Skolbibliotekets funktion : En studie av fyra skolbibliotek 2013

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka och analysera vilken funktion skolbibliotek kan ha i skolorna 2013 i förhållande till skollagen och utifrån frågeställningar där skolbiblioteket analyseras utifrån fyra områden: rummet, medierna och informationssystemet, personalen samt eleverna. Metoderna som används för att genomföra denna studie är kvalitativa. Det innebär att fyra varianter av skolbibliotek undersöktes genom samtalsintervjuer med skolbibliotekspersonal, enkätfrågor till elever i årskurs nio samt enkätfrågor till rektorerna på de aktuella skolorna. Resultaten analyseras och jämförs i förhållande till hur ett skolbibliotek kan definieras. Resultaten visar att det är när områdena ovan är kompletta och sätts samman som skolbiblioteket får den funktion som efterfrågas i skollagen. Studien av de fyra skolbiblioteken visar bristande förståelse för vilka funktioner som bildar ett skolbibliotek och avsaknad av ekonomiska resurser.

Skolebiblioteksforskning : En bibliometrisk undersøkelse / School Library Research : A bibliometric study

The aim of this study was to map the school library research field for the last 20 years.The research questions asked were:1. Which researchers and publications can be identified in the research base of school library research in the time period 1995-2014, and what relations can be identified between them?2. Which researchers and publications can be identified in the research front of school library research in the time period 1995-2014, and what relations can be identified between them?3. Which terms can be identified in school library research in the time period 1995-2014?To answer these questions, a bibliometric study of the research field was done through publications retrieved from the database Web of Science. The metadata of the documents were analyzed in VOSviewer, a software program used to find relations between publications, researchers and subject terms. The research methods used were co-citation analysis, bibliographic coupling and co-word analysis.The results indicate that Lance and Kuhlthau dominate the research base with their publications about information literacy, information searching and school library impact studies. The research front is focused on use of electronic resources, digital media and information literacy. Clyde and Montiell-Overall are the main researchers.

Fristående gymnasieskolor och skolbibliotek : En kvalitativ studie av fristående gymnasieskolors inställning till skolbiblioteksservice och undervisning i informationssökning

The purpose with this study is to examine what kind of support there is for school libraries at the selected independent upper secondary schools and how these schools ensure that libraryservices is available to their students and their teachers. The purpose is also to examine what attitudes the administrators of the schools have to school libraries and teaching in information seeking. A qualitative method with interviews was used to fulfil the purpose. As a theoretical basis of the study Loertschers taxonomies of the school library media program and Limbergs three levels of pedagogic research were used and the interviews were analysed with these two theoretical frameworks as a background. The result of the study showed that neither one of the three examinated schools has a school library which means that they use the public library instead. The problematic area is the lack of rules within the school library field and the fact that the independent schools do not show any interest of cooperating with the public library. The conclusion is probably to make an agreement between the schools and the public library and to make the administrators literate about the positive effects which come out of a well provided school library.

Skolbibliotek och informationssökning : En kvalitativ studie av skolbibliotekets roll vid undervisning i informationssökning

Föreliggande studie syftar till att undersöka hur skolbibliotekarier medverkar i och upplever undervisningen i informationssökning för elever i grundskolans tidigare år, samt samarbetet mellan skolbibliotekarie och lärare vad gäller ovannämnda område. Studiens frågeställningar belyses med hjälp av teoretiska begrepp knutna till det sociokulturella perspektivet och riktar uppmärksamheten mot hur användandet av språkliga och fysiska artefakter i förhållande till lärprocessen upplevs och förstås i olika sociala praktiker. Den metod som använts är kvalitativa samtalsintervjuer som har genomförts på fyra olika skolor med fem medverkande skolbibliotekarier samt en skolbibliotekskonsulent. Intervjuernas längd varierade mellan 30-60 minuter och samtliga har dokumenterats med hjälp av ljudinspelningar. Resultatet visar att skolbibliotekariernas upplevelser av undervisning i informationssökning är beroende av de förväntningar, eller brist på förväntningar som finns i omgivningen. Samarbetet mellan skolbibliotekarie och lärare påverkas av omgivningens attityder till skolbibliotekets roll på skolan. Inställningen till skolbibliotekets roll påverkar också de resurser som tilldelas skolbiblioteket i form av exempelvis tid och personal och på så vis även vilka förutsättningar som finns för undervisning i informationssökning. Med hjälp av det sociokulturella perspektivets teoretiska begrepp påverkar alltså olika sociala praktikers förståelse av skolbibliotek och informationssökning som artefakter vilka möjligheter som ges till användning/mediering av dessa. De skilda uppfattningarna påverkar följaktligen även möjligheten att utveckla ett samarbete mellan lärare och skolbibliotekarie. Resultatet av studien visar även att skolbibliotekarierna ser på undervisning i informationssökning som en progression. Den så kallade bibliotekskunskapen med fokus på det specifika bibliotekets uppbyggnad ses som en grund och kritiskt tänkande, värderande och så vidare som en progression.

Skolbibliotekariers samarbete med pedagoger för att gynna elevers läslust och läsförståelse : en intervjustudie

Detta arbete handlar om skolbiblioteken som pedagogisk resurs för pedagoger och elever. Forskningsbakgrunden går igenom skolbibliotekets historia, internationell och nationell forskning, gällande styrdokument och lagar, resurser i skolbibliotek och några exempel på skolbibliotekssatsningar. Arbetet innehåller avslutningsvis en intervjustudie med beskrivningar från verksamma skolbibliotekarier om hur de samarbetar med pedagogerna. Vårt syfte med undersökningen är att utforska skolbibliotekariers möjlighet till samarbete med pedagoger för att utveckla elevers läsning. Vi har gjort fyra kvalitativa intervjuer med verksamma och fackutbildade skolbibliotekarier. Samtliga skolbibliotekarier arbetar på en F-9 skola och i samma kommun. Resultatet är en beskrivning av hur skolbibliotekarierna upplever sitt samarbete med pedagoger för att öka elevers läslust och läsförståelse. Arbetet innehåller även råd från respondenterna till verksamma pedagoger på hur de kan upprätta ett samarbete med skolbibliotekarien. Vår slutsats är att det finns en brist i rådande lagar som rör skolbiblioteken och att detta orsakar stora skillnader i vad skolbiblioteken erbjuder för resurser. Sammanfattningsvis kan vi se att respondenterna ger likartade svar angående bristen på styrning uppifrån och de ger även likartade beskrivningar av sitt samarbete med pedagoger i form av bokattaker, gruppläsning, matchning av litteratur till både elever och pedagogers undervisning.

The aim of this Bachelor´s thesis is to deepen our understanding of the high school librarian’s work, role and relations to teachers and management. Research questions concern how high school librarians prioritize work assignments and for what reasons, as well as how they regard their occupational role. Issues of integration in the educational activities of the school as well as obstacles and possibilities in relation to teachers and management are investigated. Five semi-structured interviews with high school librarians from different school contexts were conducted. The theoretical framework is based on the idea of the sociology of knowledge together with Loertcher’s Library Media Specialist´s Taxonomy. The results show librarians strive to prioritize pedagogical activities. Their pedagogical role in schools is not static but is developed by some of the librarians. Pedagogical work depended mainly on individual initiatives, with one exception. Possibilities for developing cooperation were found to exist in all the schools. Obstacles identified, though rare, were some teachers’ tendencies to work individually and the lack of opportunity to prioritize pedagogical work as administration consumed their time. Further obstacles were school managers tendencies to rely on the school librarians for initiatives and that only one school used meetings for regular pedagogic discussions.

Skolbiblioteket som centrum för lärande –En studie i en lagstiftnings implementering

The aim of this Bachelor’s thesis is to further knowledge of how the amendment to the Swedish education act relating to access to school libraries has been implemented. The studys’ starting point has been the idea that the act has had an impact on the development of school libraries. The research questions guiding the study were: In what ways do principals actively strive to ensure that school pupils have access to a school library? What opportunities and obstacles emerge in the implementation of the amendment? How do principals view school libraries? To carry out this study an online survey was created and sent to a number of pre-selected school principals. The results were analyzed using implementation theory. According to the results all but one of the investigated schools have access to a library according to their principals’ definitions of access. However, these libraries are not similar to each other and are not used in the same ways. This awakens the issue of how the amendment to the act is interpreted and how the concept of the school library is understood.

The case study is based on a school library called Sunnerbogymnasiet which is situated in Ljungby. My questions are;- Which methods are parts of the process to computerize a library?- Which methods are used in the process in Sunnerbogymnasiet?- What does the practical process look like compared to the methods described in theory?In the paper I present the methods in the process according to the studied literature and compare these with a process at Sunnerbogymnasiet. The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to discuss marketing as it applies to some school libraries. Today’s marketing is about relations. It involves the establishment, maintenance and development of relations with users, non-users and other library related relationships. By looking at how a number of school librarians do and describe their marketing activities I want to find out what they have for ideas, opportunities and limitations. By highlighting their actions and perceptions, I want to try to understand the marketing position of the school library in the school world and discuss the results with the help of Kotler’s Strategic Marketing Planning Process (SMPP) and Elliott de Sáez applications of Kotler’s theories in the library field. My empirical data consists of seven qualitative semi-structured interviews with school librarians working on seven different schools. The survey shows that all librarians share a positive view of marketing. It also shows that School libraries weak¬nesses are time and staffing shortages. Personnel, continuity and knowledge of the users are on the other side considered to be one of the school library's strengths. The marketing methods used by school libraries are the mouth to mouth method and expositions. The study points out that the librarians don’t have the proper skills in marketing. My conclusion is that Strategic Marketing Planning Process could be a useful strategy for marketing school libraries.
