Nymphomaniac - porträttet av den skandinaviska nymfen? : En feministiskt driven närläsning / Nymph()maniac – portrait of the Scandinavian nymph? : A feminist-driven close reading

Tadic, Maria January 2020 (has links)
Nymphomaniac represents yet another complex art-movie by director Lars von Trier. The reception amongst film critics is seemingly incoherent about whether the film reproduces misogynist values or if the film could be perceived as feminist. This thesis aims to explore how Laura Mulvey’s theory of the male gaze still applies and provides tools for examination together with the intersectional approach, to decode and identify patriarchal conventions. As whiteness is inextricably linked to patriarchal structure it is discussed throughout this thesis and in a separate chapter. Hence this thesis suggests an intersectional feminist critical analysis to be the most adequate method to examine this movie and to fully comprehend how different elements of power coexist to suppress women and racialized people within the context of Nymphomaniac. This thesis concludes that von Trier does not only embrace the male gaze, he also occasionally rejects it.

Teorie pracovní motivace v socialistickém diskurzu 50. let / Work motivation theory in socialist discourse of the '50s

Gruntová Kolingerová, Hana January 2016 (has links)
The thesis focuses on the construction of the work motivation theory in the socialist management discourse in the 1950s' Czechoslovakia. For that purpose, two texts representing two periods (1951 and 1957) were selected and subjected to critical discourse analysis. The analysis focused on characterising the place of production, the producers and the audience as well as on characterising the construed theory and the method of its construction. Furthermore, a change in the discourse was described; the fact that certain discourse schemes were applied prior to the onset of the communist power was pointed out; and certain differences in terms of construction of work motivation theories in the liberal West were illustrated. In connection with Foucault's concepts of subjectification and disciplination, it was shown that the socialist discourse can be understood as a method of construction of the specific subjectivity of the workforce, used in a strategy of distribution of human working potential of all citizens of the State that corresponded with the application of extensive economy. Arkitektur från foucaultiansk maktperspektiv - Paimio Sanatorium

Riviera, Federica January 2022 (has links)
The study aims at the investigation and analysis of power relations connected to the sanatorium as a buildingtypology within the modernist architectural contest. The chosen building is the tuberculosis sanatorium ofPaimio, located in southwest Finland and built by architects Aino (1894-1949) and Alvar Aalto (1898-1976)between 1928 and 1933. The chosen theoretical framework is therefore based on the theories of Michel Foucault(1926-1984) about power, knowledge and discourse. The method used for this essay is inspired by the architecture theoretician Paul Hirst's notion of architecture as a discourse, its subjectification and a means of communication that changes over time, but also the semiotics of Umberto Eco and its conception of architecture as a double meaning tool. The study proceeds to analyze Paimio sanatorium taking into consideration the relationships between the various components of the building, their placement and formal elements as part of a bigger, institutional and medical discourse. The analysis of Paimio sanatorium has shown not only relevant historical and socio economic background butalso a mutual relationship between architecture and medical discourse capable of influencing each other overtime and space.

Tankeförbrytaren och tankesultanen : En foucauldiansk analys av Kallocain och Ett öga rött / The thought offender and the thought sultan : A foucauldian analysis of Kallocain and Ett öga rött

Ascic, Ana-Antonia January 2023 (has links)
This thesis studies Karin Boye’s novel Kallocain: Roman från 2000-talet (1940) and Ett öga rött (2003) by Jonas Hassen Khemiri. The aim of the analysis is to examine the novels’ portrayals of power in order to see if there are traces of totalitarian tendencies from the dystopian novel Kallocain, in the contemporary story of Ett öga rött. Due to the intention of the analysis, I chose to apply a palimpsestic methodology, meaning I have analyzed Ett öga rött – symbolically – on top of Kallocain. The theoretical groundwork consists mainly of Michel Foucault’s theory on power, particularly from his book Discipline and Punish (1975), but other works that have studied Foucault have been of help as well. My results show that the same disciplinary powers are visible in Kallocain and in Ett öga rött. The governments, schools and other individuals exert the same type of power over the main protagonists Leo and Halim, which confirms that the totalitarian methods used in the fictional state of Kallocain are also utilized in Hassen Khemiris portrayal of Sweden in Ett öga rött. The discussion on knowledge is applicable in the same way. The notions of propaganda and truth are hard to separate in both novels, but I conclude that knowledge is used to control and adapt nonconforming people to standard society, while also constructing the protagonists as subjects and objects of power. This happens in Kallocain as well as Ett öga rött. The protagonists also use three methods to resist the disciplinary power, mainly: external resistance, internal resistance, and mimicry. These forms of resistance aim to free the protagonists from the oppressive norms and make them feel like individuals who cannot be controlled.

The Adolescent Rebellion against Panoptical Society: A Foucauldian Analysis of Adolescent Development in Contemporary Young Adult Novels.

Allen, Clarissa Elizabeth 05 May 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Young adult literature has developed from a didactic means of behavioral control over adolescents to a means of promoting the reader's psychological development as an independent individual. In contemporary works (1970s onward), the use of Foucault's theory of the Panoptical society has given way to the development of the role of the adolescent rebel. In these novels, a pattern can be seen in which the protagonist defies the control of the Panoptical society and accepts the role of adolescent rebel. In particular, this pattern can be seen in the works of Francine Prose (After), Jerry Spinelli (Wringer and Stargirl), Bette Greene (The Drowning of Stephan Jones), and Gary Schmidt (Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Daughter). Each of these novels shows the adolescent rebel character defying the social ideals centered on age, gender roles, sexuality, and race. This pattern is important to the genre of young adult literature because it not only brings new literary merit to the idea of the "problem novel," but it also aids in the adolescent reader's psychological growth and development, as noted by Lawrence Kohlberg and Erik Erikson.

In i bubblan : Kolloledares upplevelser av kollo som något utöver det vanliga och vardagliga / Inside a bubble

Gustafsson, Anna January 2023 (has links)
Uppsatsventilering ägde rum den 13-01-2023 på Stockholms universitet.
