PHP Framework Performance for Web Development / PHP Ramverk Prestanda för Webbutveckling

Nylén, Håkan January 2012 (has links)
[Context] PHP Frameworks, such as CakePHP and Codei- gniter, have become popular among developers, since they offer ease of development save time and provide already made libraries to use. Considering that more and more websites are built using these frameworks it is important to know how they impact the performance of the website. Comparing the two top frameworks with each other can shed some light on what the performance looks like today on the web with PHP as its base. [Problem] Visitors nowadays have less patience to wait for a website to load. Meanwhile, PHP Framework has become known among developers, but the part of the performance that reduces the load time even more so visitors can surf without any problems, is missing. Therefore, it is a good idea to try to discover how the performance of the PHP Framework can change and improve the visitor experience. [Con- tribution] In this paper is a description of one of the first performance experiments on PHP Frameworks. It can help people make the right de- cision regarding PHP Framework in the future. The lack of data in this area is also one of the decisions to make this paper as well.

ESTRATÉGIAS MIDIÁTICAS EM SITES DE ORGANIZAÇÕES PRIVADAS: a busca pela visibilidade da responsabilidade social organizacional / MEDIA STRATEGIES IN PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS WEBSITES: the quest for the visibility of the corporate social responsibility

Sgorla, Fabiane 04 March 2009 (has links)
Over history, the technological development, observed mainly from the nineties onwards, has made possible for private organisations to expose a variety of organizational information through media spaces such as television, newspaper and radio visibility which became known as media visibility. In the present days, Internet and Web facilities, such as the possibility of building organizational Websites, have played an important role in widening the media visibility from these organizations by operationalizing several media strategies. For bearing humanistic, solidarian and environmental concerns usually valued by the audience the information regarding corporate social responsibility has become more and more visible in organizational Websites. Within this reasoning in mind, this research study aims to reflect on the media visibility of organizational social responsibility in private organizations Websites. The empirical corpus was formed by 44 private organizations with headquarters in Rio Grande do Sul State, manufacturing and commercializing shoes and associated to the Brazilian Association of Shoes Industry (Associação Brasileira de Indústrias de Calçados - Abicalçados). The specifics research objectives were: to discover if the selected organizations have Websites; to examine whether the information concerning social responsibility are shown in these Websites; to verify if the expressions social responsibility , environmental responsibility and/or social and environmental responsibility combined together are used in these Websites; to identify and analyze the main strategies for presenting the information concerning social responsibility in the Websites of the studied organizations. The empirical analysis had mainly a qualitative approach in which the descriptive and interpretative method was used. The collecting method comprehended the observation of the Websites from the selected organization. The analysis of the data happened simultaneously to its collection. The main results show that 86% of the organizations, in other words, thirty eight (38) of them have organizational Websites. Within these thirty eight (38) Websites, 42% display information regarding social responsibility and 32% make use of the expressions social responsibility and/or environmental responsibility . The presentation strategies of this information in the Websites were related to seven (7) categories: Company, Social Responsibility, Environmental Responsibility, News, Sponsorship, Support and Activities e Social Report.

Planning, creating, and evaluating eMuseums: a step by step handbook for museum professionals

Baillargeon, Tara Jean January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Education / Department of Educational Leadership / Gerald D. Bailey / The purpose of this study was to create a handbook that would support museum professionals through the stages of planning, creating, and evaluating a user-centered eMuseum. Planning, Creating, and Evaluating eMuseums: A Step by Step Handbook for Museum Professionals was developed using the research and development methodology (R&D) developed by Borg and Gall (1989). The seven steps in the R&D cycle used in this study included: 1) research analysis and proof of concept, 2) product planning and design, 3) preliminary product development, 4) preliminary field testing, 5) revision of the prototype, 6) main field testing, and 7) revision of the final product. A prototype of the handbook was developed and then evaluated by experts in digital libraries or museum informatics in the preliminary field test. Revisions were made to the handbook based on their feedback. The handbook was then distributed to museum professionals for the main field test. Feedback from the main field test was used to create the final product. Major conclusions from the study were: 1. There was a need for a handbook to guide museum professionals through the steps of developing an eMuseum. Museum leaders indicated a desire to create a stronger online presence for their museums, but did not know how to begin the process. 2.The handbook was most useful to museum professionals. Originally, the handbook was intended for an audience broadly defined as "information professionals", which included both library and museum professionals. 3.Museum leaders and community stakeholders could partner to create eMuseums. Stakeholders included educators who wanted to use eMuseums to incorporate standards-based curriculum into their classroom or graduate students in education looking for collaborative projects to advance their study. 4.Finding new ways to reach audiences was important to museum leaders. Museum leaders were aware that the majority of their visitors expected to find information about their museum on the Internet and wanted to find ways to reach these audience members. 5.Museum professionals found resources listed in the book to be useful. The handbook worked effectively as a reference guide for creating an eMuseum.

Into the black box of Knowledge Intensive Business Services : understanding the knowledge bases, innovation and competitiveness of KIBS

Pina, Katia Oliveira January 2016 (has links)
This dissertation focuses on Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS). It aims to understand what these businesses are and to examine variety among them. In seeking to understand their diversity, I focus especially on the ‘knowledge bases’ at the core of their activities. The dissertation is based on three complementary studies. The first is a systematic review of the literature on KIBS. This is based primarily on a review of 130 carefully selected, relevant articles, and focuses on three questions: how are KIBS defined? how do KIBS compete? and how do KIBS innovate? The review shows that: (i) the literature is fragmented; most research does not build substantially on previous methods or findings; and (ii) while evidently heterogeneous, most of the literature has overlooked variety among KIBS. I also highlight what still needs to be known about KIBS.The second and third papers then focus on variety among KIBS, by classifying them according to their ‘knowledge bases’. In the first of these papers, I classify KIBS according to their primary knowledge bases, following the SAS Model, which identifies three: ‘analytical knowledge’, ‘synthetic knowledge’ and ‘symbolic knowledge’. Firms in three KIBS sectors: ‘architecture and engineering consultancy’; ‘specialist design’; and ‘computer and IT services’ are classified by their primary knowledge base according to information drawn from company websites. I then relate this classification to firm behaviour with respect to innovation, finding differences by primary knowledge base in the nature of the investments firms make to innovate, and in their propensities to innovate. In the second of the papers which relates ‘knowledge bases’ to KIBS, I develop the ‘knowledge bases’ approach conceptually, methodologically and empirically. Conceptually, I identify a hitherto unrecognised knowledge base: ‘compliance knowledge’. This relates to the knowledge of, and to interpretations of, laws and regulations. This knowledge base does not fit with any of the existing SAS types. Methodologically, I extract fuller information from company websites, and develop more sophisticated approaches to measurement, which allows multiple knowledge bases to be present in any one firm. Empirically, I successfully identify ‘compliance knowledge’, alongside ‘analytical’ and ‘symbolic knowledge’. I show that these are unevenly distributed across KIBS industries, including ‘advertising and design’, ‘architecture’, ‘engineering consultancy’ and ‘market research’, but importantly there is no one-to-one mapping between knowledge bases and industries. I discuss the implications of this, including for understanding the diversification of KIBS. This dissertation therefore contributes conceptually, methodologically and empirically to both understanding variety among KIBS and to the ‘knowledge bases’ literature.

Plataforma web de búsqueda de prácticas preprofesionales

Cardenas Gallo, Arthur Alfredo, Cavero Ramírez, César Iván, Cuadros Quinto, Victor Alejandro, Morales Chavez, Carlos Josue, Paz León, Daniel Alejandro 08 July 2021 (has links)
The development of pre-professional internships is of utmost necessity in the university environment because it allows young students to develop their knowledge and skills in a purely work and business environment, the different knowledge acquired in their formative years in both Universities and Technical Institutes. However, during the last years many companies have raised the requirements to hire an intern such as having previous experience, availability more than the hours required for an intern, etc. Because of this, many students have difficulties in obtaining internships due to lack of experience and conflicts with their university schedules. Professional unemployment and underemployment are problems that afflict thousands of young Peruvians and their incidence is generally attributed to a mismatch between labor demand and supply. In addition, the lack of information resources that young people have when it comes to finding internships such as job offer websites, job announcements made by companies or simply that their own house of study does not offer them tools to find work such as a "job bank". Finally, as mentioned above, our next business project is aimed at university and technical institute students who have problems finding internships and offer them a solution through a platform aimed especially at this group of young people where they will find different tools that will help them find their first internships quickly and easily. / Trabajo de investigación

All-inclusive hotels’ packaging of the northern coast of Jamaica: creating and maintaining an environmental bubble

Eriksson, Victoria January 2020 (has links)
This study contributes to the existing discussion about international tourism by exploring the role of all-inclusive hotels in the creation of an environmental bubble on the northern coast of Jamaica. Moreover, it examines what type of Jamaica is being sold by the hotels and who is included and who is excluded from the environmental bubble. The purpose of this study is to analyze how all-inclusive hotels on the northern coast of Jamaica are selling their travel packages. In order to do that, this study makes a qualitative media analysis of digital website advertisement from all-inclusive hotel’s websites. Social scientists agree that one characteristic of all-inclusive type of tourism is the separation between guest and host. I argue that the website advertisements by all-inclusive hotels are contributing to this separation.

Lanatta Muñoz, Rodrigo 05 December 2020 (has links)
Since the creation of the World Wide Web in the 1990, things have change dramatically for the news media. Every single outlet needed a web page, to the point that Internet is the main source to read news in the World today. Moreover, the creation of social media started the democratization of the news environment, a new one where everybody could be a journalist. The published newspaper is in dire straits, the profession questioned, sources of income -like advertising- are no longer secure. Even worse, the covid-19 pandemic has taken all this to the extreme. Therefore, thousands of media sources have closed, and the use of Artificial Intelligence is taking the jobs of the average journalist. This situation has been addressed with creativity by outlets like The New York Times and El País, focusing in quality and reader loyalty. In Peru, this transformation has affected all its traditional media and the way they present news. This investigation addressed the effect, the changes and the possibilities of Peru21, the first newspaper to embrace the Web in the country, and their change of strategy to engage with the public and generate revenues, especially due to the 2020 pandemic. / Trabajo de investigación
