Fredriksson, Maja, Axelsson, Linnea January 2024 (has links)
In order for the world to become more socially, economically and environmentally sustainable by the year 2030, the UN created the global goals. A transition to a circular economy is necessary to reach the global goals. Circular economy means that resources are used in efficient circular flows and replace virgin material. Circular flows can reduce the large material consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases that the construction and industrial sectors are responsible for. Sweden's economy is currently linear. Only 3% of all the material that the nation consumes is reintroduced into the economy. There is a large supply of material from industrial waste in urban areas that is currently discarded but still has potential value to be reused. The purpose of the study is to inventory material flows in the Norrbotten region that are classified as condemned by companies and industries outside the construction sector. The study focuses in particular on inventorying residual materials in the cities of Luleå, Boden and Piteå and analyzing whether the materials can be reused as surface layer material for facade and roof of an environmental house. The analysis should result in use case scenarios for the residual materials with the greatest reuse potential to inspire for reuse. The study also examines the most common barriers for reuse in the construction sector. According to Ashby's material selection method, twelve criteria were defined. Of seven companies that were inventoried, twenty-six out of thirty-seven residual materials were excluded from the study. Eleven residual materials fulfilled the criteria necessary for reuse as surface layer material and were ranked according to a multi-criteria decision analysis. The three materials with the highest rank were stainless steel plate from heat exchangers, plate from sandwich elements and gabion wall of blast furnace slag. Use case scenarios for facade and roof surface layers were designed for these three materials. This showed good opportunities for the inventoried residual materials to be reused as surface layer material. The inventory of the few companies that was made showed that there is a large availability of material in the Norrbotten region that has the potential to be reused. The analysis showed that there are interesting material flows in industries that the construction sector can benefit from. Reuse of materials requires cooperation between the parties involved. The collaboration involves, among other things, sharing information on available resources in material flows, the properties and origin of the materials. This is necessary to facilitate the inventory of potential material to reuse. Integrity and competitiveness of companies and industries can affect the cooperation. A conceivable aspect that was discovered during the study was to allow the residual materials to be reused for other functions on the building. This, in combination with carrying out a large-scale material inventory, would be interesting for further studies.

Aenishaenslin, Cécile 09 1900 (has links)
Mots-clés : maladie de Lyme, prévention, facteurs sociaux, perception du risque, comportements préventifs, acceptabilité, priorisation des interventions, contrôle des tiques, aide à la décision multicritère, analyse multicritère, Québec, Suisse, « Une seule santé » / Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in temperate countries and is emerging in many parts of the world. Several prevention strategies exist and include strategies at the individual level, such as wearing protective clothing, and at the population level, including tick control interventions in the environment. The effectiveness of these strategies can be influenced by various factors, including social factors such as knowledge, perceptions and behaviors of the target population, and by their potential impacts on various sectors such as on the environment and on the economy. Also, these social factors and impacts are likely to vary according to the epidemiological and social context of the target population. The objective of this thesis was to study the main social factors and issues of importance to consider for the prioritization of preventive interventions for Lyme disease in two populations living in different contexts, particularly with regard to their epidemiological situation, that is in Quebec, where the incidence of Lyme disease is low, but emerging, and Switzerland, where it is high and has been endemic for more than three decades. The approach and the design of this study were based on two main theoretical models, namely the Health Belief Model and the multicriteria decision analysis approach. Factors associated with risk perception, that is the cognitive assessment of a person facing a risk, for Lyme disease were studied initially in the target populations. The results suggest that factors significantly associated with a high level of risk perception are different in the two regions. Then, the impact of knowledge on Lyme disease, exposure, perceptions on the adoption of individual preventive behavior and on the acceptability of tick control interventions were compared. The data suggest that the impact of these factors varies according to the type of behavior and interventions, but that the perception of efficacy is a common factor strongly associated with both aspects, and could be targeted in communication campaigns. The results also show that issues related to tick control interventions as perceived by the participants are common in both contexts, and shared by the stakeholders involved in the prevention of Lyme disease. Finally, a multi-criteria analysis model was developed using a participatory approach for the Quebec context, adapted to the Swiss context and allowed to prioritize preventive interventions according to different stakeholder perspectives. Rankings produced by these models prioritized interventions that primarily target human populations in preference to tick control interventions. Applying the multi-criteria decision analysis approach in the context of Lyme disease prevention led to the development of a versatile decision model that can be adapted to different contexts, including the epidemiological situation. These studies show that this approach can offer a rigorous and transparent way to integrate the multiple perspectives of stakeholders and issues of prevention including those relating to public health, animal and environmental health, social impacts, as well as economic, operational and strategic considerations. Their use in public health practices could facilitate the adoption of a practical and applied “One health” approach to Lyme disease and other zoonosis prevention. Application of a GIS Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis for the Identification of Intrinsic Suitable Sites in Costa Rica for the Application of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) through Spreading Methods.

Bonilla Valverde, José Pablo, Blank , Clemens, Roidt, Mario, Schneider, Lisa, Catalin, Stefan 27 March 2017 (has links) (PDF)
Costa Rica’s annual mean precipitation is above 3300 mm, but this precipitation is not evenly distributed in time or space, producing clear differentiated wet and dry seasons in most of the country. Droughts are also common phenomena which greatly affect the availability of water resources. Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) schemes are being taken into consideration to enhance the underground water storage capacity of the country. The present study constitutes the first assessment for the identification of suitable sites for the implementation of MAR technology spreading methods (SM) in Costa Rica. The suitable sites are identified by means of a geographic information system multi-criteria decision analysis (GIS-MCDA) based on four criteria: hydrogeological aptitude, terrain slope, top soil texture and drainage network density. Four steps are performed in order to identify these sites: problem definition, screening for suitable areas, suitability mapping, and sensitivity analysis. The suitability map was divided in two zones after the screening: suitable and unsuitable, the first zone was further divided in five classes according to the weighted linear combination (WLC) ranking. The results indicate that 61% of the country is suitable for conducting SM. This map is a tool for future implementation of MAR techniques in the country.

Sustainable Energy Development in Central Europe and East Asia: Different Scenarios and Options Evaluation / Sustainable Energy Development in Central Europe and East Asia: Different Scenarios and Options Evaluation

Tan, Tianhao January 2016 (has links)
This research presents an overview of different sustainable energy development scenarios in Central Europe and East Asia, and is aimed to evaluate the efficiency and availability for introducing a specific sustainable energy source. Accordingly: wind, hydropower, solar, bioenergy, geothermal, nuclear energy. By conducting analysis though multi criteria decision analysis (MCDA) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) models, divergences among energy options in Central Europe and East Asia are emphasised due to its preferences in hierarchy. A short introduction, related to the present energy outlook with a series of relative regressions and a case study based on corresponding statistics, is presented firstly. This gives insights to assess the evaluation of sustainable energy development options. Evaluation results indicating Central Europe and East Asia should introduce different sustainable energy technologies on account of their own strengths and drawbacks in energy judgements and criterions. Keywords Sustainable energy, energy development, Central Europe, East Asia, energy scenario, energy option, evaluation, multi criteria decision analysis (MCDA), analytic hierarchy process (AHP)

Dahlin, Sam, Åström, Mathias January 2020 (has links)
Research in the area of public procurement has gained increasing attention with increasing interest in researching different evaluation methods for incoming tenders in procurement. The study analyzed the structure for procurement with a multi-criteria model for observation of changes in ranking and studied the importance of correct scoring. A sensitivity and robustness analysis were used as a tool to study the stability and the strength of a contracting entity's priorities. The purpose of this thesis was a study to determine if the ranking of tenders became more sensitive to the structure of the model or for each tender's evaluation, where it was found that the ability to correctly score points was more crucial than being critical of weights assigned to the criteria in the procurement, respectively. Relationship between price and quality turned out to be unknown to some extent, the connection could be determined after all tenders were submitted and accumulated points were available.
