Under sjökaptensutbildningen ska teoretiska studier varvas med fartygsförlagdutbildning. Detta görs för att utöver skolans teori få känna på verkligheten och att ipraktiken ta till sig de kunskaper som behövs för att efter examen vara vakthavandebefäl ombord. Under den fartygsförlagda praktiken ska eleven bli lotsad av enhandledare som guidar och hjälper för att tiden ombord skall bli så effektiv och givandesom möjligt. Vi ville undersöka hur elever upplever handledarskapet ombord med fokuspå om det eventuellt är några skillnader beroende på vilken praktikperiod eleven befannsig i. Detta gjordes med hjälp av en kvalitativ metod genom fokusgrupper med syfte attfå utförliga och ingående svar. Det framkom vissa skillnader mellan den tredjepraktikperioden kontra de andra två sett till vilka arbetsuppgifter man fick göra samt hurbesättningen såg på eleven i form av förväntade kunskaper och vilket fritt ansvar somgavs eleven. Dock blev det tydligt att en god relation till sin handledare, oavsett vilkenpraktikperiod eleven befann sig i, var av väsentlighet för en lyckad praktik. Eventuellinverkan i handledarskapet beroende på kön och ålder hos handledaren var också någotvi ville undersöka. Kvinnliga handledare visade sig vara något mer sympatiska men denstörsta skillnaden fanns beroende på vilken ålder handledaren hade. En yngrehandledare ansågs generellt som mer uppskattad då denne hade ett större engagemangoch en större vilja att lära ut. / During their time at the “captain’s program”, students alternate theoretical studies with practical experience aboard ships. This combination aims to give them a taste of real-world situations alongside classroom learning, helping them develop the skills they need to be in charge on a ship after graduation. During their time at sea, students areguided by mentors who help them make the most of their experience onboard. Wewanted to investigate how students feel about this mentorship, particularly if it differsdepending on which stage of practical training, they're in. We used a qualitative methodusing focus groups to get detailed and thorough answers. We noticed some differencesbetween the third training period and the earlier ones, like the tasks students were givenand how they were viewed by the crew. But what mattered most was having a goodrelationship with their mentor, no matter at what stage they were in their teaching. Wealso investigated whether the mentor's gender and age had any impact on their teaching.Female mentors were seen as a bit more sympathetic, but the biggest difference wasage. Younger mentors were generally more appreciated because they were moreengaged and eager to teach.

Text in Afrikaans, abstract in Afrikaans and English / The development of leadership potential in adolescents cannot be approached in a haphazard manner.
It ought to occur on the basis of a dynamic development model within a structured space. Such a
model should not only prepare adolescents for their current leadership role, but also, and more
particularly, its very nature should be more career-oriented. The question of what model will strive
to equip adolescents with greater entrepreneurially-orientated leadership knowledge, therefore
justifiably calls for closer investigation.
In this study, an attempt has been made to find a suitable model to meet these needs. With this in
mind, a study of the literature on the phenomenon of successful leadership was undertaken. Various
relevant aspects that incorporate organisationally-structured management, were also examined. This
enabled the researcher to develop a practice-oriented model from a study of the literature. In the
implementation of the research design, use was made of qualitative research methods and techniques
in order to collect and analyse relevant data. The study entailed 'action research' in which two
independant groups were involved. For this purpose, the research results of the second cycle were
concentrated on in order to reach findings and draw conclusions, and to make recommendations. This
research ultimately revealed that adolescents have a deep need for entrepreneurially-oriented leadership
development content. Individual participants also derived significant benefits from the implementation
of the model.
Owing to the success achieved with this research study, the management team of the school involved
has decided to establish a full-time entrepreneurship centre for its pupils. This study can therefore be
regarded as a contribution towards meeting the need for similar models in South African schools, in
a practical and viable way. / Die ontwikkeling van adolessente se leierspotensiaal is nie iets wat lukraak aangepak kan word nie.
Dit behoort aan die hand van 'n dinamiese ontwikkelingsmodel binne 'n gestruktureerde ruimte te
geskied. Sodanige model behoort adolessente nie alleen vir hul huidige leierskaprol voor te berei nie,
maar behoort in besonder ook 'n meer beroepsgerigte karakter te openbaar. Daar kan dus tereg gevra
word hoe die model behoort te lyk wat daarna streef om adolessente met groter entrepreneursgerigte
leierskapskennis toe te rus.
In hierdie studie is gepoog om vas te stel of 'n geskikte model gevind kan word wat aan bogenoemde
behoefte voldoen. Met die oog hierop, is 'n literatuurstudie oor die verskynsel van suksesvolle
leierskap onderneem. Daarbenewens is verskeie toepaslike aspekte waarbinne die bestuurswese hom
in 'n organisatoriese struktuur vergestalt, ook van nader beskou. Dit het die navorser in staat gestel
om 'n praktykgerigte model vanuit 'n literatuurstudie te ontwikkel. Tydens die implementering van die navorsingsontwerp, is van kwalitatiewe navorsingsmetodes en -tegnieke gebruik gemaak om
relevante data in te samel en te analiseer. Die studie het voorts die vorm van aksienavorsing
aangeneem waarby twee onafhanklike groepe betrek is. Vir die doeleindes is daar op die
navorsingsresultate van die tweede siklus gekonsentreer om bevindinge, gevolgtrekkings en
aanbevelings te maak. Hierdie navorsing het uiteindelik getoon dat adolessente 'n groot behoefte aan
entrepreneursgerigte leierontwikkelingsinhoude toon, terwyl individuele deelnemers baie baat by die
implementering van sodanige model gevind het.
Op grond van die sukses wat met hierdie navorsingstudie behaal is, het die bestuurspan van die
betrokke skool besluit om 'n voltydse entrepreneurskapsentrum vir sy leerlinge tot stand te bring.
Hierdie studie kan derhalwe beskou word as 'n bydrae om die behoefte aan soortgelyke modelle in

This thesis investigates whether beliefs acquired by way of prophecy are safe. By ‘prophecy’ I have in mind the presentation of the prophetic method as found in the Guide of the Perplexed, which was Moses Maimonides’ philosophical masterpiece. And by ‘safe’ I have in mind the work by Timothy Williamson on the safety condition for knowledge. Both authors have proven to be dominant forces on these respective topics. The significance of this investigation derives from the centrality of prophecy to the three monotheistic religions. My main goal in this thesis is to identify those safety risks associated with the prophetic method. In this manner I aim to undermine any presumption in favor of prophetic beliefs as a whole being safe. Importantly, this general conclusion does not entail of a specific prophetic belief p that p is unsafe. Additionally, the scope of these results is restricted to the model of prophecy found in the Guide. The thesis begins with a critical elucidation of Williamson’s extensive work on the safety condition for knowledge. Particular attention is paid to those issues related to method individuation and Williamson’s cumulative conception of bases. Matters concerning these two topics inform the reading of Maimonides on prophecy found in the second chapter. In particular, I argue that Maimonides should be read as defending a cumulative conception of prophecy. As I emphasize several times during the chapter, the epistemology of prophecy cannot be reduced to the epistemology of testimony since prophecy for Maimonides does not involve the transfer of a proposition from God to the prophet. The third chapter is devoted to identifying those elements of the prophetic method that involve room for error. I argue that while all belief-forming methods in a fallibilist epistemology contain room for error, some are riskier than others. Prophecy should be considered one of the riskier sort. The fourth and final chapter shifts attention to non-standard semantics for ‘knows,’ David Lewis’s in particular. I argue that the interaction between such semantics and the laws governing prophecy in Jewish law is problematic. In particular, I demonstrate that such semantics destabilize the prophetic phenomenon. As such, we must either choose invariantism and gain stability, or choose non-standard semantics for ‘knows’ and live with this lack of stability.

lters by cascading a wide stop-band wa e-iron lter with an absorptive harmonic
pad.
The classical image impedance synthesis methods for wa e-iron lters are updated to
allow for non-uniform boss patterns, which enable control over both the stop-band attenuation
and pass-band re
ection of the lter. By optimising an accurate circuit model
equivalent, computationally intensive numerical EM optimisation are avoided. The nonuniform
wa e-iron lter achieves the same electrical speci cation as similar lters in
literature, but in a smaller form factor. The prototype presented displays less than -21
dB in-band re
ection over 8.5 - 10.5 GHz, with stop-band attenuation in excess of 50 dB
over the harmonic bands 17 - 31.5 GHz and 30 dB over the 34 - 42 GHz. The prototype is
designed to handling 4 kW peak power incident in the transmitted band, and is 130 mm in
length. Minimal full-wave tuning is required post-synthesis, and good agreement is found
between synthesised and measured responses. Additionally, a completely novel oblique
wa e-iron boss pattern is proposed.
For the absorptive harmonic pad, transversal broadwall slots in rectangular waveguide,
coupling to an absorptive auxiliary guide, are investigated in the presence of standing
wave surface current distributions. An accurate circuit model description of the cascaded
structure is developed, and optimised to provide a required level of input match in the
presence of an arbitrary re
ective lter. Using numerical port parameter data of the wa eiron
lter, a harmonic pad is developed that provides -12.5 dB input re
ection match
across the band 17 - 21 GHz with up to 1 kW peak incident power handling capability,
yet is only 33 mm in length. Again, good agreement is found between synthesised and
measured responses of the cascaded structure. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie proefskrif stel 'n sintesetegniek voor vir wyeband, ho edrywing absorberende mikrogol

Leurs propriétés de photoluminescence ont été étudiées en fonction de la composition. La formation d'agglomérats de Nd2O3 aux fortes concentrations en Nd3+ diminue la PL. l'influence de la temperature et de la composition sur les chronogrammes de temps de vie des ions Nd3+ a ete etudiee. On a démontre l'existence de deux temps de vie. La composante rapide a été attribuée aux agglomérats de Nd2O3 et la composante lente aux ions Nd3+ libres.

Syfte: Syftet var att belysa BHV-sjuksköterskans upplevelse av att bemöta och vägleda föräldrar som är tveksamma till vaccination. Metod: En empirisk intervjustudie med kvalitativ ansats genomfördes. Studien baserades på semistrukturerade intervjuer med sex BHV-sjuksköterskor. Analysen utfördes i form av manifest innehållsanalys. Resultat: Resultatet bildade fyra huvudkategorier: Vägleda genom att guida och informera, Förutsättningar för att vägleda, Förhållningssätt för ett gott bemötande och BHV-sjuksköterskans upplevelser av att bemöta tveksamma föräldrar samt 13 underkategorier. Huvudresultaten visade att BHV-sjuksköterskans sätt att vägleda tveksamma föräldrar var ganska lika, men även olikheter fanns. Att informera om vaccination upplevdes som nyckeln för att vägleda föräldrarna på bästa sätt. Det var av vikt att informationen individanpassades och att föräldrarna vägleddes att ta ett genomtänkt beslut efter diskussion om risker i jämförelse med nyttan av vaccination. Förutsättningar för att kunna vägleda på ett bra sätt var tid, kunskap och stöd. BHV-sjuksköterskan eftersträvade en god relation med föräldrarna utifrån genuin omtanke och respekt för föräldrarnas beslut. BHV-sjuksköterskan upplevde ändå känslor i bemötandet som frustration, oro, nervositet och att bemötandet kunde kännas besvärligt. Det kunde även upplevas svårt att bemöta tveksamhet men det varierade med föräldrarnas inställning. Slutsats: BHV-sjuksköterskan kan genom att individanpassa vägledningen och bemöta tveksamma föräldrar med omtanke och respekt öka möjligheten att tveksamma föräldrar väljer att vaccinera sitt barn. / Aim: The aim of the study was to highlight the child health care nurse’s experience of responding and guiding vaccine hesitant parents. Method: An empirical interview study with a qualitative approach was carried out. The study was based on semi-structured interviews with six child health care nurses. The analysis was formed as a manifest content analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in four main categories: Guiding by informing, Requirements to guide, Approaches to respond in a good way and The Child Health Care Nurse’s experiences of responding hesitant parents as well as thirteen subcategories. The main results showed that child health care nurse’s ways of guiding hesitant parents were quite similar to each other, but differences also occured. The key to guiding parents was to inform them about vaccination. It was important to individualize the information and guide after discussion about risks versus benefits and that parents were guided to take a considered decision. Conditions to guide parents in a good way was time, knowledge and support. The child health care nurse sought a good relationship with the parents through genuine consideration and respect for the decision that the parents made. The child health care nurse experienced emotions such as frustration, anxiety, nervousness, and that responding could feel awkward. It could even be difficult to responding hesitant parents, but that varied with the parent’s attitude. Conclusion: The child health care nurse can increase the possibility that parents may choose to vaccinate their child, through individualized guidance and responding hesitant parents in consideration and respect.

Many organizations are replacing portions of their traditional phone systems to gain the benefits of cost savings and enhanced feature sets through the use of IPT. The Coast Guard has an interest in exploiting this technology, and has taken its first steps by implementing IPT at Headquarters Support Command in Washington D.C. This thesis investigates the successful implementation practices and security policies of commercial, educational, and government organizations in order to create recommendations for IPT security policies and implementation practices relevant to the Coast Guard. It includes the discussion of the public switched telephone network, an overview of IPT, IPT security issues, the safeguards available to counter security threats, the tradeoffs (e.g., voice quality, cost) required to mitigate security risks, and current IPT security policy and implementation guidance. It is supported by the study and analysis of the IPT system at Coast Guard Headquarters.
