Even in their dresses the females seem to bid us defiance : Boston women and performance 1762-1823Kokai, Jennifer Anne 17 February 2012 (has links)
This dissertation constructs a cultural history of women's performances in Boston from 1762-1823, using materialist feminism and ethnohistory. I look at how "woman" was historically understood at that time, and how women used those discourses to their advantage when constructing performances that allowed them to intervene in political culture. I examine a broad range of performance activities from white, black, and Native American women of all classes. Chapter two discusses three of Boston's elite female intellectuals: Mercy Otis Warren, Judith Sargent Murray, and Sarah Wentworth Apthorp Morton. Though each woman's writings have been examined individually, I examine them as a community. With the connections and public recognition they built, they helped found the Federal Street Theatre where they could have a ventrioloquized embodied performance for their ideas on women's rights, abolition, and political parties. Chapter three looks at the construction of three solo performances: Phillis Wheatley performing her poetry in 1772; the 1802 theatre tour of Deborah Sampson Gannett, who fought as a man in the revolution; and the monologues and wax effigy creations of Patience Lovell Wright circa 1772. These women depended on their performances for sustenance, and in Wheatley's case, to secure her freedom from bondage. I look at the way these women created a mythology about themselves and crafted a marketable image, both on and off the stage. In particular, I examine the ways each grappled with a charged discourse surrounding their bodies. In chapter four I look at fashion as performance. I explore homespun dresses as political propaganda, Native American and black women's use of clothing to express cultural pride that white Anglo society had attempted to erase, and the way that women used mourning costumes to perform and create nationalism at the mock funerals held for Washington after he died in 1799. In my conclusion I contrast the 2008 miniseries John Adams with a solo performance of Phillis Wheatley. I briefly trace the trajectory of the history of women during this time. I argue that focusing on performance identifies and legitimizes other sources of evidence and locates examples of women's agency in shaping popular culture. / text

Na počátku byl vztah - křesťanské paradigma západní kultury formující obraz člověka v procesu trestního soudnictví / In the beginning, there was a relationship - the Western culture´s Christian paradigm forming the image of man within the process of criminal justiceTÝMOVÁ, Kateřina January 2014 (has links)
The present thesis paper deals - on theoretical level - with the importance and the gradual evolution of dialogicality of man within the context of criminal justice. In Western European cultural environment the image of man as dialogical being has been inspired by the Judeo-Christian tradition, approaching "the man in relationship" as an unlimited and transcendental form of being. In practical terms, a relationship has been perceived as the fundamental precondition in the process of restoration of a man and as an opportunity to re-approach the original absolute form of humanity, which is in harmony with God´s intention. The culturally accepted dialogical image of man has been reflected in shaping the specific form of systems and institutions created by man, including also the system of criminal law and justice, the main objective of which is enforcing justice. In the spirit of that cultural tradition, emphasis is currently laid on protection of and respect for dignity and individual rights and freedoms of man, and, thus, personal participation of the criminal conflict parties in the process of justice is required. Hence, in the persons of the offender and the victim, justice is rather becoming "the justice of dialogue and negotiation" within restorative justice, and it is so within the limits of law so as the participants´ individual needs and interests can be taken care of and obligations resulting from the conflict can be secured, to the maximum possible extent.

Der Gott Jonas und die Völker: Narratologische und intertextuelle Studien zur Hinwendung von Nichtisraeliten zum wahren Gott in Jona 1,4-16 undRiebesehl, Klaus 01 1900 (has links)
The goal of this study is to evaluate, in which manner the Non-Israelites turn to Yahweh.
It works with a combination of narrative analysis and intertextuality.
The book of Jonah contains two symmetrical parts (1-2 and 3-4), each part containing
three scenes, each scene relating to a scene in the other part: 1.1-3 // 3.1-3a; 1.4-16 //
3.3b-10; 2.1-11 // 4.1-11.
The structure of 1.4-16, including the inner development of the mariners, shows that a
conversion of the Seamen to Yahweh is intended. In the same manner the structure of
3.3b-10 and the positive characterization of the Ninevites show that a conversion to the
one true God is intended. These results are each confirmed by an intertextual analysis of
1.14 and 16 and of the faith, the repentance and the God who relents.
Result: The book of Jonah teaches that Non-Israelites can have a relationship with
Yahweh. This is possible through an Israelite, becoming reality by conversion of the

Le discours des vices et des vertus aux époques carolingiennes et ottonienne. De l'écrit à l'image (IXe - XIe siècle) / The discourse of vices and virtues in the Carolingian and Ottonian periods. From writing to image (9th-11th century)Rodrigues, Perrine 17 October 2018 (has links)
The discourse of vices and virtues is a study which deals with the definition of the notions of good and evil, law and prohibition in the context of Carolingian renouatio, begun under the reign of Charlemagne and continued under his successors, then revitalized under the reign of Ottonians. The literary and artistic genres in which allegories of vices and virtues appear, constitute a very varied corpus of sources (judicial, moral, iconographic, etc.). ZPŮSOBY OPTIMISTICKÉHO A VSTŘÍCNÉHO PŘÍSTUPU POMÁHAJÍCÍHO PRACOVNÍKA KE KLIENTOVI A JEHO MOŽNÉ ZDROJE / Effect of Job Style and also helping Worker Manner at another Live and People behaviourFLÍDROVÁ, Jana January 2012 (has links)
This thesis talks about different ways of dealing with people who find themselves in unfavourable social situations. It shows, based on casuistic cases and examples, the importance of a loving approach to the client. It describes particular ways of work with people who seem to be optimal from theoretical and practical point of view. It examines a conversation with a client in more detail. It tries to find an internal source of positive adjustment of the helping worker towards people. This adjustment is found not in set rules and instrumental method, but in a Christian approach to the person. A person, as an image of God is my fellowman and I am responsible for him/her. The source of a loving and optimistic approach to people comes from Christian culture, solidarity and respect for people, which is included in the Gospels. Christian approach to people is very much needed and should be part of social work within the middle of Europe.

bekehren. / Biblical and Ancient Studies / M. Th. (Old Testament)
