Enhance your workplace! : a dialogue tool for workplace health promotion with salutogenic approach

Nilsson, Petra January 2010 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to develop and make a quality assessment of a tool, which includes a questionnaire and a dialogue process that could be useful for workplace health promotion from a salutogenic point of view. The studies have been performed within two health care organizations between 2005 and 2009, together with hospital staff. Two questionnaire studies were conducted (n=446 n=505, respectively). A focus group interview study was performed (n=78), and meetings were held in an action research process for applying a questionnaire process at two wards (n=69). The result shows a development process for a multi-dimensional questionnaire, the Work Experience Measurement Scale (WEMS), which can be used to measure work experiences from a salutogenic perspective. WEMS was shown to be a functional workplace health promotion questionnaire with the ability to discriminate between groups. Its psychometric properties support its applicability in health care settings and offer a possibility to measure trends over time regarding employees´ work experiences. A dialogue structure for progress in the questionnaire process is presented. It describes what to precede and how to proceed through a workplace questionnaire process to foster applicability, meaningfulness, and sustainability. Through WEMS, the outcome of work-related Specific Enhancing Resources (SER) may be highlighted and strengthened in workplace activities. When used as a dialogue tool in a continuous questionnaire process, WEMS has the potential of being a useful assessment tool in workplace health promotion. Such a dialogue tool is useful in discussions and tangible for the work of enhancing positive human capabilities and resources (SER) that improve work performance.

Predicering av upplevelse av arbete och arbetssituation : känsla av sammanhang, upplevd stress, ålder och kön / Predicted experience of work and situations therein : Sense of Coherence, perceived stress, age, and gender

Kvam, Jenny January 2019 (has links)
Negative stress affects our physical and psychological health. How we perceive our general stress affects our experience of work and situations therein. The things that are perceived as stressful vary among individuals and how we deal with our perceived stress also varies. The purpose of this study was to clarify to what extent our general perceived stress-level inter-acted with the sense of coherence in our experience of work and situations at work. Another purpose was to examine how the interaction were affected by age. Lastly, the purpose was to see if there is any differences between genders. Men and women (N=171) working 100 % in the last month participated in my study. To collect the data, I used Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC) and Work Experience Measurement Scale (WEMS) in conjunction with question each participant´s background. The multiple regression analysis showed that PSS was the strongest predictor variable on experience of work and situations at work (B = -1.22, p< .001). SOC had a smaller relationship (B = 0.35, p< .01). Gender (B = -1.70, p = .717) and age (B = -0.22, p = .430) was not found to be significant. With the predictor variable SOC, the explained variance was 24.2% and when PSS was added to the model, the explained variance increased significantly to 28.4%.

"Vadå förberedd?" : En kvalitativ studie om socionomutbildningens betydelse inför arbetslivet inom socialtjänstens kärnområden / "What do you mean prepared?" : A qualitative study about the meaning of social work education to meet the challenges of working life within the core areas in social work

Lickhammer, Ida, Gustavsson, Jessika January 2018 (has links)
This essay is a qualitative study that explores the importance of social workers with different levels of work experience and their attributes to social work education, who meet the challenges of working life. The study made a comparison between social workers who have one to two years of work experience and five to ten years of work experience at the Social Service Centre in Kalmar. Semi-structured interviews have been used. The essay contains information about the regime New Public Management (NPM) that gives knowledge of how the public sector looks today, which gives a greater understanding of what the interviewees are faced with regarding their challenges in working life. Referring to previous research, it was found that a common occurrence within social education students is a feeling of being unprepared and feeling uncertain about future careers. The results gained from the study showed that the social workers with five to ten years of work experience use knowledge from education more in their everyday work, compared to the social workers with one to two years of work experience. Also the social workers with more work experience had gained an overall view of what social work is about, owing to the education. In the result, it was also found that all interviewees regardless of work experience felt that social work education should include more practice to prepare them for working life.

Pensionärspooler : Pensionär med fortsatt anställning efter ett yrkesverksamt liv / Manning pools for retired people : Pensioners with a resumed employment after a life of work

Stenström, Maria, Wall, Patricia January 2010 (has links)
<p>A qualitative survey has been carried out in a manning company whose business concept was to employ pensioners. Six pensioners have been interviewed regarding their views on resumed employment. The results of these interviews have been analysed supported by analytic induc-tion. Areas investigated cover: promotion of better health through work, motivation factors, groupings and control, experience and learning, work and spare time and finally strategies that appeal to an older workforce. The purpose of the survey was to investigate whether the manning company utilizes pension-ers’ experience and work skills from their former working life. We also wanted to examine if and whether continued employment contributed to an increased quality of life. The result showed that few employees were employed in positions that had any connection with their former working lives. The majority of tasks given were similar to ordinary house-work. To be needed, to perform purposeful work, to have social contacts and be appreciated were important. Few pensioners commented that the reason for their continued employment was financial. Time for recreation and own activities were expressed as important in the pen-sioners’ way of life. None of the pensioners wished to own their own business, they were sat-isfied with being employed despite a lower remuneration.</p> / <p>En kvalitativ undersökning har gjorts på ett bemanningsföretag som riktat in sig på att anställa pensionärer.

The use of history books in education : A study of secondary school teachers’ use of history textbooks.

Gorgis, George January 2009 (has links)
<p>The aim of this thesis is to examine how secondary teachers in the subject of history are using the textbook in their teaching. Four questions are being dealt with in this thesis. What importance is being placed on the use of history textbooks by the secondary teachers? What priorities do the secondary teachers have? How do they deal with student interests? And what is the importance of the secondary teachers’ work experience? </p><p>I have interviewed four secondary teachers with different work experience to complete this thesis. A Dictaphone has been used in all the interviews. </p><p>Research has shown that textbooks now have a central role in teaching and the lack of alternative materials and reduction of teaching hours has made it difficult to replace. </p><p>The main conclusions of the thesis are that the history textbook has a dual role depending on the teacher you ask, and that the history book is used differently by the teachers. The priorities vary depending on the students that are currently enrolled and their interests are. Teachers with less work experience have a rather negative attitude to the textbook and believe that it can be rigid, while teachers with more experience see it as a tool for engaging the weaker students. However, the history textbook is required, and even the teachers who are not using the history textbook can all confirm that: because even a teacher who is not using it has the history textbook for the students to have something to refer to if needed.</p>

: En undersökning om hur erfarenheter värderas / Music teachers’ pre-educational experiences – what significance might they have? : A survey about how experience is valued

Arnér, Carl-Michael January 2009 (has links)
Is there something to gain when leaving the academic world a few years between secondary high school and a higher education? And is there a value in the experiences a student might have gained from life outside the academic world? Do teachers and students within colleges of music and headmasters for local music schools, see that these experiences have any practical value? In this essay I have interviewed students, teachers and headmasters from both colleges of music and local music schools to hear their views regarding the value of earlier experiences. My result is that it is a very complex area and it is difficult to give a conclusive answer within the limits of this study, which spanned over six months. This notwithstanding, all of the persons interviewed in this study agreed that it is important to discuss these questions, and that there is a value in earlier experiences.</p>
