Välbefinnande i en utmanande arbetsmiljö : Personliga assistenters upplevelse av sin arbetsmiljö

Bakgrund: Lagen om stöd och service till vissa funktionshindrade trädde i kraft 1 januari 1994. Den skulle garantera personer med omfattande och varaktiga funktionshinder bättre levnadsvillkor genom att de fick rätt till bland annat personlig assistans. Arbetet som personlig assistent i hemmet hos personer med olika typer av funktions-nedsättning kan se mycket olika ut. Det har uppmärksammats att det finns brister i personliga assistenters arbetsmiljö. Syftet: Att beskriva personliga assistenters upplevelse av sin arbetsmiljö hos brukare som tillhör personkrets tre enligt LSS. Metod: Sex semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes, med personer som arbetade som personlig assistent, i två olika kommuner. Intervjuerna analyserades genom en latent innehållsanalys. Resultat: I resultatet framkom sex kategorier som beskriver assistenternas upplevelser i arbetsmiljön; professionellt förhållningssätt, respekt för brukaren, emotionell påfrestning, fysisk påfrestning, trygghet i yrkesrollen och stolthet i yrkesrollen. Ett övergripande tema skapades under arbetets gång: Välbefinnande i en utmanande arbetsmiljö. Slutsats: De personliga assistenterna upplevde trots stora påfrestningar i arbetsmiljön, både när det gäller de fysiska och de psykosociala belastningarna, välbefinnande i arbetet. De kände också trygghet och stolthet över att de kunde hantera den utmanande arbetsmiljön de ställdes inför. Företagssköterskan har en viktig roll att vara uppmärksammad på de arbetsmiljöförhållanden som de personliga assistenterna arbetar under. De personliga assistenterna behöver känna stöd och handlingsutrymme för att balansera belastningar de utsätts för i yrket. / Background: The Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments came into force on 1 January 1994.People with major, lasting disabilities have been guaranteed better living conditions by means of personal assistance. Working as a personal assistant in the homes of people with different types of disabilities can vary considerably. Attention has been called to various inadequacies in the work environment of personal assistants. Purpose: To describe how personal assistants for the third category of people under LSS experience their work environment. Method: Six semi-structured interviews were conducted with personal assistants in two different municipalities. The interviews were subjected to a latent content analysis. Results: The results are described on the basis of six categories: professional attitude, respect for the patient, emotional stress, physical stress, sense of professional security, and professional pride. An overarching theme was created during the process: Well-being in a challenging work environment. Conclusion: The results showed that the personal assistants experienced a sense of wellbeing despite major physical and psychosocial stress factors in their work environment. They also experienced a sense of security and pride in their ability to deal with the challenging work environment that they encountered. Occupational health nurse has an important role to be notified of the working conditions that the personal assistants working under. The personal assistants need to feel supported and room for maneuver to balance the loads they are subjected to in the profession.

KoForum – Kooperative Forschungsumgebung für die organisationsübergreifende wissenschaftliche Laborarbeit

In den Ingenieurwissenschaften ist die Arbeit in Laboren ein zentraler Bestandteil aktiver Hochschullehre und -forschung. Jedoch besteht ein grundlegendes Problem in der Einbettung von Laborarbeit in computergestützte Arbeitsabläufe wie etwa dem E-Learning. Für eine nachhaltige Kompetenzentwicklung bei Studierenden können die Bereiche der aktiven Laborarbeit und der Lehre nicht weiterhin isoliert voneinander betrachtet werden. Der vorliegende Artikel beschreibt den Aufbau einer kooperativen Forschungsumgebung für die wissenschaftliche Laborarbeit, welche sich in die hochschulweiten und sogar organisationsübergreifenden IT-Infrastrukturen nahtlos einbetten lässt. Dabei wird deutlich, dass eine innovative kooperative Forschungsumgebung Synergien zwischen Forschung und Lehre maßgeblich fördern kann.

Comparative Media Analysis, Government and Private Media in Perspective : Exploring the working environment/condition of journalistic professional practice in Nigeria

This study considers the exploration of working condition/environment of journalistic professional practice in Nigeria from comparative perspective of private and government owned media. The study adopts a qualitative research approach. Three journalists were interviewed from among government owned media establishments and four from privately owned media. The theoretical lenses used to interrogate the research question include Authoritarian theory and its derivatives, Field Theory and the Social Theory of Journalism. These were used to gather qualitative data through a series of semi-structured interviews conducted on the respondents. The results show how operating environments and unsuitable work conditions media practitioners encounter influence or affect quality outcome of work in the profession from comparative angle. The study not only highlighted on contemporary situational developments in the media industry but also how the profession fared in government and privately owned media when placed side-by-side. Though results seem to be a sorry sight in the entire profession’s industry, however, slight variation observed in both sides of government and private media surely justifies the essence of the study, key finding also shows that although journalists encounter similar challenges in the course of their duties, their response to them varies substantially according to individual principles, terrain of work and the part of the industry (government or private) they work for. Results also shows some contrasting work condition/environment’s details in government and private media and the experiences their media practitioners face.

“Så länge det inte händer någonting kan man väl fortsätta att ta lite onödiga risker” : En kvalitativ studie om hur säkerhetskultur kan främjas inom organisationer

The construction industry has in the current situation twice as many accidents and work-related health issues than other industries. A good safety culture within organizations is what can cover the parts that cannot be caught up by routines and policies, in other words the human behavior. The overall purpose of this study was therefore to investigate how a good safety culture can be promoted within organizations. The research questions comprise safety, routines, goals and expectations experienced by the work group, and how openness around safety can be promoted within organizations. Through qualitative semi-structured interviews, the work group has been able to share their own subjective experiences. The data has been thematically analyzed. The results show that a good safety culture can be promoted by knowledge about the factors that affect the individual’s safety, communication and clarity from the management, to integrate conversations about safety into the day-to-day operations as well as a good understanding of why reporting and documentation are important. The challenges that the work-group faces are primarily to create understanding, involvement and participation, grading risks and integrating systematic work environment work into daily operations. / Bygg- och anläggningsbranschen har i dagsläget dubbelt så många olyckor och arbetsrelaterade sjukdomar jämfört med andra branscher. En god säkerhetskultur inom organisationer är vad som kan täcka de delar som inte kan fångas upp av rutiner och policys, det vill säga det mänskliga beteendet. Det övergripande syftet med denna studie var därför att undersöka hur en god säkerhetskultur kan främjas inom organisationer. Frågeställningarna innefattar arbetsgruppens upplevda säkerhetsarbete, rutiner, vilka mål och förväntningar som finns samt hur en öppenhet kring säkerhetsfrågor kan främjas. Genom kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer har arbetsgruppen fått berätta om deras egna subjektiva upplevelser. Datan har analyserats genom tematisk analys och jämförts med tidigare forskning inom organisations- och säkerhetskultur. Resultatet visar att en god säkerhetskultur kan främjas genom kunskap om de faktorer som påverkar individens säkerhet, kommunikation och tydlighet från ledning, utrymme för att integrera samtal om säkerhet i den dagliga verksamheten samt en god förståelse om varför rapportering och dokumentering är viktigt. De utmaningar arbetsgruppen står inför är framförallt att skapa förståelse, involvering och delaktighet, gradera risker samt att integrera det systematiska arbetsmiljöarbetet på ett naturligt sätt i den dagliga verksamheten.

This study was undertaken to analyze the relationship of socio-ecological process and organization of work that occur in the pick up process and marketing of shellfish seafood by the riverside communities of the estuary of River Paraíba. Among the qualitative methods include: life history, free interviews, semi-structured, guided tours and direct observation, the data were analyzed by interpreting the speech of the interviewees, based on the model of the integration of the various individual skills. The knowledge that these women have about the distribution of resources and its ecology, and environmental perception, constitutes a valuable tool in that it is enough to be incorporated in both plans of socio-economic studies and in management, conservation and sustainable use of local fauna. / Esta dissertação trata das imbricações contemporâneas no que infere o processamento e manuseio ecológico da coleta de mariscos pelas marisqueiras dos municípios de Bayeux, João Pessoa e Cabedelo no Estado da Paraíba que dependem do ambiente onde os moluscos bivalves se desenvolvem. Teve-se como objetivo analisar as relações sócio ecológicas do processo e organização do trabalho que ocorrem no processo de cata e comercialização dos moluscos pelas marisqueiras das comunidades ribeirinhas do estuário do Rio Paraíba. Dentre os métodos qualitativos, destacam-se: história de vida, entrevistas livres, semi-estruturadas, turnês guiadas e observação direta; os dados obtidos foram analisados por meio da interpretação do discurso das entrevistadas, com base no modelo de união das diversas competências individuais. O conhecimento que estas mulheres detêm sobre a distribuição dos recursos e sua ecologia, além de sua percepção ambiental, constitui-se em uma ferramenta valiosa que é suficiente para ser incorporada tanto em planos de desenvolvimento sócio-econômicos quanto em estudos de manejo, conservação e utilização sustentável da fauna local.

O cuidado com o meio ambiente do trabalho envolve também aspectos psíquicos e não somente físicos. Tanto o meio ambiente adequado, como o próprio Direito do Trabalho são considerados como direitos fundamentais, de aplicação imediata e, portanto, não podem sofrer retrocessos, conforme previsão no direito internacional e na Constituição Federal Brasileira, que tem como princípios basilares a dignidade humana e o valor social do trabalho. Implementering av arbetsmiljöarbete i ett mindre tillverkningsindustriföretag : En kvalitativ intervjustudie / Implementation of work environment management in a smaller manufacturing company

Studien undersöker ledningens och medarbetarnas uppfattning om utvecklingen av en ny HRM-funktion på ett svenskt medelstort företag, med följande frågeställning: Hur uppfattar ledningen och medarbetarna utvecklingen av HRM-funktionen i förhållande till deras behov och förväntningar? För att besvara studiens syfte och frågeställning har semistrukturerade intervjuer genomförts med ledning och medarbetare för att utforska implementeringen av arbetsmiljöarbete med HRM-funktionen inom det medelstora företaget. En kvalitativ innehållsanalys tillämpades för att analysera intervjudata och identifiera mönster kring HRM-funktionens påverkan på arbetsmiljön. Det framkom att HRM-funktionen har spelat en viktig roll i struktureringen och förbättringen av arbetsmiljön med en högre delaktighet hos medarbetare och social hållbarhet. Det har skapat en ökad trygghet och öppenhet på arbetsplatsen. Trots positiva förändringar mötte HRM-funktionen initiala utmaningar med kommunikationsbrister, vilket understryker behovet av en tydlig och tidig dialog för att maximera dess positiva effekter och minimera hinder. / The study examines management's and employees' perception of the development of a new HRM function at a Swedish medium-sized company, with the following question: How do management and employees perceive the development of the HRM function in relation to their needs and expectations? In order to answer the study's purpose and question, semi-structured interviews have been conducted with management and employees to explore the implementation of work environment work with the HRM function within the medium-sized company. A qualitative content analysis was applied to analyze the interview data and identify patterns around the HRM function's impact on the work environment. The study concluded that the HRM function has played an important role in the structuring and improvement of the work environment with a higher participation of employees and social sustainability. This has created increased safety and candidness in the workplace. Despite positive changes, the HRM function faced initial challenges with communication gaps, underscoring the need for a clear and early dialogue to maximize its positive effects and minimize barriers.

Företag idag är pressade och måste prioritera sina primära arbetsuppgifter, vilket ofta leder till att arbetsmiljöarbetet blir svårt att upprätthålla eller kan ses som en omotiverad kostnad. För att bespara tid och inte störa den dagliga verksamheten förekommer det att representanter väljs ut som får agera länk mellan slutanvändare och systemutvecklare vid framtagandet av nya system. Det leder till att viktiga kunskaper och behov inte kommer fram under utvecklingsfasen. Bristande utformning av datorsystem kan leda till att de inte nyttjas eller att arbetsmiljöarbetet blir lidande. Vid utformning av datorsystem är det viktigt att ta hänsyn till användbarhet. Ett datorsystem som är byggt med användaren i fokus verkar ha en större acceptans hos företag.   Syftet med undersökningen var att identifiera behov av datorstöd till systematiskt arbetsmiljöarbete (SAM) hos företag som sedan tidigare arbetar med AFS 2001:1. Metoden för denna uppsats bestod huvudsakligen av litteraturundersökningar och intervjuer med chefer samt medarbetare (alternativt skyddsombud). Insamlad data jämfördes mellan chef och medarbetare och skillnader mellan företagen analyserades.     Resultat visade att det inte fanns skillnader av den insamlade data mellan chef och medarbetare (alternativt skyddsombud) inom samma företag. Detta betyder att deltagarna från samma företag har samma bild över deras arbetsmiljöarbete. Mellan företagen råder det dock olikheter då kunskapsnivån spelar roll och vilken slags kunskapsöverföring som finns idag.   Det som var en gemensam bristande faktor för samtliga företag var det sista steget i det systematiska arbetsmiljöarbetet ”Undersöka-Bedömning-Åtgärda-Kontroll”. Samtliga företag var duktiga på att åtgärda arbetsmiljöbrister som var av den akuta karaktären. Akuta ärenden är något som upptäcks direkt exempelvis personskada på grund av snubbling. Medan långsiktiga brister ses som större processer med längre implementeringsperioder exempelvis kartläggning av fallande produktivitet på grund av arbetsmiljöbrister.   Slutsats av resultaten visade på att det finns behov av ett ledningssystem med IT-stöd som är användaranpassat. Det bör ge stöd istället för att belasta arbetsgivaren med mängder av dokumentation och administration. Inför designfasen av ett ledningssystem är syfte och mål viktiga delar att definiera tillsammans med utvecklaren för att kunna skapa ett användarvänligare system.   Något som genomsyrade resultaten av undersökningen var att samtliga deltagare inte genomförde någon form av uppföljning. Därför blir det viktigt att i framtida utvecklingsprojekt ta hänsyn till den delen av systematiskt arbetsmiljöarbete för att säkerställa att det inte glöms bort. Detta steg är en viktig del av systematiskt arbetsmiljöarbete och måluppfyllning samt utveckling. Bättre uppföljning ger bättre beslut. / Companies today are pressed and need to prioritize their primary work tasks which often means that work environment management is hard to maintain or can be seen as an unmotivated cost. To save money and avoid disturbing the daily operations representatives are sometimes chosen to be the link between the end-user and the system developer during the development of a new system. That means that important knowledge and needs aren’t included in the development phase. Poorly designed computer systems can lead to it not being used or the fact that the work environment management becomes suffering. During the development of a computer system it’s important to consider the usability. A system that is built focused on the end-user seems to have a higher level of acceptance at companies.   The purpose of this essay was to identify the needs of computer aid for the systematic work environment management at companies that have previously worked with AFS 2001:1 (Swedish law for systematic work environment management).  The method for this essay mainly consisted of literature studies and interviews with managers and co-workers (alternatively safety representative). Collected data from managers and co-workers were compared and the differences between the companies were analyzed.   Results show that there wasn’t any difference between the data collected from the managers and the co-workers in the same company. This means that participants from the same company had the same view on their work environment management. When the companies were compared to each other there were differences related to the level of knowledge and the ability to pass the knowledge along.   A common factor that was lacking for all companies was that the final step in the systematic work environment management which is control. All companies were good at addressing occupational safety deficiencies that were of the acute nature. Acute cases are something that is detected directly, for example, injuries due to tripping. While long-term deficiencies are seen as major processes with longer implementation periods, such as mapping of declining productivity due to workplace shortcomings.   Conclusion of the results showed that there is a need for a management system with IT support that is user-adapted. It should provide support rather than burden the employer with a load of documentation and administration. Before the design phase of a management system, the purpose and goal are key elements to define with the developer in order to create a user-friendly system.   Something that permeated the results of the survey was that all participants didn’t do any kind of follow-up. Therefore, in future development projects, it is important to take into account that part of the systematic work environment management to ensure that it is not forgotten. This step is an important part of systematic work environment management and goal fulfillment as well as development. Better follow up leads to better decisions.
