Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne (1555-1623), vicomte de Turenne, maréchal et duc de Bouillon, est l’un des principaux lieutenants d’Henri de Navarre pendant les guerres de religion. Jouissant d’une belle longévité, il est impliqué dans la plupart des événements politiques des années 1570, avec la formation du mouvement des Malcontents, à sa mort, en particulier sous la régence de Marie de Médicis et lors du déclenchement de la guerre de Trente ans. L’approche du personnage a longtemps été brouillée par les campagnes de libelles lancées contre lui à la fin de sa vie et par les critiques de Sully, Richelieu et Rohan dans leurs mémoires, qui font de lui un éternel trublion, ingrat à l’égard du roi et prompt à la révolte. Cette dégradation de son image s’explique par le contexte politique des années 1610 au cours desquelles il joue un rôle majeur. Elle constitue une réaction à la spectaculaire affirmation politique et sociale de la maison La Tour d’Auvergne depuis le milieu du XVe siècle, processus dans lequel il joue un rôle décisif. Elle s’explique par la tension dynamique qui apparaît, à partir de son avènement à Sedan en 1591, entre ses fonctions de sujet du roi de France, de chef de file du parti protestant et de prince souverain étranger. Henri de La Tour jouit d’une grande capacité d’action en raison de sa polyvalence – ambassadeur, chef de guerre, prince lettré, bâtisseur, législateur – et des puissants réseaux dans lesquels il s’intègre, et qu’il contrôle parfois, dans le royaume de France et dans l’Europe protestante. / Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne (1555-1623), viscount of Turenne and maréchal-duc de Bouillon, was one of Henri de Navarre’s principal lieutenants during the French Wars of Religion. Having lived a long life, he was involved in most of the political events during the 1570’s, from the creation of the Malcontents, to his death, particularily during the reign of Marie de Medicis and the Thirty years war. Towards the end of his life, satirical writings and criticism from Sully, Richelieu and Rohan, marred understanding of his actions, portraying him as a perpetual troublemaker, ungrateful to the king and quick to revolt. This negative portrait of his character is due to the political context of the 1610’s during which he was one of the main figures. Such a distortion is a reaction to the spectacular political and social ascent of the House of La Tour d’Auvergne from the middle of XVth century onwards in which he played a leading role. It is also due to a dynamic tension starting with his arrival in Sedan in 1591, in his duties as a subject of the King of France, as leader of the Huguenots and as a sovereign prince abroad. His great reactivity is explained by his varied functions – as ambassador, war leader, a well-read prince, builder, legislator – and his participation at the heart of powerful networks, which he sometimes controlled, throughout the Kingdom of France and Protestant Europe.

It reflects on the importance of the woman s role to the diffusion of Protestantism in general, and its Presbyterian trend in particular, besides commenting on the proliferation of printings at the First Republic and its relation with education. In this study, Brazilian Northeastern is seen as a relevant space to the diffusion of Protestantism in Brazil; especially on what concerns the relations between Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco. Thereby some fountains were fundamental, as the confessional printings, that is, newspapers, magazines, prospects and other materials recollected in archives located in Natal/RN and Recife/PE, and S?o Paulo. It was also provided a brief incursion on Portuguese confessional printings kept in Oporto, PT. New Cultural History was chosen as theoretic-methodological guide, franchising ways inside the history of book and reading with the help of concepts like Interdependence, Social Configuration (ELIAS, 1993, 1994) and Representation (CHARTIER, 1990), considering that the survey worked out culture-manufactured products that is, intentional materials. It is well known that publishing, or better, the dissemination of printed material used to be associated to Protestants missionary practices since Reform began and, as what concerns the investigated period, in Portuguese and Brazilian lands indistinctly. Printing material in general books, booklets, fragments, as well as the press itself played a central role in divulging reformed ideas, their social options and the means of being and intervening in the world. In this regard, the confessional printings established themselves as an educative, although non schooled, informal space, but, all considered, relevant, seen that they dialogue with another important demand of that social group: formal, literate education. Because it dealt with the diffusion of a printed culture supported by the written word, it required of that group a different modus operandi: formal education. The first letters schools at first, then the high schools later represented spaces established for the circulation of printing material in order that they should be read, divulged and comprehended. This survey intends at last to take a look at Protestantism which, in this context of self-affirmation, reserved a specific place to woman by working out a non formal educational proposal disseminated by printing material. Three models were highlighted in the reformed proposal: Christian education in itself, household education, whose references of motherhood and care towards the neighbor were present and, at last, education to the public space, with emphasis on the practice of teaching. This study also offers a brief dialogue between Brazil and Portugal because, when some periodic printing, book or something like that got to be published in one margin of the Atlantic Ocean, the other margin surely was affected by that feat, received it, divulged it, corroborating the argument in support of the circulation of these printings. It was not only the same language that survived in both maritime coasts; some protestant specificities also crossed out along that sea / O presente trabalho identifica os impressos confessionais como espa?o n?o formal para a educa??o feminina, reflete acerca da import?ncia do papel da mulher na difus?o do Protestantismo em geral e da vertente presbiteriana em particular, al?m de dissertar sobre a prolifera??o dos impressos na Primeira Rep?blica e sua rela??o com a educa??o. Compreende o Nordeste brasileiro como espa?o de relev?ncia na difus?o do Protestantismo no Brasil, em especial as rela??es forjadas entre o Rio Grande do Norte e Pernambuco. As fontes utilizadas foram impressos confessionais, a saber, jornais, revistas, prospectos, coletadas em arquivos das cidades de Natal/RN, Recife/PE e S?o Paulo/SP. Vale salientar que uma breve incurs?o tamb?m foi feita nos jornais confessionais portugueses, coletados nos arquivos da cidade do Porto/PT. Como op??o te?rico-metodol?gica, elegeu-se a Nova Hist?ria Cultural, transitando pela hist?ria do livro e da leitura, utilizando os conceitos Interdepend?ncia, Configura??o Social (ELIAS, 1993, 1994) e Representa??o (CHARTIER, 1990), uma vez que a pesquisa em tela utilizou-se de materiais culturalmente produzidos e logo, intencionais. Sabe-se que a atividade editorial, ou seja, a divulga??o de material impresso esteve, frequentemente, aliada ? atividade mission?ria dos protestantes desde o in?cio da Reforma e, particularmente, no per?odo investigado, tanto em terras brasileiras quanto portuguesas. Os impressos de um modo geral livros, por??es, op?sculos e a imprensa, de forma singular, tiveram um papel central na difus?o das ideias reformadas, de suas op??es sociais e dos modos de estar e intervir no mundo. Sob tais aspectos, os impressos confessionais estabeleceram-se como um espa?o educativo, n?o escolarizado, informal, mas de igual maneira relevante, uma vez que dialogavam com outra necessidade do grupo social em pauta: a educa??o escolar, letrada. Por se tratar da difus?o de uma cultura impressa, balizada pela palavra escrita, exigia um modus operandi diferenciado por parte desse grupo social: a educa??o formal. As escolas de primeiras letras, inicialmente, e os grandes col?gios depois, foram espa?os propostos e criados a fim de que o impresso tamb?m pudesse circular, ser lido, divulgado, aprendido. Esta pesquisa pretende, ao fim e ao cabo, lan?ar um olhar sobre o Protestantismo que, nesse contexto de autoafirma??o, destinou, de certa forma, um lugar espec?fico ? mulher, forjando uma proposta educativa n?o formal disseminada atrav?s dos impressos. Neste trabalho, apresentaram-se alguns dos casos existentes em Fortaleza e a partir deles foram apontadas as caracterÃsticas de um pastorado feminino e os modelos encontrados neste campo. Os modelos encontrados no campo encontram-se na equaÃÃo das variÃveis âpermanÃncia e rupturaâ com relaÃÃo ao modelo bÃblico de mulher que permeia o imaginÃrio religioso das pastoras. Foi utilizada a metodologia qualitativa com uso das narrativas de vida, com a finalidade de analisar suas trajetÃrias de vida, compreendendo como à o processo de ascensÃo de mulheres ao cargo pastoral em configuraÃÃes denominacionais diferentes. / The present research seeks to analyze the narratives of the trajectories of Protestant Christian women up to their admission to the pastoral office, focusing on the meaning of womenâs ordination as given by the female ministers. In this paper, some existing cases in Fortaleza were presented, and the characteristics of a female pastoral care and the models found in this field were noted. The models in the field are found in the equation of âpermanence and ruptureâ variables as related to the biblical model of women which permeates the religious mindset of the female ministers. A qualitative methodology was used with life narratives for the purpose of analyzing their life trajectories, understanding what the process is like in the rise of women to the pastoral office in different denominational settings.

Join the legacy left by the reformer to the world of liturgical music and its impact to this day. Presents Luther as a composer and reveals his intention of making music, especially those intended for the liturgy, a prerogative of all participants of the masses, not just the clergy, as was the case until then. Emphasizes the uses of music in the work of the reformer who view it as a pedagogical tool, to be a communication vehicle for their doctrines, and also as an object of study, since their education is encouraged by him from the early grades. It concludes that Luther still appears relevant to contemporary given their concern to make use of music as a training tool and also for information / Aborda questões pertinentes à música e sua relação com a Reforma Protestante do século XVI, que tem como principal expoente o Monge Agostiniano Martinho Lutero. Aponta as implicações dos ideais da Reforma na arte musical por ter exercido papel de suma importância na divulgação dos princípios luteranos. Mostra o lugar ocupado pela música na trajetória do reformador desde sua infância até o ambiente acadêmico, bem como a relevância dessa temática em toda a sua obra. Registra o legado deixado pelo reformador para o universo da música litúrgica e sua repercussão até os dias atuais. Apresenta Martinho Lutero como compositor e revela seu intuito de tornar a música, principalmente a destinada para a liturgia, uma prerrogativa de todos os participantes das missas, e não apenas dos clérigos, como acontecia até então. Therefore, this study s goal is to provide a general look of how the Protestant Reformation influenced the politics, specifically in Germany and in its late unification process; and to understand how the Church s division, starting with the Protestant Reformation, generated consequences in the political world. In order to analyze the role of Protestantism in the formation of the German nation, the Catholic Church s history was analyzed, showing its evolution and how in the medieval period, it became an independent and autonomous institution, that possessed many lands, riches and the monopoly of knowledge. An institution capable of exercising great political and social influence in the people and in the civil authorities. This research is organized around the question: is there in fact a real influence of Protestantism in the formation of the German nation? Based on historical and theological arguments, the suggested hypothesis is that the Protestantism influenced the formation of the modern political thought, more specifically in the formation of the concept of German nation, given the verifications as: the real power the Catholic Church had over the government of the European territories, influence that was extended to Lutheranism in Christianity s division, especially when it was used by princes who sought regional autonomy, which led to the strengthening of the internal segregation of the territories that would come to constitute Germany. / A dissertação analisa a influência política da Igreja no Estado, tema polêmico com raízes de grande profundidade na história, principalmente no período de formação dos Estados, quando a Igreja possuía muitas riquezas e poder e dominava a instrução, influenciando a base política e infiltrando as autoridades seculares. A partir dessa realidade, o objetivo desse estudo é fornecer uma visão, de uma forma geral, de como a Reforma Protestante influenciou a política, especificamente na Alemanha e em seu processo tardio de unificação. Procura-se compreender como a cisão da Igreja, a partir da Reforma Protestante, gerou conseqüências no mundo político. Para analisar o papel do protestantismo na formação do Estado-nação alemão, analisa-se um histórico da Igreja Católica, mostrando a sua evolução e como, no período medieval, se tornou uma instituição independente e autônoma, possuidora de diversas terras, riquezas e do monopólio do conhecimento. Uma instituição capaz de exercer grande influência política e social, tanto no povo como nas autoridades seculares. A pesquisa se organiza a partir do seguinte problema central: há, de fato, uma real influência do protestantismo na formação do Estado-nação alemão? Com base em argumentos históricos e teológicos, a hipótese sugerida é que o protestantismo exerceu influência na formação do pensamento político moderno, mais especificamente na própria formação do conceito de Estado-nação alemão, a partir de constatações como: o real poder exercido pela Igreja Católica no governo dos territórios europeus, influência esta que se estendeu ao luteranismo na cisão do cristianismo, principalmente quando este foi utilizado por príncipes que buscavam autonomia regional, o que levou ao fortalecimento da segregação interna dos territórios que viriam a constituir a Alemanha.

A arquitetura religiosa da época do Renascimento apresentou criações balizadas pela reflexão teórica florescida nesse período, por meio das elaborações dos Tratados de arquitetura. No contexto histórico conturbado do início da idade moderna, as questões religiosas envolvendo a contestação do protestantismo e a reação da contrarreforma por parte da Igreja Católica, principalmente por meio do evento emblemático do Concílio de Trento (1545-1563), trouxeram influências nas artes figurativas desse período. No campo da arquitetura religiosa, a influência também se faz sentir. Carlos Borromeu (1538-1584), arcebispo da cidade de Milão, expoente do pensamento contrarreformista, produz aquela que é considera a única obra desse campo de ideias no que diz respeito à arquitetura religiosa, trata-se das suas Instructionum Fabricae et Supellectilis Ecclesiasticae libri duo (1577). Por meio da ação de seu arquiteto de confiança, Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527-1596), o Borromeu introduz um amplo programa de transformações no espaço arquitetônico, privilegiando aspectos funcionais relativos ao decoro do culto, correspondendo em grande medida às ideias postuladas pelo Tridentino. Este trabalho visa dar conhecimento desse texto do Borromeu por meio de uma tradução inédita do texto original latino para a língua portuguesa. / The religious architecture of the Renaissance period presented creations buoyed by growing up theoretical reflection in this period, through elaborations of architecture treaties. In the troubled historical context of the early modern age, religious issues involving the contestation of Protestantism and the reaction of Protestant Reformation by the Catholic Church, particularly through the flagship event of the Council of Trent (1545-1563), brought influences in the figurative arts of this period. In the field of religious architecture, the influence is also felt. Charles Borromeo (1538-1584), archbishop of Milan, exponent of Protestant Reformation though, produces that which is considered the only work of this field of ideas with regard to religious architecture, it is their Instructionum Fabricae et Supellectilis Ecclesiasticae libri duo (1577), also known as De Fabrica Ecclesiae. Through the action of his trusted architect Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527-1596), the Borromeo introduces a comprehensive transformation program in architectonic space, focusing on functional aspects of the service decorum, corresponding largely to the ideas postulated by Tridentine. This work aims to inform this Borromean text through an unpublished translation of the original Latin text into Portuguese language.

The study examines the establishment of protestant education and the contribution of the American education system in the modernization process of Brazilian education in the second half of the 19th century; the creation of Colégio Granbery in Juiz de Fora, followed by the controversies that marked its arrival, as well as the pedagogical approaches adopted. The historical processes behind the establishment of a new educational system based on the democratic and liberal principles of American education, as exercised by the Granbery Institute, are also presented through an analysis of the statutes, periodicals, newspaper articles and photographs found in the historical archives of the Granbery Museum, in Juiz de Fora.

O conflito abarca situações nas quais o movimento LGBT busca direitos, partindo da Constituinte de 1987, passando pelo casamento entre pessoas do mesmo sexo, pelo “Kit Gay” e tendo como conflito central o debate sobre a “Cura Gay”. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida a partir de revisões bibliográficas, da leitura de arquivos de jornais e de documentos da Câmara dos Deputados, além de vídeos das audiências públicas e das postagens dos atores envolvidos no Facebook. O objetivo é saber como os evangélicos discursam na esfera pública e as mudanças operadas por estes em seu discurso com relação a questões de moral e sexualidade. O conflito é analisado com base nas teorias da laicidade, secularização e nas noções de democracia agonística e pânico moral. / This dissertation aims to address public/political conflict opposing the LGBT movement and protestant by focusing on their speech and arguments. The conflict involves situations where the LGBT movement fight for rights, since the context of 1987 Constituent Assembly, going through same-sex marriage and the "Gay Kit", taking the "Gay Cure" issue as the central conflict. The research was developed from bibliographic review, newspaper archives and House of Representatives’ documents reading, as well as videos of public hearings and Facebook posts from activists. The goal is to understand evangelic speech in the public sphere and its changes about moral issues and sexuality. The conflict was analyzed according to theories of secularism, secularization, agonistic democracy and moral panic.

Filial piety of Confucianism as a challenge for Korean churches : a practical theological study

This present thesis has been prudently undertaken how to approach practically and theologically the ethical issues for the effective preaching with Confucian filial piety which has challenged Korean churches. Serious conflicts are arising among Korean families because of Confucianism teachings that filial piety is the highest virtue of all ethical teachings and that ancestor worship is the continuation of filial piety to the dead parents. This issue creates a rigorous religious controversy for Korean Christians and places obstacles in the path of evangelism in Korean society. Chapter one reveals the research orientation which gives general information on how to approach and develop this issue. I approach this issue historically, theologically, practically, and/or biblically. I adopt fundamental practical theology as the main research positioning, which was suggested by Don Browning. I also make use of seven movements proposed by J C Müller in order to present the literary research and six fundamental steps proposed by Lewis and Demarest only for the theological foundation in chapter three. Chapter two reveals the effect of Confucian ancestor worship has on Asian countries and Christians, specifically in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea, which are under the influence of Confucianism, and how Confucian ancestor worship hinders people from receiving and following Jesus Christ and a common barrier to evangelism in these Eastern Asian countries. Chapter three reveals the theological foundations of Confucianism and Christianity. Confucianism has its own specific theologies of worship form, temple, canon, afterlife, and gods like those of Christianity. A comparison with the theological foundations of Confucianism and Christianity is made for a better understanding of Confucian ancestor worship and filial piety. Chapter four reveals the differences between Confucian and biblical teachings on filial piety. Confucian filial piety was taught by Confucius who is a founder of Confucianism, while the origins of biblical filial piety are rooted in the Old and New Testaments. The Bible teaches that filial piety is directed toward living parents, but Confucianism teaches that filial piety is to both living and dead parents; filial piety to the dead parents is ancestor worship. Chapter five reveals the distinctions between Confucian and biblical teachings on ancestor worship. Confucians believe that dead ancestors are able to protect their own families, bring fortunes to their descendants, watch over their own families, and to reward the right and punish the wrong, but the Bible ascribes to ancestor worship as idolatry as taught in the second commandment. Chapter six reveals the ways of practical theological applications of filial piety and ancestor worship. I propose the ways of practical theological applications without compromise in the circumstance of the acceptance of ancestor worship as a custom. Further, I challenge preachers as central to reconciliation how to make an effort to aid the rooting of biblical filial piety into Korean society as a traditional Korean heritage. I hope that this thesis will help non-Christians to understand the Christian perspective of filial piety and ancestor worship and why Christians reject Confucian ancestor worship, and how Christianity emphasizes filial piety.
