Slimani, Zakaria 15 December 2014 (has links)
The Islamic investor differs from its counterpart type, the homo-economicus, in its approach to the act of investment. Indeed, the first is not based solely on financial criteria to prioritize its investment choices, but also uses moral and ethical criteria to assess the effectiveness of its financial allocations. This particular behavior is explained by the fact that, performing acts of investments consistent with Islamic business ethics generates a pleasure of piety to this type of investor. The neo-classical financial theory ignores the existence of the pleasure of piety and its potential impact on the process of selecting investments. Also, portfolio theory and its corollary, the theory of CAPM do not take into account the preferences of the Islamic investor. Therefore, it is not able to use them to assess the effectiveness of its investment choices. To overcome this theoretical failure, we offer through our research, a model of asset pricing that takes into account the specificities of Islamic investment, for example, the inability to achieve a short selling and taking into account ethical and moral aspects of investment portfolios. This model should allow the homo-islamicus to achieve optimal allocation of its financial resources. The main results of our research show that unlike conventional socially responsible investment, Islamic investment is ethical and altruistic types. This specificity requires Islamic rating agencies, to take into account the levels of charitable giving that makes every business, when calculating its ethical note. We therefore develop a rating model for companies and investment portfolios that takes into consideration the specificity of Islamic investment. Subsequently, we propose two alternatives that enable Islamic investors to circumvent the prohibition to perform conventional short selling transactions. Finally, we build our Islamic assets pricing model.

Uma abordagem semiautomática para identificação de elementos de processo de negócio em texto de linguagem natural / A semi-automatic approach to identify business process elements in natural language text

Ferreira, Renato César Borges January 2017 (has links)
As avaliações apresentam resultados promissores. / To enable effective business process management, the first step is the design of appropriate process models to the organization’s objectives. These models are used to describe roles and responsibilities of the employees in an organizations. In addition, business process modeling is very important to report, understand and automate processes. However, the documentation existent in organizations about such processes is mostly unstructured and difficult to be understood by analysts. In this context, process modeling becomes highly time consuming and expensive, generating process models that do not comply with the reality of the organizations. The extracting of process models from textual descriptions may contribute to minimize the effort required in process modeling. In this context, this dissertation proposes a semi-automatic approach to identify process elements in natural language text. Based on the study of natural language processing, it was defined a set of mapping rules to identify process elements in text. In addition, in order to evaluate the mapping rules and to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach, a prototype was developed able to identify process elements in text in a semiautomatic way To measure the performance of the proposed prototype metrics were used to retrieve information such as precision, recall, and F-measure. In addition, two surveys were developed with the purpose of verifying the acceptance of the users. The evaluations present promising results. The analyses of 70 texts presented, on average, 73.61% precision, 70.15% recall and 71.82% F-measure. In addition, the results of the first and second surveys presented on average 91.66% acceptance of the participants. The main contribution of this work is to provide mapping rules for identify process elements in natural language text to support and minimize the time required for process modeling performed by process analysts.

The current study was motivated by the author's life experience being both blind and a musician. From a general approach to the language notion, the concept of notation is presented as an intermediary between the verbal languages and general communication. Goodman proposes an interesting theory about notation, whose principle relates to the need at providing means to identify plays. In this work the concept of Goodman and the criteria used to define the notational structure is going to be discussed and exemplified. Then this approach is applied in discussions case, music, chemistry, painting, electronic diagram, floor plan, especially in the "literature" of the (brazilian) movimento concretista / Este trabalho diz respeito ao conceito de notação tal qual o mesmo é desenvolvido por Nelson Goodman no livro Languages of art.

Enrique Valarelli Menezes 06 April 2017 (has links)
This dissertation is divided in two parts. In the first one I make a transcription of an unpublished manuscript by Mário de Andrade titled \"Syncopation\", belonging to the series \"Author\'s Manuscripts\" from the Mário de Andrade Archives, now located at the Institute of Brazilian Studies - IEB/USP. This manuscript consists in a collection of various annotations about the subject, made in several periods and gathered in the personal files of the poet and musicologist. To the transcription of this collection I added analyses, a contextualization of the annotations, and articulations with the published biography of the author. In the second part, I elaborate my thesis about syncopation in Brazil based on a development of the ideas and methodology presented in Mário de Andrade\'s manuscript, and seek to demonstrate it with various analyses of the rhythmic structure of Brazilian popular music, in particular of syncopation.

Using Secondary Notation to Influence the Model User's Attention

Stark, Jeannette 08 March 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Recently cognitive principles have been discussed for Conceptual Modeling with the aim to increase domain understanding, model comprehension and modeling efficiency. In particular, the principle of Perceptual Discriminability, which discusses the visual differences of modeling constructs, reveals potential for model comprehension if human attention is influenced in a way that important modeling constructs are more easily detected, and can hence faster be processed. Yet, so far no conditions how the human gaze can be influenced have been defined and evaluated for Conceptual Modeling. This dissertation extends Perceptual Discriminability for conditions to attract human attention for those constructs that are important for model comprehension. Furthermore, these conditions are applied to constructs of two different modeling grammars in general as well as to elements of the process flow of Business Process Models. To evaluate the results a laboratory experiment of extended Perceptual Discriminability is described in which significant differences have been identified for process flow comprehension. For the demonstration of the potential of extended Perceptual Discriminability BPMN secondary notation is improved by emphasizing those constructs that are most important for model comprehension. Therefore, those constructs that are important for model comprehension have been identified within a content analysis and have been worked on according to the conditions of extended Perceptual Discriminability for those visual variables that are free for an application in secondary notation.

Program Matters : From Drawing to Code

Miranda Carranza, Pablo January 2017 (has links)
Whether on paper, on site or mediating between both, means for reading and writing geometry have been central to architecture: the use of compasses and rulers, strings, pins, stakes or plumb-lines enabled the analysis and reproduction of congruent figures on different surfaces since antiquity, and from the renaissance onwards, the consistent planar representation of three-dimensional shapes by means of projective geometry. Tacitly through practice, or explicitly encoded in classical geometry, the operational syntaxes of drawing instruments, real or imaginary, have determined the geometric literacies regulating the production and instruction of architecture. But making marks on the surfaces of paper, stone or the ground has recently given way to the fundamentally different sequential operations of computers as the material basis of architectural inscription. Practices which have dominated architecture since antiquity make little sense in its current reading and writing systems. This thesis examines technologies of digital inscription in a search for literacies equivalent to those of drawn geometry. It particularly looks at programming as a form of notation in close correspondence with its material basis as a technology, and its effects on architecture. It includes prototypes and experiments, graphics, algorithms and software, together with their descriptions and theoretical analyses. While the artefacts and texts respond to the different forms, styles, interests and objectives specific to the fields and contexts in which they have originated, their fundamental purpose is always to critique and propose ways of writing and reading architecture through programming, the rationale of the research and practice they stem from. /
QC 20171129
