Touzet, Léo 30 November 2016 (has links)
The dissertation offers an economic, historical and pragmatic sociological study of business games, i.e. educational simulation games used to train future managers. Through a long history of business games on an international scale, the research specifies some important issues related to economics and management performativity. It suggests that a study of the alternatives for knowledge acquisition – among which gaming – and of the devices that support them, is central for a better understanding of the functioning of market economy. A genealogy of war games exposes the ancient origins and the elementary principles of business gaming. A study of the “simulated business operations” project initiated by Vital Roux in 1800 shows that they were a forerunner version of modern business games. A discussion on the pedagogical works of the pragmatist philosopher John Dewey presents the introduction of the first business games designated as such, which were created in the USSR as from 1932. Then, a focus on the interconnected developments of Operational Research, Game Theory and Computer Science is taken alongside a study of the very first computerized business games (1956, 1957). A sociological approach to the contemporary conception of business games reveals how they articulate economics and management, gathering the model and rules of the simulated market on one hand and a space of freedom with possibilities for strategic intervention on the other. Finally, a video-ethnography of business games shows their implementation within French business schools and explores the emotional dimension of management simulations.

Tudo é um: fluxo entre desenho e verbo / Everything is one: fluxus between drawing and verb

Luiza Crosman de Rezende 31 March 2014 (has links)
This dissertation investigates a set of processual drawings that constitute a part of my artistic process, which I denominated concept-drawings. This investigation is made through six transdisciplinary tangents, in an attempt to establish points of contact between the practice of drawing and other contemporary investigative practices of human knowledge. These tangents are: Tangent Diagrams, Tangent Cosmology, Tangent Drawings, Tangent Linguistics, Tangent Logic/Mathemathics and Tangent Scripture. The research also seeks to establish a closer relationship between theory and work of art presenting itself as text and as a Binder, in which the lexicon of concept-drawings are brought together with a series of annotations that were made throughout the research. Both concept-drawings and annotations are key points for the formation of the conceptual architecture of the lexicon. Together with the text, these annotations and drawings intend to question the relationship between the space-time relation with the body of he who performs actions. The research concludes with concept of performativity in the works "Desire to communicate" and "Obscena", openning new practical procedures within my process as an artist

A política de bonificação e avaliação em larga escala : tensões e intenções implicadas no trabalho docente em escolar estaduais do Rio de Janeiro / The bonus policy and evaluation : tensions and intentions involved in teaching in state schools of Rio de Janeiro

Diogo Silva do Nascimento 05 May 2015 (has links)
This study investigates the tensions and bonus policy intentions prepared by the Secretariat of State and Education of Rio de Janeiro (2011-2014), with the objective: identify the settings that teaching has taken after the implementation of the subsidy policy, from the perspective of teachers; characterize aspects of the quality of a school that receives the bonus and one that does not receive and identify the quality nature of the evidence that permeates the school receiving the bonus. However, the investigation of the relationships established in the school context by the bonus policy, also permeates important issues today as: examining the contribution of culture in the production of indicators and how it interfered with the Secretariat actions. Therefore, the reports of teachers, about the experiences woven into the implementation of the subsidy at school, built the central part of the work. The choice of qualitative methodology, with a large contribution and indicative paradigm in studies of performativity, was justified by its power to see the complexity of relations practiced in school is great potential for understanding and meaning of existing tensions in everyday school life. So for a broad understanding, were also investigated the movements that occurred in the implementation of the first subsidy policy of the State of Rio de Janeiro, named the New School. In addition, teacher bonus in other states policies were surveyed. However, the evidence presented initially left no doubt about the real effectiveness of the subsidy. After all, what the quality promoted by the rebate policy?

Perceptions of Healthy and Respectful Relationships and Friend Zone Phenomena

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: The term “friend zone” has been used in various areas of social media and pop culture to define a situation where one individual covets a relationship with a close friend that never evolves; typically the situation includes a male seeking a potential romantic partner with a female. Although friendship is often viewed in a positive format and sometimes the foundation of a healthy relationship, this term has been stigmatized as an unfortunate situation and counterproductive to obtaining a fulfilling relationship. To approach the multi-faceted concern of friend zone phenomena and the many areas damaging messages that occur, my thesis starts with the history of friend zone phenomena, establishing a definition of friend zone phenomena for future scholars. Next literature on friendship and love, and Galician’s work used for both the methodology and theoretical framework is introduced leading to the analysis. The methodology and theoretical framework for the analysis uses Mary-Lou Galician’s 7-Step-Reality-Check-Up, twelve Myths social media promoted as the preferred reading and the Twelve Prescriptions (Rxs) for Getting Real About Romance. Resources on the discourses of gender performativity, psychology, and sociology are also included in the theoretical framework. I start with an introduction to retrograde misogyny, The Manosphere (including The Red Pill [TRP]), the Elliot Rodger case and rape culture. This initial segment is analyzed differently from the other texts to describe the crux of social justice issues within friend zone phenomena. I then analyze 10 online memes related to friend zone phenomena. Lastly, I analyze Jet and Star’s new book, How to Get out of the Friend Zone –their book is a textual version of the advice they give on their YouTube channel. Throughout all the texts Myths 5 (Physical Attraction), 6 (Man = Stronger), and 13 (No Cross-Sexual Friends) were all proposed as the preferred reading. Myth 14 (Men Want Sex/Women Want Money) was prevalent across the memes and TRP/Rational Male. All four myths are laden with gender performativity with damaging perceptions of healthy and respectful relationships. Additional research on friend zone phenomena in the form of interviews and surveys is recommended as research is still sparse. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Social Justice and Human Rights 2015

Women’s Experiences as Doctoral Students in Music Education

January 2017 (has links)
abstract: ABSTRACT This study examines the experiences of five women doctoral students in music education. The goal was to gain insight into the important experiences and concerns they encountered during their studies. While the literature on women in other fields indicates that socialization of women to the academy differs from that of their male counterparts, this concern has yet to be addressed in the field of music education. Participants, selected to show maximum variation in personal and professional characteristics, were women who had previously taught in K-12 settings and who were enrolled in or recently graduated from a doctoral program in music education in the United States. Data were collected primarily through in-depth interviews and photo elicitation, and were analyzed through both individual case and cross-case analyses. All of the women initially stated gender was not an issue that influenced their doctoral studies, but analysis showed that they had clearly internalized the socially constructed roles and expectations reflected in society, and that those roles and expectation did, indeed, impact their choices and behaviors prior to and during their doctoral studies. Three facets of gender were important, specifically socially constructed roles and expectations for women in both their families and in their doctoral studies, gender performativity related to the male-centered expectations in academia, and the importance of intersectionality. The participants’ doctoral experiences were contextualized not just by their gender, but also by their race/ethnicity, class, sexuality, religion, and age. Analysis supports other researchers’ findings that women doctoral students may have different experiences in their doctoral studies than their male counterparts. Recommendations for doctoral programs in music education and music teacher educators are provided. This study’s findings suggest further research is needed to investigate the impact of gender balance in doctoral cohort and faculty, amount of teaching experience prior to studies, and educational background or prior research experience on women’s doctoral experiences, as well as the roles of intersectionality and performativity for women in an academic context. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music Education 2017

This study is about sexualities narratives in the intertwining of knowledge and experiences of two protagonists in contemporary urban scene of Campina GrandePB, the transvestite Valquíria Montini and Maria de Calú, owner of the first gay bar in this city. I chose to work with interviews, analyze these narratives - that are in temporalities that crisscross between the 1940s to the present time - the sexuality studied on aspects of experience, spaces and aesthetic transformations of bodies. We also analyzed the elaborations of themselves, the affections and ways of life that occur in the interactions of the subjects that take place in different spaces in Campina Grande and other cities. Finally, we analyze the narratives of their own bodies, the notions of being a transvestite and the multiplicity of experiences that allow subversion of identities as fixed and naturalized. To weave new perspectives about these interactions, we use the theoretical dialogues by Judith Butler, Michel Foucault, Michel de Certeau and Gilles Deleuze.

Contemporaneity has contributed to changes in the way gender and sexuality issues are seen in society. Traditional patterns have been broken and some forms of prejudice do not fit into current society anymore. Today, some men and women have no longer a single, fixed identity, and no longer form a dual pair, and this fragmentation of gender identities makes it possible to create nomenclatures. Based on this context of change, the characters of our corpus are women, men, gays, lesbians, and the construction of gender is seen, therefore, as a narrative strategy, in which women writers try to show that there are possibilities for gender formation which differs from the patterns imposed by the heteronormative matrix. Thus, we perform an analysis of how these configurations of gender, male or female, are represented in literature, starting from a premise that gender identities suffer ruptures from traditional models and are displaced, due to diverse sexual orientations present in contemporary times. As a corpus of this work, we chose five works by American, Brazilian and English writers, beginning in the 1970s: Rubyfruit Jungle (1973) by Rita Mae Brown; The Front Runner (1974), by Patricia Nell Warren; Hotel Dulac (1984), by Anita Brookner; Duas iguais (1996), by Cíntia Moscovich and Sapato de salto (2006), by Lygia Bojunga. The configuration of the characters gender identity is analyzed in the light of Judith Butler's theory of performativity (1993, 2003, 2004, 2015), according to which gender is constituted through the repetition of stylized acts that become inherent to individual. Butler, along with Rubin (1975), Wittig (1982, 1993) and Connell (2000), also addresses issues related to the construction of masculinities and/or femininities, and Laclau (1990, 2004), Ortiz (1998, 2006) and Santos (1993), among others, ground the study on the changes that occurred in society, as well as these interfere in the construction of the gender identity.

The present work aims at proposing an operational concept of Subjectivity suitable for the Functional Discourse Grammar (Hengeveld & Mackenzie, 2008, henceforth FDG) approach. To achieve this goal, firstly, it was conducted an analysis of the main linguistic approaches of the phenomenon was conducted, highlighting the features they share in common and the theoretical implications to FDG. From this analysis, a provisory concept of Subjectivity was proposed, segmenting it in two subtypes: Inherent Subjectivity, related to the dialogical character of language and named as such due to its presence in all uses of language; and Grammatical Subjectivity, related to the systematic codification of the speaker's attitude and based on the concept of performativity. Based on this provisory concept, potential forms of expression of Grammatical Subjectivity were analyzed, in a corpus constituted by the Iboruna database and complemented by occurrences extracted from the internet. The distinction between Inherent Subjectivity and Grammatical Subjectivity allowed not only to explain the inconsistence in conceiving modality as an expression of subjectivity and dividing it in subjective and objective modality, but also allowed to limit the phenomenon of subjectivity, making it possible also to identify the layers in the hierarchical structure of language subjective forms of expression act upon, representing an advance in the comprehension of this phenomenon.
