This thesis is concerned with the transition of radio as a medium and its significance for listeners in Finland. It is based on an analysis of radio listening data collected in 1993 and 1999. The main focus is on everyday uses and meanings of radio listening. The major conclusions are as follows: 1 The transition of modern radio at a technical, institutional and programming 2 3 4 level has been reflected in the geographical, textual and technological . mobility of radio. The meaning of geographical mobility to the listener is in changing listening situations during a day, which makes listening a plural concept. Individual differences in listening are seen in three listening profiles, i.e. the enthusiast, the selective and the indifferent listeners. The meaning of textual mobility to the listener lies in the contextuality of listening: texts have different meanings in different listening situations. The meaning of technological mobility to the listener lies in the individuality of different media. Within radio high channel loyalty makes for low technological mobility. However, listeners show much mobility between different media in their daily routines. Radio is distinctive compared to other media in that it has been replaced by television. Recordings have fragmented listening in households and the print media are competing for listeners' time. Overall, the mobility of radio in everyday life is a highly complex concept, meaning different things to different listeners. Although radio is regarded as an invisible and secondary media, it occupies a special socio-technical space in listeners'· everyday life. Changes in media scenery and the integration of digital radio technology with other media means that listening is set to become even more mobile in the future

Essa dissertação analisa o movimento de transformação do conjunto arquitetônico da antiga Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana - em Sorocaba - resultado de um movimento de perda de prestígio na dinâmica dos transportes, por um lado, e de valorização como suporte da memória, por outro. Esse complexo ferroviário, fruto do ideário de desenvolvimento e progresso da segunda metade do século XIX, é composto por aproximadamente quarenta construções e que incluiu oficinas, escola, depósito, barracões, armazéns, centro recreativo etc. Ocupa uma área total de 199.000m2 numa região bem localizada, urbanizada e valorizada da cidade. Ao longo do tempo, a maior parte de suas edificações perderam suas funções originais, ganharam novos usos sociais e, recentemente, a maior parte do conjunto foi tombado como patrimônio. This railway complex, which was the fruit of the development and progress of the second half of the 19th century, consists of approximately forty buildings, including workshops, schools, warehouses, sheds, lodgements, recreative centers, etc. It occupies a total area of 199.000 m2, in a well located, urbanized and valued area of the city. Over time, most of its buildings have lost their original functions, gaining new social uses, and recently most of the buildings have been designated as a site of cultural heritage. Looking closely at their social uses and projects for the area and verifying their compatibility with those of a protected site is the central concern of this dissertation

Nous construisons une analyse des dispositifs identitaires contemporains (dont les réseaux socionumériques) sur plusieurs niveaux : au niveau informatique (modèle conceptuel clôturant représentations sociales et sociabilités) ; au niveau microsocial (négociation des singularités subjectives et ancrage des normes sociales) ; au niveau économique (stratégies hégémoniques et partenariat avec les industries culturelles) ; au niveau sociopolitique (expérimentation de postures individuelles sur la base d'expériences affectives et dans un cercle privé rendant possible l'engagement dans les processus délibératifs constituant le sens commun). Pour appréhender ces enjeux, nous avons mis en œuvre une méthodologie immersive et multi-située en compagnie d'une population composée de figures du sujet contemporain : des apprentis en BTS dans le secteur du Tertiaire, soumis à un complexe de contraintes, et engagés au niveau personnel et socioprofessionnel dans divers dispositifs identitaires. Il ressort de ces analyses plusieurs propositions théoriques, dont celle du cadre privatif présenté comme ensemble de contraintes identitaires définies ou négociées par les interactants et resitué au niveau informatique (ingénierie de la vie privée médiatisée), microsocial (veille mutuelle), économique (modèle socioéconomique du salon), sociopolitique (espace anecdotique), et méthodologique (immersion auprès des usagers). / We build an analysis of contemporary identity devices (including social network sites) on several levels: computer (conceptual model ending social representations and sociability), microsocial (negotiating subjective singularities and anchoring social norms), economics (hegemonic strategies and partnerships with cultural industries), socio-political (experimenting individual postures based on emotional experiences in a « private club model » and making it possible to engage in deliberative processes constituting common sense). To understand these issues, we have implemented an immersive and multi-situated methodology located in a population composed of contemporary subject's figures: young apprentices in the Tertiary, subject to complex constraints, and committed personal level, social and professional identity in various devices. It is clear from these analyzes several theoretical proposals, including the « privatory framework » presented as a set of identity constraints defined or negotiated by interactants and situating in Computer Science (engineering publicized privacy), the micro (mutual insight), economic (socioeconomic model of the « private club »), socio-political (anecdotical sphere) and methodological (immersion to users).

Du soulèvement survenu en Birmanie en 2007 aux révoltes qui ont traversé les pays de la Méditerranée en 2011, les usages de la vidéo partagée sur internet n’ont cessé de se développer au cœur des manifestations et des émeutes. À partir d’observations menées sur internet et d’une enquête de terrain en Tunisie, la thèse s’attache à décrire l’évolution des usages de l’image animée sur le temps long du processus révolutionnaire tunisien entre 2008 et 2014, et à questionner la place et le rôle de ces pratiques dans un monde social en ébullition. L’analyse des contenus mais aussi des tensions socio-politiques qui ont présidé et succédé au moment insurrectionnel, suggère que la prise d’images n’est pas seulement une pratique utilitaire et stratégique destinée à sensibiliser ou à produire une information alternative, mais qu’elle sert des objectifs complexes traversés par les enjeux de lutte qui ont animé les différentes périodes. Des premiers usages en période autoritaire aux productions en plan-séquence dans le temps de l’urgence insurrectionnelle, des montages et mises en scènes accompagnant les mobilisations pour la reconnaissance des acteurs de la révolte à ceux réaffirmant les revendications des populations marginalisées, la vidéo partagée s’est affirmée comme le langage vernaculaire de la contestation. / From the Burma uprising in 2007 to the revolutions of the Arab world in 2011, the uses of digital video have continued to grow, from the heart of demonstrations and riots to the internet. Based on observations conducted on the internet and on a field survey in Tunisia, the thesis describe the evolution of moving image uses in the Tunisian revolutionary process between 2008 and 2014, and interrogates the place and role of these practices in a social world in turmoil. Content analysis combined with analysis of the socio-political tensions that led and succeeded the uprising, suggests that taking pictures is not only a strategic utility practice to raise awareness or to produce alternative information, but that it serves complex objectives marked by the struggle issues of the different periods. From the first uses in authoritarian period to the uses during riots weeks, from edited clips for recognition of revolutionary actors to productions for the recognition of marginalized populations, shared videos revealed as the vernacular language of protest.

A partir da compreensão de que, no contexto deste Fórum, as redes de migrantes adotam uma postura contrária à globalização hegemônica e apresentam a pauta da cidadania universal, estruturamos o referencial teórico em três partes, que abordam, respectivamente, a construção da pauta da cidadania universal, as reconfigurações da ideia de território a partir da globalização e as possibilidades abertas a partir das tecnologias e da internet e ainda as migrações como movimento social. Para a investigação empírica sobre os usos da internet, o percurso metodológico é construído a partir da observação de sites que compõem o campo de estudo, pesquisa documental e entrevistas em profundidade com integrantes de redes que participam da proposição do FSMM. A análise busca reconstruir e compreender os usos da internet por estes atores e aponta para dois principais eixos: ao mesmo tempo em que se constitui como o espaço para a articulação das diferentes redes que fazem parte do Fórum, a internet é também um espaço de emissão para dar visibilidade à agenda dos migrantes e difundir discursos contra-hegemônicos. / This research aims to understand the social uses of internet in the proposition of the World Social Forum on Migrations (WSFM), in order to understand the role information and communication technologies play to build a common agenda among social actors related to different territorialities. From the understanding that migrant networks of the Forum are against hegemonic globalization and propose the agenda of universal citizenship, we structure the theoretic discussion in three parts, which comprehends: 1) the construction of the global citizenship agenda, 2) other kinds of comprehension about the idea of territory in global societies and the new possibilities of technologies and internet, and 3) the migrations as a social movement. Methods for empirical investigation are built from the observation of websites, documental research and semi-structured interviews with migrants that take part on the organization of WSFM. The analysis tries to understand the uses of the internet made by these actors. Two categories emerge: at the same time internet becomes a space for the articulation of different networks, it is also conceived as a place for emission, in order to allow the visibility of the migrants agenda and diffuse counterhegemonic discourses.

A pesquisa busca pensar os modos de construção da cidadania e a reconfiguração das identidades culturais e sociabilidades das jovens no marco das fronteiras impostas pela condição de abrigamento na instituição e pelas condições socioeconômicas e o contexto de desigualdades sociais em que as jovens estão inseridas. O referencial teórico utilizado parte dos estudos de recepção, no âmbito dos estudos culturais, utilizando como aportes conceituais as noções de juventude, gênero, cidadania, classe social, identidade, sociabilidade e usos sociais da Internet. A metodologia parte de uma perspectiva etnográfica que abrange a convivência com as jovens no abrigo, a interação direta com as abrigadas na sala de informática e a utilização das técnicas da observação, das entrevistas abertas e das conversas informais. Os principais eixos de análise apontam para a preponderância do consumo da cultura massiva, via Internet, por parte das jovens e para o uso da Internet como meio de entretenimento. Também sinalizam para a constituição de sociabilidades juvenis marcadas pelas questões de gênero e classe e condicionadas pelo tensionamento exclusão-inclusão social e tecnológica e por táticas para contornar o controle institucional que se traduz na limitação e monitoramento do acesso e usos da Internet pela instituição de acolhimento onde se situam as jovens. / The research investigates the communicative interactions of young women in situations of social vulnerability, received care in a childcare institution in the city of Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, seeking to understand the social uses of the Internet in an institutional context of restricted and monitories access of technologies. The research thinks about the ways of citizenship construction and the cultural identities reconfiguration and sociability of young people in the boundaries imposed by the socioeconomic conditions and by the context of social inequalities that young people are inserted. The starting point of theoretical part is the reception studies, within cultural studies, using the concepts of youth, gender, citizenship, social class, identity, sociability and social uses of Internet. The methodology starts from an ethnographic perspective that includes coexistence with youth in the institution, the direct interaction with them in the computer room and use of the techniques of observation, interviews and informal conversations. The main areas of analysis indicate to the preponderance of mass consumer culture, through the Internet, by the young, and for the use of the Internet as an entertainment medium. Also indicate the formation of youth sociability marked by gender and class questions and conditioned by the tension between social and technology exclusion-inclusion and tactics to circumvent the institutional control that be in the limiting and monitoring access to by the uses of the Internet from institution where are the young.

A Internet, como dinamizadora da vivência de estratégias identitárias, está ampliando possibilidades de experimentar modos de ‘ser gaúcho’ com a atualização de disputas que estão na gênese da construção da identidade, ao mesmo tempo em que promove um reordenamento a partir da apropriação de suas possibilidades comunicativas, com a formação de comunidades virtuais e as alterações na relação entre usos e produção. / The research aims the investigation of the relations that occur between the Internet and the Gaucho’s cultural identity, through a study case, from the concept of communication, culture and identity based on cultural studies. The study shall discuss how identity matters go beyond a site called “Página do Gaúcho”, which targets, through emphasis in the tradition, the thematic of the regional culture. The investigation shows the Gaucho’s identity as a mediator to social uses in the Web, at the same time that has another configuration through the media construction using an ethnographical approach joined with methodological procedures such as observation, life experience, productive routine and content analysis. The Internet, as a means of amplifying the experience of identity strategies, is increasing the possibilities of experimenting the ways of “to be gaucho” with the updating of the dispute that is found in the core of the identity. At the same time, it promotes reorganization from the adoption of communicative possibilities, forming virtual communities and changes in relations between uses and production.

Through this 'field study', I tried to capture the representations that individuals make of their bodies in the ' Rio Beach of Pepê ' to confront the reality presented to me on that beach space investigated. With that sought to establish whether there is a social imaginary of the 'body' and how this imagery appears in this space from the beach. / Quando o campo é a 'Praia Carioca do Pepê' e os 'Usos Sociais do Corpo', a forma de 'distinção' em relação às classes sociais na construção da disposição estética, no gosto, consumo, estilo de vida e nos hábitos de classe. Através deste 'estudo de campo', procurei captar as representações que os indivíduos fazem de seus corpos na 'Praia Carioca do Pepê' ao confrontar com a realidade apresentada a mim nesse espaço da praia investigado. Com isso busquei averiguar se existe um imaginário social do 'corpo' e como esse imaginário aparece nesse espaço da praia.
