As desventuras de Os Zeróis: cartuns e charges de Ziraldo, entre intenção e condição (1967-1972) / The misadventures of Os Zeróis: cartoons and caricatures by Ziraldo, between intention and condition

Silva, Marcos Rafael da 02 December 2011 (has links)
This dissertation analyses the iconographic series of cartoons and caricatures under the general title of Os Zéróis by the graphic artist Ziraldo Alves Pinto, between the years 1967 and 1972. As a parody of superheroes from North American comics such as Superman, Batman, Captain America , Os Zérois provides a critical perspective to the ideals and values transmitted by these characters. In this sense, they are located at first, by principle and method, in the historical and political context in which they were designed: the Cold War, as international context, and the civil-military dictatorship, at the national level. With this approach, one intends to understand the strategies used by Ziraldo to remain active even in an adverse scenario considering the censorship of the Military Regime. In the following moment, the analyzis of Ziraldo\'s professional trajectory is started, especially in regard to the production of national comics whose climax was Pererê magazine (1960-1964), reaching the Os Zéróis in 1967 until 1972.

Pereira, Luís Fernando dos Reis 27 May 2010 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Luis Fernando dos Reis Pereira.pdf: 15618526 bytes, checksum: 7c4a48c46f9ef0aaaa328e95ab03933c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-05-27 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This thesis analyzes the fictional narratives of the comics books series Sandman, written by the British author Neil Gaiman, originally published by DC Comics and, in Brazil, by Globo, from 1989 to 1996, noting the translation and appropriation of elements from different cultural contexts for the construction of the narrative, in order to demonstrate that Sandman has a higher tendency to mobility and articulation than the superhero s comic books, which generally emphasize the structures of permanence and isolation. We investigate how the principle of identity, developed by certain core of Western thought is used, as well as different characteristics from other cultural backgrounds, bringing into play concepts such as centrality and periphery, reality/fiction, stability/instability, etc. In support of our journey, we turn to theories about the processes and semiotic systems of culture, exploring and articulating studies of Yuri Lotman, Severo Sarduy, Amálio Pinheiro, Jesus Martín-Barbero and Edgar Morin, while the theories of Scott McCloud and Will Eisner served as basis for studying the recent and still in process language of the "comics" as art and media; we counted, as well, with the major contributions of Bakhtin s theories of novel and literary genres carnavalization, to support aspects of narrative language on the studied comics. The Sandman series, with 75 editions and some special publications, combines aspects of the American superhero comics, mythology, pop culture, literature, religion, paganism, magic, fantasy, gothic horror, historical facts, philosophical references, elements of the classic epic and folklore to tell the story of Dream, also called Oneiros, Morpheus, etc., ruler of the Dreaming, and their complex relations with humanity and other beings, including his siblings Destiny, Death, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium; modern gods and those who have been forgotten; their mortal and immortal lovers; Lucifer and his demons; and even the angels. In the periphery of such a mosaic plot, perverting the classic epic elements, remnants of the drama of a missing hero, unfinished and absurd, unable to remain equal to himself, and who insists in to inhabit different borders: islands between reality and the Dreaming; soft regions where time becomes malleable (local of translations between the familiar and the foreign), and his own kingdom, which is a metaphorical border between life and death. Such arrangements allow the discussion of the signic operating environment proposed by Lotman, the semiosphere, and its mobile/translation borders, a key concept to understanding the trends of permanence and change of the cultural texts Finally, Dream, occasional actor, the personification of the dream itself, questions, over the stories, the objective notions of identity, truth and immutability, as well as we may question, similarly, the principle of identity in self-centered and self-referencing cultures based on binary logic and mainly closed systems that tend to generate several ways of exclusion, through the idea of truth and tolerance, unlike the Sandman s realm environments, linked to Derrida's discussion of the idea of hospitality / A tese analisa as narrativas ficcionais da série de revistas em quadrinhos Sandman, do autor britânico Neil Gaiman, publicadas originalmente nos EUA pela editora estadunidense DC Comics e no Brasil, a princípio, pela editora Globo, entre 1989 e 1996, a partir da tradução e apropriação de elementos provenientes de diferentes contextos culturais para as construções da narrativa, com o objetivo de demonstrar que Sandman apresenta maior tendência à mobilidade e à articulação do que os gibis de super-heróis, que geralmente enfatizam as estruturas de permanência e isolamento.

O super-herói e as presenças do outro

Conter, Rafael January 2015 (has links)
This research establishes connections with the comic book media and the concept of otherness from the standpoint of superhero comic book runs, which is shaped and populated by a limited set of characters and publications from The Avengers of Marvel Now. Such connections bring forth issues of privilege and stereotype, which are built and unfolded into images of presence and absence under the I and the Other. Based on the selected set of characters, there follows a cross-examining of the theories in Scott McCloud, Umberto Eco and Moacy Cirne, to establish the concepts concerning the comic book media language. Moreover, supported by the writings of Gilbert Durand, Jean-Jacques Wunenburger and Ana Taís Martins Portanova Barros, spheres of influence and cooperation are set between the fields of the Imaginary studies and those of the superhero’s image, shaping a view with the tools to capture and widen it. Among these spheres, the theories relating to Durand’s symbolic anthropology are highlighted to put into place new motions to the concept of image. Also key components to the ideas and notions of the I and the Other are the studies of Ella Shohat, Robert Stam and Tzvetan Todorov, which help on the quest for what constitutes their respective presences and absences. The major premise relies on the superhero’s multiplicity of voices, which makes it rich in images of representation, collaboration and conflict over the I and the Other. From it, readings and notions are made and worked with to show and assign a name to such images.

Iuri Andréas Reblin 09 March 2012 (has links)
A theological reading of the superadventure genre from the perspective of the role of narrative in the creation and maintenance of the human world through the approach of its media aspects, its primary conventions and its mythic structure, considered its historical and critical background. The first part recalls the historical trajectory of the superadventure genre from the focus of critics, presenting the arguments of psychia-trist Fredric Wertham, the creation of the comics code and an overview of the current scientific research. The second part discusses the importance of narrative in the cre-ation and maintenance of universes of meaning and the invention of the human be-ing. The narratives are readings of the world that simultaneously express fears, anxi-eties, hopes and senses and suggest how to interpret this world. Then the study pre-sents key issues of comic books as the locus vivendi of the superadventure, the pri-mary conventions that gives to superadventure its raison dêtre and the meanings and implications of its mythical form. The third part introduces the discussion on the theology of daily life and makes a theological reading of two superhero stories: Su-perman: Peace on Earth and Shazam: The Power of Hope. Superadventure be-comes a stage of the theology of daily life, when, by the mythical form, it is an ex-pression of a theological common sense. The research ends by indicating thematic, methodological and ideological approaches between superadventure and theology. Both theology and superadventure deal with the high values for the human being, the mythic structure and the human faculty of conceiving the ideal and adding it to the real.

Want to be a real hero ?: uma análise sistêmico-funcional de anúncios em revistas em quadrinhos de super-heróis

Silva, Jordão Joanes Dantas da 31 March 2011 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-05-14T12:42:32Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 parte1.pdf: 1781021 bytes, checksum: 6e0eff9b5d58f2121a4fccb415053193 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-03-31 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Although North American super-heroes such as Spider-Man and Captain America are originally associated with comic books, it has been very common to see them in other mass media, such as films, video games, cartoons and advertising. With regard to advertisements, which are closely related to a society in which consuming has been defining the human behaviour, these heroic characters are remarkably used in the offering of products and services. Considering that, with a focus on seven advertisements from the comic book The Amazing Spider-Man, this thesis aims at identifying the recurrent advertising strategies, pointing out the verbal and visual choices used in their realizations and discussing possible implications of the advertisements for the delineation of a consuming society. The data analysis follows Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY, 1978), with attention to the transitivity system (HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2004) and the representational metafunction (KRESS; van LEEUWEN, 2006). Following this theoretical framework, as well as discussions about consumer society, advertising and super-heroes, it is still created a systemic network with sociosemantic options (HALLIDAY, 2003d; van LEEUWEN, 2005) which are crucial for the identification of advertising strategies and their related linguistic realizations. The findings express three main groups of strategies: Desire for Power, Product/Service Presentation and Necessity. Concerning linguistic aspects, there is a preference for material processes, with the super-heroes (in visual structures) and the addressee (in verbal clauses) mainly represented in the role of Actors. Giving prominence to the system Desire for Power, the advertisements present the product/service as a mediator between the real world of the advertisement addressee and the fictional world of the comic book super-heroes.

Oliveira, Luísa de 11 May 2007 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T20:39:29Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 luisa.pdf: 419235 bytes, checksum: eafeb45127c76780927c176a14608150 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007-05-11 / The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the symbolical trajectory of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, a character created by Joss Whedon in the 1990s. The show which tells Buffy s story consists of 144 episodes, which where considered a ratings phenomenon in many countries. In order to reach this objective, all 144 episodes were watched and schematized in summaries, which made it possible to identify and discriminate significant events, images and sequences in the composition of Buffy and her journey. The themes that seemed to be relevant at this point were closely related to the hero s archetype, which is the motivator of the process of the development of consciousness. Therefore, the analysis is based on C. G. Jung s concepts of analytical psychology and on Joseph Campbell s study of the heroic cycle. Buffy is regarded as a contemporary image of the hero s archetype. Throughout her journey, she was faced with seven challenges of growing complexity, which called for deep transformation and encompassed the formation of the persona, the withdrawal of projections, and the process of making aspects of shadow and animus conscious and integrated. Her trajectory is crowned with the possibility of transforming herself as well as her surroundings. In the first six confrontations, Buffy finds a way to save the world, but in the last (the seventh), she transforms it.

Cesar, Daisy da Silva January 2011 (has links)
We point out in Fantomas contra los vampiros multinacionales, by Julio Cortázar, the aspects relating to art and literature. We should call the attention to the presence of comics as a constituent part of this work, which together with illustrations of various natures, and the presence of discourse which belongs to other spheres of human areas, give the text the status of hybrid. From this, this study aims to study the importance of words and images, and their overlapping, for the construction of the heterogeneous sense of the text, and make a comparison between different versions of the work in print and electronically, considering the differences between their versions. A literary view on Fantomas, especially through an intertextual and interdisciplinary approach, allows us to reflect on the various aspects of the character Fantomas along the publications and media, beyond the presence of fantastic surreal, autobiographical and metafictional elements. In this study, we intend to show that the hybrid, both in formal and in discursive terms, proves to be representative of the heterogeneity of Latin America, considering their cultural formation and the linguistic and literary diversity of expression that features Latin America.
