Trygg med trygghetslarm? : en kvalitativ studie av några ålderspensionärers erfarenheter och upplevelser av trygghetslarmLindén, Jenny January 2006 (has links)

The purpose of this study was to depict some elderly people’s experiences of personal safety alarms. Furthermore, the aim was to look into whether there is any difference in experience between men and women and depending on their level of care. Using a qualitative method, semi-structured interviews were carried out with eight elderly people; six women and two men. The main questions of the study were: How do the elderly people experience the practical use of personal safety alarms? In what ways, if any, do the elderly people experience that the personal safety alarm has changed their daily life? In what ways do the elderly people experience that the personal safety alarm effects their ability to stay in their own home? A cognitive perspective was mainly used to analyze the results. The results of the study showed that there were no significant differences between men and women’s experiences or considering their level of care. In the elderly people’s opinion, the personal safety alarm works well and affects their ability to remain in their own home. The personal safety alarm has not made any significant difference in the elderly people’s daily life, although some of them feel a sense of safety.

Riskbedömning och underhållsstrategier för ABB:s högeffektlaboratorium i Västerås / Risk assessment and maintenance strategies for ABB's High Power Laboratory in VästeråsNyberg, Johan January 2015 (has links)
In the upcoming years, ABB's high power laboratory in Västerås is facing a period of reinvestments. In order to facilitate the decision-making, and to lay the foundation to effective maintenance programs for new equipment, it is important to have a clearly defined maintenance strategy, including methods to adequately assess the plant and its risk factors. The aim of this report is to suggest such strategies and risk assessments methods.A literature study of maintenance engineering, followed by a qualitative study of the high power laboratory's prerequisites, leads up to a maintenance strategy based on the primary business strategies of ABB Corporate Research. Assigning a risk class to different components enables a risk-adapted maintenance schedule to be deployed. These risk classes are the weighted result of qualitative risk assessments that includes both economic and human consequences. The cohesive structure in this strategy is the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), hence the importance of its data being thorough, complete and searchable. At the high power laboratory, risk assessments in areas related to personal safety is commonly used, and the technical skills within ABB Corporate Research's own personnel is high. Thus, the step of implementing a qualitative risk assessment approach to maintenance management should be fairly straight forward.

Serious occupational injuries by "accidents" : possible means of prevention and injury mitigationJarl, Torgny January 1989 (has links)
An analysis of the circumstances preceding severe occupational injuries as a consequence of impacts has shown that well-known risks are of great importance in 75 per cent of the cases. This indicates that the subjective cause "neglect" is common. The negligence is distributed to the same extent among employers as among employees. Negligence by the employers was defined as obvious violations according to the Law of Workers’ Safety or Regulations issued by The National Board of Occupational Health and Safety. Negligence by employees was defined as actions against specific orders or common sense. As a result of this study additional research concerning the execution of Criminal Law in occupational accidents has been carried out. The law has also been changed regarding prosecution in cases of breaking the Law on the working environment. In situations where elimination of risks is not possible it is a most important task to minimize the risk of severe injury. In four of the studies there are examples of minimization of injuries by increased usage of personal safety equipment, improved rescue and by modifying the environment. If personal safety equipment could be used in all relevant situations the incidence of severe injuries at the place of work would decrease by more than 25 per cent. However, the crucial insufficiencies as to the specifications of personal protective equipment must be emphasized. This should stimulate the development of environmental changes, thus preventing the build-up and release of potentially dangerous energy. Working alone and late rescue for other reasons, together with other circumstances following the injury made the injuries worse in a little more than 10 per cent of the cases. In the studies concerning injuries as the result of impacts in trucks and buses it is shown that a lot of trucks turn over and that a large number of injuries occur as a result of deformation of the cabins. A safety belt would offer good protection against injury in about half of the cases. Safety in trucks and buses could be improved by the introduction of a deformative zone in front of the occupants. Front designs of cab-over vehicles should be changed and the use of seat belts in trucks and buses should be made compulsory. Passive seat belts, knee bars and air bags are interesting alternatives and additions to manual seat belts for commercial drivers. /
Diss. Parents Talking About the Birds and the Bees With Their Elementary School Aged Children: A Naturalistic StudyReichel, Lori 16 December 2013 (has links)
This dissertation presents three separate studies exploring parents’ perceptions and recommendations for communicating with their third, fourth, and fifth grade children about human sexuality. First, a systematic literature review is presented summarizing past qualitative studies completed in the United States focusing on parents with children aged 18 years and under. This review summarizes (1) demographic information of parents from past studies, (2) perceived communication barriers experienced by parents regarding sexuality communication, and (3) perceived communication facilitators experienced by parents regarding sexuality communication.
Second, noting the lack of research within a specific population of parents in the United States, a naturalistic study of parents with children in the third, fourth, and fifth grade is presented. Utilizing an emergent design, one-on-one interviews were conducted with 20 parents living in a town in central Texas. By coding collected data, a thematic analysis was used to summarize emergent themes. Themes included techniques parents utilized to have parent-child conversations about sexuality and discussed topics. Although different techniques and topics were raised, parents showed overall inconsistency in experiences or past discussions.
Third, using data from the same 20 interviews, themes emerged from parents regarding recommendations. These included the recommendations that a booklet with age appropriate information on sexuality topics be developed for parents and parent workshops or classes covering age appropriate sexuality knowledge as well as techniques to use in parent-child communication be offered. Schools were the recommended source for these resources. Parents also shared feedback on the newly released National Sexuality Education Standards. Comparing past parent-child conversations on sexuality topics to the NSES, certain topics were discussed yet inconsistency was shown. In addition, parents disagreed on specific standards including those pertaining to the functions of reproductive parts, reproduction, and same sex orientation.
Implications of this study are that parental resources are needed to help parents communicate with their children about sexuality beginning at a young age. And, for those resources already existing, including workshops, books, and on-line sources, parents need to be made aware of their existence. In addition, future research is needed to explore if younger children are learning from parent-child conversations about sexuality.

Headsetkommunikation för maskinbesättning : En kvalitativ studie om hur headsetkommunikation upplevs påverka personlig säkerhet och arbetseffektivitet för maskinbesättningen.Petersen, Daniel January 2014 (has links)
This is a qualitative interview study researching the experience engine room personnel have with using headset communication in their work onboard. A total of six crewmembers were interviewed about their experiences and how headset communication had affected their ability to perform their work, personal safety and time efficiency. The results showed that communication had improved with the use of headsets and that speech communication where no longer limited by high noise levels which in turn leads to less strain on the voice. The interviewed crew members testified that the improved communication facilitated their work and enhanced the personal safety by decreasing the risk for misunderstandings and increasing their situational awareness. Increased ergonomics in situations with difficult working postures and limited space in comparison with hand held radios were also observed as an advantage with headset communication. Time efficiency was perceived to improve since the availability of other crewmembers on the radio increased and decreased the need for moving to another area to communicate which at the same time lead to faster response times. Increased availability of crewmembers on the radio could also shorten the time before an accident in the engine room is detected since a failure to answer a radio call would be seen as irregular behavior.

Týraní senioři jako cílová skupina pro neziskové organizace / Elder abuse as a target group of non-profit institutionsŠpeldová, Martina January 2018 (has links)
The theoretical part of this thesis contains the definitions of getting old, being old and the demographics that are connected with these periods of life. Most of the theoretical part pertains to EAN Syndrome and its manifestation and impacts on people's lives. I concerns legislation, EAN Syndrome, non-profit organizations, but the majority of this theoretical section deals with emergency services. I also added the real stories of abused seniors. I used fived case histories of emeregency services clients from the non-profit organization named Elpida, because of the relevance of Elpida's work on elderly. The next part contains transcribed interviews with employees of this organization. I have also inserted my own comments and created tables with the results. The research confirmed, that emergency services are integral to the prevention and solution to EAN Syndrome.
