the UK

Tsuruhara, Toshiyasu January 2018 (has links)
This paper examines dialogue between disputing students and the teacher/facilitator in conflict mediation meetings, and discusses what kind of teacher/facilitator’s actions help disputing students find a constructive solution, or even relational transformation. Key theories that inform my research are taken from Martin Buber and Carl Rogers. Buber argues that a human needs to set him/herself at a distance to see the other as an independent existence, and that humans enter relationship through self-becoming, and confirmation of the other’s existence. This is very difficult to achieve in a conflict situation, but Rogers’ core conditions of Person Centred Therapy: Unconditional positive regard; Empathy; Genuineness, fill this gap. The conflict mediator can help this process. Data for the study is taken from twenty video recordings in a secondary school in England, where diversified students, including those who were born abroad, learn together. I examine the outcomes of twenty video-recorded meetings, grouped into three categories: Relational Transformation; Resolution Only; Conflict not transformed. I describe how I have selected three meetings each (nine in total) for thematic coding and conversation analysis. Elicitive and empathetic facilitation appeared most frequently in Relational-Transformation cases, whereas judgmental and directive facilitation were observed most frequently in Conflict-not-transformed cases. As for student’s actions, openness and expansiveness appeared most frequently in Relational-Transformation cases, and attacking and defiance appeared most frequently in Conflict-not-transformed cases. Resolution-Only cases lie between these two categories. These findings suggest that conflict mediation favours elicitive and empathetic facilitation, and leads to the transformation of students’ relationships. When the facilitator/teacher shows judgment and directiveness, students respond with attacking and defiance, which impairs transformative process. It was also revealed that students were only able to acknowledge the other student’s feelings and experiences after their own feeling had been acknowledged.
